41 | Difference in believing? | James 2:19 | prazn | 86906
Greetings! The following scripture comes to mind, in response to your question. In it, James (under the influence of the Holy Spirit) tells us that demons believe in God. However, we know that demons do not serve our Lord. By comparison, those of us who believe God (like Abraham) demonstrate our belief by what we do in response to His Word. James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. James 2:18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. James 2:20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? James 2:22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. This scripture is not talking about a "works" motivated mindset, in the sense of how many hours each day I am compelled to spend in prayer or in helping at a homeless shelter, for example. Notice that Abraham did not "do" anything, except believe that the Lord was able to revive his son, had Abraham struck the fatal blow. Consequently, in response to his belief, he obeyed the Lord's command to him. If we believe God, we will obey Him. |

42 | Why can God can love the world, not us? | John 3:16 | prazn | 86458
Let's say that you are married to an alcoholic husband, who also happens to be abusive. Suppose that your husband has been so abusive that he's tried to take your life, on several occasions. You still love him, but you've got little children and, for their sake, you flee. You also leave a note, telling the abusive husband that you love him, but cannot live with him until he commits to stop drinking and abusing you. Now imagine that your mom or dad, two people who say they love you, take sides with your abusive husband, and insist that you return to him, along with your little ones. Can they possibly love you, as their daughter, if they would allow you and their grandchildren to return to a situation that could get all of you killed? God loves us, but He is holy and He cannot tolerate sin. John 3:16 makes it very clear that those who do not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, by believing in Him, will perish. By loving the world, you are aligning yourself with sin (what God hates) and you will perish, with the world (i.e., those who reject Jesus). The above scenario, may have been a pretty lousy analogy, but I pray that your question has been answered. God bless you! |

43 | what does the parable in Luke 16:1 mean? | Luke 16:1 | prazn | 86330
It took a couple of years before the Holy Spirit revealed this one to me. The revelation that I received, is that the "shrewed manager" told his boss's customers to write a lower amount, than they really owed, on their bills. He told them to do this so that he might find favor with them once his boss fired him. The best way to explain this parable for its spiritual meaning is to refer to the Lord's prayer. Jesus gave us a model prayer, which begins "Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name..." The prayer continues, "and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors". We are blessed of the Lord when we forgive others their transgressions against us. When we forgive those who hurt us, and maintain our friendship with them, despite what they have done to offend us, we just might keep our friend. What's more, the Lord (the Boss) will, Himself, forgive us when we hurt others because we have forgiven those who have wronged us. Hope this makes sense to you. |

44 | Why does Paul's imprisonment lessen fear | Phil 1:14 | prazn | 86328
Paul, as well as other believers, have less fear because we trust in our Lord. God is sovereign. He has promised, all who believe in Him, eternal life. Since we do not fear death, what else on this earth can we possibly fear. We know the Creator of the universe; what can man do to us? What's more, as Paul so eloquently wrote: Rom 8:35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Rom 8:36 Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." Rom 8:37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Rom 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, Rom 8:39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. |

45 | What did Thomas do | John 20:25 | prazn | 86327
Ever heard the term "doubting Thomas"? Thomas was one of the original 12 disciples. He continually doubted or was pessimistic about events as they unfolded in Jesus' ministry. For example, when Jesus learned that his friend Lazarus had died (or "fallen asleep") he suggested to the disciples that they return to Judea. Thomas was the only one of the twelve who expressed doubts that Jesus would escape death if He went to Judea. Thomas also expected that he and and the others would die, if they went with Jesus: John 11:7 Then after this He *said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." John 11:8 The disciples *said to Him, "Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone You, and are You going there again?" John 11:11 This He said, and after that He *said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep." John 11:12 The disciples then said to Him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover." John 11:13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep. John 11:14 So Jesus then said to them plainly, "Lazarus is dead, John 11:15 and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let us go to him." John 11:16 Therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, so that we may die with Him." Most notably, Thomas doubted that Jesus had been resurrected, even after the others told him that they had seen Him themselves: John 20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. John 20:25 So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." If you want to know more about Thomas, I encourage you to do a word search on "Thomas", on this website. God bless you! |

46 | Can someone explain sanctifacation | NT general Archive 1 | prazn | 86313
The following is what has been revealed to me through my study of the Scriptures, my experience, and the writings of other saints: Sanctification is a process in which we (believers) are freed from the POWER of sin. The Bible says, in 2 Thess 2:13: "But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth." According to Scripture there are three "tenses" of salvation. 2 Cor 1:9-10 says: ...trust in... God...who DELIVERED us from so great a peril of death, and WILL DELIVER us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He WILL YET DELIVER us..." That is to say, "I AM saved, I AM BEING saved, and I WILL BE saved." Sanctification is the "I AM BEING saved" part of the salvation process. When we are saved, we are saved from the PENALTY of sin and are positionally righteous in the sight of God. Romans 5:8-10 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:4: "...He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust." Hence, our salvation will not be completed (i.e., we will not be saved from the PRESENCE of sin) until we have been perfected and our bodies glorified, which won't happen until the Lord's return. Hope this wasn't too confusing. |

