61 | What is salvation? | Ps 68:19 | charis | 28144
Friends and colleagues, What is salvation? There are several aspects of salvation, what are they? I can name a few: Quickening of the Holy Spirit Repentance Justification Redemption Sanctification Conversion Regeneration Renewal Revival Restoration Eternal Judgment Resurrection I think there are more. (some may say less! :-)) How we line these things up, what we add, what we delete are how we view our relationship with God, and seem to be the root of our differences. Some may want to 'forget our differences and focus on our similarities,' but I think there is unity in fellowship and sharing of knowledge, not in ignorance or cognitive dissonance. :-) Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

63 | True disagreement? | Eph 1:13 | charis | 27822
Dear Joe! Greetings in Jesus' name! Thank you for a very respectful post of disagreement. :-) I am not as worried about those people that have been used 'most powerfully' as I am about the people that have been used the 'least powerfully!' I see many as saints that don't manifest completed saintliness. Are they saved? Or not? I see that the Word describes the baptism of the Holy Spirit as both instantaneous and progressive. I cite the observation of our colleague Tim Moran that the word pledge used in Ephesians 1:14 and 2 Corinthians 1:22 is a promise toward a future completion. You seem to be stating that it must be only one or the other. Friend I agree with you about the 'dreaded' two-tiered Christianity, but I am also wary of 'monomaniacal' dogma. You said that you agree that all the work is not done at conversion. It this progressive sanctification? If so, then I would say that we are more in agreement than you think! :-) Blessings, my brother, to you and yours this good season. May the Lord enrich your ministry to the lost and to the saved. 65 | HS manifestation needed for salvation? | Eph 1:13 | charis | 27615
Dear Saints, Greetings and love to all in the name of Jesus! When a person confesses Christ Jesus as Savior, but does not manifest the gifts or fruit of the Holy Spirit, is he (or she) saved? Merry 'Kirisuto ga oumare ni natta oiwai no kisestu!' (Season that we celebrate the birth of Christ) In Christ Jesus, charis |

66 | Automatic Holy Spirit? | Eph 1:13 | charis | 27259
Dear Saints and Fellow Forumers, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Many use this Scripture to prove that we are indwelt (filled) with the Holy Spirit the moment we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Yet, I also hear many saying that if a person 'backslides,' it is really that he was never really saved to begin with. How can we reconcile these two common beliefs? Is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit truly 'automatic,' synonymous with salvation? What of Luke 11:13 NASB, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" ? How can we on earth know that a person is saved? I know that we can 'look at the fruit' of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23), but what of those that HAVE manifest this fruit, yet through depression or temptation yielded to sin and returned to their former ways? Were they 'never saved?' (To be fair, I find it hard to believe that a person can go through multiple saved-unsaved-saved...states.) Blessings, one and all, this blessed season! In Christ Jesus, charis |

67 | Have you tried e-Sword? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 25796
Dear EdB and forum saints, Greetings in Jesus' name! Have you tried the e-Sword Bible software? I have been using it for about two months now, and it is very impressive! It is also FREE! (so far) I have used it on WindowsMe and Windows 2000 with no problems at all. Lots of add-ons, and very easy to use. Check it out at http://www.e-sword.net/ Oh, yes! In order to use the NASB, you must pay 20 dollars to them (it is worth it!). Also, for NIV fans, too bad, it's not available. ASV 1901, yes!! Finally, (for me) it is on your hard drive, so no CD-ROM to insert. I, too, want to hear about the Logos X. Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

68 | Ladies, do I owe you an apology? | 1 Cor 14:34 | charis | 25779
casiv, I think I would like to hear from women about this. You have not given any Biblical support for your opinion. Well, ladies, do I owe you an apology? If you think so, please remember this venue is dedicated to Bible study, so provide Scriptural evidence. Also, please cite why MY posts are degrading, not why MEN are chauvinists. :-) I know that I am taking a real chance here, but our colleague seems to be prophesying that one of you will set me straight. Now's your opportunity! :-) By the way, casiv, I have already clearly stated that *in Christ Jesus* we are all equal. I don't recall any men stating differently. In the home and in the church, the Bible places final authority and responsibility on men. Why? I really don't know! But it IS God's holy Word. :-) casiv, trying to get some clear answers about your faith is very similar to catching 'unagi!' (fresh-water eel) The difference is that I CAN catch 'unagi.' 69 | Who are 'others?' | Col 2:16 | charis | 25441
Dear djconklin, Peace to you in the name of Jesus! Please know that I am not being facetious when I ask: I don't know what you mean- Did three members of your flock send you encouraging mail about your sermon on Saturday (or Sunday)? Or... Did three members of this forum send you mail to the effect that they understood your point on this thread? Please lower your hackles! I have! :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

