I was speaking about Isaiah not Luke. There is absolutely no denying the virgin birth. I merely stated that Isaiah 7:14 would not be a reliable source for support.
42 | I cannot read a sealed book | Is 29:11 | gbennett76 | 95420
Joseph Smith was never educated beyond the 6th grade. He was essentially an "unlearned man". This verse has reference to the gold plates, or the Book of Mormon, being delivered to Joseph for the purpose of translation. The translation was made possible through the Power of the Priesthood and use of the Urim and Thummim, which were buried with the plates. The verse that speaks of the learned man was a prophecy of an event that happened almost word for word. Martin Harris brought a paper with some of the characters from the gold plates written on it. An expert examined the characters and authenticated them. When Martin Harris told the expert that the writings came from a record of gold plates, that were in part sealed, the "learned man" said, "I cannot read a sealed book."

I'm sorry but I must comment. This is a question that deserves an in depth look at the Hebrew understanding of God and who he is. El which is the name for god actually means "head of the gods". An example would be Elohim which means "the most high god of holiness". The Christian understanding of God is rather a simplified "one god" and thats it..period. However Orthodox jews from ancient times have seen God as a masculine head deity with an emanating female force which is referred to as the "shekhina"(not sure of spelling). The Christian understanding or rather its mutation of the original view of God has the shekhina replaced by "Holy Spirit".."One in Being with the Father". For deeper reading and understanding of this please read on: The Jewish-Kabbalistic version of Shakti; the female soul of God. The idea was the God could not be complete, whole, until he was united with her. The Kabbalists believed that it was God’s lost of his Shekina which brought about evil. From the Hebrew Shekina means "dwelling place," giving the concept that God had no "home" without her. Like her Tantric counterpart Shakti, the Sh’kina was the source of all "soul" in the universe. The Gnostic Christians of the fourth century spoke of Sh’kina as a "spirit of glory" in who Beings of Light lived, as children in their mother’s body or home. Mani referred to the Aeons of sh’kinas or female spirits of the sacred year.Jewish mystics claimed the "outer garment" of the Shekina is the Torah, "Holy Law." Man becomes a Bridegroom of the Torah by study, symbolized in erotic imagery. He has to court her as he would a beautiful maiden. "She begins from behind a curtain to speak words in keeping with his understanding, until very slowly insight comes to him." The Shekina as the "Indwelling One" might be compared to the Latin I-dea, or Goddess Within. "She opens the door of her hidden chamber ever so little, and for a moment reveals her face to her lover, but hides it again forthwith…He alone sees it and is drawn to her with his heart and soul and his whole being. The love story of wisdom and Solomon is recorded in the Song of Solomon and throught Psalms and Apocryphal books such as Wisdom and Sirach. An interesting note that the Greek term for wisdom is "Sophia"--the name of the great greek goddess of wisdom. If one were to view the writings of Solomon in the greek sense we see the fullfillment of Shekhina in this ..the wisest man who ever lived! "The hexagram, which came to be known as the star of David, was introduced into Judaism in the Middle Ages via the Tantric influence on Medieval Jewish cabalists. Shekina is the Jewish Cabalist version of the Hindu Shakti, who when joined to Her male counterpart forms the perpetual sexual union believed to maintain life in the Universe. This reunion was symbolized by the Tantric mandala – Shakti (the downward pointing triangle) and Shiva (the upward pointing triangle).Israel’s sins caused the Shekina to leave the tabernacle, but some rabbis insisted that She returned when the second temple was built. It was God’s loss of his Shekina that brought about all evils. The Shekina is inseparable from God, as opposed to the holy ghost which borders on idolatry. Many theologians and scholars realize that the Holy Spirit written as, "Pneuma" in Greek everytime it appears in the New Testament, is a feminine being. Note that Pneuma is a feminine word in Greek. This would make Pneuma, the Holy Spirit, a Christian Goddess, not a mysteriously veiled member of an all-male Trinity "club." Also, the Holy Spirit appears at Yeshua's baptism in the form of a dove. The dove has long been a symbol of the Goddess in the Ancient Near East, and was never used to symbolize a god. We must also look in the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, and consider the Goddess Sophia. Her name means "Wisdom." She is the Goddess of Wisdom referred to repeatedly in scripture as the wife of God-the-Father. See Proverbs, Song of Songs, also called Song of Solomon, the Book of Sirach and the Book of Wisdom from the Apocrypha (found in the center of any Catholic Bible). Asherah, the Shekinah, was originally worshipped right alongside her lover/husband Yahweh, or El, as He is also called in ancient writings. You've probably noticed His name in names like Mi-cha-EL, Gab-ri-EL, Rach-EL, which mean respectively, "Who is like God?", "Power of God," and "Fair One of God." In Genesis, God the Father turns to some companion, we are never told whom, and says, "Let us make man after our own image." Jewish mystics and scholars of the Kabbalah have pointed out the obvious: Yahweh is talking to His wife. Even more intriguing: many researchers say it is She that is speaking to Him. The Hebrew word used for "God" in Genesis is Elohim, the plural of Eloah, a feminine title for the Goddess. Eloah (sometimes spelled Elat) is the female "half" of El. This Hebrew Goddess in Genesis is Asherah, the Shekinah, the Lady, speaking with Her mate. They agree to create, and so here we are. Many ancient religions, including the Greeks, believed that heaven is a male God who "covers" the feminine earth, Gaia in an intimate embrace. The earth, thus regularly impregnated, bears fruit. Asherah, the Shekinah, consort and beloved of Yahweh. God-the-Mother. Her sacred pillars or poles once stood right beside Yahweh's altar, embracing it. Moses and Aaron both carried one of these Asherah "poles" as a sacred staff of power. The Children of Israel were once dramatically healed simply by gazing at the staff with serpents suspended from it. This symbol, the snakes and the staff, has become the modern universal symbol for doctors and healers.* Asherah was also widely known in the Middle Eastern ancient world as a Goddess of Healing. Then She was removed forcibly from the Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures around 400 or 500 B.C. Daughter of Zion, a term found numerous times in the Old Testament, was perhaps a term for a priestess of Asherah. As the "official" state worship became increasingly male oriented, and the establishment became hostile toward all forms of Asherah worship, a time of conflict and bloodshed lasting over a hundred years began. Those that still clung to Her worship paid the price with their lives at the hands of King Josiah and other rabid Yahwists. (Story in the Old Testament). But She could not be torn from the hearts and souls of Her people. |

