61 | Is man today left with a simple choice? | Gen 2:17 | Pastor Glenn | 65125
Man’s Choice: life and death, blessing and cursing From Life to Death Man was created with two natures, as well as, with two choices. By eating of the forbidden fruit (or acting on his faith), he chose to put his faith and trust in himself. His spiritual nature died immediately and therefore, he was left with only his dying physical nature (caterpillar). Matthew Henry Commentary: Gen 2:17 “Here, (1.) Adam is threatened with death in case of disobedience: Dying thou shalt die, denoting a sure and dreadful sentence, as, in the former part of this covenant, eating thou shalt eat, denotes a free and full grant. (2.) Adam is tried with a positive law, not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Here we have the very marrow and quintessence of the whole gospel, that faithful saying (1 Tim. 1:15), that Jesus Christ came to seek and to save the children of men from death, and recover them to life. Now sinners are dead men upon a twofold account:— (1.) As one that is mortally wounded, or sick of an incurable disease, is said to be a dead man, for he is dying; and so Christ came to save us, by healing us, as the brazen serpent healed the Israelites, v. 14, 15. (2.) As one that is justly condemned to die for an unpardonable crime is a dead man, he is dead in law; and, in reference to this part of our danger, Christ came to save as a prince or judge, publishing an act of indemnity, or general pardon, under certain provisos; this saving here is opposed to condemning, v. 16–18. 4. Christ, in the close, discourses concerning the deplorable condition of those that persist in unbelief and willful ignorance, v. 18–21. (1.) Read here the doom of those that will not believe in Christ: they are condemned already. (2.) Read also the doom of those that would not so much as know him, v. 19. Many inquisitive people had knowledge of Christ and his doctrine and miracles, but they were prejudiced against him, and would not believe in him, while the generality were sottishly careless and stupid, and would not know him. And this is the condemnation, the sin that ruined them, that light is come into the world, and they loved darkness rather. “ http://www.biblestudytools.net/Commentaries/MatthewHenryComplete Joshua 24:15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. Ecclesiastes 12 1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, "I have no pleasure in them": 5…...For man goes to his eternal home, And the mourners go about the streets. 6Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed,[1] Or the golden bowl is broken, Or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, Or the wheel broken at the well. 7Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it. 8"Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "All is vanity." ………13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. 14For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil. 63 | "...these necessary things: ..."??? | Rev 17:5 | Pastor Glenn | 64543
Robert, Thanks for your comments. My mother has told me of how they had to save my life using a blood transfusion on or about the first day after my birth. But, there is still one scripture that I cannot get past: Acts 15 "23They wrote this, letter by them: The apostles, the elders, and the brethren, To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings. 24Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, "You must be circumcised and keep the law"[5] --to whom we gave no such commandment-- 25it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.[6] If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell. " Notice: "...no greater burden than these necessary things: 29that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, ...". Why is this to be kept in the new testament? I think it is because God is saying in both the old and new testaments, that the life (spirit) is in the blood: Deuteronomy 12:23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh. John 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Is this really related to blood transfusions or DNA mixing? I wonder. Pastor Glenn |

64 | Should Christians remain silent on these | Rev 17:5 | Pastor Glenn | 64520
Pigs Created That Carry Human Genes! Concerning a news article at: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,66345,00.html "WASHINGTON — By manipulating swine sperm, Italian researchers have made a strain of pigs that carry human genes in their hearts, livers and kidneys, an advance that could lead to creating herds of pigs that could provide organs for transplanting into humans." Is this an abomination or what? It seems that no one cares how God feels about his creation design being twisted, sliced, or diced. Should the "ends" (everlasting life) justify ANY "means"? There is a continuing move to live forever without God. Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. Psalm 24 1 The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. Should Christians remain silent on these things? Pastor Glenn |

65 | could this scripture be related? Zech3:1 | Jude 1:9 | Pastor Glenn | 64458
EdB, You are right about the danger of them idolizing his tomb. They had, after all, idolized the bronze serpent that God had Moses to set up. By the way, could this scripture be related? Zechariah 3 1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 2And the LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?" It just sounds very simular to Jude 1:9. Pastor Glenn |

66 | saved regardless of their own attitudes? | John 5:24 | Pastor Glenn | 63858
Hank, I hate picking on just one statement that you made, but this one just looks strange. Where does this statement come from? "The doctrine of grace does teach that certain ones will be saved regardless of their own attitudes and responses. " If it is true then does that include "attitudes and responses" towards Christ? 67 | more outstanding Hebrew scriptures? | Is 53:1 | Pastor Glenn | 63095
In addition to Isaiah 53, Psalm 2, and Psalm 110, are there more outstanding Hebrew scriptures for searching Jews? I see these as outstanding because they readily show that no one else in history could possibly fulfil these prophecies of the Messiah except Jesus Christ. They thereby, link the old testament with the new testament. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

68 | Blaspheme against the Holy Ghost? | 2 Pet 1:10 | Pastor Glenn | 62621
Brother Moran, "... I don't see anything is the passage that indicates that such a person can never be saved again or can never repent...." "...No where else in Scripture are we told that it is impossible for someone to repent. ..." There is other scripture that speaks of the unforgivable sin of blaspheme against the Holy Ghost: Mark 3:28 "Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; 29but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation"-- 30because they said, "He has an unclean spirit." Luke 12:10"And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven. " Could it be that these are related to Heb 6 God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

