502 | Who are the Nicolaitanes? | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 195235
Hi Mickael, The church at Ephesus (Revelation 2:6) is commended for hating the "deeds" of the Nicolaitanes, and the church of Pergamos is blamed for having them who hold their "doctrines" (15). They were seemingly a class of professing Christians, who sought to introduce into the church a false freedom or licentiousness, thus abusing Paul's doctrine of grace (comp. 2 Peter 2:15, 16, 19), and were probably identical with those who held the doctrine of Baalam. 504 | Luke 17:37 | Luke 17:37 | stjohn | 195152
Hi Sandy2 I would think that verse 37 "Then they asked Him, Where, Lord?" makes it pretty clear that those who are taken are taken to judgment. There has been a great deal of speculation on this verse, but when we read it as it is, and let it be what it is, well, it's pretty clear don't you think? God bless John |

511 | Jeremiah 10:10-13 and Revelations 4:11. | Prov 23:7 | stjohn | 194890
Hi Ken. Welcome. I don't know how "deep" this is but, here is a thought. It would seem that these verses are talking about the total power and sovereignty of God, to accomplish all things. Indeed, the formation of clouds, the wind, rain, lightning, are all talked about in Jer.10:10-13 and in Rev 4:11 it says that not only is all creation by God's will but, also, the fact, it would seem from the text, that continued existence is do to the will of God. In reference to Prov. 23:7 What does your heart say? do you believe if God were to remove His hand, that it all would cease to exist? Or do you suppose, that nature could continue to carry on without Him? What do we as Christians really believe in our heart, do we believe in the "total" sovereignty of God, in ALL things, as it is taught in the Bible? Do we teach it? God Bless John |

Dear Cheri. I hope you will reconsider, there is much that you can learn here at SBF and your presence here is welcome. As to the petition? Well, why don't you just post the link, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest, Instead of funneling everyone through your personal email? I am sure that no-one minds you posting something as important as this issue is, but, please remember that SBF is not a social club or chat-room; directing everyone through your email may not be the best way to get information to people. 513 | Where is 'Be in the world not of the wor | John 18:36 | stjohn | 194116
Hi Tim, welcome to the forum. I hope these are the verses you are looking for. John 15:19 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. John 17:14 "I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. John 18:36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm." Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. 1 Tim 6:17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. God bless John |

514 | Is anxietyand fear sinful? | Philippians | stjohn | 193319
Dear Tim, Hello, first I'd like to say that I agree with everything that Doc has told you and most of the other advice that has ben given, I hope that it has helped you in your quest to help your friend. I'd like to add this note however. The chemical imbalances, that are found in the brains of those that are clinically depressed, abnormally fearful, bipolar, schizophrenic, etc. may be a symptom of their condition, that is, it is not known whether it is the cause, or just a symptom. In other words, (I believe) that it is possible, if not probable, that these imbalances may accrue after the person succumbs to these abnormal feelings. the bottom line, trust God and His word. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things." Philippians God bless John |

515 | "health and wealth..." | Bible general Archive 3 | stjohn | 192630
Hello RikM, I think that Mr. Copeland, and friends, should take their message to sub-Saharan Africa and preach it to the millions and millions of christians that are riddled with disease, starvation, and steeped in penurious poverty. I wonder how long they would last in that environment? I would like to know, when the Gospel of Christ and the Apostles, changed from one of "salvation" to one of "health and wealth" ? God bless John |

516 | Is it O.K. to question the Scriptures? | 1 Cor 2:2 | stjohn | 192616
Hello Lucciola, a big welcome to the family of God! And welcome to the forum! These are all questions that I have asked. As a new believer, I had been an evolutionist and had many questions just like the ones you are asking. Evolution used to make a lot of sense to me, but just not the idea that life could start on it's own, the better I know our Lord and God the more I think that the reason he didn't give us that much information on HOW he created us is because that is NOT important, what is important, is to keep our eyes on Jesus and to do his will and desire, for us. How he did it is not an issue when it comes to pleasing Him. Just be grateful that He did it, and gave us the opportunity to know Him. By the way, things will become more clear, as you study His word. Also, you may want to be careful about asking those kind of questions, as some do get offended and will try to get you on the "right track" as if you could somehow lose your salvation if you don't see creation exactly as they do. You can be sure that you will change your view, this may take time, the Holly Spirit is a gentleman and will not shock you into submission. Keep your eyes on Jesus my new sister. Don't worry about how He did it, just thank Him for doing it! God bless you John |

517 | new version | John 3:16 | stjohn | 192253
Hello babi, I hope this is not too brief, of course much more can be said on this subject. Suppose a man of power and authority catches you stealing and cheating, but instead of putting you in jail he lets you go free. .... That would be mercy. Now, imagine that he gives you the most wonderful and valuable gift, a gift you could keep forever, and all you have to do is receive it.... That would be grace. In place of getting what you deserve, and that would be jail... You get a gift instead. Now thats GRACE! God bless John |

518 | Would his heart not be humbled? | Romans | stjohn | 191902
Hello Steve, all very good questions, thank you! Q.. "Is he concerned with his own glory?" A.. Jesus took the place of a servant and washed the feet of his students the apostles. Q.. "Does he do so in a condescending way?" A.. Jesus walked a long way out of his way to meet with a woman at a well so He could give her the Gospel. At first she was quite rude, but but He was gentle with her, and won her heart with kindness and reason. Q.. "Does he do so as if he is the authority on scripture?" A.. The apostle Paul, when confronted with the scholarly wisdom of the greek philosophers, did not profess to know anything but Christ and Him resurrected. That is the essence of the Gospel. Q.. Does he approach it as if he is the only one who knows anything at all about God's word? A..1 Cor 13:9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 1 Cor 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. Q.. "What affect does pride have on his effectiveness to teach? A.. Prov 11:2 When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom. Prov 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. Q.. Would his heart not be humbled at what God has called him to do and be obedient, humbled and gracious in that calling? A..1 Pet 5:5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; [AND ALL OF YOU], clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. [emphasis mine] God bless John |

519 | Acceptance of evil??? | Rom 1:1 | stjohn | 189954
Hi Ceebee, Thanks for your reply, and another good question. I hope you don't think you are number two on my book, ;-) but I answered Steve [humbledbyhisgrace] on this matter, and I hope my post to him will answer your question. It certainly seems that the early Church, was a lot more holy then the Church of today. If you like read, Acts 5, I believe it gives us a good idea as does the whole Bible for that mater, on how severely God looks at and deals with sin. Unfortunately your problem is not new, or rare, in the Church, how much more affective we would be, if we truly were holy and separate form the world and the sins of the world. God bless. John |
