41 | Philippians 2:12 - Fear and trembling | Matt 22:14 | tgc | 127497
AHN, There are many ideals running through this post first understand this you are correct when you make the statement that church membership will not get one into Heaven. Only coming to Jesus Christ in humblr repentance confesing your sins to Him and asking Him to forgive your sin then accepting Him as Lord of your life will get you or anyone elese to Heaven. As far as predestination is concerned there can be no real debate on if God predestines or not He does. The question is on what bsases does He predestine. I would personally argue that it is on His foreknowledge of what choices an indivual will make. There are many who would disagree with me on this and I am sure you will hear from them. With that said let us look to the scriptures You quoted much from the book of John in your post so we will begin there. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; John 3:15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:14-18 NASB Note that twicw in this short passage the word whosoever is used "whosoever belives will be saved" sso to me that makes it clear everybody gets a chance at salvation. So I would say that those who answer the call of Christ are the elect. As I said before this is based on His foreknowledge. To show this point lets look at thebook of Romans chapter 8:28-30 from the NKJV 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined [to be] conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified Here Paul gives us a list of what God does for the beliver and if you notice it all starts with those He foreknew. The one point you are 100 percent correct on is there is nothing we can do to get right with God only the finished work of Christ in attonement can put anyone right with God and then through a foreign rightousness not of our own but through Christ Jesus. As to Romans 9:15 God promises that He will have mercy on all who come to Him in the rightousness of His Son Jesus Christ. For a reference read Romans chapter 8. ]As for church attendence that has been a hotly debated topic the last few days on another thread that has also been restricted but in the thread Edb makes some great points concerning this topic I would encourage you to check them out for yourself. I can not come to agree with the last part of your post about being in church is a way to keep from being saved on this I would encourage you to much prayer and to seek out a healthy well balanced church to attend. We all need that support structure in our lives as belivers. Although some may argue there is no such thing as a lone ranger christan. I hope this helps. In The Love Of Christ, tgc |

43 | Hebrews 6:4 -Am I a useless cause? | John 11:25 | tgc | 121013
Dear Friend, part one Let me refer you to just a few verses thar might help you. The first is John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that WHOSOEVER belives in Him should not parish but have everlasting life. Look at the capitalized word whosoever and ask yourself what does this word mean. Very plainly it means that anyone who comes to Christ wil be saved. Let us look a little deeper at this. From here we will go to the book of Romans chapter 3:23"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." What is the Glory of God? It is Jesus Christ or absoulet perfection. Needless to say all of us fall short at this point.Romans 6:23 "For the wagesof sin is death but thegift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." We have alraedy established the fact that all have sinned now we see the result of that sin death. An important note here is that there are two kinds of death there is spiritiual and physical. Physical death is something we are all anquainted with So what is spiritual death well that is seperation from God. But if we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior that wall of death is broken down and we can be with God. Romans 10: 9-10 " that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and belivein your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved. For with the heart one belives unto rightousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Here the important question is what does the scripture mean when it refers to the heart? What I have come to believe is that the heart of man is that part of man that is created in the image of God. There are four parts to this the intellect the emotion the soul andthe free will. |

44 | Hebrews 6:4 -Am I a useless cause? | John 11:25 | tgc | 121015
Dear Friend part 2, Through these four parts God works with us to draw us to Him. With the intellect we can hear Gods word and understand the ramifications. Through the emotions we can feel conviction. With our free will we choose how we respond. Of course the soul is that part of us that lives on after the body has died awaiting resurrection. If you can come to grip with these truths and come to the point that you relize that there is nothing you can do about your sin only Christ can handle that then confess this to Him and accept the free gift He has for you making Him Lord of your life then the salvation issue is settled. As for falling away and losing your salvation that is not going to happen brcause your salvation i not based on you it is based on Christ finished work ion the cross. For an example of this look at the life of Peter one minute he is being patted on the back by Jesus the next Jesus is calling him satan. Mat. 16:13-16 and Mat.16:22-23 Also remember that Peter is the one who denied Christ three timesMat. 26:69-75 , but look at how the resurrected Christ restores him John 21: 15-19. The only way you are a hopless cause is if you reject Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life. please see part 3 |

