41 | Why not ? | NT general Archive 1 | farout | 40501
Just a question for any of you who have not filled out a profile on yourself. Why not? It makes it nice to know a little about who we are responding to or asking a question of. Please consider it. Thanks, farout |

42 | Enjoy a beer | Bible general Archive 1 | farout | 40410
Does anyone believe the wine Jesus made at the wedding was not fermented? I doubt it was as strong as whats made today. The real issue is what ever I do does it hamper others growth. If I were so minded that a glass of wine in my home with my wife was something we did and kept it to ourselves, then it becomes between us and God. If I drink to get a buzz thats not good. A lot of personal responsibility is in your heart to God. If in doubt don't. There are several non fermented wines and beers out in the market you know.
43 | Nature teaches a man to have short hair? | Rom 14:1 | farout | 40406
Just my opinion, unless you look like a woman or a homosexual, I choose to know you by your love for Christ. For us antiques over 50, this was a messy subject in the sixties too. If your parents, or if you are married object to it then get clipped, other wise keep it clean and combed. Seems easy to me.
44 | need to know the order the bible was wri | OT general | farout | 40175
Brother Hank: I am honored to have you answer me. In Midwestern Baptist Thelogical Seminary I proudly took a D from a proffesor of Early Biblical Higher Criticism. Who is man to critique the very WORDS of GOD? How many students do you think graduate with such a "liberal" theology? This is an excellent place to dialogue with growing Christians, which I consider myself, and stimulate the mind into not soaking up the Power of Positive Thinking gospel of The Rev. Dr. R. S. and other off the wall false teachings.
45 | Jesus or Paul refering to virgin birth | NT general Archive 1 | farout | 40173
Does Jesus or Paul ever mention Christs virgin birth? I am not refering to Jesus' divinity, but specifically to Mary's conception of Jesus? So no one misunderstands me I do beleive in His virgin birth. I am not attacking Biblical intregrity. I just wonder if I have over looked this some place.
46 | need to know the order the bible was wri | OT general | farout | 40170
Hi Alice. What seems like an easy question is not. There are Bible scholars who have differing opinions on dating books and even the authors. Much of the diversity come in how one understands scripture. There is one of many Theories called the J E P D. This theory is one which some scholars believe more than one author wrote the book of Genesis. Still yet, there is the idea that three authors who wrote Isaiah. Daniel is a book that has some problems dating it. Some scholars say it was an date of early writing, and others say a much later date. So this makes it hard to have a universal set dating that most would agrre on. In my humble non argumentive position, I believe the Bible is God's onehundred percent inspired without error as originally written. I believe the Bible is infallible. I consider my view of scripture is not that of neo-orthodox. I believe Moses wrote Genesis. I believe Isaiah wrote the whole book. I am conservative, and take a high view litteralism. This is my idea; how a person believes the begining, is how you will understand the end of the Bible, and that determines how you believe the rest of the books in the Bible. I hope I have helped to explain how a complex a simple question can be. There are Bibles in Christian Book stores that have the bible assemblied in how that person thinks the order of the books were written. Again it is how they believe which reflects a conservative or liberal order that would be listed as author thinks. Perhaps the most important thing is for you to know you can trust every word in Holy Scripture. God Bless, farout |

47 | Why not use Yahweh for LORD? | Bible general Archive 1 | farout | 39980
Perhaps I am wrong but to me it seems you have a mistrust of bible scholars, preachers, and Ordained Ministers. I am ordained, and consider myself to have done some scholary work. I do not consider myself better or knowing the Bible better than anyone else. I am one who is growing in faith. I have a pretty complete supply of materials to look up answers. I some times ask questions to start a dialogue with others for mutual growth and edification. Should you not want to join such a dialogue, please consider if insulting and demeaning other christians, makes you come accross as impatient, and harsh. Which none of my questions are ever ment to be. Forgive me if I have not understood you correctly. Peace, farout |

48 | Why God told the Jews to Divorce. | Ezra 10:10 | farout | 39862
Please note they were divorced with a certificate. These wives were not "put away" or "sent away" so there was no legal way to retrieve their ex-wives, and it would have been a very serious sin to remarry someone you have divorced. The study already done on this is very well done what I add is so minor. Peace, farout |

49 | luke 18:22, | Luke 18:22 | farout | 39860
This man was unwilling to follow Jesus. Jesus asked this Rich ruler to surrender all rights to his possessions. This does not seem to be a universal requirement, but seems to be designed particularly for this man. This is a sumerization of THE EXPOSITORS BIBLE COMMENTARY by Zondervan Publishing House 1984 Volume 8 page 1004. put in my gereral words, I give credit where do. For me to follow Jesus means to surrender your entire life and give Him control over everything. What I think this man lacked was not that he did not sell his belongings, but he did not FOLLOW Jesus. Just how rich was this man? Are not some of us much richer then he was, in compairing what we have today? I stand convicted of being rich compaired to most of the world today. I am continue to follow Jesus and He is my Lord, Boss if you will, and I hope my desire to follow Him is what I do. Do I fail? Yes I do, and I confess my many sins. Jesus has not laid it on my heart to sell all I have. But I think and pray I would if He asked me to. Our salvation is based on faith, by following Jesus. To become Christ like takes a life time, not just a moment. Hope this helps Blessings, farout |

