Hi, John, Thanks for your responses and kindness. And I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know the Christian websites where people discuss the presidential candidates from the biblical, not political, perspectives? God bless! |

Hi, John, I wonder why we should not discuss in this forum which presidential candidate is biblical when we discuss whether or not abortion, homosexuality, stem cell research, evolution, or UFO is biblical. I had no intention to debate on politics (read my original question carefully please), but as a Christian, I wanted to be a voter responsible to the Bible, thinking of which candidate God would be pleased with. I think we should know whether each candidate and his/her policies are biblical. Critically debating on every daily life issue used to be our Christian tradition. So, the church discussed not only the Bible, but the Biblical way of doing a variety of things such as philosophy, art, science, literature, and business. But recently the Church has been accepting the secular pressure that the religion should be constrained inside the church and separated from everything else. I personally think that is today’s Christian myopia which reduces God’s influence over the world. We Christians should live a Christian life in every field of life, I believe. God bless! |

Hi, John, The American Constitution was based on John Locke's idea of Lex Rex: The prince (that is, our president) should obey God's law. Almost every element of the Constitution came from God's law (that is, the Bible). The Congress always prayed to God ardently before starting the sessions and a minister prayed for the Congress. We started as a Christina nation although I don't think we still are. But I hope American Christians remmeber and work hard to keep our beautiful heritage. God bless! |

Dear CDBJ, My understanding is the USA was founded as a Christian nation and on the Biblical principles. It has been an American tradition to elect people who love God and do His will. So, pastors gave Christians so-called "election sermons" and evaluated candidates from the Biblical views. So, it is sad that the church is not involved in elections any more, setting aside politics as a non-Christian matter or accepting the secluar views that the candidate's capabilities are more important than his/her godly character. It is also sad that we prison ourselves to the Bible, ignoring how to live as salt and light to the world, which requires us to critically think everything (including politics) from the Biblical views. For example, the Bible implies AntiChrist will appear as a political figure. If we exclude politics from the Christian life, it is like we don't mind AntiChrist's appearance. I don't see what's wrong with my question on who is the right person for Christians to vote for in this forum. I wanted to see how the Bible, our ultimate life standards, can be applied to the presidential election. I hope we live out a Christian life in every aspect of our daily life issue. |
