42 | Advise on contradictions found in bible | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 17618
12 thrones of Isreal - 12 Including one devil. It was during Jesus' 4th journey at which time, Jesus told the Apostles that they would sit on the twelve thrones of Isreal, (Autumn,A.U.C. 780 to Passover, 781) It was during Jesus' 5th journey in which He identified one fo the Apostles as the devil. (Spring A.U.C. 781). Again, these are not conflicting statements, but statements which were made at different times. And, it should be noted that after the death of Judas, the remaining eleven Apostles elected a new 12th Apostle - keeping the total at 12 - which gave truth and merit to both statements made by Jesus. The true questions which needs to be addressed here is: What was Judas' real role and why did Jesus pick him. Did Jesus not know what He was doing? Did Jesus knowingly pick Judas to fulfill Scripture? Did Jesus pick Judas to show the fraility of man, even when the men are committed to Christ? Brian |

All Other 'Contradictions' Upon closer inspection, all will realize that there is no contradiction - only loose interpretations of the Bible - God's word - based upon a single passage or phrase, instead of learning the whole word of God. When people take the time to learn the whole word of God, then the full meaning, truth and greatness of God's word, and of God Himself, will become evident to each person. Brian |

45 | How do we know the Bible is the truth? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 18178
1. God is truth 2. Jesus is the Christ - the ideal truth that came as a divine manifestation of God 3. We have the testimony of Jesus. 4. History alone allows us to establish the fact that Jews and Christians have always believed in the inspiration of the Bible 5. Those who first recognized in the Bible a superhuman work, had as foundation of their opinion, the testimony of the Prophets, of Christ, and of the Apostles, whose Divine mission was sufficiently established by immediate experience or by history. 6. To this purely rational argument can be added the authentic teaching of the Church 7. Every Christian sect, still deserving that name, believes in the inspiration of the Scriptures, although some have more or less altered the idea of inspiration. 8. Thus, the Bible is truth Brian |

46 | HOW COULD JESUS BE A DESCENDANT OF DAVID | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 20958
The genealogy of Christ according to the First Evangelist descends from Abraham through three series of fourteen members each; the first fourteen belong to the patriarchal order, the second to the royal and the third to that of private citizens. Matthew 1:17, shows that this arrangement was intended; for the writer expressly states: "So all the generations, from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations. And from David to the transmigration of Babylon, are fourteen generations: and from the transmigration of Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations." First Series 1. Abraham 2. Isaac 3. Jacob 4. Judas 5. Phares 6. Esron 7. Aram 8. Aminadab 9. Naasson 10. Salmon 11. Booz 12. Obed 13. Jesse 14. David Second Series 1. Solomon 2. Roboam 3. Abia 4. Asa 5. Josaphat 6. Joram 7. Ozias 8. Joatham 9. Achaz 10. Ezechias 11. Manasses 12. Amon 13. Josias 14. Jechonias Third Series 1. Jechonias 2. Salathiel 3. Zorobabel 4. Abiud 5. Eliacim 6. Azor 7. Sadoe 8. Achim 9. Eliud 10. Eleazar 11. Mathan 12. Jacob 13. Joseph 14. Jesus By virtue of Joseph's marriage with Mary, Jesus could be called the son of Joseph, he can for the same reason be called "son of David" (St. Augustine, On the Harmony of the Gospels, II, i, 2). 47 | So when did "evil" start? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 23394
Lisa I'm not a Biblical scholar, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn. I'm told the door was closed on new writings being added on this simple basis: Understand the true purpose of the Bible and with that, what more (thoughts, words, beliefs, ideas and so on) could be said or gained that isn’t already in the Bible. I agree that it is wonderful to read every word about God, which you can get your hands on. And, there is nothing stopping you from doing this. But, do these words truly belong within the Bible. Do they add to helping the Bible accomplish its purpose? Maybe someone can help me locate this verse, I can't remember or locate it, in effect it said that there isn't enough room on earth to write down every important thing that Jesus did in His life, so the author was only documenting the significant events. The Bible, as a whole, is just that, it focuses on the significance - not every single detail of every single moment. We know Jesus ate every day, but to record every meal is less meaningful than to document The Last Supper. By the way, I've enjoyed reading your posts. Brian |

49 | When did the catholic church go wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 26105
Ed I wish to thank you for posting this question. On this forum, we have had much discussion of the pro's and con's of the Catholic Church, but all attitudes and comments have been revealed only in bits and pieces. This question has given people the opportunity to clearly state their thoughts and opinions - and I personally have found that to be extremely enlightening. I urge all forum members to contribute your thoughts to this question, posed by Ed, in the constructive manner in which it was posted - and let's see how everything shakes out. This thread is not the place for defensive postioning - but for taking the first step of understanding. Again, Ed - thanks for taking the initiative for posting this valuable question. Brian |

Emmaus I am a fellow Catholic. I appreciate your enthusiasm on the topic - but, this thread is not about belief in Mary. It is an open discussion as to what people feel is wrong with the Catholic Church. It is important that you give people an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and opinions. Please work with me and end this debate about Mary on this thread. As is each person on this forum, I am your brother in Christ. Brian |

55 | How important is your Church? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 29128
Searcher In my question, perhaps I should have used the term: parish, congregation, etc. The intent of my question was focusing on the local community at which we worship. Also, in my question, it doesn't matter if the services are conducted in a storefront, a formal church, or a gymnasium. The intent is the local community. On that basis, would you say your answer would be 1 or 2, or higher? Brian |

moedee Thank you for your response. And I am happy to see that you have found so much satisfaction and happiness within your assembly. I agree the church is God's people, not the building. Does your church play a role in enhancing your relationship with Jesus? If so, how and how significant is it? Thank you Brian |

Hugger Thank you for your personal reflections. I realize you have put a great deal of thought into this, for my benefit. Now, I am going to ask more of you. You said God brought you to this church , just like the last and you have not felt the need to search for another. First, what do you expect from your church. Do you receive this from your current church, and not from the former? Next, what do you bring to the church to help make the church more meaningful in bringing other members, to a closer relationship to Jesus? I apologize for putting you on the spot and if you prefer not to answer, then no explanation is needed. Thank you Brian |

Norrie As always, I thank you for your open and honest assistance. I have another question I would hope you can assist me with. Within this thread, one of our fellow forum-members, Hugger, made this statement: When I miss more than two weeks of fellowshipping, I start to shed other things too....like reading the Bible and talking to the Lord, etc. Does this happen to you, also? Thanks, again Brian |
