41 | Sola Scriptura supported by bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 48322
Steve A more complete definition of infallible includes: "not liable to mislead, deceive, or disappoint" (Merriam-Webster), which means we, the faithful, will accept without judgement. There are some teachings in which the use of your shortened definition list is appropriate, such as when the Pope does confirm that Jesus is God, the Churchs position on the Trinity and so on. I think we all agree with those infallible teachings of the Catholic Church. But, there are other proclamations, announcements, decisions - which, I will accept from the Pope and I will not judge him to be right or wrong. I will accept that the Pope has prayed on it, sought counsel and is being guided with truth and honesty. Now, you and I are not obligated to accept the leadership of the Pope, but I choose to. So, now that the full definition of the word is now known, you can see that both you and dschaertel are correct. Brian |

Joe God gave each of us a free will to accept or reject whatever we wish. I have chosen to accept the pastoral leadership of the Pope and the teachings of the Catholic Church. You, may use your free will to accept or reject whatever you decide. Brian |

43 | Papal Authority Optional for RCC? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 48351
Hank If I do not fully accept the pastoral leadership of the Pope and the teachings of the Catholic Church, then I would have chosen not to be a Catholic. If I have chosen not to be a Catholic, then the "penalty" I believe I would receive would be a less complete relationship with God. What would the Church do to me, for choosing not to be a Catholic - nothing worse than what I would have already done to myself. Brian |

Hank I'm not trying to play games with words or avoid your question. In today's world, the Church does recognize that the greater penalty which we would suffer is in our relationship with God. Church law - Each case is evaluated on its own merit and many factors are taken into consideration. There is no cut and dried answer. Brian |

46 | What does a godfather do? | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 71330
Makarios A godfather in Baptism and a sponsor in Confirmation share similiar roles in this life-long relationship of developing and nurturing, in Christ. An example of this role is seen in 2 Timothy in the nurturing relationship Paul had with Timothy. By the time this letter was written, Timothy had spent many years under the guidance of Paul. Brian |

Nolan You have taken it upon yourself to be a teacher on this forum. A teacher is a leader. Be a leader and teach the word of God. But, teach with the wisdom your students are entitled to. You have much to offer the members of this forum, but offer it with dignity and wisdom. Brian |

Each denomination has a slightly different interpretation on salvation, why not take advantage of this opportunity and teach what you believe when someone is receptive to listening to you instead of shutting them out.

52 | Answer the Question | OT general | Brian.g | 14252
Yes, I do understand what you are looking for, but unfortunately, I am not the person who can provide the answer. From your other posting, I sense your frustration. However, all things said and done, this is a fine forum in which, overall, people want to help teach. I am sure someone here will assist you with your question. There are many good Christians here. Give the others a chance to come to your assistance. |

retxar I understand your thoughts, but I think you will agree that one thing lacking in this forum is tolerance of others who don't think exactly the same way the others think. But, I also know that when the list that DIM has asked for help in compiling, everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised at the similiarities. With the knowledge, I think tolerance will grow of other Christians and that will help expand the benefits of this forum. In the name of Christian brotherhood, will you try to answer for one of the denominations? Brian |

No, I'm not the person to speak for the Catholic Church. If this information is going to be used for instructional purposes, I have the responsibility to the student, as well as the Church to explain things exactly right. I'm not qualified at this time. Nolan, Hank, Steve Butler, Tim Moran and all others - Who can help DIM finish this project. |

59 | if someone take there own life where wil | NT general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 16012
I just said it was a sin, not that it would keep him from heaven. If a person suffers financial loss or some other situation which would cause humilitation and ultimately, suicide, I'm not sure that they have found and trusted Jesus. Otherwise, I would hope that their faith in Jesus would help them through this crisis. |

Norrie I would like to join Lisa with an answer to your question. But, first, I would like to refresh everyones memory that the definition of the word Catholic is 'universal'. Your quotes from the Catholic Catechism are taken from the section entitled "The Church and Non-Christians". The previous section to this is entitled "Who belongs to the Catholic Church?" or Universal Church of Christ (my words). 836 "All men are called to this catholic (universal) unity of the People of God.... And to it, in different ways, belong or are ordered: the Catholic faithful, others who believe in Christ, and finally all mankind, called by God's grace to salvation." So you see, the Catholic (Universal) Church recognizes "others who believe in Christ". 838 "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter."322 Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."323 With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound "that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord's Eucharist.
