41 | Overseer Officiating Options | Philem 1:9 | Country Girl | 132673
I can only respond with more scripture. 1 Pet 2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 1 Pet 2:14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. 1 Pet 2:15 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. 1 Pet 2:16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. 1 Pet 2:17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. and 1 Pet 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 1 Pet 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 1 Pet 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

42 | why was the thief saved without baptism? | Luke 23:43 | Country Girl | 132672
One more little tidbit that a lot of people don't seem to notice about this controversy of the Holy Spirit descending on Cornelius and his family is this. We should remember that when the HS fell on the Apostles "with cloven tongues of fire," they too HAD NOT been baptized either. As a matter of fact, it's NOT absolutely clear in scripture that ALL of the Apostles were indeed baptized but I have to believe they were. How could they preach this new Gift of Salvation based on obedience to God if they all had not obeyed God's Terms and Conditions themselves? We do know for a fact that Apostle Paul was baptized to receive salvation so that's good enough for me. Just my two cents' worth. You'll probably want some change back...;-) Blessings to you. 43 | Just the name? | Phil 2:9 | Country Girl | 132669
It seems to me that the missing ingredient in this picture is the idea of "follow through." When a person really does completely believe in someone or something, they respond in complete obedience to the commands or whatever statements come out of that person or being. I think Naaman's story is quite instructive here. He was looking for a demonstration of majestic and awesome power and instead, Elisha told him through a messenger to dip himself in a dirty ole river not once but seven times. He went home disgusted but with no healing. But finally upon obedience and dipping himself in the River Jordan as instructed, he was healed completely; his skin was a clean and look like that of a baby. Notice he didn't get the healing he was looking for; not one iota until the seventh dip. Here on earth, when a child truly believes his earthly parents, he/she puts ALL his faith and trust in that parent. No wonder why our Lord used children as an example to us. We simply MUST follow through with our belief and simply obey God's commands if we truly want what He's offering us as His children. I hope this helps and Blessings to you. Country Girl |

46 | baptism regenerate? | Titus 3:5 | Country Girl | 132340
I agree with you, it's always best to gather from the verse under discussion what is the immediate context so for that purpose, I quote: Matt 19:23 And Jesus said to His disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Matt 19:24 "Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matt 19:25 When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, "Then who can be saved?" Matt 19:26 And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matt 19:27 Then Peter said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?" Matt 19:28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matt 19:29 "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name's sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. Matt 19:30 "But many who are first will be last; and the last, first." So we see that Christ made this statement immediately after his encounter with the rich young ruler who refused to give up his possessions, take up his cross and follow Jesus. So once again, this regeneration is a transition process. God and His Son want to see us, all of us graduate from this physical world to a spiritual world, come and join Him in Heaven but as I've mentioned before, we MUST allow God to choose the timing. Again, I don't see anything truly different in this scenario. Basically it boils down to us in our present condition without God, after we reach the age of accountability and before we become a christian...we've got no hope. Then we establish a relationship with Him as our Father through His Son and ONLY through Him. Everything else is on God's part to get us there in Heaven through our belief and faith in His Grace and Forgiveness. All we got to do is obey His commands which include "being faithful till death" per Rev 2:10 and being fruitful in our works of faith as per James 2. How could it be any clearer? Now, I must admit we CANNOT boast or think we can earn our way to Heaven. That too is very clear from the scriptures but we do have a job to do: be a vessel for God showing His Light throughout our lives so that others will be influenced to also establish a similar relationship to God. Now, can we agree on all the above? I hope so. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

47 | baptism regenerate? | Titus 3:5 | Country Girl | 132280
Since there's only two scriptures where this word is used, there's not a whole lot of guidance as to what exactly is meant by its use. Matt 19:28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, Since, it's clear that we have to "use the Bible as Its best own Commentary," I see nothing wrong with the use of "transforming" as cited in Romans or "refining" as cited in Revelation. It does seem pretty clear from all the Bible that God does want us, His creation to come back to Him in Heaven but sin and our human, fleshly bodies prevent us from being able to do that. Now since, the devil is a spirit and believes in God, it's also clear we must do more than simply attain a spiritual status and believe in God ourselves. So once again, I say it's God's influence in our lives as His children that saves us when we actually act on our faith in Him and obey His commands. We study His Word and pray for His guidance and eventually we should see ourselves coming closer and closer to that which we see and study in God's Word. Notice Paul's words in 2 Cor 3:12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech-- 13unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. And James' words in Ja 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. So we should use God's Word to measure our lives and strive to come closer to that absolute standard of Perfection as Modeled by our Lord. Now of course, each of us is responsible for our own soul's condition and the relationship we establish with God our Father. AND since we are very definitely our brother's/sister's keeper, yes we are to love them enough to do our fruit inspecting and at least ask how they're doing in their walk with God. We SHOULD be willing to confess our faults, our weaknesses to one another, confide and pray for one another as the scriptures encourages us to do. In this way, we gain a closer fellowship with our family members AND a closer relationship with God. The overall net effect is that we're all transformed on a daily basis into better and more mature christians. Hopefully, we'll all be motivated to take as many as possible with us, hand in hand during our journey to Heaven. Do you not agree? I hope so. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

48 | NOR OF HUMAN DECISION...but born of God | John 1:13 | Country Girl | 132272
I agree with you 100 per cent. There's absolutely NOTHING we can possibly ever hope to do or say to earn our way to Heaven or to receive salvation based on our actions. BUT there are some things that God does expect from us to PROVE we really do belong to Him. James is most clear on this in his letter, Chapter 2. Ja 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. 24You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Just wanted to complete the picture. You see, it's not the works that saves us, it's our faith in God BUT real, genuine faith will produce these works. If there is no such works, according to James, we should be suspicious about the actual condition of our faith. IF that faith is dead as would be indicated by the lack of works in such a person's life, then it (the faith) is worthless to him, to you and me and most of all, to God. So, what is a person to do under this kind of guidance? We must look around, maybe in the world, maybe in our churches, wherever there is a need for Christianity, we must adopt a ministry of some kind and apply our talents as best we can. Lk 9:23 Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels. I hope this helps and Blessings to you. Country Girl |

49 | baptism regenerate? | Titus 3:5 | Country Girl | 132270
Baptism is just the final step to actually get us into the family of God much like the ritual of circumcism did for those wishing to become part of the Israelite family in the OT. Regeneration is an ongoing process. It's God's refining process by which he gets mankind to an acceptable level of righteousness or spiritual condition so we can enter Heaven. Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Also from Apostle John, Rev 3:18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. We could talk about perfecting your "armor of God" or "adding the fruits of the Spirit." There are many ways God expects us to "work out our salvation." All of these are aspects of Christianity God wants to see perfected in us as much as possible. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

Well said, Hank, Well said!! Amen. ALL Americans, every single one of us should vote. Otherwise as far as you are concerned all the ones who died to give us that wonderful blessing did so in vain. To all those NOT voting: I'd hate to think my son who was in the military for four years could have died when he was in Middle East protecting your right to vote and now you're telling me you think you'll NOT vote as a form of protest. Let's be completely honest with each other and just call that what it is. The sophisticated name for it is HOGWASH. I'll let you figure out what the less sophisticated names are. You bet this kind of talk makes me just a little angry. Almost as angry as our Lord must have been when He "cleansed His Father's House." Makes a true American want to do the same thing. God Bless America, land that I love. Country Girl |

51 | Integrity | Num 12:7 | Country Girl | 132024
As you've seen in the numerous responses, it's difficult to narrow the answer down to just one, there are so many good candidates from God's Word. But it seems you're striving to narrow the field down to those who showed such integrity ALL their lives (which you neglected to make clear in your initial question :-). So people like David, Paul and Moses who made serious mistakes in their lives wouldn't qualify and meet your very tough standard. I'm not sure I could top your candidates of Daniel or Joseph but I would remind you that Joseph did try to assert his way with his father in switching hands on his sons. That's the single instance where we see Joseph not in complete sync with God's chosen. One more candidate that at least should NOT be left out of this line up is Enoch. We don't know much about him but he at least led such a good life that God took him without the advent of death. Your question does spark some very good discussion so Blessings to you, my friend. 52 | should a catholic marraige be sanctified | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 131939
As I alluded to in my earlier posts, the biggest thing that the Pope, indeed the whole Papacy system needs to repent for is their sin of deceiving the whole world. Don't you see, this issue is somewhat closely related to the very core foundation upon which this Forum was founded. Along with acknowledging the Absolute Supremecy of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and Holy Ghost is that of the Bible, God's Holy Word. The Bible (all of what It represents) not the actual hard copy with all of man's imperfections and translations is Absolutely Holy as it really is the acutal Words of God Himself. ONLY the Bible gets that kind of respect. No christian here on earth, no elder, deacon, nothing else and no one else on earth, nothing physical should command that kind of honor and should be put on that pedestal. For anyone to claim to receive a special "dose" of revelation about God's business, organization of or running the church's affairs in any way should conflict with His Guidance in our Bible. There's absolutely NOTHING in the Bible to suggest that Peter passed on this kind of authority from himself to anyone. IF he had, it would have been very clearly described and specifically detailed as this is an incredibly important issue. For any human being to take guidance from another human but to consider it equal to God's Word is ludicrous. When an objective study is made of God's Word and the history surrounding this controversy, it becomes astondingly clear this whole thing was man's doing. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Catholics didn't get around to actually declaring with a public proclamation about this infallibility of the Pope until 1870 AND this proclamation has NEVER been repealed nor has there ever been a public apology. AND this controversy had been discussed and hotly debated by the Catholics for centuries...even they could not agree on the exact wording for this proclamation. So, although I feel tremendous sorrow for Emmanus and his fellow Catholics, I cannot allow the Forum participants to misunderstand and buy into this continued deception without saying something about it. I have said and I will continue praying for Emmanus, but again when faced with a choice between the words of man or the Words of God, we must make our choice very clear. I hope this helps you understand and Blessings to you. Country Girl |

