5081 | Is God so shortsighted? | 1 Tim 2:11 | EdB | 9537
Tim, we must read this passage in context, the context being "conduct in public worship". In that light Paul is not giving instructions on women in ministry but women in public worship. Paul never shut them out of ministry nor did he shut them out of public worship. He just said that women should not be teaching doctrine in public worship. Should we base our doctrine on this one passage? No. However if we read all through Paul’s teachings he referenced and addressed men in the position of church leadership not women. No one can deny that is the slant of his writing. In giving the qualifications of a Bishop, elder or deacons Paul again infers it being a man. It is true Paul never said it can’t be a woman, but I think it reasonable to say Paul writings definitely never intended a woman to be a Pastor. Can God use a woman in as Pastor? Absolutely God can do whatever He wants (this kid is not going to attempt to put God in any box). However before a woman does make that step she has to weigh her perceived call against the Bible’s teaching on this subject and what she has in her spirit. I do not think she should make her decision discounting any passage (like this that give direction) because someone said it was written for a particular situation and does not pertain to today. |

5082 | literalness between NAS77 and 95 | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 9535
Hank Excellent explanation and fantastic examples! I love the NASB but found the pre 95 version very hard to read aloud from. My senses were in conflict over word placement. The Updated version flows so much more smoothly, the words just come out. |

5083 | Is God so shortsighted? | 1 Tim 2:11 | EdB | 9447
Tim in context with this question is the question of women in ministry. Prayon said that this verse was not establishing doctrine but was merely correcting a problem within a local congregation. You agreed or so I thought. So I asked you the question do you think God to be so short sighted that he failed to include the needed information to correctly determine if this text was in fact stating doctrine or was just correcting a local situation? I'm not trying to put you on the spot but I think we have to face this issue. By saying God didn’t mean what he said, and you have to understand the situation and this is really what he meant is now opening the doors for all kinds of problems. Anybody that can make a plausible if not provable argument can now cast a shadow on almost any verse of scripture. We are seeing it beginning to happen with the homosexuals, they are saying the prohibition against homosexuality found in the bible isn’t that. They say it was included to stop male temple prostitution that God created homosexuals and they have been used through out history for God’s glory. Then they ask did God create second class citizens, in an effort to level the PC field. I’m certainly not trying to put women in ministry in the same light as the sin of homosexuality, but if we are going to apply outside standards to interpret one verse can we prevent another from applying outside standards to another? See where this leads where do we stop? I think we have to get back to a strict literal interpretation to avoid even more insidious conflicts in the future. |

5084 | Re: Explain this to me | Matt 28:19 | EdB | 9410
Hank, What a great idea to do this rather than remove the question from pending. I wish everyone that really didn't have an answer would follow suit. Many great questions (not saying this was a great question)get lost because people who just want to add a comment to enhance the discussion rather than submit an answer end up removing the question from pending. What a contrast the Mormons pay 10,000 dollars for the privelege of doing what Christ asked us to do, while most Christians sit and even refuse when begged. We must make Jesus proud. Ed |

5085 | Did David or Elhanan kill Goliath? | 2 Sam 21:19 | EdB | 9408
Steve you might be right but I see Goliath having 4 brothers in the 2 Samuel 19 passage. I figure that is why David picked up 5 smooth stones 1 Sam 17:40. David thought he might have to fight and kill Goliath's 4 brothers, after he was finished with Goliath.
5086 | Where did you get this info? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 9351
Tim Thanks, I was standing in awe. I thought it was something you knew off the top of your head. I was wondering how you kept track of things like that, when I have problems remembering my anniversary. :-) Ed |

5087 | On the use of Study Bibles | 2 Tim 3:16 | EdB | 9278
Now that I have just posted a response quoting from a book I read this and say Oh NO! What have I done? I haven't post to the forum in about 2 weeks and my first post is already wrong. :-0 I agree with what has been said here. In most cases you can just give a summary, I do not believe we have to reproduce the whole article to make a point. Many times just saying MacArthur in his book "whatever" said "thus and such", is more than enough. I do not need or want the whole article. If I feel a need to read the entire article, I can always ask for the whole article to be sent by e-mail. May I get off my sword now?:-) |

5088 | Please explain to me? | Titus | EdB | 8726
Mark obliviously if Donnag goes in the direction God has given her she will be okay, and I pray that is what takes place. I really don’t feel right about discussing this any further in an open forum. I wish I had your E-mail address. |

