61 | history of Mary Magdalene? | Luke | greentwiga | 141146
There is very little. Luke 8:2 Mary had 7 demons cats aou and was one of 3 specifically mentioned that supported the disciples. in Luke 24:10 Mary M, Joanna and Mary mother of James prepare spices, meet the Angels and report to the 11. In Matt 27:60-28:11 the two Marys watched the body get laid in the tomb, and met Jesus after meeting the angels. Mark 15:40-16:11 repeats this but adds that a bunch of women watched the crucifixion including the two Marys. John 19:25 and 20:1-18 repeats the story in a little different order and has the touching scene of her cryingand clinging? to him and being told not to but to go to the disciples. There is no other mentions of Mary M. The belief that Jesus married parallels too closely the Tammuz typ of stories. This is the God that marries a woman dies and is born to her. Frequently the "church" allowed other beliefs to be rewritten to sound Christian and thus make Christianity acceptable to the pagans. The end of the book, the DaVinci Code admits to this pagan source when it has the couple perform a ancient pagan fertility rite. Stick to what the Bible says, which is very little. She was a disciple, no more, no less. Greentwiga |

62 | Another question on Genesis 28 | Genesis | greentwiga | 141133
There is a difference between what a man thinks is happening and what is really happening (eg Jacob and the spotted sheep.) Isaac thought he had a choice in who to bless. Jacob blessed Joseph by declaring God's blessing on the boys. Gen 48:16. Jacob then calls the sons and tells tham what will happen (Gen 49.) Balaam is hired to curse Israel. Balak declare Balaam blessed them instead. Balaam says "I must speak what the Lord puts in my mouth." (Num 23) Could Isaac really have reversed the blessing? Could Balaam? Greentwiga |

63 | Does satan call us by numbers? | Revelation | greentwiga | 141131
I can't remember any such verse. Rev 13:18 talks about man's number. It is 666. The Hebrew word for 7 can also be translated oath. Oath keeping seems equated with Godliness.666 seems related, ie not fulfilling the oath. It does not seem to indicate that Satan translates men's names into numbers, but men do.
64 | am I saved | John | greentwiga | 141118
There are several ways of answering your Question. Some like John 6:37 Whoever comes to Me, I will never drive away. Others John 10:28-9 No one can snatch them out of My/God's hand. Heb 10:14 is a favorite. by one sacrifice, He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. Notice after Jesus makes us perfect, He then proceeds to make us holy. All christians, after being saved, will still sin. John gives the signs of being saved in 1 John (1 John 5:13) He gives about 25 signs, including the need to confess sins. Finally, use logic. If we lost our salvation each time we sinned, how could we have peace? God gives perfect peace. Keep confessing sins and watch Him work in your life.

66 | what was the mark of cain? | Gen 4:15 | greentwiga | 141091
We don't really know what the mark of Cain was from the Bible. We do know its effect. it was a mark that prevented people from killing him. This could be in two forms. Some people were marked with a slave mark. People could not hold the slave responsible for some things, but the master. The mark might have been a sign of ownership. In the Bible, a mark of ownership was to have ones ear pierced. A sign of belonging to God was circumcision. Back then, If a man committed murder, any family member of the murdered man could kill the murderer. This was the avenger of blood mentioned in the Old Testament. Another type of mark was a blemish. A blemished sheep was an unacceptable sacrifice. Back then, people would sacrifice other people to ensure fertility of the soil. The burning of children to Baal and the sacrifice of the daughter in Judges are later examples of this when the practice was disappearing. Cain's mark might have been a blemish to make him an unacceptable sacrifice in the unbeliever's (in the true God) eyes. Therefore, the mark could be either, depending on what you think might be the reason others would want to kill Cain. The mark might even have served both purposes. Greentwiga |