70 | What day do YOU attend church? | Col 2:16 | charis | 25410
Dear djconklin, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I see that you are being very careful to only answer the 'whole' question originally asked by cd3 back in April. You have made the point that Colossians 2:16 and 17 speaks nothing of the Sabbath. Fine. The 'short' version of the question, however, is pretty clearly asking, "What is the true worship day, Sunday or Saturday?" This question demands an answer such as "Saturday" or "Sunday" or "both" or "neither" or "it doesn't matter" or "I don't know" or SOMETHING! I was just wondering if you had an opinion about this? You intimated that your pastoral training kept you from making eisegetical statements or promulgating mythical dogma. So, maybe I can take a different tack, and ask you something that you CAN answer without obfuscation. What day do you attend church? Now see, that wasn't too bad! :-) Much easier than a root canal or a liver transplant! Please know that I don't seem to corner the market on sarcasm. :-) You do a fine job yourself! Please know that we are not trying to mean or anything. Those of us that have been around for a while have had to fight tooth and nail for clear Biblical statements. You might say that we desire 'hot or cold' and 'yes or no' answers, because there are so many 'lukewarm' and 'maybe' answers that are not answers. Peace to you in Christ Jesus, charis |
||||||
71 | Sunday or Saturday? | Col 2:16 | charis | 25377
Dear djconklin, The original question was "What is the true worship day, Sunday or Saturday?" After all you have posted, do you have an answer for that question? Trained as a pastor? Would your congregation be as confused as we are after your sermon? :-) Friend, I don't mean any disrespect. I truly can't see that you have made a conclusive statement on this issue. As our esteemed colleague 'Indiana Jones' pointed out, "...the kinds of technical questions that entertain scholars these days don't have much bearing on the lives of believers." Finally, stick to Greek! :-) Capisch? In Christ Jesus, charis |

72 | What IS your belief? | Col 2:16 | charis | 25347
Dear djconklin, Greetings in Jesus' name! I don't think that anyone on this forum (except maybe a few fruitcakes) think that they are not going by Scripture. EVERYONE says that! But please tell me, in plain language, what IS your belief? I have dutifully followed this thread, perused the given links, searched e-Sword, and scrolled through pages and pages of hypertext. I still don't know whether you are saying that we should repent and dump Sunday assembly, or it's technically wrong but morally OK, or what? This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! AMEN! Please clarify without paranthetical elaboration or oblique obfuscation. Blessings and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

73 | Bride eloping with the adulterous? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 25237

74 | 491? | NT general Archive 1 | charis | 25020
Dear GloriaLynn, Greetings in Jesus' name! What boggles the mind even more is to think about the line that we cross that takes away our salvation! After all, I have never met a sinless person. Which sin is 'unforgiveable?' 491? In Christ Jesus, charis |

75 | Do you understand me? | Deut 7:2 | charis | 24564
Johnny, I can't help but notice that you are not answering any of my questions to you, while demanding that I answer every one of your questions and debate every one of your assertions. My last post made some points that I would ask YOU to refute. I understand your aggressively pacifist stance. :-) Do you understand MY points at all? In Christ Jesus, charis |

76 | 3 baptisms or 1, or... | Col 2:12 | charis | 22989
Dear Nolan, Greetings in Jesus' name! Are you then saying that both water baptism AND baptism of the Holy Spirit are integral parts of this 'migration' from the Old Testament to the New Testament? I think the problem may be that we try to separate the three baptisms as completely different things. (sorry, I don't count 'baptism for the dead' among the 'pertinent' baptisms) Perhaps, if we look at if from the viewpoint of the writer of Hebrews, we may see that all three baptism are 'washings,' to the New Testament believer, and together they work to the end of sanctification. In this way, all three participate in our 'circumcision of heart,' and fulfil the promise and the command. My friend, I bring this forth humbly, as to one that has just recently made a decision to be baptised. :-) To reject water baptism as nothing to do with Colossians 2:11 and 12 seems out of order with the Scriptures. In Christ Jesus, charis |

77 | N.T. circumcision? | Col 2:12 | charis | 22844
Saints and brethren, Greetings in the name of Jesus! "...and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead." Colossians 2:12 NASB Is water baptism the sign of the New Covenant? Would it then be the promised 'circumcision of heart?' "Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live." Deuteronomy 30:6 NASB Also, would water baptism be a fulfilment of the Old Testament command? "Circumcise yourselves to the LORD And remove the foreskins of your heart, Men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Or else My wrath will go forth like fire And burn with none to quench it, Because of the evil of your deeds." Jeremiah 4:4 NASB. Blessings one and all! In Christ Jesus, charis |

79 | Prosperity/Stewardship? | Matt 25:29 | charis | 22186
Dear Searcher, Greetings in Jesus' name! If this is (then) fiscal responsibility, then how does a sheep wisely use his resources, and how does a shepherd wisely use his (the church's) resources? What is the responsibility of a sheep for the church/shepherd, and of the shepherd for the church/sheep? In the above parable, one method was pleasing to God, one was not. Does this speak of the 'prosperity' message, or simply good stewardship? In Christ Jesus, charis |

80 | Fiscal Responsibility? | Matt 25:29 | charis | 22170
Dear saints of the forum, Blessings one and all, in the name of Jesus! Does this verse apply only to spiritual talents, or can it also refer to fiscal responsibility? Are there any Scriptures that speak of the financial responsibility of both sheep and shepherds? In Christ Jesus, charis |
