"LYDIA,THE FIRST EUROPEON CONVERT' "And a certain woman name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us : whose hearts the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul." [Acts 16:14] God has made great use of women, and greatly honored them in the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Holy women ministered to our Lord when he was upon the earth, and since that time much sacred work has been done by their patient hands. Man and woman fell together; together they must rise. After the resurrection, it was a woman who was first commissioned to carry the glad tidings of the risen Christ; and in Europe, where woman was in future days to be set free from many of the trammels of the East, it seems fitting that a woman should be the first believer. Not only, however, was Lydia a sort of first-fruit for Europe, but probably also became a witness in her own city of Thyatira, in Asia. We do not know how the gospel was introduced into that city; but we are informed of the existence of a church there by the message of the ascended Christ, through his servant John, to "the angel of the church in Thyatira." Very likely Lydia became the herald of the gospel in her native place. Let the women who know the truth proclaim it; for why should their influence be lost? "The Lord giveth the word; the women that publish the tidigs are a great host." Women can be as powerful for the evil as for good: we see it in this very church of Thyatira, where the woman Jezebel, who called herself a prophetess, sought to seduce many from the truth. Seeing, then, that the devil employs women in his service, let those women whom God has called by his grace be doubly earnest in seeking to prevent or undo the mischief that others are working. If not called to public service, all have the home-sphere wherein they can shed forth the aroma of a godly life and testimony. May God Bless You, John Ryals |

42 | women preachers | 1 Tim 2:12 | John Ryals | 228034
It is true that 1st Timothy 2:12 states, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." In verse 11 of the same book and chapter, "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection," it's meaning is made clear in I Cor. 14:34-35; and Eph. 5:22-25. If I'm understanding correctly, my reference scripture in 1st Corinthians is where Paul is trying to set some guidelines for the Church at Corinth. In the Churches at that time, men and women did not normally sit together, but rather on opposite sides of the room; the women would call out to their husbands asking for an explanation concerning certain things, which was interrupting the Services. The reference scripture of Ephesians 5:22-25 is the Holy Spirit, through the Apostle, relating to the spiritual leadership of the family. However, the submision is to be to Christ as Lord and Master, and not to the husband. If the husband's supremacy had been in view, it would have been expressed in a different manner, so say the Greek scholars. If the wife properly submits to the Lord, she will properly submit to her husband as it regards spiritual leadership, that is if he knows the Lord. If he doesn't know the Lord, such submission cannot be tendered. To further address 1st Timothy 2:12, if a male teacher is more qualified, he should take the lead, but what if there are no male teachers? To finish my note entry, I feel we must take into consideration of a scripture that is in the Book of Joel. Joel 2:28 states, "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions." This Promise of the Spirit is placed out of chronological order in order to ccouple it with the material blessings of, [Joel 2:21-27] and to provide for acts, Chpt 2. In fact, the phrase, "And it shall come to pass afterward, tahr I will pour out My Spiritupon all flesh," even though beginning on the Day of Penecost, still, will not be totally fulfilled until the coming Kingdom Age. "And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy," refers to the Gifts of the spirit, which accompanied the outpouring of the Holy spirit duirin the time of the Early Church, and which continues to this hour [I Cor. 12:7-11; however, and as stated, this will have a complete fulfillment in the coming Kingdom Age. As well, the outpouring of the Spirit is for all --- old and young, men and women. Even the Evangelist Philip had four daughters which Prophesied during the time of Paul, [Acts 21:8-9]; Is there not the idea that they were Evangelists exactly as their father, which strikes down the idea that women cannot preach? 44 | Is judgement on judgement day private? | Rev 20:12 | John Ryals | 227936
Help me. I am having some difficulity understanding what (Luke 8:17) has to do with 'Judgement Privacy'? The Candle is the subject and the context is (Luke 8:16-18) Christ, using Parables, is not meant to hide Truth form sincere, inquiring hearts, but rather the very opposite; (the teaching of Christ was designed to appeal to the honest, seeking heart; He wants men to "see the light"). In verse 17, He is addressing to the mysteries of the Gospel; and that it would all be made known in the New Covenant. Verse 18 refers to not only what is heard, but how it is heard; 'To him shall be given", constitutes a 'Divine Law' that whosoever accepts Truth will be given Truth. The last statement of verse 18 could be viewed as 'light rejected is light withdrawn.' |