47 | From did God has come? | John 1:1 | prazn | 86304
Hi Esther, From my previous post, you should now know that God has always existed. No being created Him. He lives and reigns in Heaven. He came from heaven to earth 2000 years ago, as a man named Jesus Christ (the Son of God). This is what the Bible says about Jesus Christ: John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God. John 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. Jesus will come back to this earth again, very soon, to judge mankind. Have you asked Him to be your Lord and Savior? I pray that you will, if you have not! God bless you! |

48 | From where did God has come? | Gen 1:1 | prazn | 86300
"In the beginning GOD..." God is the pre-existent One. The eternal One. He had no beginning and He has no end. He proclaims that He is the great "I AM"; not the "I was" or the "I will be", but "I AM". He has always existed. He exists. And He will always exist. The good news is that we flawed human beings can always exist with Him, when we believe that Jesus Christ died on a 2000 years ago to save mankind from the wrath of Almighty God. Jesus took the punishment that you and I deserved. He remained in the grave for three days and rose again on the third day. He lives! And He reigns in heaven and will return for those who have confessed that He (Jesus) is Lord. Do you believe in Jesus, my friend? He died for you and me, because He loves us. "For God so loved the WORLD that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe in Him, would not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. If you believe that Jesus died to save you from the wrath of God, and you haven't already done so, I beg you to ask Him to save you, so that you will live forever in heaven with Him and everyone else who believes in Him. Simply say, "Dear Heavenly Father, I am a sinner. I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and that He rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart. I want you to be my Lord and my Savior. Amen." If you prayed this prayer, won't you please post a note in this forum, so that all of us (your brothers and sisters in the Lord) can rejoice? God bless you! |

49 | How to praise God and why? | Ps 7:17 | prazn | 86298
We praise God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and of every living creature (that includes you and me), because of His goodness to us. Because of His mercy to us. Since, He is our Creator, He does not have to let any one of us live. In fact, the Bible (the Word of God) declares: Ps 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. Ps 14:2 The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. Ps 14:3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one." The fact that God allows man to remain on the earth is reason to praise Him. The fact that you and I are still breathing is reason to praise Him. How do we praise Him? By thanking Him for every single good thing in our life (e.g., our spouse, our child(ren), our friends, our job, our home, our car, our health, our strength, etc.). We thank Him for the beauty of this earth, which He created for the enjoyment of man. Finally, the ultimate way to praise the Lord is to give Him our lives, because He gave His life for all of us, when He died on a cross 2000 years ago. God bless you! |

50 | God using evil spirits? | 1 Sam 16:14 | prazn | 86295
During this morning's devotion, I learned that spirits work in human agents as God directs or allows: 2 Chr 18:19 "The LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab king of Israel to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said this while another said that. 2 Chr 18:20 "Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.' And the LORD said to him, 'How?' 2 Chr 18:21 "He said, 'I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' Then He said, 'You are to entice him and prevail also. Go and do so.' 2 Chr 18:22 "Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of these your prophets, for the LORD has proclaimed disaster against you." If the Lord can put a deceiving spirit into a man's mouth, why couldn't He likewise use evil spirits. And, just as the Father has all power, likewise the Son (who is one with the Father): Eph 1:20-23 "...He raised Him [Christ] from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Not only are the spirits subject to the authority of God the Father and God the Son, but to the followers of the Lord, as well. Luke 10:17-20 states, "The seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.' And He said to them, 'I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.'" However, it's not clear, from this passage, that our authority (in Jesus' name) extends beyond merely casting evil spirits out of a human host. Have a blessed day! |

51 | Help explaining John 16:19-33 | John 16:19 | prazn | 86213
John 16:19 Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, "Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me'? John 16:20 "Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy. I believe that the Lord was speaking here of His imminent crucifixion (the reason that the apostles would grieve) and His resurrection (the reason that the apostles would rejoice). John 16:21 "Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. I believe that our Lord was speaking here about His own anguish at having to go to the cross. You'll recall His prayer to the Father in the garden of Gethsemane: Matt 26:39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." Also Luke 22:44 records that our Lord was in such anguish that He sweated drops of blood, which dripped to the ground. However, as recorded in Hebrews 12:2, Jesus, like a woman in childbirth, "for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." John 16:22 "Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. John 16:23 "In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. John 16:24 "Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full. John 16:25 "These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. I believe that our Lord is speaking here of His Holy Spirit, which came into the world after His ascension into heaven. 1 Cor 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 1 Cor 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 1 Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 1 Cor 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. John 16:26 "In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; John 16:27 for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father. John 16:28 "I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and going to the Father." John 16:29 His disciples *said, "Lo, now You are speaking plainly and are not using a figure of speech. John 16:30 "Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we believe that You came from God." John 16:31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? John 16:32 "Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." Our Lord has told us that, in this world, we will face tribulation, but we re to exult (rejoice) in our tribulations "... knowing that tribulation brings about perrseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:3-5 I didn't comment on every verse, assuming them to be self-explanatory. However, if the Lord has not revealed the meaning of these verses to you, I will share what He has revealed to me and/or other believers. God bless! |

