34601 | Remember the rest of Christianity? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1487
Whatever happened to Deductive Reasoning. I was under the impression that the study of the Bible should begin with investigation of the all the relevant scriptures, known data and possible viewpoints. Under the unction of the Holy Spirit, and using the reasoning ability given us, we are to create hypothesis. The next obvious step is to apply these hypotheses to real life, and confirm them with actual people and situations in the word. All these steps should be in harmony, and the result should be 'livable' by all believers. Some of the doctrines and dogmas put forth here and in many churches are narrow spectrum. They might work fine in the U.S.A. or in the middle-class, or in a nice big, established church, but they are inapplicable or useless in another environment. Many of the views stated are obviously certain personal thoughts or opinions, then the Bible is used to back it up, with little regard to the rest of the church. I have met many Christians who know that Jesus died for them. But they do not care about the end-time, because circumstances do not allow them the luxury. Please, friends and colleagues, remember the rest of Christianity when you create your arguments and confirm your traditions. Just because someone taught you something very convincingly does not make it right. Understand that I am not speaking to one or two individuals, but to us all. I have been challenged by this forum, and had to repent of much assumption. But God is faithful to exhort us all to better understanding is we hear and think, as well as speak. Blessings to all in Christ Jesus.

34608 | Blood sacrifices during the Millenium? | Heb 10:12 | Nrojac | 1429
I recently sat under the teaching of a DD, who stated that there would be blood sacrifices, by Christians, during the Millenium. He said there would be no other way the point the unsaved offspring of the Christians to the Cross of Jesus. I believe that we will reign with Christ over the remainder of humanity. We will have glorified bodies, with out aging, death and sin, no sexual desires or pro-creation. Further, I believe that there will never again be blood sacrifices for the remission of sin, not even for a remerance, like communion. Please show me where to search out scripture to refute this DD. |

34609 | Hotmail anyone? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1411
Dear Fellows, Hotmail anyone? I read earlier a suggestion about using Hotmail for personal communication and fellowship. No one has come forth, and I can guess why. I have asked our host about it but received no answer one way or the other. I offer my hotmail address below as a means of introducing one to another. I cannot guarantee flawless or eternal service :-), and cannot bear legal responsibility for any problems that could occur (even among Christians), but I will try to honor your trust and respect your wishes. (This sounds like the 'Nakoudo.' or Japanese matchmaker :-) If you want to send your address to my Hotmail account, remember to give me instructions about how you want this information used. In Christ Jesus, charisjapan@hotmail.com |

34613 | Jesus at God's Right Hand. | Mark 16:19 | bcbloyd | 1399
I've often heard the following used to challenge the deity of Jesus: What about Jesus at the "right hand" of God? I'd like to offer the following in response... [The subject, of course, is open to further debate/discussion] I think the fact that Jesus is "exalted to the Right Hand of God" is further clarification of his identity as God or in other words... God's "Right Hand." Just look at what the Bible says about that "Right Hand": Psalms 89:13 "Thou hast a strong arm; Thy hand is mighty, Thy right hand is exalted." and Psalms 98:1 "O Sing to the Lord a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him." Other verses pertaining to God's arm include: Isaiah 48:13 "My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens..." Compare that to the verses about Christ in Col 1:15-16 and Heb 1:10. Then there's Isaiah 51:5 "My righteousness draws near speedily, my salvation is on the way, and my ARM will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and WAIT in HOPE FOR MY ARM" Compare that to Titus 2:13 "while we WAIT FOR THE BLESSED HOPE--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, JESUS Christ." (emphasis in both quotes mine) See also Isaiah 52:10 "The LORD will lay bare his holy ARM in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the SALVATION of our God." Compare that to 1 Peter 5-7,13 in which the "SALVATION that is ready to be REVEALED in the last days" is identified as none other than "JESUS Christ." Then there's the whole chapter of Isaiah 53, which begins with "Who has believed our message and to whom has the ARM of the LORD been REVEALED? HE grew up before him like a tender shoot...the will of the LORD will prosper in his HAND... [emphasis mine] Interesting, no? |

34618 | Is Jesus God? | John 1:1 | jg8ball | 1311
Can anyone show me any passages that show that Jesus is God? A friend of mine believes that Jesus is the Son of God but not God (and the Holy Spirit is the action of God but not God). I've shown him many verses but most can also be interpreted as separate individuals (for example: I baptize you in the name of the Father and in the Son, and in the Holy Spirit could be interpreted as baptizing in the name of the three separate entities.) I've also shown him the classic John 1:1 and similar verses but he interprets it at Jesus and God think alike, have the same mission, similar in nature, etc... Is there something in the Bible that very simply and cleary says that the Three are one? To me there are many verses that state this clearly, but to him, they state something completely different. |

34619 | Predestination vs free will--a thought.. | Bible general Archive 1 | bcbloyd | 1308
Just a bit of logical reasoning about the issue of "predestination" vs "free will." I've seen many who question as an either-or proposition a person's fate by God's "predestination" with a person's "free will" to determine his/her own fate. I don't think these things are contradictory and I can't help but consider how this may be applied to Jesus, himself. I mean the Bible points to the fact his fate on the cross was predetermined (See Isaiah 53:5)--God knew what would happen and gave that information to the prophets, such as Isaiah, centuries in advance--and yet, Jesus still had the free will to sacrifice himself on the cross. (See John 10:18) So, I think the same applies to us. God KNOWS who will and will not follow Him in advance--thus, in that sense our fates are predestined--but, the choice is still ours to freely make, just as it was with Jesus. Would anyone else like to comment on this? |