67 | In Gen. 6 what species are Sons of God? | Genesis | greentwiga | 141062
There are a variety of interpretations including this one. I favor an interpretation that fits Sumerian society of the region and time. Kings and others went to visit the heirodules, the religious wives, the temple prostitutes. The women prayed to be inhabited by the Goddess, and the man by the God. This was for fertility and success of the farm or nation. Here semitic men went to sumerian women, and both would be considered demon possessed by our understanding. Nephilim could be the heroes of old, or just a time marker for the heroes born to the union. Sargon (Nimrod?) claimed such a heritage (mother a temple prostitute)and was a Hero (?). Angels having sex seems to violate what Jesus taught about angels and thus demons, but this interpretation does not. Greentwiga |

68 | accordign to the bible there were 360 | Revelation | greentwiga | 141035
Though you can see from Rev 11 that 42 months of 30 days equals 1260 days, the Hebrews knew there was a lunar calender and a solar one. Whether they used a mixture of 29 day and 30 day months or just purely 30 day months, they had leap months just like we have leap years. They would add in a thirteenth month to make the lunar calender stay close to the solar one. Their solar calender was based on the points the sun made its most northerly and southerly movements, so their years are the same as ours. Now the Jews count back to some point to set a year number different from the Christians. In the time of the Monarchy, the did not use any such concept. The years were reset with each new king. Therefore, the Bible doesn't say what year we are in. Greentwiga |

69 | Numbering System Used in the Bible | Genesis | greentwiga | 141033
The Arabic numeral system with the zero was developed after the New Testament. The Romans used the roman numerals I,V, X etc. during the time of the New Testament. Egyptians at the time of Moses used a similar but more primitive system with one symbol for the ones, another for the tens, etc. Still it was base ten. You must go back to the Sumerians to get a base 60 system. Even here it was a mixed 6 and ten system. They gave us the 360 degrees of the compass and the 60 minutes and seconds plus the 12 hours for the day and night. We have written records of theirs on squares and cubes and roots. 666 comes from a system of converting a name to numbers. I think nero might convert to 666. 7 was special because the Hebrew word meant both seven and oath. Evil is used of Oath breakers and oathkeepers were Godly. I do not know about the source of 40 yet. I have studied alot of Biblical math. I even studied the movement of the Pole star to see when 1/3 of the permanent stars started falling to earth. (The most useless Bible Study ever.) Greentwiga |

70 | god telling moses and joshua to destroy | Num 33:52 | greentwiga | 141021
There are two types of commands. Numbers 33:52 gives the command to drive out all the inhabitants. Similar verses might emphasize to drive them out and totally destroy the nation. That means the government. In Deut 21:16-18, it focuses on destroying totally the cities. It lists specifically 6 of the 7 inhabitant groups of Canaan. There are a few specific "kill all" commands, such as the Midianites. The Deut passage is the broadest such command. Most quotes elsewhere focus on the driving them out command (1 Chron, Psalms) Greentwiga |

71 | Who is Abraham's wife? | Genesis | greentwiga | 140983
Abraham had three wives. Two of them might also be called concubines. They were Hagar, Sarah and Keturah. God made a promise to Hagar and Ishmael. (Gen 17:20) The promise of outnumbering the Stars in Heaven was meant only for Isaac and his descendants. (Gen 15:4) In Gen 25, the sons of Keturah are mentioned. They established tribes like Midianites and Sheba. Notice that Abe left all to his son Isaac but gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them to the East. Both Ishmael and the sons of Keturah moved east. 25:1-6 Therefore, only Isaac is the true son, the inheritor of the promise. Notice that the promise was repeated to one of Isaacs children, Jacob. (Gen 26:4, 28:13-20, Deut 7:13) Paul expanded it to all children of faith. (Rom 4:13-17) This seems to be the spiritual application, similar to the Jewish promise. Greentwiga |

72 | That they are enemies of the cross | Philippians | greentwiga | 140937
There are two possibilities, the unsaved and "Christians" living against God's word. Phil 1:17,2:3, 3:2 all focus on so called Christians who cause God to be rejected by nonChristians. We should weep for those people. Greentwiga |

