61 | Psalm 22:3 (NLT) | Ps 22:3 | keliy | 221006
Verse three is understood as metaphorical. It is possibly meant to paint a mental picture of the Lord, sitting enthroned as King in his temple, receiving all the praises being offered up to Him by His people, Israel. That He is holy, means that He is not unjust, untrue, or unkind. Holy is a derivative of the word 'Whole' (Whole-ly) which is meaning, complete, or perfect. |

62 | Do we understand suffering in delighting | Ps 37:4 | keliy | 215839
Momma, wonderful to hear from you after such a time. -Truly, I have longed for your heart on this forum and you have been in my prayers. Thanks be to our precious Lord. Per your query, I know that you are well informed about context, and how to read the words before the verse you stated. In an effort to delight in the Lord, -May I ask you to re-direct your thoughts to what leads to Jesus' suffering? (see the preceding verse) "And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed" (I wish I could know as well as our Lord does that He is never farther from us than the cast of a stone!) Forgive me, please. I am not presumptuous but I thought if you would look in a new light, -perhaps in a new frame. Since you maintain your desire for diverse insights, I am humbly offering mine here: What I would like to bring to mind is Deu 25:4; "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out....." Now, let me ask you, If God gave dominion -truly, over these beasts of burden, then why does He give such a direction? It was not for the benefit of the ox, but for the example of the kindness of our Lord, as He consistently concerns Himself with the lowliest of creatures, alas, Jesus is the lamb of God!. May I offer here that God desires His people to show a better course than the pagans, in the land that they were sharing. The pagans would have been entrenched into a selfish attitude as they muzzled the ox that was doing the labor required for their daily bread. (they simply did not want to share) yet, Our God wants His people to be different than those in this fallen world in which we live; and ever conspicuously so. We are taught to habitually perform kindness above and beyond what is expected of us, beyond what is ever expected or remotely required, and always be ready to give an answer why our actions are in (supposed) opposition to the present world views. (This is the reason why the Beatitudes are one of my favorite studies.) In addition, ((as well as a happy belated "momma's" day to you, (with love in Christ)) I am curious as to your well-being, if I may so inquire. I am heartfully feeling that your question is somehow due to some type of undeserved suffering on your behalf. -Am I correct, or just out of line? Thank you dear momma, Please keep us informed because we care so deeply for you. I hope all is well and will continue to remember you in my prayers. keliy |

63 | What is worship supposed to be like? | Ps 43:4 | keliy | 215239
Hello, LookRightTroughMe, I would suggest learning all you can about the Book of Psalms. It is the longest Book of the Bible, and its primary purpose is to teach us to worship God. Psalms have been credited with reflecting every human emotion. For instance, if you are happy and want some words to express your happiness, try Psalm 92 or Psalm 66. If you feel forsaken, try Psalm 88. If you are grateful and you would like to express it, read Psalm 40. This book, therefore, teaches us how to be honest before God. If you have a problem, tell God about it. If you are angry with God, just let Him know. If you are upset about something, tell Him that too. If you are resentful, bring it out. If you are glad, you should express that to Him also. That is what worship is, just the honesty within each believer's heart. As Jesus said to the woman at the well in Samaria, "The true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth." (John 4:23) That is the kind of worshiper that God is looking for. And as you worship Him in Spirit and truth, you will discover a new source of strength. If you are able to be completely honest before God, even when you are troubled by those pesky problems of bad moods and wrong attitudes, you will find His grace is not only abundant, but it is also silently answering all of your needs. May you discover joyful blessings as you worship Him through your studies. keliy |

64 | What is the origin of YHWH (Yahweh) | Ps 68:4 | keliy | 210551
Hi Malexis, The four Hebrew letters (Yod, He, Waw and He) are often called the "Tetragrammaton". They are the four Hebrew letters that correspond to YHWH and are transliterated IAUE or Yahweh. Yahweh is a name used for our Almighty Father in Heaven that we often call "Our LORD" or "God". The reason we see "LORD" and "God" in our Bibles is because of a Jewish tradition in which the name Yahweh was not to be spoken for fear that the name be blasphemed, mostly because we, as humans are not worthy enough even to utter His name with our unclean lips. The Preface of some bibles will admit why they change His name. Nearly all will cite tradition and familiarity as the reason. This point is clearly debatable. Sometimes people say the correct pronunciation of the tetragrammaton is "Jehovah". But Jehovah could never be the right pronunciation. The name of Yahweh is used in reference to the Heavenly Father because in the scriptures we are told to praise, exalt, bless, love, teach, preach, anoint, assemble, believe, give thanks, honor and call on His name. The Tetragrammaton has been found in the 2000 year old Dead Sea Scrolls and in ancient copies of the Septuagint! May you be blessed in His name, Keliy |