5089 | I need to know if this is a cult? | Titus | EdB | 8460
Donnag, You should go with what the Holy Spirit has put in your heart. In your previous responses you never mentioned you had the leading of God on this. Definitely do what God has shown you to do. Donnag I just want you to make sure you haven't been incorrectly influenced by someone on this forum into believing something that is not there. My heart goes out to you as I suspect you have left something very important out of this whole story. I pray God leads you to where you need to be. |

5090 | I need to know if this is a cult? | Titus | EdB | 8440
Donnag - A "visitor" what do you mean a visitor? Do you mean while you were praying and God was speaking another voice came to you? Or do you mean a visitor to the church? If so what exactly did he say and in what context. |
||||||
5091 | I need to know if this is a cult? | Titus | EdB | 8430
Donnag there is still more to this story. Your husband's ministry is connected to this woman in anyway? Does your husband have the same concerns about this woman you do? It sounds like your being excluded from the ministry, why do you stay?
5092 | I need to know if this is a cult? | Titus | EdB | 8424
Mark Why not wait until you have the whole story? How do you know that the dream was from God? How do you know that dream wasn’t from Satan trying to scare Donnag out of the church? Twice now someone has asked a question in this forum about their church in both cases the consensus of opinion was run, leave, get out. When did Christians become such cowards? The Word says the Gates of Hell shall not prevail. No where in the Bible does it tell us to take the path of least resistance. In fact the Word says we will probably be hated, despised and thrown down. It also says we have the victory! Don’t we have the obligation to pray? Don’t we think God can turn a bad situation around? Too many split from churches, that is why we have so much arguing within the Christian ranks. Quite frankly that is why we look a little foolish to the world. We claim power, victory and that prayer will change things. However when something happens we turn our tail and run. There was a long discussion in this forum on false teachers, this is exactly why there is false teachers instead of resisting we leave. The false teacher turns out a whole church of deceived, corrupted and badly taught disciples and they spread through other churches like cancer. I don’t know anything about Donnag and this church and unless your getting your information somewhere other than this forum neither do you. Did God call Donnag to this church? If God did then he had a purpose, has that purpose been completed? What is God’s will in all of this? Why is Donnag asking the forum instead of seeking God on this? Why are we trying to answer for God? Could God be using this whole experience to move Donnag to the closer walk with Him? Was Donnag sent to the church for just this particular situation to turn it around and put it back in order? Does Donnag have another motive? I’m not trying to be mean or spiteful here and I hope I haven’t offended you or Donnag. It’s I just take giving people advice very serious and especially when it is advice that could effect their walk with God. Let’s find out why Donnag is at the church, what does “curses the people mean”, and a few other things, what brought up the issue of size, and what Donnag thinks God wants to take place? Let’s find out what the problem is, then we can give Biblically sound advice. Most of all it will let us know what the problem is so we a forum of believers can stand in agreement in prayer, believing our God can solve this or any problem and expect to see God be God before us. |

5093 | Yet another capitalization question? | Heb 7:26 | EdB | 8233

5094 | Time lapse between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:3. | Gen 1:2 | EdB | 8229
DocSpock, Your right the gap theory is more than just a pipe dream it is a fairly well known theory made popular by two very popular study Bibles, Scofield's and Dake's. The idea is thought to have come from Thomas Chalmers a Scottish theologian of late 1700's early 1800's. The biggest problem to it is undermines the gospel by allowing death, sickness, killing, and suffering to occur before the fall in the garden. The theory has found favor by many as an effort to reconcile the Bible with ages placed on earth and various fossils and formations found within the earth. All of these are based on carbon dating. Carbon dating is now held in suspect by many scientist as being totally inaccurate on objects older than 4-6 thousand years. |

5095 | Who was Lemuel? | Prov 31:6 | EdB | 8122
Nolan I have always been taught that Jewish tradition held a similar view as Matthew Henry's. In fact I believe this is where Mr. Henry got it. From everything else I have read on the subject this would agree with what we know of the relationship of Solomon and his beloved mother Bathsheba. As one writer I read stated I too can almost imagine Solomon playing a game of hide and seek running through the palace as Bathsheba calls out to her little Lemuel. Be blessed and be a blessing |