73 | How many animals will fulfill Zech 9:9? | Zech 9:9 | greentwiga | 140903
Each Gospel adds details that another tought unimportant for that purpose. There were two animals, the mother donkey and the male (colt not filly). The colt, being unridden was the important one, so all mention it. Only for Matthew, wtiting for Jews was the exact fulfillment necessary. It might have been for practical reasons also. The colt might have been young enough that it would only go if its mother was leading. Therefore, Zech seems to refer to two animals.
74 | what does the bible say about divorce | Mal 2:16 | greentwiga | 140900
The rituals performed at a wedding vary according to the customs. Gen 29:22 shows an elaborate wedding. Gen 24:67 shows a marriage with no ceremony. Matt 22 and Matt 25 show different aspects of the 1st century marriage ceremony. God seems to allow all sorts of ceremonies. As for divorce, Pastor Glenn answered well. I might add 1 Cor 7. Three things free a person from a marriage, the death of the spouse, adultery, and an unbelieving spouse leaving. God does also allow for dangerous circumstances. 1 Cor 7:10 allows a person to leave when the other is violent, etc. In this case one must remain single or be reconciled. I went through this and it was a battle to accept staying single, but God is greater. Greentwiga |

75 | Why God allows such tragedy | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 140897
Good question. Complex answer. Though God is in ultimate control, he gave man control of the Earth. We chose to obey Satan. Satan has become lord of this world. He rules by fear, greed, terror, pain. What part of this is due to him? Much. God weeps at this corruption of his creation. If God were to reveal himself to the world, all the unsaved would perish. He has a plan. He is patient so more will be saved. In the meantime, the war wages and many are lost. In revelations, 1/3 of the world will die, a much worse tragedy. The question is not how can God allow this, but how long can the world continue to reject the loving God and seek the pleasures and greed of sin and Satan's way. This points to the need to send out many more missionaries. Greentwiga |

76 | Does the Bible refer to the earth being | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 140894
yes. look at Heb 12:26. It quotes Hag 2:6-7. Other related verses are Job 9:5-10, Ezek 38:19, Isa 2:21, Isa 13:13 (very good one), Isa 24:18-20, 2 Sam 22:8, Job 26:11-12, ps 75:3 and Hab 3:6-10. Several verses include a tsunami like effect. A good study Bible might find a few more verses.
77 | Who is God Talking to in verse 26? | Genesis | greentwiga | 140877
There is an ancient theological idea about the power of the word of God. It is rather foreign to us today. The concept was that when God spoke, his word made it happen. One concept was that the writer was saying that God spoke and it happened. Many people now discuss the "Let us" statement as referring to the trinity. Some would say they in some manner discussed the creation. Reality is far more complex than we can understand, but all these ideas can be true. See Heb 4:12, John 1, Isa 55:11
78 | The Book of Lamentations | Lamentations | greentwiga | 140875
Lamantations is a book written by Jeremiah. He has been watching the nation disobey God, fall apart and finally get hauled off into slavery. He is lamenting the destruction. There are 5 laments. They are written in formal Hebrew poetic style. It is hard to read a book of such sadness. If you wanted a comment on the Broderick book, make that clear. Greentwiga |

79 | Romans 2:14-15 commonly mutilated? | 1 Cor 2:14 | greentwiga | 140717
Dear Reighnskye I prefer to keep Rom 2 in context. The closest context is Rom 3. Rom 2 then seems like a straw dog of Paul's. Paul theorizes that All who obey the law will be saved. Rom 2:10,13,16. In that passage, he talks of the theoretical Gentile that obeys the law written on his heart. Then in Rom 3:9 he begins. All are under sin. There is not one righteous. 20 no one will be declared righteous by observing the law. 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. I believe that Paul is showing God to be righteous by showing that everyone equally had the chance to be saved by obeying the law revealed to them and all equally failed. Therefore, we all need the grace offered because Jesus died on the cross, and we need to send missionaries to the whole world. Yes, those who take Rom 2 out of context preach a salvation by works. 80 | Marriage- Two are better | Eccl 4:9 | greentwiga | 140618
There are components of friendship, reletives and marriage in the whole passage. Though it can be used for marriage, the passage focuses on the strength of family and friendship rather than selfish grubbing after wealth. Ecclestiastes is a complex argument against all the standard sources of meaning in life. It leads one to God, He is the only source of meaning. In chapter 4 he is destroying the seeking after wealth type of meaning. Greentwiga
