41 | Is LAST always FINAL | Bible general Archive 1 | 10ECPreacher | 34041
Greetings again, Praisemaster. You write: "John 3:37 All that it means it's the last day of the feast at that time." My reply: Precisely. And that's exactly how to apply the meaning of "eschatos" in 1 Cor. 15:52--all that it means is that it's the last trumpet call for the believers at that time. You write: "Cor1: 15:8 he was the last apostle...." My reply: the context of 1 Cor. 15:8 begins in verse 5: "and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also." [1 Cor. 15:5-8 NASB] I believe the reference here is to all those who had seen Jesus alive after his resurrection, not just the apostles. I'm not trying to convert you to my point of view. I just want to accurately and fairly represent the Word of God. Any offense is unintended and regretted. Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

42 | Salvation: "By" Grace, "Through" Faith. | Eph 2:8 | 10ECPreacher | 34038
Salvation: "By" grace, "through" faith... ...and "that" [Salvation] is not the result of anything you or I have done, but it is the gift or present from God to mankind. 1. "By" grace... Nothing anyone ever did could either merit or produce the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the sinless Lamb of God. It was God Incarnate who "took upon Him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men; and being found in the fashion of a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." (Phil. 2:7-8) This was the means of procuring salvation for all mankind. And in the very word "grace" [charis] we see a "gift" from God. "How beautiful God's salvation plan When Grace the awful gulf did span And He took on the form of man To take our sins away." Grace... the bridge built by God in the person of Christ that spans the gulf between lost humanity and glorious deity. 2. "Through" faith... Faith is believing enough to "walk across the bridge built by grace." No man simply sitting on the side of the gulf and viewing the beautiful bridge built by grace can consider himself "saved" simply because he acknowledges the construction of the bridge. Faith without works is lifeless; faith with works brings eternal life. God so loved the world that He gave to it the very embodiment and personification of Himself (His dearly beloved Son), so that whoever would actively and continually believe in Him (have faith in Him, i.e., trust and obey His teachings and continue in His Word) would not perish (be lost as is the unharvested grain in a field), but that they would have everlasting life (the essence of salvation). When crossing the bridge, we acknowledge that we had neither the knowledge nor the means to construct it; but we also recognize that the mere building of the bridge did not put us on the far side of it--we must "walk by faith" in order to reach the other side. 43 | Is Jesus the source? | John 7:38 | 10ECPreacher | 34028
Hello, Ray. When I read John 3:34 my mind jumped to Col. 2:9. "For since He Whom God has sent speaks the words of God [proclaims God's own message], God does not give Him His Spirit sparingly or by measure, but boundless is the gift God makes of His Spirit! [Deut. 18:18.]" [John 3:34 Amplified] "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;" [Col. 2:9-10 NASB] I like to think that the Giver is one and the same with the Gift. "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you." [John 14:15-18 NASB] "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." [John 14:26 NASB] "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me," [John 15:26 NASB] "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you." [John 16:7 NASB] What a Gift! What a Giver! Which leads us to one of the most profound verses in the Bible: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich." [2 Cor. 8:9 NASB] Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

45 | Double portion is really only two-thirds | 2 Kin 2:9 | 10ECPreacher | 33895
Greetings, Curt and charis. Who said God doesn't have a sense of humor? :O) Actually, when I finished laughing it dawned on me that I left out the fact that after dividing the total inheritance into three equal parts and giving the firstborn two of the three parts, the remaining one part was then divided equally among the remaining heirs. So, if there was only one heir he would get the double portion and the remaining portion, also. If there were two heirs, the firstborn would get the double portion (two parts) and the remaining heir would get the entire remaining part (single portion). If there were three heirs, the firstborn would get the double portion (two parts) and the remaining two heirs would each get one half of the remaining part. Et cetera, ad infinitum, ad nauseum... Thanks for your very uplifting posts! I've heard of splitting theological hairs, but this is the first time I've been involved with splitting theological heirs. (Sorry--I couldn't resist.) Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

46 | Is the first resurection in Mat 27:52 | Rev 20:5 | 10ECPreacher | 33888
Sorry, benjamite. I actually was agreeing with you. I didn't mean to leave the impression that you said anything wrong. I was just trying to paint with a very broad brush. The way I understand it [and that is not a claim to infallibility :)] what is called the "first" resurrection is comprised of righteous souls only--beginning with the resurrection of Christ and ending at the beginning of the "thousand years." And what is called the "second" resurrection involves only the unrighteous souls, and does not occur until after the "thousand years" are finished. So, whether it be in Daniel or Revelation, that's the way I see it. Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

