41 | Why would we be undone? | 1 Cor 11:30 | Sir Pent | 120426
Attempt at consensus.................................................. Hi everybody, I don't think there is as much disagreement here as you all seem to think that there is. That being said, I would like to add my two cents. We all agree that only God has the power and authority to justify us. Don't we all agree that God giving us this privaledge of salvation that we do not deserve is grace? Don't we all agree that if we accept this free gift of God and become Christians, there is a change in who we are? Don't we all agree that after who we are is changed, that our life will change as well. Our actions will align more and more with the will of God? Don't we all agree that there are people who continually live in a way that is offensive to God and they do not even try to please Him? The fruit of these people indicate that they have never been changed on the inside regardless of their claims. Therefore, it is true that salvation comes by faith alone. However, it is also true that a person's life is one evidence of whether they truly have faith or not. |

42 | can you give some scriptures? | Bible general Archive 2 | Sir Pent | 119802
Personal Note............................................. Hi Hank, Ha, ha :) You are very correct. A person couldn't survive suicide. I should have said survived a suicide "attempt". This reminds me of one of my favorite movies called "It's a Wonderful Life". There's a line in there that says suicide is illegal around these parts. However, I wonder what the punishment would be considering the person would already be dead? |

43 | Words were ADDED to later manuscripts | Mark 16:9 | Sir Pent | 119797
Personal Note............................................. Hi Kalos, Thanks for your response clarifying your position. I am glad to hear that you also believe the Bibles that we have today to be "reliable". One word of caution though would be that you seem to still be saying that there were times when the Bible that people had was not reliable. By saying that some of the later "manuscripts" had words added, or that "earlier translations" were less reliable, you still introduce doubt into the authority of scripture. If you can judge those previous Bibles to be faulty that the people of their day trusted, then how do you know that hundreds of years from now people won't say the same thing about our Bible today? I believe that God has protected the truth and accuracy of His Word throughout all the time, copying, and translating since it was first written. Therefore, I believe that the Bible was just as authoritative in the manuscripts that the early church had, as it was in the early translations (like KJV) that the people had hundreds of years ago, and as it is still today in all of the major translations (NAS, NIV, etc.). |

44 | can you give some scriptures? | Bible general Archive 2 | Sir Pent | 119796
Defense of my position......................................... Hi BradK, I appreciate both your and Tim Moran's opposing viewpoint, and actually agree with you that suicide is not an unforgivable sin. I believe that if a person somehow survives suicide, they can indeed repent to God and be forgiven for it. However, if the person does not survive, then they cannot be saved. This is not because their sin is so terrible, but simply because a person cannot be saved who is in denial of God at the time that they die. I think that you and I would both agree that if a person dies in a state of denial of God's essential character then they cannot be saved. Therefore, the disagreement is simply over whether we believe that the person committing suicide is denying God or not. As I stated in my previous post, a person who commits suicide (assuming mental capability for rational thought) is making a decision based on several beliefs. They believe that their present situation is beyond God's ability to help them through (denying His power) or that He does not want to help them (denying His love). They also deny that He has a plan for the rest of their life (denying His word in Jeremiah 29:11). Do you have any other way to see this than a denial of God? |

45 | No trnsfiguration account in John? | John 1:14 | Sir Pent | 119496
Personal Note.............................................. Mommapbs, Thanks for pointing out that the disciples fell asleep at both the transfiguration and in the garden where Jesus was arrested. These were two times when they most should have been awake and in prayer, yet they gave into temptation of the flesh. Isn't it interesting that thousands of years later, Satan still uses the same strategy. How many times have I tried to read the Bible or pray early in the morning or late at night, and find myself giving into sleep and losing focus on God? |

46 | Words were ADDED to later manuscripts | Mark 16:9 | Sir Pent | 119494
An opposing view............................................. Kalos, Unless I misunderstand your post, you seem to be quoting the position that words have been added to our modern Bibles that were not originally meant to be there by the authors or God. I disagree with that position, and would recommend that people interested in this subject type in the number 15780 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen. This will go to a thread that contains many forum member's thoughts regarding the inspiration of the Bible. The consensus was that we can trust the Bibles that we have today just as much as the originals, and that is what I believe. |

47 | Log off the web now IF... | Eph 4:11 | Sir Pent | 119493
Personal Note.............................................. Kalos, Thanks for this great post about the search for true meaning. Indeed, not all interpretations are equal. There is a correct meaning to scripture and it is our duty to try to discover what it is. |