45 | Hebrews 6:4 -Am I a useless cause? | John 11:25 | tgc | 121016
Dear friend part 3, Jesus Himself said that the only unforgiveable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. That is a life of continually rejecting the convicting power of the Holy Spirit in your life and rejecting the finished work of Jesus on the cross. You are not hopeless just go to Christ in repentance that is turning awy from your sin and to Christ make Him the Lord of your life and seek daily to take up your cross and foloe Him. I do not pretend that this is easy but if you seek a relationship with Christ through His Word and get hooked up with a healthy well balanced church where you can experience the love of Christ in pratical way you can find hope. I sincerley hope this will help and I want you to know I will be holding you up in prayer. In the love of Christ, tgc |

46 | Holy Spirit leaving the earth? | 1 Cor 6:19 | tgc | 120564
Kecia, In answering your question, I believe we should look at 1Thessalonians 4:13 through 5:11: "4:13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive [and] remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others [do,] but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and [as] a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing." NewKingJamesVersion Throught the rest of this letter, Paul wraps things up in his conclusion. However, immediately as he starts his second letter ( 2Thess), Paul picks up right away with God's final judgement, God's glory and the great apostasy, or falling away. This leads us to to 2Thess. 2:7; "For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains [will do so] until He is taken out of the way." NKJV This verse falls within a long discussion of the end time and what will happen. That is why I felt it is important to set this context. The "He" in this verse is clearly the Holy Spirit and it is my belief that at this time in history the rapture of the Church marks the end of the Holy Spirit's work on earth; and that those who come to Christ thereafter will be in the same situation as the Old Testament believers in that they will not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We see the Holy Spirit's everyday work begin at Pentecost and end with the rapture of the Church. I don't mean that the Old Testament beleivers were never indwelled by the Holy Spirit, they were. But these were exceptions to the general rule. And those indwellings were for limited periods of time and for a specific purpose. Samson is just one example. His strength would come when the Spiriut of God fell on him. Yes, the Holy Spirit will leave this earth when Christ raptures His Church. At that time, the age of grace when end and the the tribulation period will begin. Evil will run rampant, good will be called bad, bad will be called good. Persons responded to the Gospel message will be without the indwelling Holy Spirit and many will pay for their belief with their lives. When the hour is darkest and things look like they cannot be any worse, Christ Himself will return aas the Lion of Judah, bringing His Church with Him to destroy all evil and set up His Kingdom. 47 | Acts of persecution why was recount this | Gal 1:13 | tgc | 124115
Tan Flipper, To find the answer to this you have to back up to the begining of the chapter and look at what Paul is addressing. In this letter Paul is adressing there are people who have come into the church of the Galatians preaching a return to the law rather than grace a well as questioning Paul's authority as an aposel. So what Paul is doing is reasserting the doctrin of grace and his apostleship. He is laying the foundation for the teachings to come in this letter. I would encourage an indepth study of this book for it really brings light to living the Christan Life in the grace of our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Hope this helps. 48 | God is one | Gal 4:4 | tgc | 121708
ucmenew, Thank about the sitting God is in when He is making this statement. Who is He talking to? By using the plural He is already starting to reveal the Trinity. Another example of this occurs in Gen. 1-1 where the word for God is Elohim which is in thr plural form of theoriginal lanuage. However plural here denotes three or more for in the original lanuage there is singular, dual and plural forms of words. It is amazing howgreat of God we serve and how much He loves us and wants us to know that He starts from verse 1 to revile Himself to us. However I would have to respectfully disagree with the Mary part of some of the previous answers. When God speaks of His image He is talking about those attributes of God that all of us have. There are four of these the soul, the emotions, the free will or ability to choose and a soul. This passage is intended to open up the teaching of the Trinity and to reveal the fact we are created in God's image. In Christ Love, tgc |

