63 | meaning of glory | Ezek 20:6 | azurelaw | 201653
Does the word "glory" only attribute to material provision since the Canaanites and the people in the area were idol worshippers and practiced all kinds of wickedness thus God had asked the Israelite to destroy them and not to follow their deeds in the time of Joshua's. Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

65 | vision or physical or both | Ezek 3:14 | azurelaw | 200633
If I understand it correctly, Ezek 3:14 is not a leading verse to v15. Verse 14 was describing a spiritual expereience of Ezekiel taken up in a vision where as after his such experience/vision, he went to sit beside the river Chebar at Tel-ab for 7 days in grieves. or (to my understanding, it is unlikely so) the Spirit lifted him up and took him away to sit beside the river Chebar at Tel-ab for 7 days in grieves? Thank you in advance for helping me to understand better. Shalom Azure |

66 | modes in aiding meditation | Gen 1:26 | azurelaw | 200340
Lately, in a meeting to discuss about an up coming summer youth camp programmes, apart from introducing bible study method, we were considering how to encourage the young to have a consistent meditation/contemplation moment. One of the participants said that she wanted to introduce some meditation modes in the camp for the young so that they have more to choose to make their meditation more refreshing: 1/ The traditional one which is chewing on a chapter or two repeatedly for meditation. 2/ Interacting with the nature with scriptures. She said you can stand in front of a tree, a plant, an insect or facing the sky, etc. something of the nature to do your meditation. You can even talk to the creature and open yourself to let God reveal Himself or His Word through it. Perhaps, I am too ignorant. This sounds new and strange to me. So, I asked about the origin of this mode. She said it was not a new thing and could be originated from St Francis (Catholic). She said she will provide me some more information about it. I want to know if this kind of mode in aids of meditation biblical. 3/ Through performing arts (like painting or drawing, etc.) to express what has had in mind when meditating God's Word. Like No. 2, this is new and strange to me as well. This kind of mode is unlikely to be considered. Still I want to know if anyone on the forum aware of it and your biblical comments is appreciated. 67 | Greeting kiss motive | Rom 16:16 | azurelaw | 200082
other verses: 1 Cor 16:20, 2 Cor 13:12, 1 Thes 5:26 Greeting with a kiss was their culture in that time. I find it interesting that my Chinese Bible translating the verses appear to be a focus on the motive of the behaviour whereas English version only uses the term "holy kiss". Here is the Chinese version I translate it back to English to demonstrate the difference in focus: Greeting one another with a kiss, you must be pure and sacred in your motive or mind. My question: 1/ Does the Chinese version transmit the core idea of the apostles when they said so to the church members? 2/ Could we further expand the teaching that even such a seemingly loving and caring behaviour, we should do with great caution? Thanks for your input and Shalom Azure |

69 | God's decree on His elects - oppression | Jer 50:33 | azurelaw | 199446
"...all who took them captive have held them fast..." Shall I understand it as on one hand, the Israelites and the Jews encountered oppression from ALL (first the Egyptians, then the Babylonians....the Nazis) for the reason that they are God's people; while on the other hand, all believers (in a broader sense of God's elect) shall also encounter persecution from many as what Jesus has taught beforehand. Therefore, the key is not the oppressors but the Elects (all believers) are not of the world? Hope I have explained myself clear. Shalom Azure |

70 | Philistines still survive today | Jer 47:4 | azurelaw | 198964
A question was asked by a youngster in my cell group : Are there any Philistines still survive today? I am not good at history. However, from the above scripture, does it mean that Philistines no long exist nowadays or that scriptures speaks only with the limitation in that historical and geographical aspect as recorded? 71 | Is procreation a command or a blessing | Gen 9:1 | azurelaw | 198878
Recently I have a brief discussion a with sister in Christ where she asked what consitutes to the validity of marriage? Is it justify for a divorce if the spouse is impotence? Her reasoning is that God wants us to be fruitful and husband and wife become one flesh under marriage. If either one party is impotence, how can it validate the marriage relationship and also fulfill the purpose of procreation? My question : Is being fruitful (to reproduce) a command or a blessing? I did a search and found that God had not said to Adam and Eve be fruitful but to other creatures made before them. (Gen 1:22, 1:28). The word used is "blessed". Only until Noah's time God BLESSED them to be fruitful (Gen 9:1). I appreciate your thoughts. Shalom Azure |

72 | How? | Mark | azurelaw | 197482
Repost post number 2120 : Is the command to "LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH" in Mark 12:29-34 and elsewhere something that we, as Christians indwelt by the Holy Spirit can attain with God's enablement in this life, or is this merely an impossible command designed to humble us in our sinfulness? I find the above old post when I google around. I feel it interesting and worth our pondering again and would like to have some more inputs. Shalom Azure |

73 | verse on sabbatical year | Jer 34:8 | azurelaw | 197449
Was it the sabbatical year when Zedekiah made the covenant to set free the slaves (Exo 21:2, Deu 15:12)? If so, where in the book of Jeremiah can I find that relevant verse? It seems quite obvious that it was the sabbatical year as per God's rebuking them in verse 14-15. However, I still hope to locate that relevant verse if possible. Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

75 | unpardonable sin in Ex 20:7? | Ex 20:7 | azurelaw | 196363
Matthew 12:31 talks about unpardonable sin. Can Ex 20:7 also refer to unpardonable sin? John Gill's commentary mentioned that the punishment if not in this life but the next life to come in the great judgment day (Targum of Jonathan). Thanks for your help for better understanding. Shalom Azure |

76 | A prophet | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 196053
Jeremiah 18:18, 26:8 Jeremiah was being persecuted by many and even at edge of death for his prophesying which the people claimed as false. I want to know what was the status of a prophet at the time of Jeremiah's. In Ch 27 v1-15, what Jeremiah said appeared to show him a betrayer (base on a national perspective). It is interesting to see those priests and other prophets did not charge Jeremiah for his betrayal discourse, but false prophesying. Your input and enlightenment is appreciated. Shalom Azure |

78 | What do we learn from praying | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 195800
Mat 6:9-15, 26:39, Mark 17, Act 7:60 What a privilege is "praying" granted to us by our most gracious God! So, what do we learn from praying... - to be submissive and obedient - to trust - to examine ourselves - to forgive - to ask for forgiveness - to humble ourselves - to love More inputs and enlightenment are VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. 80 | A divorced choir conductor cannot serve? | 1 Tim 3:2 | azurelaw | 192272
I know the topic of divorce has been discussed a lot in the past. However, my quick search on the subject seems could not find me something relevant to the situation. Does this overseer also apply to choir conductor? Are we to terminate the choir conductor's ministry due to his/her recent divorce despite his/her most willingness to serve? Shalom Azure P.S. Sorry that I clicked the "note" button by mistake while this is in fact a question I wanted to ask. |