66 | Psalm 137:9 | Ps 137:9 | keliy | 221132
Hi Dottie, Thank you for a great question; Only one more? Please don't feel that you are putting us out of our way, for there is nothing we would rather do than serve God by promoting His Kingdom. In the verse you mention, the Jews in Babylon are tormenting themselves with thoughts of Babylon's ruin, but this not from a spirit of revenge, but out of zealousness for the glory of God and the honour of his kingdom. The Lord said to Zechariah through His angel, "And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction." (Zec 1:15) This is saying that the Edomites, who spurred on the anger of the Chaldean army, will be reckoned with. -If not in this life, then in the life to come. Babylon is the key player here, and it will be her turn also to drink of the cup of tremblings. As the Scriptures teach, the destroyers will be destroyed (Rev 13:10) This is simply put, justice being served. "Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double." (Rev 18:6) As Matt 7:2 puts it, "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." This is a fruit of the old hostility of Esau against Jacob, because he stole the blessing, and further back, the ancient animosity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. This will be a destruction that will honour the participants of it. "Happy shall be those that do it; for they are fulfilling God’s counsels; and therefore he calls Cyrus, who did it, his servant, his shepherd, his anointed (Isa. 44:28; 45:1) And the soldiers will be called his sanctified ones, (Isa. 13:3). They are the ones promoting God’s people, Israel. The fall of the New-Testament Babylon will be the triumph of all the saints, Rev. 19:1. In His service and yours, keliy |

67 | What is this from? | Ps 139:13 | keliy | 213046
Hello bethany151, Welcome to the Forum. I am not used to seeing a question remain unanswered for one and a half days, so I thought I would just take a stab at it. Not knowing what level you are at presently, I put down the first verses that came to my mind. If there is something else, maybe others might join in. Or, if I am on the wrong track, please repost your question. Blessings to you, keliy Psa 139:13-16 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous-and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 1Cr 12:14-18 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. |

68 | Pr. 6:23 the commandment is a lamp??? | Prov 6:23 | keliy | 212897
Hi Halo, I am glad for your question, I have been out of town so there was a slight delay in answering. In Proverbs 6, the commandment is a lamp. The author of the Proverb is using 'lamp' as a simile, or a metaphor for 'commandment'. In John 8:12. Jesus uses light as a metaphor for Himself: "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." So, you see metaphors are used as symbols of speech that point to something which is realistic. I am glad that you brought up Psa 119. One exercise for you to try, is to go back and re-read Psa 119 in its entirety, and count how many verses do NOT mention God's commands. -Laws, precepts included, they are essentially the same thing. Now, back to verse 105. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Think of it like this: His Word is a lamp for the feet. This is like a lamp in the window, meant to show the way for someone traveling at night, in order to find their way. This means the direction to point their feet in so they do not wander off and become lost. God's Word keeps your direction true, by way of guidance. His Word is a light for the path. This is like one that is walking through the woods at night, and a beam of light, (say from the moon) shines through and lights up the ground and exposes a trip hazard, such as a root sticking up, or a fallen branch. Now, God's Word is protecting you, and keeping you from stumbling as you pursue your way. This way your progress is not slowed, and you do not sustain injury. The mother and father are important, but not the main players in God's scenario of salvation, because God does not have any grandchildren. Blessings to you as you explore His Word. keliy |

69 | Proverbs 8:13 | Prov 8:13 | keliy | 213048
Hello haalo, The King James has it froward, rather than perverse. The AKJV uses the word 'fraudulent, and Darby uses froward. Anyway, the Hebrew word in the Bible is Strong's H2015 "tahpukah" which is a feminine noun that is said to mean, perverseness, or foolishness. Strong's Hebrew Dictionary defines it: a perversity or fraud:--(very) froward(-ness, thing), perverse thing. Blessings to you, keliy |

