44 | Why Jesus die And Us asleep | 2 Cor 5:21 | hopalong | 200046
DeardrewBoy, Good question! Jesus died so that we would not have to die.Death is the penalty for sin. 2 Cor 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus suffered death so that we would not have to suffer it ourselves. Hopalong |

45 | INVITATION | NT general | hopalong | 199957
Dear sqkeener, I noticed that you took exception to the fact that there was no invitation at the end of of the service. Was the gospel proclaimed? Was Christ glorified? If so the Holy Spirit was moving in the hearts of the congregation. I did a search on "Altar Call" and failed to find it in the New Testament. "What is often shocking to many who use the modern invitation system is that the altar call is just that modern. The practice, although widespread, is a very new phenomenon in the Christian church. For nearly nineteen centuries no one had ever heard of the practice. Such well known evangelists as George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, and even John Wesley had never even heard of such a custom. And Charles Spurgeon, that passionate winner of souls par excellence, although well acquainted with the practice, firmly refused to adopt it and even criticized it severely." Fred G. 46 | Jesus was a very good man | John 3:16 | hopalong | 199953
I would give Him the Good News and pray that God the Holy Spirit would bring to the man the Gift of regeneration. 1 Cor 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 1 Cor 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 47 | choosing a church? | John 15:5 | hopalong | 199594
First and foremost I would pray for God's leading...John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. May God grant your prayer by leading you to a church that preaches Christ, and Him crucified. A church that is founded in Holy Writ and teaches it faithfully to the glory of God. God bless, Hopalong |

57 | Reconciling Eph 2:8-9, with Rom 2:6-7. | Rom 2:1 | hopalong | 190232
Dear Old pilgrim, I believe that Paul has the church as a whole in mind. All churches are composed of those who are truly saved and those who merely think that they are saved. "by there fruit you will know them." It appears that the apostle is issuing a warning aimed at correcting those who ignore the fact that it is true repentance which leads to sanctification. Examine yourself is the message to all. Hopalong |

58 | Who are the "sons of God" in Genesis 6? | Gen 6:2 | hopalong | 189152
Friend... The synopsis of Genesis chapter 6, is that the Sons of God took the daughters of men to wife. They were believers who disobeyed God and went after the unsaved women who looked good, and in turn they brought forth unsaved seed who corrupted the earth so that there was nothing but evil continually. And God saw what they had done and sent the flood to wipe out the wickedness. And all perished except Noah and His. let that be a lesson to all of us. We must not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever, for that will cause terrible repercussions down the road. Unfortunately, this is "Exactly" what is happening today. Not only with believers going after, and marrying unbelievers literally, but also spiritually as the church is unequally yoking themselves with unbelievers. They are making all kinds of excuses for their actions, and they just don't realize what this error will bring upon the Church. Just as it did when Israel went after the women and men of the heathen nations around her. These turned them to false Gods and abominations. Slowly but surely (like a creeping vine or spreading cancer) it became their destruction. I speak out about this, but somehow, this just doesn't seem important to the Church today. I sadly say, "we learn from history, ..that we do not learn from History." I know this is as it must be, but my earnest Prayer is that some (though few that must be), will by Grace of God begin to learn from History. ..Bible History. Peace,(Tony Warren) I agree with tony Warrens conclusion for the following reason: it is based on Scipture alone. Let the Bible interpret the Bible. Throughout the old and new Testaments "sons of God is" are believers! |

59 | How can we be sure we are right? | 1 Tim 6:3 | hopalong | 188136
Hi M, you ask... 1.Is there therefore only gospel/doctrine that we should abide in? Ans: the doctrine that is found between the covers of your Bible! That doctrine and that doctrine alone! 2. With so many doctrines/denominations, all professing to be right, how can we be sure that we are in Gods will/doctrine/gospel? By checking out the Scriptural foundation which the denomination provides. Praise God for, has not left us alone, but has endowed us with the gift of Holy Spirit. Gen 40:8 Then they said to him, "We have had a dream and there is no one to interpret it." Then Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? PRAY! Pray without ceasing, not relying on our own ability but on He that has the power to enlighten our blind eyes, and to show us the magnificent beauty and truth which He has blessed us to understand. God bless, Hopalong PS: I don't know of any truly "christian" denomination that proclaims that they are infallible in their interpretation. |
