61 | What does this verse mean? | Phil 4:7 | Shelly | 114295
NIV Study Bible notes says on Phil 4:7. God's peace is different from the world's peace (see John 14:27). True peace is not found in positive thinking, in absence of conflict, or in good feelings. It comes from knowing that God is in control. Our citizenship in Christ's kingdom is sure, our destiny is set, and we can have victory over sin. Let God's peace guard your heart against anxiety. |

68 | I found errors in the Bible - help ! | 1 Kin 16:11 | Shelly | 103902
1 Kings 16:11 doesn't say that Baasha was killed - it says that he killed off Baasha's whole family (and Baasha was still alive?): "As soon as he began to reign and was seated on the throne, he killed off Baasha's whole family. He did not spare a single male, whether relative or friend." |

69 | Please help with Nimrud question | Bible general Archive 2 | Shelly | 102344
These are the only verses I can find with Nimrod (not Nimrud). Genesis 10:8-9 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. [9] He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." 1 Chron. 1:10 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on earth. Micah 5:6 They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land and marches into our borders. |

70 | "...sin against God?" | Gen 39:9 | Shelly | 102115
Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil." People after Adam had the knowledge of God and good and evil, and they would have passed it on from generation to generation. The first few books of Genesis covers many hundreds of years of history, and there were many written accounts of this time. Moses combined these accounts together when he wrote Genesis. In Deuteronomy, when he gave the 10 commandments, the rules had already been in place - the commandments were just like a revision lesson to get them to sink in a bit better. |

71 | Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? | Matt 21:19 | Shelly | 101250
NIV Study Bible notes says: Matt 21:19 Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? This was not a thoughtless, angry act, but an acted-out parable. Jesus was showing his anger at religion without substance. Just as the fig tree looked good from a distance but was fruitless on close examination, so the temple looked impressive at first glance, but its sacrifices and other activities were hollow because they were not done to worship God sincerely (see 21:43). If you only appear to have faith without putting it to work in your life, you are like the fig tree that withered and died because it bore no fruit. Genuine faith means bearing fruit for God's kingdom. For more information about the fig tree, see the note on Mark 11:13-26. Mark 11:13-26 Fig trees, a popular source of inexpensive food in Israel, require three years from the time they are planted until they can bear fruit. Each tree yields a great amount of fruit twice a year, in late spring and in early autumn. This incident occurred early in the spring fig season when the leaves were beginning to bud. The figs normally grow as the leaves fill out, but this tree, though full of leaves, had none. The tree looked promising but offered no fruit. Jesus' harsh words to the fig tree could be applied to the nation of Israel. Fruitful in appearance only, Israel was spiritually barren. |

74 | what are letters above jesus on the cros | John 19:19 | Shelly | 93847
NIV John 19:19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. NIV Study notes: 19:19 This sign was meant to be ironic. A king, stripped nearly naked and executed in public view, had obviously lost his kingdom forever. But Jesus, who turns the world's wisdom upside down, was just coming into his kingdom. His death and resurrection would strike the deathblow to Satan's rule and would establish Jesus' eternal authority over the earth. Few people reading the sign that bleak afternoon understood its real meaning, but the sign was absolutely true. All was not lost. Jesus was King of the Jews--and the Gentiles, and the whole universe. |

77 | Role of the Elders - need references | Titus 1:6 | Shelly | 92077
Titus 1:6-9 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. [7] Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. [8] Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. [9] He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

79 | forgivess of blasphemy | John 3:3 | Shelly | 88012
NIV Bible study notes says: Mat 12:31, 32 The Pharisees had blasphemed against the Spirit by attributing the power by which Christ did miracles to Satan (12:24) instead of the Holy Spirit. The unpardonable sin is the deliberate refusal to acknowledge God's power in Christ. It indicates a deliberate and irreversible hardness of heart. Sometimes believers worry that they have accidently committed this unforgivable sin. But only those who have turned their backs on God and rejected all faith have any need to worry. Jesus said they can't be forgiven--not because their sin is worse than any other, but because they will never ask for forgiveness. Whoever rejects the prompting of the Holy Spirit removes himself or herself from the only force that can lead him or her to repentance and restoration to God. |