71 | Trouble with Pronouns | Is 63:11 | keliy | 212935
Hi Cheri, Good Question! I also have been using the NKJ also, at my home church. It is the pastor's translation of choice, for good readability combined with a fair accuracy. I like to find out the reasons behind things such as what that you have pointed out here as well, or else it bothers me 'til I find an answer. I agree with you, I would rather find out the reason, than chalk it up to a mistake in the translation. (-: The context does not give much insight, as I am sure you looked into that already. I find that verses 7 thru 14 are a prayer of praise, seeking deliverance. I have a little bit of study in NT Greek, but none in Hebrew, so I could not read the original language to look for an answer. I first thought to look at the gender of the word for a clue, to see if Hebrew was the same concerning genders, then I thought I'd go to the Septuagint to read the verse in the Greek translation. Then I took the easy way out. Rather than trying to find an answer in a literal translation, or 'formal equivalent' as is the NKJV and the NASB, I thought I would look in a freer translation, such as a dynamic equivalent, or a paraphrase, and let them do the translation work for me. (or for us, as it was your question that I was looking to answer ;o) What I found, for verse 11 in the NIV, was: " Then his people recalled the days of old..." -Which is a little different from the KJV, which has it: "Then he remembered the days of old" or the NKJV : "Then he remembered the days of old..." Also, in the NLT (a little more Free) which reads: "Then they remembered those days of old..." So we can see that as we move away from formal translations to more dynamic translations, the pronoun that you mentioned changes form from third person singular to third person plural, in the English rendering. Or, from "he" (KJV) and "he" (NKJV), to "his people" (NIV), and "they" (NLT). I would then say that it is correct to use the lower case 'h' in verse 11, and it was not a mistake on the part of the publishers or translators of the NKJV, woild you agree? in Him, keliy |

72 | what is GOD promise to me | Jer 31:31 | keliy | 210385
bro. donny, In the Bible, a promise from God is called a Covenant. Since, we can rely on God's word for eternity, we can take great comfort in His covenant promising us eternal life in His Son. There are many Covenants that God has made. This is one of my personal favorites: "The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah...This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people" (Jer. 31:31,33). Actually, there are 6 Covenants in the Bible. The Adamic Covenant The Abrahamic Covenant The Palestinian Covenant The Mosaic Covenant The Davidic Covenant And, the New Covenant which I mentioned above. blessings to you, bro. keliy |

73 | Where God says truth will be revealed | Jer 33:6 | keliy | 212950
Hi, LovemyLord7 Actually the words "truth will be revealed" do not occur in that order in the King James Bible, But there are many interesting passages saying that God will reveal His truth. One example is the verse above, in the NASB and the AMP Jesus was God's revealed Word, and God's Word is Truth, so I included some other examples here. If you would like anything a little more specific, please let us know. Zec 8:3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jhn 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Lord Bless, keliy |

Hi Bream, I apologize, but your question is confusing me. Could you have possibly meant Daniel 7? (-see verses 9, 13, and 22 ) In the case of Dan 7:9 Daniel saw thrones of judgment set up,and one was occupied by the Ancient of Days. I believe that this is our Father, the sovereign God. 75 | Can a woman divorce man: Ongoing porn? | Matthew | keliy | 212569
Hello Bandaid, I am no pro, but have been in places that has given me a modicum of experience on this subject. I have been to counseling, and others have come to me for counseling. Now, to look to the Bible as the inspired Word of God for wisdom, turn to the very first negative thing spoken of in the created world. After God reflected upon all He made, and saw that all was good, He said that it was not good for man to be alone And the LORD God said, [It is] not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. (Gen 2:18) Are you looking for a biblical justification to initiate divorce proceedings? I am afraid that what you are looking for is a band-aid solution to a much deeper problem. You may even be looking for an answer in the Bible to suit your worldly desires but I suspect you may not be successful. You use Scripture verses to illustrate your point, but Mar 10:10-12 deals with adultery, giving no permission for a man to initiate a decree of divorce. 10.)In the house the disciples [began] questioning Him about this again. 11.) And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; 12.)and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery." Mat 5:27-28 deals with adultery, giving no permission for a man to initiate a decree of divorce. 27.)"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY'; 28.) but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. This is key, The 'he' spoken of is committing adultery 'in his heart' Now, that is where the problem lies, it is an issue of the heart. In marriage, the twain are to become one. If this does not happen, it must be worked out with prayer through biblical counseling, and not by placing judgement on the other party. Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye? (Mat 7:4) While it is quite true that adultery is a horrible sin, yet, in my eyes, Jesus has spoken more harshly about the sin of judging others. Take into account the words of Jesus to the woman at the well. Did He condemn her? No, He sent her home to proclaim His message. Also, the woman caught in the act of adultery. Did He condemn her? No, He said for the one who is without sin to cast the first stone. Please do not misunderstand me. I am not condoning adultery, or even trying to minimize this awful sin or the ugly consequences thereof. However the sin of Pride, of where non-righteous judgements originate, is a whole new thread -yet I maintain that it is most offensive to God. So, when you look at the sin of judging others (and their sins), it is so much more grievious according to amounts of Scripture that condemns those who feel righteous enough to do so. The main thing to remember is, it is all about Jesus. Not our own comfort. If you were to remember this, you will find your trials easier to bear with the strength that He supplies you. keliy |