49 | How do overcome your fear? | Phil 4:6 | tgc | 128021
Godchaser1, You have been given some excellent answers thus far, but let me add this. The command fear not is given well over 100 times within scripture. For something to be repeated this many times God has to feel that it is a very important topic and wishes to give us His assurence. As has already been said we over come fear by beliving God that is taking God at His word. You see that is the foundation of the whole Christan faith that we belive God. We belive Him for our salvation and base our eternal destiny on this belief. So why don't we belive Him for His guidence through this life. You see overcoming fear has nothing to do with positively confessing scripture or anything elese it is all about getting into God's living Word and having a close personal relationship with Him so that through HIm and His Holy Spirit we can believe His word and through that overcome this world and all it throws at us. In short our whole relationship and fellowship with Christ is based on us taking Him at His word. As DBR has said perfect love cast out all fear and God has that perfect love for us just look to the cross for the evidence He kept His word then and will now we just have to learn to belive it. Hope this helps. In The Love Of Christ, tgc |

50 | What is the apostacy? | 2 Thess 2:3 | tgc | 121498
hello Rowdy, I hope thiswill be of some help in Jude verse 5 apostates are equatedto those who came out Egypt butstill did not believe in God. In verses 7-8 Jude speaks tothe issue of homosexuality as being apostate as waell a those who reject authority and speak evil of dignitaries. In verse 16 he addresses grumblers complainers and those walking after their own lust as being apostate. Now if we take the context of the whole book concerns these people inside the church. Hope this is what you arelooking for . your friend in Christ, tgc |

51 | Does one wife equal first and last wife? | 1 Tim 3:2 | tgc | 124117
bluemystic338, Where you a Christan when these events took place or did you come to faith after the fact? I fully belive the answer to your question is dependent on the answer to this question. If you where saved when you married and knew your wife was an unbeliver then you vilolated God Word by marring her however if you came to faith after the marriage and she refused the faith and left the marriage and you have done all that you can to reconcile the marriage and she refuses then you are free to go on with your life. As to can you be a preacher that is between you and God. I will give you the advice an old pastor gave me when I was wrestleing with my call to the ministry if you can do anything elese and have peace with God do not preach, but if you try and continues to convict your heart look for confirmation of your call once you have go foward. 53 | The husband of only one wife? | Titus 1:6 | tgc | 124120
You have ask a multiple part question so let me break it down as I offer my answer. First husband of one wife. Ther are basically two different views of this one that it means only one wife for a lifetime and that if you have ever been divorced that you are disqualified from being a pastor. The other view is that if you look at the culture that Paul was writting into having many wives at the same time was very popular and the cultural norm and Paul was speaking out against this. I will not offer my personal view on this here but rather challenge you to seek out your answer in prayer and study. Again on the second part of your question there are two major views one is that it makes no difference at all if you are divorced you can not be a pastor, the other is that whatever you did before you where a Christan God wiped away aat the moment of your salvation and you became as scripture says a new creation. Here I will offer my view I adhere to the latter view that God wipes the slate clean. As far as remarriage after the death of a spouse I know of no place in the Bible that prohibits this. In certain cases Paul even encourages it. No there is no mandate that a pastor can not remarry if his wife dies. Now for your last question if a serving pastor is divorced while in the ministry yes he should step down from his position. For the family was created before the church and actually takes priority over the church and if your family is falling apart your ability to minister is effectually destroyed and you could bring great harm and divison to the church. I would encourage you to study the scripture for your final answer to thes questions they are very emotionally debated within the church today I hope I have been able to offer a little help to you. 54 | degrees of faith?? | Heb 10:34 | tgc | 127262
I would only offer this the words of our great Lord , Savior, and God Jesus Christ. (NKJV) Matthew 6:1 "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. 5 " And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who [is] in the secret [place;] and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 "And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen [do.] For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as [it is] in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. The answer would be to pray for God's perfect will in any given situation. This can be clearly seen in Matthew 26:37-44 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me." 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You [will."] 40 Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? 41 "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak." 42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done." 43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Her we clearly see the principels from chapter 6 lived out in Jesus praying for the Father's will to done.Hope this helps. In The Love Of Christ, Tom tgc |