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: 21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. 22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. 32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. 34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. 36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death. Proverbs 8:22-36, King James Version ---YES THE BIBLE DOES REVEAL THE GODDESS! AND HER NAME IS WISDOM---SOPHIA. Proverbs tells us that SHE was with the Father before the WORLD was. AND the Bible warns against those who would deny Wisdom her rightful place. "35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. 36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death." |

Excerpt from Maragret Starbird's THE WOMAN WITH THE ALABASTER JAR: "It was my love for Christ that led me to revisit the Gospel story in search of his lost Bride. Years of research had convinced me that the celibacy of Jesus was a false doctrine and that the interpretation of the New Testament needed to be revised to include his wife. But who was this wife, and why was she not mentioned in the Gospels? I wondered. What could have happened to her? According to Scripture, God's Messiah, the Anointed One, will give sight to the blind and cause the lame to walk; comfort the broken-hearted and proclaim liberty to captives; and set prisoners free and proclaim the day of God's favor. These messianic activities prophesied by Isaiah are recognized in the actions and miracles of Jesus in the Gospels. No mention here of bondage in heaven or on earth! The God of the Hebrew Scriptures did not wish his people to serve in bondage, but rescued them from slavery in Egypt and brought them home from captive exile in Babylon. Based on the New Testament texts, Christians are quick to claim that Jesus was the promised Messiah of Israel, fulfilling ancient prophecies from the Scriptures, but they almost universally fail to mention the woman who anointed Jesus -- the woman with the alabaster jar who knelt before him, poured her fragrant unguent over his head, and dried her tears from his feet with strands of her hair. And yet the Hebrew word *messiah* literally means "the Anointed One." And, although the details vary a little, there is only one story of an actual anointing of Jesus recorded in the canonical Gospels of the Christian faith: an anointing by a woman at a banquet in Bethany! My research had shown me that in the ancient rites of the Near East, it was a royal bride who anointed the king. Together they embodied the Divine in a life-sustaining partnership -- the *hieros gamous*. My revised interpretation of the anointing scene from the Gospels outlined in _The Woman with the Alabaster Jar_ sheds new light on the dangerous fracture in Christian doctrine, providing a partnership model to transform Christianity at the threshold of the approaching third millennium. The anointing of Jesus in the Gospels is an enactment of rites from the prevailing fertility cult of the ancient Middle East. In pouring her precious unguent of nard over the head of Jesus, the woman whom tradition has identified with "the Magdalene" (meaning "the Great"!) performed an act identical to the marriage rite of the *hieros gamous* -- the rite of the anointing of the chosen Bridegroom/King by the royal representative of the Great Goddess! Jesus recognized and acknowledged this rite himself, in the text of his role as the sacrificed king: "She has anointed me in preparation for burial" (Mark 14:8b). Those who heard the Gospel story of the anointing at the feast in Bethany would certainly have recognized the rite as the ceremonial anointing of the Sacred King, just as they would have recognized the woman, "the woman with the alabaster jar," who came to the garden sepulchre on the third day to finish the anointing for burial and to lament her tortured Bridegroom. She found an empty tomb. Highlights of this story recounted in the four Christian Gospels are reminiscent of myths celebrated in pagan fertility cults of the Middle East, those of Tammuz, Dumuzi, and Adonis. In the pagan rituals surrounding the ancient myths, the Goddess (the Sister-Bride) goes to the tomb in the garden to lament the death of her Bridegroom and rejoices to find him resurrected. "Love is stronger than death" is the poignant promise in the Song of Songs and similar love poetry of the Middle East celebrating these ancient rites of the Sacred Marriage. " |