76 | Can a woman divorce man: Ongoing porn? | Matthew | keliy | 212660
Bandaid, Thank you for your kind reply, I have gained much understanding into your situation. I have been looking into this all day and I think I have what may be of interest to you. There are many who may argue that the viewing of pornography would not be grounds for divorce. However if this practice includes masturbation and this spouse becomes so addicted to pornography that it becomes a barrier to the one flesh union, then the vows spoken in the marriage covenant are broken, and biblically, it defiles the marriage bed. Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (Heb 13:4) The actions of your husband may very well break the marriage covenant and thus the marriage bond would be considered effectively severed. (Here's the disclaimer:) Yet, this is not considered an unforgivable sin and there are other verses that would likely apply to temper one's judgement with love and forgiveness. In 1 Corinthians 7:3, Paul says, "Let the husband render unto his wife due benevolence" (KJV). So, in the marriage relationship, conjugal relations are considered a duty, and could amount to a debt that is unfulfilled. This may require the offending party to make reparations to an injured spouse. The KJV translators considered it as 'benevolence'. Benevolence implies affection -including during the act of physical love. I believe that what Paul is saying in 1Cor 7 is that every spouse is due normal affection in the form of normal conjugal relations. Yet, it may become impossible for you, the wife (due to the knowledge of sinful activity) to receive what is owed, which is described in the KJV as benevolence. Impossible, because the sexual relationship likely ends up being a disgusting act. I am aware that marriages should not be based upon the success of the sex life, there is more to life than that. (next disclaimer:) Therefore, this is not intended as a justification for any wife to file for divorce because her husband is not perfectly fulfilling her benevolence that is due. However, it does establish that when there is habitual addiction to pornography, then the wife can claim that their marriage bed has been defiled. Since you began asking for scriptural references, I have one more for you that you may find interesting: Exod 21:10-11 God Bless, and bless God. keliy |

77 | Blessed are the poor in spirit! | Matt 5:3 | keliy | 214597
Hi humility, To be poor in spirit means that one would be unlikely to brag about himself, or to make a vain display of one's own worth, or accomplishments. We are to acknowledge in our hearts that all we can acccomplish, we only accomplish through our Lord and there is nothing we can do without Him. He is the giver of life, He is our source of energy, the fountain of knowledge, and of wisdom. No skills or talents we possess come entirely from within ourselves, but from above. So from the word 'go', there is nothing that we are able to do that can be claimed for ourselves. Those who are poor in spirit are conscious of their dependance on God, and realize that they are unable to please God using their own abilities. On the other hand, we have a wealth of resources in Jesus Christ and we can do all things through Him as He gives us our strength. (Phi 4:13) God Bless, keliy |

78 | "Be ye perfect." | Matt 5:48 | keliy | 214599
Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees and demonstrating God's standard of righteousness. The Pharisees taught that they should love those near and dear to them, but that Israel's enemies were to be hated. This implied that that their hatred was a means of God's judgment. God was not going to lower His standard to accommodate this audience, so He set forth His absolute holiness as the standard. Though the human race will never be able to attain this standard, when we place our faith and trust in God, then His righteousness can be reproduced in our lives. Lord bless, keliy |