5096 | EdB, Did He die on Thursday? | John 19:31 | EdB | 8121
Nolan he sounds like a good friend to have. Yes please do ask him as I would be very interested in his reply also.
5097 | EdB, Did He die on Thursday? | John 19:31 | EdB | 8116
Nolan then don’t take it seriously! Yes I did attend Good Friday service and Maundy Thursday services all my life and still do. I also know many of the Pastors that minister those services felt Jesus most likely was crucified on Thursday but don’t care to make waves. If you want to get serious and look at the evidence I can do that to. Check Leviticus chapter 23 and where you see the word 'Holy Convocation' substitute word 'Sabbath'. Trust me on this it’s the same, read verse 3. Now read verse 4-8 and what do you see Passover day is a Holy Convocation or Sabbath. What is the day after? Another Sabbath. For the Jews to crucify Jesus on Friday they would have been breaking the Sabbath they said they didn’t want to break in John 19:31. Notice also it is called a High Sabbath. Ask any Jew which Sabbath is the High Sabbath he will response the 'Shabbat Gadol' or 'Shabbaton' which all are names for the Passover Sabbath. Ask him also the name of the day before Passover and he will tell you it is called 'The' Preparation day. The days before weekly Sabbaths are also preparations days but are they are not known as 'The' Preparation day. You will have to trust me on this or ask a Jew, I have interviewed many on the subject. Let’s count Jewish days. They run from 6pm to 6pm. Trust me on this or read Genesis 1:5 and/or talk to a Jew. You say Jesus died some time after 3Pm Friday 3pm – 6pm Friday - 1 partial day 6pm – 6am Saturday or the Sabbath night-1 night 6am – 6pm Saturday or the Sabbath day - 1 day 6pm – 6am Sunday night - 1 night 6am – resurrection - 1 partial day Let’s add them up 2 partial days and 1 full day okay we will call that 3 days. But I only see 2 nights any way I count it to the Jew there was only 2 nights. We are short 1 night. Let’s look at Jesus the fulfillment of the spring feast. We know Jesus was considered the Passover Lamb. The Passover lamb was selected on Nissan the 10 th Exodus 12:3. For Jesus to fulfill the Christology, Jesus would had to be chosen that day which I believe he was by his triumphant entry and the people crying Hosanna 'save us' on what we call Palm Sunday. If he entered Jerusalem on Nissan the 10 th the Passover Lamb had to be killed at Twilight of the 14 th of Nissan or 4 days later. Jesus died at twilight on Nissan the 14 th which would be Thursday. Jesus’ resurrection fulfilled the feast of the wave offering and Jesus then fulfilled the feast of first fruits Lev 23:15-22 with Pentecost. You see he fulfilled all the spring or 'planting' feast and the only thing that remains are the fall or 'harvest' feast which I believe Jesus will fulfill with His return. Now do one last thing talk to a Messianic Jew, I haven’t found one that will buy the story that Jesus was crucified on Friday. Reading the account in the New Testament and knowing Jewish law they naturally assume it was Thursday or 'the' Preparation day before the Passover Sabbath I’m sure you will produce many books and commentaries that show me wrong and I assure you I can produce an equal number that agree with me. I have discussed and debated this subject for a few years. If you don’t want to consider conjecture that is equally okay since it has no effect on either of our salvations. Whatever you do or however you respond please bear in mine I have not attacked you in any way. I have not insulted your intelligence, belittled you or questioned your salvation. Please give me the same consideration. |

5098 | Drinking as a means of escape? | Prov 31:6 | EdB | 8105
Oh okay! I tried to answer your question evidently you won't receive what I said.
5099 | Drinking as a means of escape? | Prov 31:6 | EdB | 8083
Nolan I never viewed it as changing the subject I viewed it as answering your question with an example. We accept giving drugs to people in pain, as pain management. I do not see a Biblical prohibition against such. The only real prohibition I see against drinking is the various scripture warnings to “drunkards”. A drunkard is a person using alcohol to try to replace what only God can offer. By that I mean, people drink for various reasons, I submit to you that each and every one of those reasons can only be dealt with by God through Jesus Christ. If that is changing the subject or not addressing your question please restate your question. |

5100 | Drinking as a means of escape? | Prov 31:6 | EdB | 8076
Nolan Would you give a pain killer to a dying person in pain? Alcohol is drug just the same as morphine or cocaine, it lessens your awareness of pain, or at least let’s you ignore it. I think this passage shows there are times for drugs (such as pain management). It is only when we abuse it or try to substitute drugs for what only God can provide that we have a problem. |
