3541 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Makarios | 7212
Steve, 1 Corinthians 4:4 says (NASB), "For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord." This verse does not automatically assume that we each have a clear conscience. Paul is stating here that he has a clear conscience, he is not speaking for you or for me here. Therefore, this verse does not 'prove' that we all have a clear conscience. However, Paul is saying that even though his conscience is clear, the ultimate judgment rests with the Lord (much like the scenario with Job in the Book of Job). This verse is not saying anything about all believers in general, you or me, or whatever. Paul is speaking in this verse about himself, and himself only. Reading this verse within the context of the chapter reveals this. No, none of my posts have been truncated. But I have noticed that the paragraphing and space separation that I use in writing posts somehow 'disappears' when viewed after I write them. Also, several characters have been inserted into my posts (making it look like misspellings) that were not there originally. Other than that, things have been Ok.

3544 | clear conscience | 2 Timothy | Makarios | 7182
You're very welcome, love4Him! Sure, I will let you know if I come up with any further Scripture on how or why we should be blameless. :-) What is my definition of conscience? Good question! We should look at Proverbs 20:27 for that one. It says here something about 'a spirit' of a man and 'all the innermost parts of his being'.. I believe that the conscience is that part of you that tells you when you are wrong and when you are right! It is always honest with you and never lies to you, since it knows who you really are! In short, I believe that your conscience is the Holy Spirit speaking to you in small ways and sometimes obvious ways. It tells you when you are going wrong, it helps to keep your paths straight and your eyes on Jesus! And your conscience is fed and grows every time you open your Bible and live the words of life and Truth! Living a pure, holy life is better than any earthly treasure, even better than your favorite food! And it is a blessing that produces a well spring of joy for all of your days, as long as you listen to your conscience! I'm happy to meet someone who has a 'love4Him' as I do! :) Blessings, Nolan!
3545 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Makarios | 7180
In response to 2 Tim 1:3, we should show ourselves to be blameless! And this requires a clear conscience. In Job 12:4, we read that Job was blameless. Therefore, since Job was just a human like us, it is possible for us to achieve blamelessness in our lives. Job had a clear conscience before his accusers and before God! Never was sin found in him that wasn't already repented of in his past and he had a clear conscience before the Lord. It is important that we have a clear conscience since through our blamelessness we will inherit good (Proverbs 28:10). It is clear and very important that we live blamelessly before men (Acts 24:16) so that we do not give unbelievers any reason or occasion to mock our Lord or any fellow Christian. We must also show ourselves to be blameless before God (Eph. 1:4, 2 Pet. 3:14) and in the Law (Phil. 3:6). If we keep our eyes focused on Christ, then He can keep us from stumbling, so that we may be blameless in His sight (Jude 24) with no more wrong in us left to make right.

3547 | Anything wrong with dating? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 7167
You're welcome JVH0212! I appreciated your answer to my note, and I pray that we could encourage one another as brothers who are single in Jesus Christ! Your assessment of the modern day dating scene is absolutely correct! The lewd and wild living filled with all kinds of fornication and sexual misconduct is a terrible blunt to society and a disgraceful thing to endure as a single person! I'm sure that your soul is tortured and tormented day and night as mine is by all the saturation of sexual misconduct in present day society. The 'dating scene' or society's idea of dating is completely and totally from satan himself, indulging in every sinful pleasure. Society has become so filled with sinful gluttony through dating that it is almost unheard of not to think of dating and cringe. I believe that society's answer to dating means death to our individual spirits and would be cause for the eviction of the Holy Spirit that should dwell inside of us and rule us rather than these passing sinful passions. When I think of Christians dating, I think more of a 'courtship' that involves both families of the couple. I think of an honest, sincere, and wholesome 'getting to know you' that should take place.. When I think of dating, I see it as something that could be wonderful and honoring our Lord and Savior at the same time by honoring our 'prospective' female friends by letting their parents and families know how we feel! This is something that is patient and kind, not something that should be rushed. And only with this 'gentle' premise can we build a foundation or friendship with a fellow sister in Christ that not only is based on Christ (and He is the center) but one of emotional support also. And in this way, we can gain the trust of the lady and also her family, so that I may also be included in her family as well- and her in mine! And this demands the highest purity, since we as Christians live according to the Spirit! And in this way, we can live lives with our mates that would be filled with love, contentment, and peace in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is my 'vision' of what a courtship could be. :)

