Dear jhjr40504, Are you asking homework questions? Please read the TOU before posting as the forum is not designed to answer homework questions. However, concerning your questions, please read Matthew chapter 5 for Q1. I don't know what do you mean by serenity prayer, but I would recommend you read Psalm where David has written a lot of prayers worth our learning. Shalom Azure |

46 | Explain Matthew 6:6 | Matt 6:6 | azurelaw | 240046
Dear Claudia, Welcome to the forum. Please read the chapter in context. Jesus was teaching His followers not to imitate those hypocrites (especially the Pharisees) who concern only on the outward behaviour of showing self-righteousness for gaining praise and admiration of others. No matter your deeds are for charity or spirituality, God values the heart not the outward appearances. You will see that Jesus sometimes uses rhetoric expression to emphasize the message of His teaching. This is one of those many examples. You may also find more in chapter 5. Shalom Azure |

47 | loneliness | Job 42:5 | azurelaw | 239494
Dear Onita, Welcome to the forum. The first book comes to mind is the Book of Job. I would also suggest you read Psalm where King David expressed his loneliness, conviction of his own sin and long for God's presence, forgiveness, grace and help. Shalom Azure |

48 | sin for men to lay with other men New Te | Rom 1:26 | azurelaw | 238990
Dear cornsilk, Please read Romans chapter 1 and Jude 1:7. Though there is no specific wordings of men lay with men or nowadays we call homosexuality, the concept is clear. You may also refer to OT Leviticus 18:22. We have to also bear in mind that NT did not exist in the time of Paul or the writer of Jude, what they have in mind should be the teachings in the OT. Shalom Azure |

51 | does someone know what it means. | 2 John | azurelaw | 238984
Dear Julie, John started this chapter with blessing emphasising on the truth that he wanted the readers to be mindful. As you may read through the whole chapter, you will find that while John urged them to love one another, this commandment should be exercised in truth, for Christ is the Truth (John 14:6). Love that exercised in truth is not "blind love" (see verse 10). From the context, John worried about the readers be deceived by false teaching(verse 7-11) and led away to reject the teaching that Christ came in flesh. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure |

53 | Is being drunk a sin? | 1 Cor 6:10 | azurelaw | 238680
Dear Ichoose, Welcome to the forum. Of course it is not an appropriate answer to the question, because Eph 8:15 does not exist :-) I think you meant Eph 5:18 which on the contrary a teaching of Paul's about pursuing holiness. I would also suggest another verse concerning the problem of drunkenness - 1 cor 6:10. Shalom Azure |

55 | Can I use 1kings 3:9 to refer to myself? | Heb 5:14 | azurelaw | 238366
Dear bluegrassbrown, Welcome to the forum. We should be careful not to generate our doctrines from narratives for the context and historical characters varied. I think there are some scriptures from the New Testament (teach about discernment) answer directly to your question concerning discernment. Hebrew 5:14 and Phil 1:9 By the way, in the Book of John, chapter 14, Jesus said He has sent us the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of truth) to teach us all things. Thus He encourages us to pray and ask the Father for the wisdom. Shalom Azure |

59 | father without a job | 1 Tim 5:8 | azurelaw | 238153
Dear berry, I have to agree with EdB that scriptures have no specific answer to your question except a number of it deals with laziness as EdB has quoted. However, since the world is so much complicated, there is always situation that the father is forced to be unemployed and unable to get a job or serve as food provider and the burden could be on the wife shoulders. The couple should discuss how to plan their family instead. I met a Christian couples who are good example. They have two boys and one is diagnosed Epilepsy. Since the mother has a much secure job, the father decided to stay home for child caring. Apart from taking good care of his children (including Bible teaching), the father has participated in some charity volunteer, led Bible study group, not ceasing to pray for their children. Now, the boy has much improved and the father is back to the workplace. He has never lost his leading status/role at home. I see how they have been trusting God and God's blessings has never ceased to pour onto them. "...whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31b) Shalom Azure |

60 | how many will go to heaven | Matt 7:13 | azurelaw | 238111
Dear Mokava, Welcome to the forum. The Bible does say how many will go to heaven (Mat 7:13 indicates that not all will go to heaven and many will perish too), but Jesus already ensured us that we (believers) are His sheep given by God and no one is able to snatch us away from Him (John 10:27-30). May you be blessed in your faith. Shalom Azure |
