If I may, Pagans were accustomed to making small incisions in their physical bodies, or putting marks upon their flesh as a sign of mourning for their loved ones who had recently died. But the Lord forbade anything of the nature among His people. The incision represented a separation and, in fact, an eternal seperation, in the minds of the pagans. In essence, by the Lord commanding His people to not engage in such activities, He, in effect, was telling them that death, that is if they would faithfully serve Him, did not end it all. In other words, if their loved ones had been in the Covenant, and had Faith in the Covenant, and the ones living continued to have Faith in the Covenant, they would see each other again. To each his own of course, but I prefer not to choose the ways of the Pagans. May God Bless You, John |

The term. 'Jew' or 'Jewish', was tagged to those that were from the tribe of Judah, Correct? I only find the term "Jewish found once in the Bible; (Titus 1:14). Were the Galileans, from the Tribe of Judah? Just a curious question. The term 'Jew' was applied to a member of the kingdom of Judah after the separation of the ten tribes, Is this correct? John |

I'm 'THE PEOPLE' which entered the Wednesday note. I have considered, ('when the women went to anoint Jesus on the first day of the week,'); which would have been Sunday, Correct? Have you considered Matt. 12:40. If it would have been Thursday at 3:00 p.m., ('The Cruxifixion'); then that would have only been, two days, that Jesus was in his tomb. Matthew 12:40; "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth." This is my reason for the entry of Wednesday being the day of The Cruxifixion. Our 3:00 p.m. would only be three hours before the start of the Jewish Thursday at 6:00 p. m.. I believe I'm correct in saying their days start at 6:00 p.m. our time, Correct? If I am misunderstanding what time of the day their day starts, please provide the correct information, so I may recalculate my entry of Wednesday being the day of Cruxifixion of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. May God Bless You, John Ryals |

46 | Actual process? | Romans | John Ryals | 228176
Hi Sankalpa, Praise the Lord! I've been following your discussion thread and based on your question, I too don,t like he word 'ritual'. If we use the scripture's in 1st Peter, Chapter 5:1-4; this may give some light to your question. It is my believe, that I must lead by example and the Holy Spirit does the rest. As verse 2 states in 1st Peter, Chapter 5, "Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constaint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind," Verse 3, "Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock." I think being a proper example is being a 'True Shepherd'. As for the Baptism, there are three types, the Baptism into Christ, Water Baptism, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Not quite understanding your question as to 'actual process', but if you will reword the question so my simple mind can understand, I would appreciate the discussion fellowship with you. May God Bless You! You stated that you knew how to convert someone to Islam. This means you are well versed in the ways of Islam, Correct? My question, When did you convert to Christianity? 47 | What do Matthew 20:1-16 mean? | Matt 20:16 | John Ryals | 228163
Hello Dr. Hawk, The Lord is teaching Grace here, which means that we do not obtain Salvation from Him by merit, but as well, it speaks of Israel and the Church; the Church although last, will receive just as much as Israel, who was first. No man has the right to make a claim on God because of merit. It must all be by Faith in Christ and the Cross, [Rom. 3:20-31]. The Church was chosen last, but will be first, because Israel which was chosen first, rejected the Lord. May God Bless You, John Ryals |

48 | Exactly what does Mark 15:42 mean | Mark 15:42 | John Ryals | 228147
Hello, It is my understanding, that it was approximately 3 p. m.----the evening would be at about 6 p.m. so they had about three hours to work, because("it was the preparation")meaning to prepare for the passover which would begin at 6 p.m. that evening. The High Sabbath of the Passover Feast, which was Thursday, and not the ordinary weekly Sabbath, which was Saturday [Lev. 23:6-7]; Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday, and not on Friday, as many think, spending three full days and nights in the Tomb, and rose on the first day of the week, even as He had said He would do, [Matt. 12:40]. "LYDIA,THE FIRST EUROPEON CONVERT' "And a certain woman name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us : whose hearts the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul." [Acts 16:14] God has made great use of women, and greatly honored them in the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Holy women ministered to our Lord when he was upon the earth, and since that time much sacred work has been done by their patient hands. Man and woman fell together; together they must rise. After the resurrection, it was a woman who was first commissioned to carry the glad tidings of the risen Christ; and in Europe, where woman was in future days to be set free from many of the trammels of the East, it seems fitting that a woman should be the first believer. Not only, however, was Lydia a sort of first-fruit for Europe, but probably also became a witness in her own city of Thyatira, in Asia. We do not know how the gospel was introduced into that city; but we are informed of the existence of a church there by the message of the ascended Christ, through his servant John, to "the angel of the church in Thyatira." Very likely Lydia became the herald of the gospel in her native place. Let the women who know the truth proclaim it; for why should their influence be lost? "The Lord giveth the word; the women that publish the tidigs are a great host." Women can be as powerful for the evil as for good: we see it in this very church of Thyatira, where the woman Jezebel, who called herself a prophetess, sought to seduce many from the truth. Seeing, then, that the devil employs women in his service, let those women whom God has called by his grace be doubly earnest in seeking to prevent or undo the mischief that others are working. If not called to public service, all have the home-sphere wherein they can shed forth the aroma of a godly life and testimony. May God Bless You, John Ryals |