I have not ignored your understanding of this term..Since it is neutrul as you say does this not mean it can also be feminine as well as masculine. I see no reason to argue a point that does not contradict my previous statement but merely reaffirms it. From Kolob, gbennett76 |

50 | Lehi Part 1 | Ezek 14:22 | gbennett76 | 95442
Lehi Part 1 The greatest and clearest prophesies regarding the Book of Mormon are found in the books of Isaiah and Ezekiel. Ezekiel, who was a priest of the family of Zadok, was taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar along with Israel's king, Jehoiachim in 598 B.C. According to Biblical scholars he prophesied to the Jews for 22 years (592-570 B.C.) during his time in captivity. This would have made him a contemporary of not only the prophet Jeremiah but also of Lehi. As such, it is possible that Lehi, Ezekiel and Jeremiah either knew each other or knew of one another. Because of this possibility, let's take a closer look at what Ezekiel prophesied. In Ezekiel 12:1-6-we see that the Lord commanded Ezekiel to perform some unusual tasks. But before we examine why God had him do these things, we need to keep in mind that during all this time Ezekiel was already living in captivity in Babylon. (According to Biblical scholars, he lived in the city of Tel Abib.) If that is true, then what was the purpose of him performing these strange acts? Ezekiel was a prophet, and as such, his responsibility was to PROPHECY to the Jews. Therefore, all of these acts which the Lord asked him to perform were symbolic of events that related to the house of Israel. With that in mind, let's continue reading about this prophecy. In verses 7-11 we have to first realize that Ezekiel is talking about two different things in this prophecy. He is talking about both those in captivity and those who are in exile. There are some who might think that Ekekiel is only referring to captivity but verses 12 through 16 shows us that this isn't the case. It states, "And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes. My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there. And I will scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them. And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall scatter them among the nations, and disperse them in the countries. But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence; that they may declare all their abominations among the heathen whither they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD." The prophecy concerning the prince and those that were with him was fulfilled almost immediately. This was the part concerning their captivity. But notice there is another part of this prophecy that talks about a few who would be saved "from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence." These people the Lord would "scatter them among the nations, and disperse them in the countries." And these would "declare all their abominations among the heathen whither they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD." In other words, this is a prophecy of people who would go into exile, rather than into captivity. In another prophecy, Ezekiel again made mention of these people . In chapter14:22-23 he wrote, "Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it. And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD." In still yet another prophecy found in the sixth chapter, verses 8-9, Ezekiel wrote, "Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries. And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives." |