53 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | Country Girl | 131898
Your words do have a very solid ring of truth to them but as DocT implies in his post on this thread, the ultimate wisdom comes from God. In addition to Proverbs, I would really recommend Ecclesiastes for the more mature christian who really wants to get into some deep stuff. We just finished this book, written by the wisest man who ever live or will live, Solomon. It's a sad commentary to his life that in spite of all his wisdom and the wonderful legacy of a wonderful relationship, his father, King David had with God...it's a shame that Solomon didn't follow his own words in Chapter 12 of Ecclesiastes and obey God's Words and keep himself pure from the world. Nevertheless, he was the world's wisest man and we can still benefit from his suggestions. Eccl 12:13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. Blessings to all those who obey God's Word. Country Girl |

Thanks, Emmanus. I knew one of you intellectual sharpies would come to my rescue. I guess it's sorta like the tendancy for people to come up with quotes that aren't really in the Bible. We do seem to take certain liberties with famous quotes from the past. I do sincerely appreciate your great knowledge and handling of God's Word. Blessings to you, my dear friend. Country Girl |

I'm sure you've heard the expression: "All it takes for evil to succeed is for the good, moral folks in the world to remain silent." The devil will do the rest. I wish I could recall who said those words. Maybe you or DocT knows. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

56 | I'm looking a verse on prasing God. | NT general Archive 1 | Country Girl | 131705
I'm sure you'll get other scriptures from more folks on the Forum but I think this applies quite well, especially vs 24. Matt 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Matt 6:20 "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; Matt 6:21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. Matt 6:23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Matt 6:25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Matt 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? Matt 6:27 "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Matt 6:28 "And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, Matt 6:29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. Matt 6:30 "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Matt 6:31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' Matt 6:32 "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matt 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matt 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Let me know what you think. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I'll say just this one last statement and then hush as I really don't want to cause Emmanus or anyone else any more grief. The one single item that should be put on the pedestal that is claimed by the Pope is the Bible, God's Word. As long as the Pope DOES NOT make an open and public confession, repenting for his mistake then all Catholics everywhere will continue to be deceived. Again, ONLY the Bible (no particular version) can be placed on that pedestal commanding mankind everywhere to repent. Please notice, I'm NOT advocating worship and our bowing to the hard copy, written Bible. Absolutely not, only the Godhead get that kind of worship. But I AM saying that ONLY God's Word can be used to find Jesus and thus find God and eventually become a christian. Only the Bible (really only the NT for this dispensation) dictates with authority, activities, methods of worship and all other actions involving the Lord's church here on earth. Everything else has to wait until the ending of time and the universe on Judgment Day. I really need to hush now and get off my soapbox but Blessings to us all, especially Emmanus as he continues to study and pray on this matter. Our prayers are with you, my friend, Emmanus. Country Girl PS: This is one time, I'm thankful to see the "thread restriction" as I'd really only want the most mature christians to see this post. Blessings to our wise Lockman Foundation. |

Angel, your statement is very, very well put. I would add as a reminder to everyone that there's a somewhat militant portion of people who claim to be christians right here in America. Some of them talk about and apparently have actually executed some doctors and other medical personnel who were involved in the industry of performing abortions. Now of course, I don't believe in abortions but just as emphatically, I don't believe in killing those who do. Norrie, I really do hope you continue to study and pray on this matter as it will be very important to you in the future. Blessings to both you and Angel. Country Girl |

I deeply regret that you've been thoroughly deceived into believing this doctrine. I was really hoping you were a member of a Catholic sect that didn't believe in this particular deception. It's just so hard to believe that so many millions have been deceived in spite of all the Bible teaching AND the tremendous amount of history of abuses and mistakes of the Catholic organization over the fifteen hundred years they've been in existence. I really do hope you'll study and pray on this matter. I hope you'll reconsider after seeing all the posts from the other Forum participants. Please continue to pray and study on all of this. I would encourage you to think about this. There's nothing in the Bible giving power and authority to the Pope to rule in such an absolute manner as he does. Blessings to you, dear friend. I'm glad to see that you don't believe in the infallibility of the Pope. But the Pope and his organization in Rome do or so it seems according the Catholic website, http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07790a.htm. Concerning the custom of praying through the saints in Heaven, it seems that Jesus taught in Jn 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. and endorsed by Paul 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. Blessings to you, dear friend. Country Girl |
