41 | What if you don't obey that command? | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 57009
I know that people repented and were baptized when they heard the "gospel of Christ" preached because the bible tells me so. I know when I watch Christian TV or listen to Christian Radio not to mention all the church services I have sat through the entire gospel is not preached including baptism and if it not preached it is not heard and if it is not heard how can one make a clear decision? So what don't I know??? The bible is our example!!!
42 | repost of circumcission and baptism? | Col 2:12 | rferg | 57005
Greetings! Your statement is correct! There hasn't been a change. The average person doesn't realize what the "Sabbath" (seventh day of the week), which would be Saturday is reffering to. Since our world revolves from Monday through Sunday, which would mean that the seventh day of the week would be Sunday. God only made one day Holy and sanctified it and it was the Sabbath (seventh day of the week.) Satan always has a conterfiet for the truth. The truth is there is only one creator of heaven and earth and everything in it. The true God is our creator. When we worship HIm on the day he made Holy we are stating we worship the true God our creator! |

43 | 3 baptisms or 1, or... | Col 2:12 | rferg | 57001
Greeting Nolan! What you are saying is that baptism in water has nothing to do with salvation or baptism in the Holy Spirit or for that matter circumcision of the heart. You believe that when you first "believe" with your mind or in your heart that you are a "sinner" and that Jesus is the Son of God that has been sent to save you, you are "born again" and filled with the Holy Spirit and your heart is spiritually circumcised . This is when you recieve salvation. You believe that baptism in water is at a later time commanded for those who believe. Am I hearing you correctly? |

I know what the "Gospel of Christ" is. I said how many pastor's are preaching it in churches today because the gospel that was preached then, lead people to repent and be baptized in water. Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were three thousand souls add unto them. I don't think there is any argument when they heard the gospel they repented and were baptized because it was part of the process, or God (who is very systematic)wouldn't have one example after another from Matthew through Acts. You are using one scripture by itself to make a point, which is not uncommon. In 1:17 Cor. Paul was making a point and it started up in 1:11 there were contentions among them. They were saying I am of Paul and I am of Apollos and I am of Cephas and I of Christ. Paul asked if Christ was divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Galus; Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other (in that area). 17 For Christ sent me not to baptized, but to preach the gospel: not with widseom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. The point Paul was making is that Paul was not crucified for them but Christ was and they were not baptized in the name of Paul, but Christ. It wasn't important who was doing the baptizing. Paul was sent to preach the gospel and he probably had disciples there doing the baptizing. They didn't need to be divided among themselves. When Jesus in John 322-23 Jesus was preaching the gospel and his disciples were doing the baptizing. |

45 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 56874
If you read the chapter in it's entirety, it does speak of baptism in verse 22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the Land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. 23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized. Read the entire chapter of John 3.
46 | What if you don't obey that command? | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 56870
Regardless of when you were baptized the "gospel of Christ" that was preached by John the Baptist, Jesus, the apostles, and the disciples (witnesses) was a gospel that when they heard and believed they repented and were baptized immediately and soon filled with the Holy Spirit. I see this example repeatedly from Matthew through Acts. Are the lost hearing that same gospel they preached? Why wouldn't we want to be buried with him in baptism into death, that we may be raised to the newness of life, unless this part of the gospel was not preached.
47 | What if you don't obey that command? | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 56869
One thing is for sure, John the Baptist, Jesus, the apostles and disciples (witnesses) "preached the gospel of Christ" and this gospel they preached lead people who believed to repent and be baptized immediately. The question is what was the "gospel of Christ" they preached? Is this same gospel being preached to the lost in churches today? Read every example from Matthew through the book of Acts and the simple minded (those of us who arn't scholars)will get a clear picture that when they heard the gospel and believed they were baptized immediately.

Tim, You are mistaken about John 3:5 or at least in the version of the bible I am reading (I don't mean that sarcastically either). John 3:5 Jesus answered, Truly truly I say to you, unless one is born of water (shallow grave)(not referring to physical birth) an the Spirit (Jesus was filled with the Spirit during his baptism), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh (physical birth) and that which is born of the Spirit (though baptism in water) is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, you must be born again. Without baptism we don't recieve the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the life giver, the Spirit of Truth. Can the Holy Spirit live in a body that has not died to sin, certainly not. We need the Holy Spirit to teach us the word, to lead us in to paths of truth and righteousness. What would clear all this up is pastors preached a sermon on repentance of sin and explained exactly what sin is according to the bible and then ask all those who wanted to repent of their sins and be baptized to come forward and baptize them. That's what they did in the bible and that's are example. Sounds simple to me! |

It is not baptism that saves us it's our faith in God's grace that he sent his Son Jesus to save us from the pentalty of death. Mark 16:16 HE WHO HAS BELIEVED AND HS BEEN BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED.
51 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 56314
Baptism is a requirement for entering the kingdom of God John 3:2-7 that's a fact. If you read everything the bible has to say about baptism from the beginning of Matthew the subject will become more clear. For years we have listen to pastors tell us what subjects actually mean by pulling a scripture here and there to prove their point John 3:16 is a perfect example read it from John 3:1 through 3:16 and you will clearly see what the word "believe" means. If you read scripture in full passages the subject will become clear. The word "believe" is an action word. Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as rightousness. Abraham believed God and was willing to sacrifice his only son Isac. He took his family and moved. Noah believed and built an ark. Can you imagine how crazy everyone thought he was? All who heard John the baptist preaching repented and were baptized. They believed the gospel of Christ and that's what saved them and because they believe they proved it by doing something. Read John 14,15 and Number 21:6 explains it. It said If they belived. You used a lot of scripture that says, "if you believe", Mark 16:16 He who had believed and has been baptized shall be saved. I urge you to go back and read Matthew,Mark,Luke and JOhn and Act to see if Romans makes more sence. No where in scriture do I see someone preaching a sermon that doesn't pretain to repenance and then ask if you want to make Jesus you savior, amen and you are saved. |

52 | Isn't this verse saying that we rise to | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 56310
Baptism doesn't save us, faith in our saviour Jesus Christ does. We need to believe we are sinners because we have broken his commandments and the pentalty is death. The important thing is what must we do to enter the kingdom of God and that my friend is you must be born again, baptized. Read John 3 in it's entirety and you will see that if you believe you will be baptized.
53 | When does newness of life start? | Rom 6:4 | rferg | 56307
All I know is what I read in my bible. Nicodemus knew who Jesus was and Jesus told him he must be born again (baptized) to enter the kingdom of God. When John the Baptist came preaching repent of your sins and be baptized and those who believe in the gospel of Christ did so. In John 3:14 gives the example And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up. 15 that whoever believes (start in Matthew and read what every person who believed did, they were baptized immediately) may in him have eternal life. Read Numbers 21:6 it explains what JOhn 3:14 means. Notice that IF they believed they would look up to the bronze serpent (reprented the righteousness of Christ on a cross)and IF they didn't believe and look up they died. Look in the book of Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the HOly Spriit. 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about three thousand souls. Continue to read one example after another in the book of Acts. The word "believe" is an action word. And if you look closely you will see the verse John 3:16 is quoted out of context. This is not just saying I believe Jesus is the Son of God, or I except Jesus as my Lord and Savior, the example is very clear. If you believe you will repent of your sins (breaking the Ten Commandments of God) and be baptized into the kingdom of God. You will be born of the Spirit.

The book "New Age Bible Versions", by G.A. Riplinger, gives a lot of informtion on the dead sea scrolls, bible versions, and Hebrew and Greek translations and many other facinating topics. This information has helped me a great deal determine truth which I have been looking for for many years. |