Personal Note.............................................. Kalos, Thanks for this great post reminding us to read the scripture to find what God says, and not what we want it to say. |

50 | Blasphemy against Holy Spirit | Mark 3:30 | Sir Pent | 119129
Personal Note.............................................. Hi Norrie, I'm glad that God was patient and forgiving and allowed me to come back. I also haven't forgotten Star Trek, although I haven't watched most of the new shows, and the old ones don't come on anymore. As for your questions regarding blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I think that it is not a one time thing that can't be forgiven, but rather something that can't be forgiven as long as you continue to do it. For more of my thoughts on this do a search for number 21448. |

51 | Who celebrates Easter Sunday and Why ? | NT general Archive 1 | Sir Pent | 119113
Personal Note.............................................. Hi Justme, I am glad to get to interact with you again. I apologise for taking so long to respond to your request for my thoughts, but I have been too busy to spend much time here at the forum for a while. As for your concern about my referring people to other posts making the forum less inviting to yourself and others, I had not really thought about that. I am sad that you felt that your ideas were not appreciated and that pushed you away. On the opposite side, I was pushed away for a while because of the repetative nature of the forum. Some discussions just seemed to repeat themselves endlessly. Anyway, my reason for referring people to other posts is simply because it is a forum guideline to do searches before asking questions. I would guess that 80 percent of the questions that people post have already been asked before indicating that this forum guideline is not being followed thoroughly. However, I am also aware that the search engine for this forum leaves a lot to be desired, and someone could try to do a search and simply not come across a thread on their subject. Therefore, I try to assist by pointing them to a thread that I already know from experience relates to their topic. I am truly trying to help them. I do hope that they will share their own thoughts on the subject. I just want them to do so after being informed of what has already been written. I hope that this all makes sense to you and that you can see more clearly where I am comming from. Have a great day and please keep sharing your ideas with us all :) |

52 | Blasphemy against Holy Spirit | Mark 3:30 | Sir Pent | 119109
Referral to another thread............................................ Hi Hank and Norrie, I would like to point you to another post on this subject. If you search for post number 15952 you will find my personal testimony of a time in my life when I rejected Christianity and God. I was most definately a Christian before it happened (as opposed to those who say such people were never saved to begin with). I did not reject God due to fear (as you are talking about the disciple Peter). Instead, I actually decided that Christianity and my faith in God were in error and turned my back on them. Thankfully, God allowed me to live long enough to come back to a good relationship with Him through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. And I am glad to know that I am saved and going to Heaven now (as opposed to those who say that once a believer denies God that they can never return). |

A different view............................................. There has been a previous discussion about whether to call Easter by another name (such as Ressurection Sunday). Please type in the number 113147 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen to go to that discussion. |

Personal Note……………………………………………….. Hi Aniset, I am surprised to see you still able to post, for I had heard your privileges were revoked. I would greatly appreciate it if you would clarify a post of yours. It is number 117322 and it states that Jesus was “God’s first creation”. That seems to say that there was a time when Jesus did not exist. Is that really what you believe, or am I misunderstanding you? P.S. Thanks for updating your user profile, as agreed. That will help people to know where you are coming from on certain issues. |

55 | Where does it say two were in the field | Matt 24:40 | Sir Pent | 117843
Personal Note............................................. Hi Henry and Emmy, I'm glad that you are meeting with other Christians besides yourselves on a regular basis. I also understand you desire for more response on the content of you original post. The reason why I asked about the JW group is simply because we have recently had one prominantly participating in the forum and I didn't know if you were coming from the same place. You are relatively new here to the forum with few posts so far, and I just wanted to see where you were coming from. Please don't be offended for that was not at all my intent. As for the content of your post, I did not respond to it due to the fact that it dealt with the rapture and eschotology. I have not really studied either of these subjects deeply and do not have anything of interest to share on the subject. Perhaps someone else will :) Finally, it's good to have you participating here on the forum and I look forward to more correspondence in the future. |

Personal Note......................................................... Hi Colin, I agree that the forum would benefit by stopping cult members from inviting people to email them for more information. However, that is totally up to Lockman and not us. Also I wonder how they could eliminate this without banning all people from posting their email addresses. Do you have any ideas? |