70 | God is in control of every single atom? | Bible general Archive 1 | Pastor Glenn | 61718
Hank and the rest of this forum, I looked up this old thread dealing with God's sovereignty because someone recently said that "God is in control of every single atom." Then they used that reasoning to say that it follows that God chose His Elect before the foundation of the world, so free will is an illusion. They then further implied that He purposely made some to dishonor. If God purposely made some to dishonor then why would he say this: Ezek 33: 7"So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. 8When I say to the wicked, "O wicked man, you shall surely die!' and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, THAT WICKED MAN SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY; BUT HIS BLOOD I WILL REQUIRE AT YOUR HAND. 9Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. 10"Therefore you, O son of man, say to the house of Israel: "Thus you say, "If our transgressions and our sins lie upon us, and we pine away in them, how can we then live?"' 11Say to them: "As I live,' says the Lord GOD, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?' If God is in control of every atom then why would He say ”… THAT WICKED MAN SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY; BUT HIS BLOOD I WILL REQUIRE AT YOUR HAND…”? This reasoning would then lead right back to this thread: "Is God responsible for evil?". I have had past experience in a different forum, of atheists, where this exact same thread of "Is God responsible for evil?" was debated. In that forum some of the participants would sign up as a different person and start threads from the opposing view point. After a while, they would pull off their sheep’s clothing and revert back to their original view point to frustrate the Christians. I don't know who may be wolfs in disguise. I am not accusing others who have posted here. You can't really know if I am not one either. But we should be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves." We are warned to "beware of false prophets in sheep’s clothing". "Be not weary in well doing. In due season we will reap if we faint not." God bless, Pastor Glenn |

71 | Predestination: scriptures meaningless? | John | Pastor Glenn | 61244
JRdoc, Does'nt predestination make these scriptures meaningless? Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." Rom 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? Rom 10:15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!" Rom 10:16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?" Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Rom 10:18 But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; "THEIR VOICE HAS GONE OUT INTO ALL THE EARTH, AND THEIR WORDS TO THE ENDS OF THE WORLD." Also, it is clear that all men DO have a small amount of light. No one is in total darkness: John 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. God has dealt every man the measure of faith needed for a fair choice: Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 72 | Biggest battles any Christian faces? | 1 Cor 2:14 | Pastor Glenn | 60683
Ray, Isn't this one of the biggest battles that any Christian faces? We all need to strive to become more spiritually minded. Look into the following scriptures that relate to this: Heb 5 Spiritual Immaturity 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. 1Cor 3 1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not carnal? John 6 63It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Gal 5 Walking in the Spirit 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[3] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders,[4] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. The point is that brute force study is not enough. There is no substitute for prayer and fasting in learning the deep things of God. The Apostles realized this before they anointed the first 7 deacons. Daniel realized this also before he fasted 21 days until Gabriel arrived. God bless, Pastor Glenn |

73 | ALL christians in speaking out on sin? | Matt 7:2 | Pastor Glenn | 60572
Prayon, Excellent comments. As a followup question: So far we have talked about preachers. But, what is the responsibility of ALL christians in speaking out on sin? Is there a difference? Also, I would like everyone's permission to print your responses for bible class discussion. God bless, Pastor Glenn |

74 | ...with such an one no not to eat? | Matt 7:2 | Pastor Glenn | 60571
New Creature, Very well said. How about this verse that you posted? 1 Cor. 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. It appears to refer to "THOSE INSIDE". Does that mean that it is OK to eat with this person AFTER he is excommunicated? Also, do we treat this person differently than those sinners that have not called themselves "Christian"? God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

75 | Is it wrong to preach against sin? | Matt 7:2 | Pastor Glenn | 60552
Does this verse mean that we should not preach against the sins of others because we will be guilty of "Judging" others? I have heard this scripture quoted many times from "church go'ers". John the baptist was beheaded after preaching against sin. Was he wrong? Pastor Glenn |

76 | Does this mean that it is wrong to ask? | Rev 17:16 | Pastor Glenn | 59748
Brother John, You said:"Speculation in itself is can be a dangerous exercise. It can lead to the sinful practice of reading the scripture in the "light" of man's wisdom." Does this mean that it is wrong to ask the question as to whether Al-Qaeda or others that hate the Lamb (Christianity and Israel) and the Harlot that rides the beast could be part of Rev 17? It is true that God has not revealed everything we would like to know: Revelation 10:4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. 1Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. However, we already know that the spirit of antichrist is with everyone that denies that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh: 1John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 2John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. If there is something wrong with comparing todays events to Revelation scripture then why were these prophesies written? Some things were sealed and not written while others were written. Why? "...spin it however they want." Huh? Who really was it that held the Christian Missionaries hostage in Afganistan last year? And who really destroyed the twin towers in New York? Or did these things really happen? Pastor Glenn |

77 | Danger in "revelation theory" only. | Rev 17:16 | Pastor Glenn | 59580
Debbie, I think you are right about the dangers of having "revelation theory" as the only interest in our Christian study. I also agree that God does not want us to live in fear of the antichrist. However, we do need a healthy fear of the warnings of God as Noah had: Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. As for Al-Qaeda, maybe they are not the ten kings, but there is indication that they may represent a part of the beast himself, while those that provide funding are "as kings" for one hour with the beast(Rev 17:12). 17:13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength(money?) unto the beast. It is important to identify all personallities here: the Ten kings, The Harlot, and the beast. While they are all enemies of the Lamb, the Ten Kings are also enemies of the Harlot that rides the beast. Bless you- Pastor Glenn |

78 | Isn't every word of God vital to us? | Rev 17:16 | Pastor Glenn | 59536
Debbie, You said "Speculation will do nothing for the Kingdom - action w/prayer will! " Should we then ignore all other prophecies except for the promise of Jesus' return? Jesus said: Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Isn't every word of God vital to our lives? Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Was it "speculation" that allowed the wise men to recognize Jesus' star at His birth? Or was it a deep analysis of every word of the Hebrew scriptures(the Old Testament). |