52 | 1 John 5:16-17 | 1 John 5:16 | prazn | 86070
"Sin" is rebellion against God (or willful disobedience). Take Adam and Eve, for example. God gave them one commandment. But, they disobeyed and as a result of their sin, they lost the close fellowship with God that they once enjoyed (i.e., spiritual death). God is Spirit. Human beings can only communicate with God through our spirits, which are only made alive when we have received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Apparently, there are sins which result in "spiritual" death. If we continually neglect our relationship with our Lord (i.e., fail to regularly read His word and pray), "spiritual" death is a certainty. Also, if we fail to consistently confess our sins to the Lord, we cannot expect to maintain a healthy or close communion with the Lord. Hope this helps. |

53 | Must Christians keep the Sabbath today? | Ex 20:8 | prazn | 86045
JESUS is our Sabbath: Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. Heb 4:4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS"; Heb 4:5 and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST." Heb 4:6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, Heb 4:7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. Heb 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Heb 4:11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. Jesus says, Matt 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST. Matt 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. Matt 11:30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." |

54 | Friends smoking cigars, bad or not? | Rom 14:21 | prazn | 86044
Good morning, Extol_Him! The following Scripture may shed some light on your situation: Rom 14:1 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. Rom 14:2 One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. Rom 14:3 The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. Rom 14:4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. Rom 14:5 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. Rom 14:6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God. Rom 14:7 For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; Rom 14:8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. Rom 14:9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. Rom 14:10 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. Rom 14:11 For it is written, "AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD." Rom 14:12 So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. Rom 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. Rom 14:14 I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Rom 14:15 For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. Rom 14:16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rom 14:18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. Rom 14:19 So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. Rom 14:20 Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense. Rom 14:21 It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles. Rom 14:22 The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. Rom 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin. Hope this helps. |

55 | How come he couln't go back? | Mark 8:26 | prazn | 85990
Well, my friend, the Lord obviously wanted your question answered. The following is excerpted from a book entitled, Adventuring Through the Bible: Matthew, Mark and Luke, by Ray C. Stedman. "Mark 8:22-26 goes on to record a very significant act of our Lord: Mark 8:22 And they *came to Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to touch him. Mark 8:23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, "Do you see anything?" Mark 8:24 And he looked up and said, "I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around." Mark 8:25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. Mark 8:26 And He sent him to his home, saying, "Do not even enter the village." Notice the the setting of this story--the village of Bethsaida. Matthew describes Bethsaida as one of those cities Jesus had pronounced judgement upon, saying, Matt 11:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Here is a city that has rejected our Lord's ministry and His person, and He will not allow any further testimony to go on in that city. He led the blind man out before He healed him. This is the only case where our Lord did not see an instantaneous, complete healing take place the first time He spoke. When the healing was complete, He would not even allow the healed man to go back into the village, for Bethsaida was a village under God's judgement for having rejected the ministry of the Servant of God." Wonder of wonders, I received this "Complimentary Study Resource" in the mail, several minutes ago. The book is published by RBC Ministries and can be ordered online at www.dhp.org/adventuring. After this happened, I could not help but to break into a chorus of "How Great Thou Art!" Stay blessed, dear one! |

Please consider asking your Pastor, or other Christian leader, about participating in a Bible study at your local church. If this is not possible. There are numerous Bible studies that you can purchase that will help you to dig into the Word of God. Ask someone at your local Christian bookstore to recommend a good Bible study workbook that will help you to study the book of Genesis, on your own. Or, if you don't have a Christian bookstore in your town, check out these sites for good Bible studies: Navpress.com, backtothebible.org, or rbc.org (many of their Bible studies are free), to mention a few. May I recommend two excellent Bible studies which focus on the patriarchs of the faith, mentioned in Genesis. One workbook is entitled, Following God: Life Principles from the Old Testament. The workbook is authored by Wayne Barber. If you can't find it at your local Christian bookstore, you may want to consider ordering it online at www.ChristianBooks.com. Another excellent Bible study workbook is entitled, Created to be God's Friend. It is written by Henry T. Blackaby. This workbook focuses on Abraham and helps you to understand how God works in the lives of His people. Both workbooks may help to get you started in learning how to study and apply God's word to your life. Hope this helps... God bless you. |
