41 | Uriah the Hittite in Christ's lineage? | Matt 1:6 | EdB | 243010
David fathered Solomon through an adulterous affair with Bathsheba. Uriah was alive at the time she became pregnant, it was not a case of a brother giving his dead brother's wife a child, it was clearly adultery. Uriah is mentioned to show God grace against a sinner (David). Even a sinner can be in the lineage of Christ. There were still consequences to David's sin but God allowed David to be in the very honored position of being in the lineage of Jesus. God did not wink or overlook the sin of adultery as evident by all the happened to David and his family after it occurred. In fact Bathsheba's grandfather tried to over throw David, in attempt to get even with David for the disgrace to the family. 2 Sam. 16-17 |

I think the best answer to this thread was already given. Doc in his first response to this thread said, " As Romans 1 clearly explains, it is not truth that men seek, rather it is justification to avoid being obligated to the Creator." That answers the question. |

43 | Matthew 27:3 Question | Gen 32:12 | EdB | 242965
The amplified bible is very closely likened to a study bible or commentary. In that they contain the authors opinion rather than scriptural fact. While the opinion may be 100 percent correct there is no way to tell this side of heaven. Whatever the reason scripture tells us Judas tried to undo what he had done. Remorse, guilt, fear of consequence, realization that Jesus was the Son of God. We don't know, but God does. |

44 | Help me understand the bible | Genesis | EdB | 242905
First Welcome to the Forum! Adien22 I think you confuse execution with murder. While both end lives, murder is the unwarranted taking of a life. An execution is the carrying out of a sentence of death. If you think about it we are all under that sentence because of the sin that entered into this world, we must all physically die and one day should the Lord tarry we all will. However if we have salvation we will continue to live with Jesus in heaven. That said. Yes God did order various executions, all were just. For God is just. We may not always understand or see the justice of God's actions but we must remember we do not always have all the facts. As to the incident you mentioned of the children of Israel rebelling against God and trying to create their own god. They did know what they were doing. The living and true God had walked before them and brought them out of the hands of Pharaoh, yet instead of worshipping him they tried to create a god from creation to worship. It wasn't about an the idol it was about their deciding they could create a God. It was rebellion and God carried out the sentence of death upon them |

45 | How to vote Biblically | Bible general | EdB | 242881
Ideally our next president would be a Christian and an experienced leader. That said many people that claim leadership abilities and or Christianity often are neither. Scripture tells us leaders are appointed by God, therefore if we want to vote for God's man we should seek God's leading. Too often God's people try to make decisions based on human reasoning instead of seeking God's leading. Abraham and Haggar is a perfect example of trying to do what God said He would accomplish. My answer to your question would be to seek God's leading to who you should vote for. If every Christian voted and voted as directed by God we would have Godly leadership. |

47 | Whose glory is being sought? | 1 Sam 4:3 | EdB | 242867
I agree that the people's motives were wrong. Instead of seeking God using their own wisdom instead they came up with a plan. Much like Abraham and Sarah with Haggar. But also God's judgement fell on Eli and his two son through this. I suspect the sons played a part in the decision to run ahead of God. When the u righteous try to use righteousness for their gain the results are not good. How many today try to fool God expounding great soundings reasons for their desire when in fact they are after personal gain. |

48 | What went wrong? | 1 Sam 4:3 | EdB | 242865
Eli the chief priest had two sons that sinned and Eli turned a blind eye to their sin. Read the first 3 chapter of 1 Samuel and you will understand. Also note what God said and what man decided to do on their own. You will see the answer. |

50 | how many did God forgive the Israelites | Jer 32:30 | EdB | 242856
Not sure man could number the times Israel strayed from God. Read Jeremiah 32:30-35 As a nation they sinned during the Exodus, during Joshua leadership, during the Judges, during the Kings, during the prophets and countless times in between. Surfice to say Israel enjoyed God's patience and grace from Abraham to the modern day.! |

52 | Books of Wisdom | Bible general | EdB | 242843
JohnC your question is a little hard to answer as stated. There is a book called the Book of Wisdom Or The Wisdom of Solomon. And there are books that are grouped as books of Wisdom in the Bible being the Books Of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song or Songs (Song of Solomon). Then there is a set of books commonly called the Apocrypha. These are books included in Septuagint but viewed as non inspired books. There is also a set of books called the Deuterocanonical books which include many of the books of the Apocrypha and add a few that are held to by the Catholic and Russian Orthodox church. The problem with the Book of Wisdom Or Wisdom of Solomon is one of authorship. It suggests it was written by David's son Solomon but is thought to have been written much later than he lived. Discussions on Apocryphal and Deuterocanonical books has occurred many times on this forum so do a search for those two keywords to get more info. Most books that did not make the canon for the Bible were books that did not exist when the canon was formed, had questionable authorship, were not included in the Old Testament, or had known contradictions of teaching. There are many books now on the market that claim to be this book or that book but many appear to be fakes written long after the time they claim, written by unknown men, or deny the deity of God. I hope this helps. If you are talking about one book or one particular group of books identify the book or particular group and we can discuss this further. |

57 | can a jew in the old testament go to hea | Acts 4:1 | EdB | 242826
Eph 4:8 gives us some insight on this. Ephesians 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." We know Jesus went to the holding place of the dead. 1 Peter 3:19 (KJV) 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 1 Peter 4:6 (NASB) 6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God. Remember the righteous dead of the Old Testament were in Abraham's bosom not because of their righteous acts but because they realized they were sinners in need of a Messiah. They had waited for the Messiah all their lives. |

58 | why did judas betray jesus | Luke 22:3 | EdB | 242825
First that foremost the scriptures tells us Satan entered Judas. But also theologians usually agree to the belief that Judas was trying to force Jesus' hand. The Jews hated Roman captivity and it was the common belief that the Messiah would cast off all physical restraints to Judaism. Judas many believe was trying to get Jesus into action and lead the Messianic rebellion that freed the Jew from all captivity. There was also the money issue, we know Judas had a weakness concerning money, he stole from the money he held for Jesus and the disciples. He was going to be paid 30 pieces of silver so we are sure that also influenced him. But again the key factor was Satan efforts in his life. |

59 | what happened to OT people who died befo | Luke 16:19 | EdB | 242818
Read Luke 16:19-31 it will explain where the Old Testament saints WERE. They resided in Hades in Abraham's bosom or paradise. The wicked dead resided in Hades also but in the hot dry side. Then read Eph 4:8 it tells of Jesus leading those in captivity of death captive to heaven. 2 Cor 5:8 that when we are absent from the body we will be present with the Lord. |

60 | How did Magi know w/ to look for Messiah | Matt 2:2 | EdB | 242815
This passage in Matthew 2:2 tells us the Magi knew exactly what they were looking for, something had to make them aware of this. Many Bible scholars believe they were educated to the expectant arrival of the Messiah by Daniel. We know Daniel was leader of the Magi so it is almost certain he taught them of the great Jewish Hope. I think the timing was probably not known to them but the were told to prepare for the event. Much like we are told today to be ready for Jesus second coming. |
