Greetings sapian59, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! One good site with lots of info on Apologetics is the CARM web site http://www.carm.org/ There is a section on this site called Bible Difficulties that might help you in the area you are asking about. Something to keep in mind! Your enemy is very clever! Your foe is blind! Both fear and hate the truth! But you, You have the truth of God's word. Stand firm in it and do not be deceived! Many if not most of the time one will try and present you with questions and/or statements cleverly devised to trip you up. Consider the questions/statements, evaluate it with the clear teaching of scripture, then stay with what the scripture says. Many times a Christian will feel like they have to respond and answer every silly question someone has. But they need only speak what God's word actually says! Let the non believer wrestle with it. In other words, when you present them with God's word, they will try and lead the conversation as far from the truth as possible. Refuse to move from it! Also, keep in mind 1 Corinthians 2:14 (NASB) "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised." Keep this in mind and don't find yourself at a place where you are trying to convince them. By that I mean trust in God's word and the power of the Holy Spirit not your own abilities to convince. If the natural man is to ever accept the things of God, God Himself will have to intercede (1 Corinthians 2:11-13). One last thought! Isaiah 55:11 (NASB) "So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." God bless, Steve |

Greetings Sapian, Considering your recent experience, I thought you might like this quote from the Bible Knowledge Commentary in reference to 1 Corinthians 2:14 "Like a deaf critic of Bach or a blind critic of Raphael is the unregenerate critic of God’s Word."—Bible Knowledge Commentary Steve |

44 | Women in power? | Bible general Archive 4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 208458
Greetings willownanny! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! We try not to discuss denominational issues here. The Terms of Use on this web site has some rules of engagement on the issue so I would encourage you to read it and understand it for the benefit of the forum and yourself :-) The forum is a Study Bible forum so we try and stick with that and not denominational issues which have a tendency some times to create conflict. You can however do a search on this forum and find scripture regarding women in the church which have been discussed in the past. You might want to try that and see what can be learned from those past discussions. Hope this helps! Steve |

46 | Did He mean today or someday? | Bible general Archive 4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 208884
DW, It doesn’t matter about the punctuation. That is not what determines the meaning of the passage. The JW’s teach there is no intermediate state of the dead and no eternal punishment for the lost despite the clear teaching in scripture that refutes them. This is why they use this argument. However, Scripture clearly teaches there is an eternity for both the lost and saved. Everlasting punishment for the lost and life eternal for the saved. (Matthew 25:46, Luke 16:19-31, Luke 23:43, Hebrews 12:9, Revelation 6:9-11, Revelation 14:9-11, Revelation 20:10)! Steve |

Greetings Brother, Good stuff! Just wanted to toss this in the mix also. See Romans 8:9-11 Romans 8:9-11 (NASB) 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the SPIRIT OF GOD dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the SPIRIT OF CHRIST, he does not belong to Him. 8:10 IF CHRIST IS IN YOU, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 8:11 But if the SPIRIT OF HIM who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Emphases added! Granted, the triune God is not easy to wrap ones mind around and even harder to put to words but it's impossible to argue against the deity of Christ Jesus considering all of Scripture! Yours was an excellent post brother! Well said!!! Steve |

50 | Most accurate translation of Bible? | Bible general Archive 4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 210727
Greetings SAnsel! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I have both the NASB and ESV. I like both but find myself using the NASB 99.9 percent of the time both in teaching and study. I know you were not looking for opinions but just thought I would offer that anyway :-) You can read about the NASB translation on this web site. Look at the top of the page and click on the menu item labeled "Bible Information". Select the different options from the drop down menu to read about the NASB translation. Bottom line, I think you would do fine with either the NASB or ESV. If I was going to give you one as a gift it would be the NASB :-) By the way, there are several sites on line that you can use to compare the two translations. www.biblegateway.com or www.blueletterbible.org are a couple that come to mind. Hope this helps! Steve |

54 | Amazing Grace! | Bible general Archive 4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 215210
We started the service off with a baptism and ended it with 6 coming forward. I think all were there to profess what they had received (Salvation). Praise God! There was so much going on I never did hear it all. As a commitment counselor I was working with a young lady and her Father that had come forward so I missed out on some of the details of the rest. It's always a blessing to witness the work God is doing in the hearts of His people! Steve |

56 | Reformers Say God's Mot. Of Salvatation? | Bible general Archive 4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 215398
What is Reformed Theology? Reformed theology... ...presupposes God's Word alone as our ultimate authority. ...stresses the sovereignty of God, that is, His reign over all things, meticulously determining (Eph 1:11) all that comes to pass (i.e. God is never taken by surprise). ...ephasizes a Christ-Centered proclamation of the gospel, that salvation is wholly of God, by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone as revealed in the Scripture alone to the Glory of God alone. ...views the Bible as a redemptive-historical organic unfolding of revelation which is structured by three covenants (redemption, works and grace). It goes without saying that those in the Reformed Tradition hold to the doctrines of grace (the five points of Calvinism), man's helpless condition apart from Christ, the necessity of evangelism and the work of the Holy Spirit who (monergistically) quickens the dead to life through the preaching of the word as God turning their heart of stone to flesh, and opening their eyes to the excellencies of the gospel (uniting them to Christ). In other words, RT stresses the way the objective, written Word together with the inner, supernatural ministry of the Holy Spirit work together. For the Word without the illumination of the Holy Spirit remains a closed book. We (the church) cast forth the seed of the gospel and the Holy Spirit germinates it, so to speak, with the blood of Christ bringing forth life in people from every nation, tribe, language, and people (Rev 14:6). RT traces its historical and theological lineage back to the theology of Christ, Paul, Augustine and to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th Century. The above is taken from http://www.monergism.com/ You can take the link "An Overview of Reformed Theology" on the main page to view the reference above. The page also includes other resources you may research for further study. Steve |

57 | Did Adam / Eve know the meaning of evil | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 157505
Hello wonbyone, Genesis 2:16-17 NASU 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." They knew they were not supposed to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil because God had commanded them not to do so. Take a look at Genesis 3:22 (NASU) Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever" I believe this verse shows that they did not know the meaning of evil until after they had been disobedient to God's command. |

Oh I understood the post with no problem. And the key is called discernment. I agree, there should be no games played here. Doc had already pointed out to the poster, this is a bible study forum. However, they simply ask the question are any biblical references or meanings behind the number. I fail to see any reason to assume the poster was playing games. If I missed something then please correct me. Could have simply been they were seeking the truth and instead found sarcasm. What kind of message does that send? Should we not instead try and draw them in, to discuss the truth with them? It's as if this has become too widely accepted on this forum. Why I don't know when there are so many of you that participate on this forum with so much knowledge of the scriptures that can be shared with others. I guess knowledge of scripture and wisdom don't always go hand in hand. I don't know if you have spent much time looking around the internet, but this is one of the best if not the best bible forums out there. Lot's of knowledge on this forum! But it's as if something is creeping into this place. We can either resist it are allow it to take over. I'm sorry brother, I don't want to be at odds with you or anyone else on this forum. The problem is too much of this goes on and I wonder how many realize the number of people that are reading along and never post. I also can't help but wonder how many are run off after reading some of the post. I know it's not my forum and I don't dictate the rules. I'm just concerned about some of the things I see. When you can't find God in it, then you have to wonder what it's doing here??? |
