secret25, "Yes I do". They are declarations of truth, in a concise way, things we can learn, saying to ourselves frequently, thereby building our faith. Romans 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. In Him Imm |

43 | How Far Are We To Suffer For Christ? | 1 Pet 4:16 | Immanuelsown | 206851
bowler, It appears, the suffering, you are referring to, is only because we are Christians, either suffering because of our belief in Christ, or taking the wrong, by turning the other cheek, and suffering a wrong done to us. Christians in either of these circumstances, should understand the situation, accepting it.(Happy they are). People that would see, a possible dramatic change in their lifestyle, before becoming a Christian, would I'm sure feel a sense of remorse, or loss. They would not understand until later, what the Lord had done for them, then they would feel differently, about the loss they might have suffered. But that would not qualify as suffering for Christ. 1 Peter 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 1 Peter 2:19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 1 Peter 3:14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: In Him Imm |

44 | Fruitless Scripture Discussion? | 1 Tim 1:6 | Immanuelsown | 206785
bowler, In the full context of what Paul was saying, there were reasons for his admonition to Timothy, in direct relation to what Paul said not to talk about, or the people not to talk to. Because they gender strife's, both topics, and people. As far as us, (believers) having a discussion, there shouldn't be any topics we could not talk about. Whenever we are engaged in a conversation, we know when it heads into the direction of controversy. In the case of the Forum, there isn't anything inherently wrong with any topic to be discussed, the problem arises because it is an (Open Forum), and there are some brothers that don't have the knowledge, understanding, thereby possibly causing them difficulties in there own walk Romans 15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 1 Timothy 1 3) As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia,( that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.) 4) Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. 6) From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 7) Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. 46 | Jesus weeping over Lazarus | John 11:35 | Immanuelsown | 206685
Minister Bethune, John 11 1) Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2) It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother ((Lazarus was sick.)) 3) Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, ((he whom thou lovest is sick.)) 4) When Jesus heard that, he said, ((This sickness is not unto death,)) ((but for the glory of God)), ((that the Son of God might be glorified thereby)). 5) Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. 6) ((When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was)). 7) Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. 8) His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again? 9) Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. 10) But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. 11) These things said he: and after that he saith unto them,((Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep)). 12) Then said his disciples, ((Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well)). 13) ((Howbeit Jesus spake of his death)): but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. 14) Then said Jesus unto them plainly, ((Lazarus is dead)). 15) ((And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there)), ((to the intent ye may believe)); ((nevertheless let us go unto him)). 21) Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, ((my brother had not died)). 22) But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. 23) Jesus saith unto her, ((Thy brother shall rise again)). 24) Martha saith unto him, ((((I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day)))). 25) Jesus said unto her, ((((I am the resurrection, and the life)))): ((((he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live)))): 26) ((((And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this))))? 27) ((((She saith unto him, Yea, Lord)): ((I believe that thou art the Christ)), the Son of God, which should come into the world. 32) Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, ((((if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died)))). 33) ((((When Jesus therefore saw her weeping)))), ((((and the Jews also weeping which came with her)))), ((((he groaned in the spirit)))), ((((and was troubled)))). 34) And said, ((Where have ye laid him))? ((((They said unto him, Lord, come and see)))). 35) ((((Jesus wept)))). (BECAUSE of their UNBELIEF), (MARTHA, and MARY'S LACK of FAITH) 36) Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! 37) ((((And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died))))? 38) ((((Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave)))). It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. 39) Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, ((((Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days)))). 40) Jesus saith unto her, ((((Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe)))), ((((thou shouldest see the glory of God))))? 41) Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, ((((Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me)))). 42) ((((And I knew that thou hearest me always)))): ((((but because of the people which stand by I said it)))), ((((that they may believe that thou hast sent me)))). 43) And when he thus had spoken, (((he cried with a loud voice))), (((Lazarus, come forth)))! v.4) Right from the beginning, Jesus said it is not unto death, but for the Glory of God. v.6) Upon hearing Lazarus was sick, he then stayed 2 more days where he was. v.7-15) Jesus is clearly having a hard time with the understanding, and the faith of the disciples. v.21-27) The conversation Martha has with Jesus, he hears her saying, he's dead, your the Christ, I have NO faith. v.32-40) Having essentially the same conversation with Mary, Jesus is so disturbed by there lack of Faith he is groaning within himself. I can feel what Jesus was feeling as a man, the utter frustration, having walked among them for 3 1/2yrs. they didn't know him yet! He was weeping for them, as he wept over Jerusalem, "How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks, but you would not". At this time , Jesus was coming close to his Passion, and the people that he had been the closest to for almost all of his Ministry, even his own disciples (Still did not get it) yes he wept. skccab I feel that it is saying, don't be high minded, or boastful towards the Jews, thinking that we are something special, or better than they, (we are still the wild branches). They WILL be grafted back in, because of their Jealousy of our relationship with GOD. 17) And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18) Boast not against the branches. 48 | will most people go to hell? | Matt 7:14 | Immanuelsown | 206570
bowler, On the one hand God says I don't want any to perish, that he wants all to be saved. (2 Peter 3:9) (1 Tim. 2:4) But you say destruction, is the course for the majority, with God being sovereign, choosing whom He will let His Grace shine on. It then appears God is in conflict with Himself, or is He just over populating Hell for the fun of it ? As for (Matthew 7:13-14) Those two verses sound like, everyone spoken of, are making the choice for themselves.(Narrow?) (Wide?) In Him Imm |