56 | Women pastors... | 1 Timothy | John Ryals | 228122
Good Morning, I may have some scriptures and some historical comments and views that may increase our visions in this thread. First, I believe Paul was setting some guidelines for the Church of Ephesus through Timothy. These letters were to Timothy, because he had been placed into an elderly position with this Church. If I may, I would like to expound on the verses 2:9-15, which the great Apostle Paul wrote, constituted by our Lord Jesus Christ about 'Women's Guidelines' within the Church. I believe I am correct in saying that verse 11 says, "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection." As I look at the condition of the Church today, I ask myself, "Are there qualified men of God who can take the position of Teacher?" Of course there are, but I believe, if there were not any, then I would appreciate a woman standing up and leading the Gospel, so lost souls may come to understand what sin is about, bringing about Holy Spirit conviction, which would cause lost souls to want to repent and turn from wicked ways. After all, Is this not what preaching the Gospel is About? Leading others to the Cross? I know verse 12 states, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." I have to believe when Paul was writing this letter to Timothy, he was adressing this issue because there were some discrepencies going on in the Church at Ephesus. Again, let me say that verse 12 does deal with a woman's mannerism in the Church, but this is a letter to Timothy about the Church at Ephesus. Again, if a male teacher is more qualified, he should take the lead: otherwise the woman can do so. Her 'silence,' regarding teachings; unless there is no qualified man, which is the case at times, and this is out of the guidlines the Holy Spirit has set. It's time for men of God to stand up and be teachers of the Gospel and quit being cowards! In the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, verse 28; "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions." The spirit shall be poured out upon some of each sex. Not your sons only, but your daughters, shall prophesy; we read of four sisters in one family that were prophetesses, Acts 21:9. Not the parents only, but the children, shall be filled with the Spirit, which intimates the continuance of this gift for some ages successively in the church. In the 2nd Chapter of Acts, on 'The Day of Penecost' and when it was fully come, Peter spoke of this prophesy by the Prophet Joel, [Acts 2:16-17.] Our God is soveriegn! He can do anything he must do in order to fulfill His prophecies, and to accomplish what He started. We must think, If he can make a Donkey speak, could he not make a woman a preacher or a teacher or a Pastor? May God Bless You, John Ryals |

57 | what are the letters to st paul about ? | Phil 2:22 | John Ryals | 228113
Hello Sadie Louise, My name is John Ryals, and it is a pleasure to be a part of this Bible Study Forum. I enjoy asking questions and giving answers about the 'Holy Bible. Before answering any questions, I always try to research the question, and pray before answering. My point is, I would like to give an answer to your question, but I'm not sure if I understand your question. Are you asking about letters written 'to' Paul, or are you asking about the letters,(epistles)which are written by the Apostle Paul which are accepted into the Holy Bible? |

58 | Is eating pork allowed for Christians? | Matt 15:17 | John Ryals | 228109
These two scriptures, [Matt. 15:17-18] should shed light on your question. To give the 'entire reference' which deals with 'the things that defile' look at Matthew 15:10-20. Based on these two scriptures I support my answer with, I would have to say, "Yes," it is allowed. Now, dealing with our health issue, my answer would have to be, to be mindful of portion sizes. On a personal note, I don't feel the eating of food has anything to do with the spiritual side of man. God Bless, John Ryals |

59 | having sex if engaged biblical stance? | 1 Cor 6:16 | John Ryals | 228076
Your reference scripture,[1st Cor. 10:8] I believe was a warning against immorality. Not just to apply this verse only, to premarital sex; but to apply it against all immoralities. To me the context was verses 1-11 as Paul was speaking to Israel, and my cross reference is [Numbers 25:1-9]. A comment about pre-marital sex: We give our carnal desires head lead by our indulgences, and therefore I feel we should observe and check them when they first rise up: because once they prevail from opportunities we open ourselves to, they begin to sway us, and we know not whither they will carry us. Galatians 5:9; "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump." As I give thought to this scripture, I must examine myself and reveal anything, which could taint the 'whole lump' of Chistianity by one of my erroneous principles, or; I could infect the 'Christian Society' by these principles. I should give great concern as to the Life style of Christ and be mindful not to yeild to one single instance, and if I do, I should endeavor by all proper methods to purge out the infection, by repenting and not doing them again. By properly repenting and putting my faith in the Cross of Christ It will give the Holy Spirit the latitude to do his work and guide me in the correct principles. May the Holy Spirit lead, and guide you in all the principles of your relationship. May God Bless You! John Ryals |

60 | Matthew 28:18-19 | Matt 28:18 | John Ryals | 228060
Hello Begbie, This is my explanation, and I would advise you to search for others, and be open to others, with the Holy Spirit guiding you: When Jesus spoke unto them saying, "All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in Earth," this is not given to Him as Son of God; for, as God nothing can be added to Him or taken from Him; it is rather a power, which He has merited by His Incarnation and His death at Calvary on the Cross [Phil. 2:8-10]; this authority extends not only over men, so that He governs and protects the Church, disposes human events, controls hearts and opinions; but the forces of Heaven also are at His Command; the Holy Spirit is bestowed by Him, and the Angels are in His employ as ministering to the members of His Body. When He said, "all power," He meant, "all power!" In verse 19 when He says,"Go ye therefore," this applies to any and all who follow Christ, and in all ages. Go and preach to all nations proclaiming the truth. We should go forth and give instruction of the whole Gospel for the whole man; Not as a suggestion but to do so because He said in verse 20,"I have commanded you.' In verse 20 also He said, "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen," hence, forever present among us and with us as Companion, Friend, Guide, Saviour, and God; until the end of age because it is the guarantee of His Promise. Amen. I pray this makes sense and it increases the vision of your heart. May God Bless You! John Ryals |