51 | Lehi Part 1 | Ezek 14:22 | gbennett76 | 95443
Lehi part 2 Who are these people who escaped the sword, were scattered among the nations and dispersed in various countries? Who is this remnant that shall come forth so that we can "see their ways and their doings" declared the abominations of the Jews and help us know that the Lord has not done these things without a cause? According to the story found in the Book of Mormon, a man named Lehi, who was a prophet, lived in Jerusalem shortly before its destruction. Like Ezekiel and Jeremiah, Lehi warned the city's inhabitants of the desolation that would be pour out upon them if they didn't repent of their wickedness. In time there were some who sought to silence his message as others before him had been silence. They plotted to take his life. However, Lehi was warned in a dream to leave Jerusalem. Therefore, Lehi, along with his family, quietly carried some of their "stuff" through the walls of the city and "brought it forth in the twilight" hours of the night where they finally camped out about a three day's journey away in the wilderness. While there, Lehi was shown in a dream a land that the Lord promised to take him to. Shortly thereafter, Lehi and his family packed up all of their belongings and traveled for over eight years, first in a southwesterly direction, and then in a more easterly direction until they came to a large body of water. There, the Lord commanded one of Lehi's sons to build a ship. When the work was completed, they set sail, and after the space of many days they arrived at the land which the Lord had promised to Lehi. That land was here upon the American continent. Lehi and his family were part of the remnant spoken of by Ezekiel. They were taken from Jerusalem before its destruction, thereby literally being saved "from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence." But how shall we see their ways and their doings and therefore know that the Lord has not done these things without a cause? How would they declare the abominations which the Hebrews had done? To answer this question, let's ask another one. How do we know what things the Lord has done to the Jews? If it wasn't for the Bible - God's record of His dealings with the Hebrews - only a few scholars would even be interested enough to find out through archeological evidence. It is mostly because of the Bible that we know what God has done. Then how do we know about the remnant that were scattered among other countries?. Because of the books they wrote. Today, we know about at least one of those remnants of the house of Israel because of the books they wrote. The Book of Mormon is a record of those people. Like the Bible, it is a record of God's dealing with a remnant of the Hebrews who were saved from the sword and from famine and from pestilence. Because of this book, we now have a better understanding of why God brought this evil upon the house of Israel and that He didn't do it without a just cause. But this record wouldn't have been written if it hadn't been for Lehi being faithful and obedient to the commandments of the Lord. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to leave his beloved country and just about everything he owned. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to travel through wilderness and treacherous mountains for more than eight years. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to settle in a new land that was completely foreign to what he once knew. But, because of his faith and courage, he did as the Lord required of him. As such, he is an example for us to follow. Like the Jews of old, there are many today who don't want to listen to what the voice of the Lord has to say. Instead, they only want to follow their own ideas. But, if we follow Lehi's example of being humble and willing to do whatsoever things the Lord commands, we too can often be saved from problems, both large and small, minor or severe. Without his faithfulness, the Book of Mormon would not have been written. For this I am grateful to him. |

First of all there is no book of lehi, secondly I have supported my posts with biblical references. The fact that you disagree with the interpretation that I give is still within the stated guidelines. If you are stating that your view is "biblical" and mine is not than again this is your personal viewpoint. As we both know the interpretations for any given scripture are numerous as there are people. This forum does not state or espouse a specific creed; it merely asks that the bible be used as the reference for which a post is posted. That is as I have done. Just due to the fact that the majority of opinions here reflect an evangelical slant does not infer that this forum is solely for evangelicals.

The following is a quote from THE LOCKMAN FOUNDATION: "It's not a discussion group or topical survey, but an ever growing "expository repository" that gives the layman and scholar an opportunity to share truth and contribute wisdom." I believe this is what I HAVE BEEN DOING! You however and many of your consorts have continued to tear down and "discuss" the truths and wisdom which I have posted. |

I am sticking with "canonical scripture"... however if you are saying that I should not use references than perhaps your sermon woould benefit most of those who post here whom use commentaries, quotes, websites, scholarly works and 'study bibles'. The fact that I refer to other works that are not within your scope of theological sources is not a legitimate basis for dismissing my posts as unbiblical.

Error is only error when you perceive it to be. The fact is that error is not reality. The only truth that exist is that which is not in error. In the words of Mary Baker Eddy: "Error is unreal because untrue. It is that which seemeth to be and is not. If error were true, its truth would be error, and we should have a self-evident absurdity-namely, erroneous truth. Thus we should continue to lose the standard of Truth." Basicaly what I am saying is this: "I would no more quarrel with a man because of his religion than I would because of his art." |

"conforming to established doctrine especially in religion." Considering the above definition of orthodox let's consider the following: 1)No group of Protestants or evangelicals agree to any "established doctrine" amongst themselves therefore thay cannot be orthodox.... 2)The Reformation is the result of protesting the only "established doctrine" of the Christian church( The Holy Roman Catholic Church) and its official councils . So yet again the historical record would suggest that proestantism is the opposite of orthodox which is "established". 3) It could be argued that Mormonism is orthodox in that it protests nothing yet restores everything. Restoration is orthodox! |