47 | Is the first resurection in Mat 27:52 | Rev 20:5 | 10ECPreacher | 33855
Greetings, friends. I have understood the two resurrections to be comprised of the resurrection of the "just" (righteous) and the resurrection of the "unjust" (unrighteous), with the former being the "first" resurrection and the latter being the "second" resurrection. "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment." [John 5:28-29 NASB] I further understand that the resurrection of Christ was the beginning of the first resurrection, and the first resurrection will not be completed until all who are righteous have been resurrected. "For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming,..." [1 Cor. 15:22-23 NASB] "The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years." [Rev. 20:5-6 NASB] "The rest of the dead" means the unrighteous or wicked. "This is the first resurrection" means this is the END of the first resurrection. Kind regards, Tim D. 48 | Is Jesus the source? | John 7:38 | 10ECPreacher | 33853
Thanks, Ray (and others who answered)... One of my study Bibles is called the Companion Study Bible, by Kregel Publications, (c)1990. The margin notes for these verses indicate that the first phrase of v.38 is connected with the last part of v.37. "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and let him drink that believes on Me. According as the Scripture has said [concerning Me], 'Out of His innermost being (which is to say, out of Him) will flow rivers of living water." In no way am I trying to be sarcastic, but I would like to point out that even a very big and highly motivated well could scarcely be considered a river. Jesus Christ is the river or fountain of living waters. Those who thirst and drink of (i.e., believe on) Him become wells of living water. In other words, they are essentially conduits of the Spirit of Christ (which is the Holy Spirit). I trust that my struggles to articulate my position have not been offensive to all who have stated positions that are different than mine. Kind regards to all, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

49 | Any biblical corrolation Atlantis? | Bible general Archive 1 | 10ECPreacher | 32878
Hank, I agree with you concerning our Christian duty, and I regret that I failed to make myself clear enough on that score. "When it comes to God's word, I do not like to deal in myth, theory, or speculation -- nothing beyond what the word of God reveals. If we knew in minute detail all the facts of creation, what does it profit us if we don't know what we must do to be saved?" I definitely agree with you on this point in the sense that the only thing that we can speak with authority is that which has already been spoken by God--i.e., in His Word. I do believe, however, that there are things contained in the Scripture that are not plainly revealed--i.e., they are concealed from the casual observer. Obviously, the Plan of Salvation is not in this category, but some things are. Everyone will not necessarily desire or be able to understand all the hidden mysteries of God and His Kingdom, but some will. Here's something to consider: "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a thing." [Proverbs 25:2 Amplified] This certainly does not give license for idle, mindless speculation. But it is possible that we may better understand and be better prepared for the future if we have a better grasp of the past. "Yet when we are among the full-grown (spiritually mature Christians who are ripe in understanding), we do impart a [higher] wisdom (the knowledge of the divine plan previously hidden); but it is indeed not a wisdom of this present age or of this world nor of the leaders and rulers of this age, who are being brought to nothing and are doomed to pass away. But rather what we are setting forth is a wisdom of God once hidden [from the human understanding] and now revealed to us by God--[that wisdom] which God devised and decreed before the ages for our glorification [to lift us into the glory of His presence]. None of the rulers of this age or world perceived and recognized and understood this, for if they had, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory. But, on the contrary, as the Scripture says, What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed]. [Isa. 64:4; 65:17.] Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man's scrutiny]. For what person perceives (knows and understands) what passes through a man's thoughts except the man's own spirit within him? Just so no one discerns (comes to know and comprehend) the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God. And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit]. But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated. But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him]. For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. [Isa. 40:13.]" [1 Corinthians 2:6-16 Amplified] Kind regards, Tim D. 50 | Question about Genesis 6:6 | Genesis | 10ECPreacher | 32777
Friends, I wholeheartedly agree with your answer, Curt. I would also like to point out that the Apostle Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, made the following observation: "But these [people]! Like unreasoning beasts, mere creatures of instinct, born [only] to be captured and destroyed, railing at things of which they are ignorant, they shall utterly perish in their [own] corruption [in their destroying they shall surely be destroyed]..." [2 Peter 2:12 Amplified] Apparently, some things were made by God just to be destroyed. Just think of the how many thousands of animals and plants were destroyed today just to sustain life on this planet! A caveat: this does not justify the abuse of animals. Anybody that would deliberately mistreat an animal is sick (scriptural term:fool). "A [consistently] righteous man regards the life of his beast, but even the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. [Deut. 25:4.]" [Proverbs 12:10 Amplified] The animal rights activists, however, are definitely promoting humanist propaganda. This is just another "old lie" of the "new age" movement. Thanks, friend. I too encourage everyone to study diligently the context of each scripture used. I believe that no scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation (2 Peter 1:20). I also subscribe to the Biblical principle that every fact must be established by the mouth of two or three witnesses. (See 2 Corinthians 13:1.) Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