49 | Forms of address to God in prayer. | Matt 6:7 | Immanuelsown | 206483
reformeddave, Starting off with, you say "I have been accustomed to addressing God using THEE / THOU as opposed to YOU / YOUR." Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. What I'm saying is, don't worry what others say, about the way you pray, that's between you, and GOD. "However, as the common usage appears to be towards the more contemporary forms of address" Other peoples motives might be different than yours. Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward It sounds to me, like you feel closer to God, when you pray the way you always have. NOW I am finding this to be an issue within my own prayer life. Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: If you are told, to not let any man judge you, in these things, then don't let them judge you, in the way you talk to your own FATHER! It appears to me, that you have just had a little encounter with the enemy, trying to disrupt a well grounded prayer life. Go back to what you feel comfortable with, and don't let it bother your relationship any longer. In Him Imm |

53 | Christians Apostate Same As Anit-Christ? | 1 Tim 4:1 | Immanuelsown | 206436
bowler, I think the answer lies in (2Pet.2) whole chapter. and Luke (11:24-26) Apostasy: is the formal abandonment or renunciation of one's religion, especially if the motive is deemed unworthy. In a technical sense, as used sometimes by sociologists without the pejorative connotations of the word, the term refers to renunciation and criticism of, or opposition to one's former religion. One who commits apostasy is an apostate, or one who apostatises. The word derives from Greek, meaning a defection or revolt, from "away, apart", stasis, "standing". Apostasy: is generally not a self definition: very few former believers call themselves apostates and they generally consider this term to be a pejorative. Many religious movements consider it a vice (sin), a corruption of the virtueof piety in the sense that when piety fails, apostasy is the result. Many religious groups and even some states punish apostates. Apostates may be shunned by the members of their former religious group or worse. This may be the official policy of the religious group or may happen spontaneously, due in some sense to psycho-social factors as well. (Wikipedia) In Him Imm |

55 | Why is the Christian Church so divided? | Bible general Archive 4 | Immanuelsown | 206385
Unless two are agreed, how can they walk together? Seems like the only place where that statement is true, is in the church. People disagree every day, and still walk together, for money! bowler, I know you must have by now looked at these, but if you haven't #19286-7 gives a good account of Dan. My own thoughts are, going along with what this other post says, Dan disappeared. Manasses is apparently counted for Dan. Revelation 7:4-8 144,000 12 tribes of Israel 4) And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. 5) Of the tribe of (JUDA) were sealed twelve thousand. 58 | Exasperate - examples? | Col 3:21 | Immanuelsown | 206315
stjohn, op's sorry, I didn't look at the date, only the post, Exasperate - examples? getsmart The answers given, sounded like they were trying to figure out wether or not, the assigning of rules for there kids, would in some way frustrate them, and that someday the kids would know they had acted foolishly. These are their answers given, in order 1) dmspen "Clearly we cannot, as parents, not set limits or rules. I believe the context here is that we shouldn't set rules that we, as our children's role models, don't follow" 2) cjjeep "sometimes in spite of everything you've done, your children can continue in rebellion nevertheless" "they'll come back and admit to you that they had acted foolishly in their youth" 3) biblesawyer "When my kids do something wrong like they fight sometimes, and don't listen about picking up there mess of toys,.I make them aware of the consequences to there choices" The word Provoke, gives a meaning, that it seemed was missing, in the answers given to getsmart. If you had a Tiger in a cage, and you poked him repeatedly with a stick, do you think, you would get a reaction? Would you be expecting to see, the Tiger roll on it's back and puuur, like a kitten? Provoke in this instance means to Premeditate the outcome of your actions, towards your child, to bring about ANGER. Discouraged, because you are in authority over them, and you are abusing that power, (frustrated) would work in this place as well. Because the child is not aloud to retaliate. From the following definitions, I didn't see where the answers applied, to the verse in questin. As I saw it. Makes me think, of the line in the Lords Prayer, where WE as the CHILD pray, "Lead us not into Temptation" Isn't that what the Forum is for? To clarify scripture, to come to the full understanding of a verse, to me the (KJV) gave a different approach, that's all. Just a question for clarification, this isn't a (NASB, Amplified) Forum only is it? The Free Dictionary Google provoke Verb [-voking, -voked] 1. to deliberately act in a way intended to anger someone: 2. to incite or stimulate: 3. to cause a person to react in a particular, often angry, way: 4. to bring about: [Latin provocare to call forth] pro·voke (pr-vk) tr.v. pro·voked, pro·vok·ing, pro·vokes 1. To incite to anger or resentment. 2. To stir to action or feeling. 3. To give rise to; evoke: 4. To bring about deliberately; induce: Synonyms: provoke, incite, excite, stimulate, arouse, rouse, stir1 These verbs mean to move a person to action or feeling or to summon something into being by so moving a person. Provoke often merely states the consequences produced: The reason I made the distinction between the different translations was, I always read the verse posted at the top of the question asked, in the KJV also I'm sorry, but to me the word exasperate, doesn't carry the same weight that provoke does, to me it sounds like it is something that happens to make the situation worse than it was, where provoke, caused the situation in the first place ex·as·per·ate (g-zsp-rt) tr.v. ex·as·per·at·ed, ex·as·per·at·ing, ex·as·per·ates 1. To make very angry or impatient; annoy greatly. 2. To increase the gravity or intensity of: synonyms aggravate, exacerbate anger - infuriate, incense worsen Hoping this will answer your question, tried to make it short as I could. It all comes down to a different interpretation of the verse. Yes the word provoke was in the Amplified, but with all of the other words there also, it still didn't sound as clear as it does to me in the (KJV). Sorry, but thats my opinion. Colossians 3:21 (NASB) 21) Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart. AMPLIFIED 21) Fathers, do not provoke or irritate or fret your children [do not be hard on them or harass them], lest they become discouraged and sullen and morose and feel inferior and frustrated. [Do not break their spirit.] (KJV) 21) Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. In Him Imm |