51 | Why not use Yahweh for LORD? | Bible general Archive 1 | farout | 39849
Is it possible this is selective translation. In the NT Baptize is transliterated from greek directly into english? There are some who think this was done so the type of baptism, sprinkled or dunked is not delt with in what some think it should be. The term "God" is use every where for a general use for a supreme being. "I am" or Eloi or Yahweh perhaps might be more specfic and meaningful?
52 | What is ok in a premarital relationship? | Bible general Archive 1 | farout | 39711
Maybe a better way to ask this is what is expected in a relationship before marriage. Purity, respect, protecting each others christian witness. You are asking about a relationship not engagement. In engagement there is even more responsibilities. Each step in the area of physical closness, the next step is easier, and many christians make some lifetime mistakes. It is true God forgives, but we still suffer the price for not following His word. WWJD is still the best.
53 | Is visiting a grave a right thing to do? | 2 Cor 3:17 | farout | 39708
A year after my mother passed on, I was able to visit her grave. She was not there, only what remained of her physical body. I am sure what remained in the casket would be unsightly. Her spirit is with the LORD. I have no need to go there again. My memories of her are with me, she is with Christ, where I too will be there someday. If you find you are really able to talk with Jesus there and have peace it is up to you. If however you feel you are able to communicate with her there I would not return. That is not of God.
54 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | Bible general Archive 1 | farout | 39706
Hebrews 9:27. I believe that as paul said to be absent from the body is to be in thepresents of the Lord. We are a spirit that resides in a body. This has been a question that I have struggled for more than ten years. and with prayer and much study I beleive at death we are instantly into the presents of Christ. My human sinful nature can not realy understand this, but the spiritual part of me knows. Hope this give you some food for thought.
55 | salvation loss | Heb 6:4 | farout | 39694
In Hebrews 6:4 no where does is say they were actual true Believers. They were not sealed by the Holy Spirit, 2Corinthians 2:21,22. Much like the rich young man who it was said, he was almost persuaded, but he did not follow Jesus. I have a saying that faith that faulters had a flaw from the first. John 10:28 is clear NO ONE can snatch them out of my hand." I beleive No One includes you, and me. Yes I do believe in eternal security of the believer. I admit this seems hard to believe. I am a sinner who because I am so undeserving of salvation, that to have Jesus' hand protecting my soul forever is beyond my understanding! What mercy, I can hardly comprehend. Thank You Lord Jesus!
56 | Why not use Yahweh for LORD? | Bible general Archive 1 | farout | 39687
I have read the begining notes in the NASB, NIV, and other translations. I still feel the answer is inadequate for me, I wonder why the NASB and others like NIV does not take a big step, in what seems to me, to be more accurate, and use YHWH for LORD. I think most congreations are now more used to hearing the word Yahweh than in the past. THE NEW JERUSALEN BIBLE, uses it as Yahweh. This is a Catholic translation, and I find is refreshing to see the LORD used as Yahweh. I do not agree with the total translation. I would like to see the LORD refered to as Yahweh. Maybe someone knows of a good translation that says Yahweh.

58 | Divorce or Putting Away ? | Matt 5:32 | farout | 39241
In Malachi 2:16 the word used there is PUTTING AWAY. Putting away was used to send a wife away with out a certificate. Later if her husband wanted her back he could legally take her and her children if she had remarried with out the certificate of divorce. Thus Malachi says God hates putting away. When Jesus said in Matthew 5:32 the word divorce, it is really translated putting away. At that time men could put away for almost any reason. Check it out carefully. Even the earliest KJV uses the words puts away. Dr. William Cobel at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Kansas City, Missouri, did extensive work on these passages. Dr. Coble is now retired but might still be reached there. This makes for eye opening study. I too belive marriage is to last a life time. However we live in a sinful wourld. Christians sin, and the mess it makes is almost beyond belief. Even King David found mercy and grace, and forgiveness. Uriah did eventually face David in paradise. What do you think happened? 59 | Stay marriaed at all costs? | 1 Cor 7:15 | farout | 39234
I do not believe a true Christian will beat his wife as you describe. There are many unknowns in your situation. NO ONE HAS TO PUT UP WITH VIOLENT BEHAVIOR ! Call the police have him arrested! Press charges against him! You are permitting him to continue this to you is making him worse. Unless he is held accountable he will only get worse. Did not Jesus stop the stoning of the woman caught in adultry? Would not Jesus stop this abuse if He were there? I think so.
60 | How is it contrary to God's nature? | 1 Cor 7:15 | farout | 39228
I just want to address suffering. In Romans 8:17 the idea of suffering and sharing whith Christ' glory is an area of scripture you might like to study. I have found that verse and Romans 8:29 helpfull in undrestanding my suffering better. C. S. Lewis wrote a lot about suffering. I believe Lewis said something like suffering is Gods way of getting the our attention. As for your abusive spouse what makes you believe he is a born again Christian? What kind of abuse are you talking about? There are laws, and police, that are there to protect you. There are womens safe houses if you are in danger. You should make your pastor aware of this and see what wisdom he has. Nothing is Impossible with God! We are praying for you. |