Thanks! Hebrews 4:12 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. I consider it to be part of the gateway to Heb. 4:16--which in my opinion is one of the greatest passages of hope and comfort to the believer in the Bible. FYI--I just updated my profile with personal information. Yes, I live in Tennessee, but barely. I am in Bristol, which is a twin city, half in Tennessee and half in Virginia. Kind regards, Tim D. 53 | Questions Concerning Faith | Bible general Archive 1 | 10ECPreacher | 32758
Friends, Please consider the following scriptures in your quest for truth. Remember: we will not be judged as right or wrong based on our opinions or the opinions of others, but by the Word of God alone. "SINCE ALL this is true, we ought to pay much closer attention than ever to the truths that we have heard, lest in any way we drift past [them] and slip away." [Hebrews 2:1 Amplified] "[Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God." [Hebrews 3:12 Amplified] "For we have become fellows with Christ (the Messiah) and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation [in virtue of which we are believers] firm and unshaken to the end." [Hebrews 3:14 Amplified] "For it is impossible [to restore and bring again to repentance] those who have been once for all enlightened, who have consciously tasted the heavenly gift and have become sharers of the Holy Spirit, And have felt how good the Word of God is and the mighty powers of the age and world to come, If they then deviate from the faith and turn away from their allegiance--[it is impossible] to bring them back to repentance, for (because, while, as long as) they nail upon the cross the Son of God afresh [as far as they are concerned] and are holding [Him] up to contempt and shame and public disgrace." [Hebrews 6:4-6 Amplified] "But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit]." [1 Cor. 9:27 Amplified] "For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through [the full, personal] knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again become entangled in them and are overcome, their last condition is worse [for them] than the first. For never to have obtained a [full, personal] knowledge of the way of righteousness would have been better for them than, having obtained [such knowledge], to turn back from the holy commandment which was [verbally] delivered to them. There has befallen them the thing spoken of in the true proverb, The dog turns back to his own vomit, and, The sow is washed only to wallow again in the mire. [Prov. 26:11.]" [2 Peter 2:20-22 Amplified] "[My] brethren, if anyone among you strays from the Truth and falls into error and another [person] brings him back [to God],Let the [latter] one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save [that one's] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins [procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert]." [James 5:19-20 Amplified] "BUT THE [Holy] Spirit distinctly and expressly declares that in latter times some will turn away from the faith, giving attention to deluding and seducing spirits and doctrines that demons teach, Through the hypocrisy and pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared (cauterized)..." [1 Timothy 4:1-2 Amplified] "For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for [our] sins [no further offering to which to look forward]. [There is nothing left for us then] but a kind of awful and fearful prospect and expectation of divine judgment and the fury of burning wrath and indignation which will consume those who put themselves in opposition [to God]. [Isa. 26:11.]" [Hebrew 10:26-27 Amplified] There are many more but these came quickly to mind. Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |

54 | EXPLAIN HEBREWS 4:12 WHAT DOES IT MEAN? | Heb 4:12 | 10ECPreacher | 32743
Greetings friends. Tim Moran's answer is very good. I too understand this verse to be speaking of the written Word of God--and particularly the preaching of it. It is by the personal application of the preached Word of God that we are able to perceive the difference between the soul of man and his spirit; we can distinguish between the joints that merely join bones together and the marrow that fills them; and we are caused to discern the difference between our thoughts and our intentions. Note the following verse: Heb 4:13 "And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do." I believe that power of God's Word is such that when it is preached, God Himself becomes active in the process of examining our response to it. God is so great and powerful that He engineered His Word such that it can concurrently minister to our soul and our spirit; it can work on our external mechanical structure and at the same time help our internal bio-chemical being; it nurtures good thoughts so they become good intentions even while it roots out bad thoughts before they become evil intentions; and it helps us carry out good intentions while keeping us from performing evil ones. Wow! What a powerful God is our Lord Jesus Christ. Truly, man cannot live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |
