41 | Holy Living | 1 Thess 4:7 | eklektos | 174122
Hi Kalos, I must have missed something in a post or somewhere but I couldn't find where I ever denied the Scriptures. Permit me to re-read them. And I do understand the statement from your link. Assuredly, if we were to allow anything supernatural into the church who knows what would happen. 1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. 1Th 5:20 Despise not prophesyings. Psa 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Your brother, eklektos |

42 | Holy Living | 1 Thess 4:7 | eklektos | 174116
Hello Hank, Thank you. My rebuttal came when someone posted the following: "Christian growth in our lives is not achieved by ecstatic moments at the altar. That is not the way God works in the life of the believer. --John MacArthur" Then I was told ecstatic experiences were not Scriptural. Act 10:10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, Act 11:5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me: And this: Act 22:17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; could be summarized as an ecstatic moment at the alter - reproving the words of John MacArthur. eklektos |

43 | The letter of the law. | Gal 3:21 | eklektos | 174113
Hi Searcher, In John Chapter 5, we find an impotent man by the pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem (v2 and 5). Jesus heals the man and tells him to walk (v8,9). The Jews see the healed man carrying his bed and they finally find out that it was Jesus that told the man to rise, walk, and carry his bed. In addition, all this is happening on the Sabbath. The Jews confront Jesus but Jesus tells them, "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working." (v17). Jesus tells the Jews of the Greatness of God and how He, the Son of God must do the work of the Father and that in Him was life; "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life."(v24). Now we get to the significant part: (verses 36-40) Joh 5:36 "But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish--the very works that I do--testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me. Joh 5:37 "And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form. Joh 5:38 "You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent. [[Joh 5:39 "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;]] Joh 5:40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. The Jews were very passionate in reading and searching the Scriptures (v39 bracketed above) but with all their knowledge and with all their writings they still didn't know who Jesus was even though the Scriptures declare Him thoroughly and through the Scriptures God has testified of Him.(v37). The point here is that without discernment by the Holy Spirit a person can read and study until they are 'blue in the face' and never really come to know Christ. The letter of the law kills - the written words on a paper or in a book have no life to them unless the Spirit opens ones understanding. Jesus also demands this same principal from Nicodemus, "Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things?" John 3:10. And in another place we read: 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: [neither can he know them,] because they are spiritually discerned. (brackets are mine) 1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 1Co 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Again the letter is dead without the Spirit. eklektos |

Dearest Doctrinograce, Thank you very much for speaking for the entire forum. I am sure that all the participants have the same mind since you said so. Christ had the same problem with the Pharisees. I still love you and pray that you will see. All that has and ear, there is no malice here. eklektos |

47 | Holy Living | 1 Thess 4:7 | eklektos | 174091
Dearest Doctrinograce, Well understood. Even the prophesy of Joel also is understood, dream dreams, having visions, is this not sober mindedness or is it madness? Does one see these dreams or visions in public or in private? Tell me tearcher! What are the dreams about? What are the visions about? Tell me if you have wisdom! We are NOT dependent on experiences. You KNOW that and I know that! Experiences happen and you KNOW that. Have you not had an experience, a private time with our Lord, when you where ecstatic, in prayer, when you could not speak, but all you could do was weep, weep for the future or because of your past or of one that is deep in need? In all your experiences with our Lord, tell me you have never come to the point in all your prayer life, with all your Scriptural knowledge, where you were completely void of self-expression. Tell me teacher; how does the Lord work in MY life? Do you READ only Scripture? Are you talking with God as Adam did in the cool of the garden? Their dialog was not recorded, is it un-Scriptural? Christianity is not a textbook but a Personal relationship, personal, personal relationship, a time for talking and a time for listening. What do you think you will hear … something un-Scriptural? NOT! (Mat 6:6) But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Then, after our communion, we share it, if so ordered, that which the Lord has revealed to us. Not all things that Jesus did are expressed in the Scriptures: (Joh 21:25) Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. In addition, not all things the Lord God of Heaven does are in the Scriptures. One can miss heaven by 18 inches. Lovingly, Still Your Brother, eklektos |

48 | What is the Theme of Genesis 44 | Gen 44:1 | eklektos | 174086
Dear Jclora, Welcome to the forum. The following is the introduction to Genesis 44 from: John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible "This chapter relates the policy of Joseph in making an experiment of his brethren's regard and affection for Benjamin; he ordered his steward to put every man's money into his sack, and his silver cup in Benjamin's, and when they were got out of the city, to follow after them, and charge them with the theft, as he did; and having searched their sacks, as they desired he would, found the cup with Benjamin, which threw them into the utmost distress, and obliged them to return to Joseph, Gen 44:1; who charged them with their ill behaviour towards him; they acknowledge it, and propose to be his servants; but he orders them to depart to their father, retaining Benjamin in servitude, Gen 44:15; upon which Judah addressed him in a very polite and affectionate manner, and relates the whole story, both of what passed between Joseph and them, concerning Benjamin, the first time they were in Egypt, and between their father and them upon the same subject, when he directed them to go a second time thither to buy corn, and how he became a surety to his father for him, and therefore proposed to be his bondman now, not being able to see his father's face without Benjamin, Gen 44:18." Sometimes it is easier to use the words of others instead of re-inventing the wheel! (Understand?) We are all here to help, each in the maturity in the Word, as the Lord has enriched. eklektos |

49 | Holy Living | 1 Thess 4:7 | eklektos | 174084
Dearest Kalos and Doctrinograce, With all due respect, the next question to John MacArthur would be, "Tell me exactly how God works!" How does he know what one experiences in the privacy of ones closet? Ask David what he learned by his estatic times with God. May it be that Mr. MacAuthor has very had a personal experience with the Lord? I am not his judge, but NO one can say how God works. This is very well evident thoughout the dialogs in Job. "Who has been His counselor?" Hold me, I love you, eklektos |

50 | Laying the Fountain for Understanding! | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174079
Dear Lady Grace7044, First, I must tell you, I have re-read your posts from the past and I want to tell you that you are lifted by your grace and innocence. Our Lord is pleased with a contrite heart and a willingness to be all you can be for Him and in Him. I have read all your past questions and most of your answers and notes. You have thrilled my heart. God's blessing is on you. Before answering your question that you have now posted, I would ask two things, and that would be, What age group are you teaching in Sunday school? The other question I would have is, How where you called to be a Sunday school teacher? It is also my distinct desire to know from what country you are? Are you from Eastern Europe or Western Russia? In addition, can you read a foreign language? I only ask this, not to belittle, but that there are Bibles written in most languages around the world that may give you more light to the Scriptures than English. Truly and most seriously Dear Lady and Sister, there is nothing in my heart but the best for you and your understanding of our Father's Word. (Psa 139:23) Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! Continually your servant, eklektos |

51 | The Transfiguration of Christ | Matt 17:2 | eklektos | 174073
Hi Pat, When we read about this event in Luke 9:28-36, for Luke expands on the event and tells us that the three disciples were asleep, being tired. Then Luke states, "when they were awake, they saw" (v32). There is no induendo that this was a vision or a dream but an actual event. Just as angels have appeared to man on occasion: (Heb 13:2) "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." This was an actual, wide-awake, with the physical eyes event and not a vision. Peace to our house, eklektos |

52 | David's conspiracy on Uriah | 2 Sam 11:15 | eklektos | 174035
Joab thought that David would be upset at him because he had ordered his men too close to the wall (2 Sam 11:20) of the city they were in battle with and that is why many were killed which would show poor military strategy. David recites the experience (2Sam 11:21) they had at Thebez when his army got too close to the wall there and the death of Abimelech when he was cast down by a stone. We don't know if Joab was privy to David's affair but Joab must have known that something was up between David and Uriah for the king would not have requested Joab to place Uriah in the heaviest arena of battle and "retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die." (2Sam 11:15), i.e. let Uriah fend for himself. Joab knew that David would be pleased to hear that Uriah was killed because David wanted Uriah dead. So, to David that would be good news, for Bathsheba was pregnant by David and they would have to be put to death (Lev 20:10) for their adultery if the news got out while Uriah was still alive. So, Joab told his messenger to tell David the worst news about the war first, then the news about Uriah's death and that would appease David's anger toward Joab for his miscalculations and bad military strategies by getting too close to the wall and loosing many men. Joab's scheme to appease David's heart worked because David just brushed off the death of the many men by saying 'Oh well, things happen in war' thus showing the darkness of David's heart at that time when lust was his god. This is a rough paraphrase of the situation but I hope it helps. eklektos |

54 | Where do I find the Bible Almanac | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174008
Greetings MM, If you are referring to the book that contains peoples, places and events of the Bible, you should be able to get one or order one through any Christian book store or large book store, like Barnes and Noble or Waldens. Check your local library for a copy, they may have different versions that you could preview and then make your choice as what to order for your personal library. Perhaps your pastor could lead you into the right direction. According to the Internet, the book is available at Amazon.com. Because of the limitations of this forum’s ability to use certain characters of Internet addresses, just go to the book section of Amazon.com and do a Search for the title, "Bible Almanac". The book is also printed in a 'Kids' version. Also available is the Thompson Chain Reference Bible that has a vast amount of these topics printed toward the rear. eklektos |

55 | What does Fight the good Fight mean? | 1 Tim 6:12 | eklektos | 174007
Greetings shamrock, Welcome to the forum! 1 Tim 6:12 would be "Stand strong and endure in our Faith" Chapter 6 starts with instructions to servants and then moves along to verse 11 where Paul addresses Timothy directly, "O man of God". Paul exhorts Timothy to "flee these things", the things Paul just referred to in the preceding verses; "pride, envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings". Fight the good fight of faith, persevere in righteousness because daily we are to take up our cross. Lay aside those things that can lead a person to destruction. Hold on to these things, righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness (v11), for they are profitable toward eternal life. Paul tells him to be strong in his calling in which many were witnesses to (Acts 16). Keep the faith. Flee from evil. Despise nothing but unrighteousness. The International Standard Version and the Contemporary English Version of the Scriptures uses, "fight for the faith", but this could have the wrong connotation to the meaning, "fight of faith" used in NASB, KJV, ASV. Hope I have served in some way. eklektos |

Doctrinograce, Not true. When comparing the moral state of man there are only two, sinless and sinful. Can you give me an example of each of the fourfold states of man with Scripture since you brought it up? (1) The State of Innocency (Pre-Fall) - sinless (2) The State of Bondage (Post-Fall) - sinful (3) The State of Grace (Regenerate Man) - sinless (4) The State of Glory (In the Presence of God) - sinless And, no we can't change the subject. The Scriptures are worthy for instruction. eklektos |

Mark, Yes, that also. Actually, the quote is to express that, Pink, who is quoted here often, has some problems in his theology. Also, Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. eklektos |