Hey Steve, these are some very good observations and obviously spoken with some experience behind it. What you said about 'ministries coinciding' is very true! And that is something that should be considered in any serious relationship. However, you said that you did not marry until you were '3' years old? Just asking.. :) Thanks for your input! |

3552 | Prophecy of city of Tyre fulfilled? | Ps 87:4 | Makarios | 7142
Thanks Steve for your honesty! The fact is that Psalm 87 is NOT directly being fulfilled as a prophecy! You answered correctly, my brother in Christ. There is nothing in Psalm 87 that ascribes prophecy to Tyre, even though it is 'possibly' suggested in this verse. I had some questions concerning Tyre for the person who would affirm this verse as a prophecy.. Good show, Steve!
3553 | Goodbye, Friends | Eph 4:29 | Makarios | 7140
Dear Hank, my friend.. I have written you privately, and now I write you here. I will continue to respect you in whatever decision that you make. But please consider the responses here at the Forum to your note! You have been nothing short of inspiring with your humble stewardship and an example for all to follow. You are well deserved of our respect and gained it with each and every single one of your posts! You have the dream for this Forum that is attainable! It can be more of a fellowship instead of a firing ground. Now, I and the rest of the members must find a way to deal with this 'void' that we all feel, since your impressive intelligence and wit is gone. Your tremendous love for the Lord will be missed, my friend, you will be missed.. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus, my friend in all of your endeavors. Nolan

3556 | chcking scripture context | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 7129

3557 | what does Hebrews 6v4-6 mean? | Heb 6:4 | Makarios | 7127
"Impossible" is used three other times in the Book of Hebrews. It is impossible for the blood of animals to take away sin (10:4), for God to lie (v. 18), and for anyone to please God without faith (11:6). Here it is impossible to renew those who have fallen away from the faith (v.6).To tell you the truth, the "idea" of the possibility of a Christian 'losing their salvation' doesn't sit well with me, even though I am an Arminian in thought. However, I'm more inclined to go with Ryrie's (in my previous post on this thread) option #1 more than option #2, since a person who confesses Christ (but is not saved in the heart) may 'fall away' and go after things of this world like I did in my own life. However, now that I know Him in my heart as well, I am without excuse!! Therefore, if I renounce Christ now (which will never happen!!), then I can see where this verse may apply to me, giving me a very strict warning! But if you live by the Spirit, then you want to follow God with all your heart, mind and strength in total abandonment to His will.Sources: NKJV Nelson Study Bible, Harper-Collins Anotated NRSV Study Bible

Thank you roverjhb99 for this information! I had no idea that there was another revision of the ASV (this time based on the Majority Text) that was taking place. I will also take a look at this version-in-the-making and view its progress. I believe in giving every legitimate version a chance and a good look. Another new version, the Holman-Christian Standard, also is due out by 2004. I like the HCS NT, and I see it pretty much as in the same light as the NIV. I like the NIV better though, it being #3 on my list behind the NKJV and NASB. As for right now, I'll stick with my NASB.
3559 | Confidence? | Acts 4:13 | Makarios | 7124
Thank you, JVH0212! I appreciate your kind reply. The only thing that I may add here is that we are all after more instruction and are being trained by Jesus Christ. We have not fulfilled or finished our training in Him, and we will not during this lifetime. For Christ was the ultimate Teacher and it is through His authority and discipleship in His Name that we can gain experience and to grow, therefore making our lives available to Him so that He can train us to do His will. This is the highest form of training that one can undergo, and one that can be undertaken by any number of possible subjects in any walk of life on this earth! If only we will respond to the Teacher and be 'teachable'..

Hello, Steve, yes I have spoken with you on the Forum before! Thank you very much for the information, and I appreciate it!However, I feel as if I owe you an apology. We were at odds with each other on the 1 Tim 3:2 thread, and I made an 'example' of you by suggesting that something that you said was unhealthy for the Forum as a whole. You went so far as to e-mail me and I did not offer you kindness in return. I genuinely offer my apologies and ask for your forgiveness, my dear brother in Christ. I will take you seriously on the Forum and your word is just as good as mine. Thank you, dear brother, and I pray that we would be reconciled with each other. I also pray that we may continue a brotherhood here on the Forum to help provide good answers, like the answer that you gave to me for this question! Thank you Steve, and I appreciate your willingness to help me regardless of the way that I have treated you.Blessings, Nolan!
