Well, anyway, you've made the point well, as well, that translation is no mean task! Scholars need to really go to the well to find the right words. :-)
342 | world vs age | Gen 1:5 | stjohn | 216001
While you are waiting for an answer, (i.e. In the mean time) I see what you mean, and I wouldn't say you are being mean. You know what I mean? :-)

Amen. Maybe just a scratch, Steve, but one that bleeds truth. Excellent post! John |

344 | Does God lead us to sin? | Ex 4:21 | stjohn | 215874
Dear Sister Azure, Thanks for posting that sister! A good read for sure. And I love Dr Sproul, he's my kind of theologian; a real hard-nosed Monergist! :-) I love his attitude too and I totally agree; God's sovereign decretive will, is none of our business, what is is His revealed will! By the way Sister Azure, I've had monergism.com in my bookmarked favorites for quite some time now, it's one of my favorite websites. I'm happy to see you are visiting it too! I wish more Christians would read the stuff they have there it's very theologically sound. And there is so much there! It's really such a wonderful resource, I hardly know where to start sometimes. I'm like a kid in a candy store. :-) Shalom John |

345 | "You must be born again." | John 3:7 | stjohn | 215854
If salvation is the implantation of a new, infinite life in the soul, it must be a work of God. Self-caused effects can never rise above the character or qualities of their cause. "Flesh gives birth to flesh but the Spirit gives birth to Spirit," Jesus told Nicodemus. This saving grace cannot be caused by the creature, it can only come from God. - John Hannah
346 | are we born into a sinnful world | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 215851
MJH, Yes, I've often found the good folk's at gotquestions.org to be a very reliable source of biblical answers. Just imagine, the beauty we now see in His creation is only a mere shadow of that which will be when He returns to put it aright again. Not to mention the awesomely beautiful sight of, Him that created it! "Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven." Matt 6:9b-10 John |

347 | Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour | Rom 8:34 | stjohn | 215850
Thanks! Those verses are so fundamental to understanding salvation. And yet we will still try to use human understanding and suffer so much in our foolish pride in trying to take charge of it ourselves and complicate things by tacking our own worthless name to it! One passage that so often comes to my mind is: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Eph 2:8-10 It's just so much easier and such a real joy in the peace of heart and well-being we get by, getting out of the way and, simply letting Him -our all-sufficient Saviour- be in charge! :-) John |

348 | what does having on the breastplate mean | Eph 6:14 | stjohn | 215849
Makarios, Excellent choice of commentary's to help explain the meaning of the Breastplate of Righteousness. Very helpful and, easy to understand too. Thanks Bro.! John |

349 | Do we understand suffering in delighting | Ps 37:4 | stjohn | 215831
aah, I see, thanks for clarifying. :-) I suppose that can become a hindrance. Just a thought here, something that I gleaned from Hoppy's post in Matthew Henry's commentary. It seems that those chosen to suffer the most are given a special anointing. Sorry I don't have much time right now to expound, I gotta run to a mens discipleship meeting. God bless John |

350 | Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour | Rom 8:34 | stjohn | 215822
"When I was young, I was sure of many things; now there are only two things of which I am sure: one is, that I am a miserable sinner; and the other, that Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour. He is well-taught who learns these two lessons." - John Newton
351 | Why did Jesus need to leave first? | John 16:7 | stjohn | 215786
Amen, Doc, the order of salvation is spelled out pretty well in Romans 8:29-30 "For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified."-- To bad so many refute these things and insist on having a hand in their own redemption, regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification, by ignoring the biblical truth of predestination. Soli Deo Gloria! John |

Hi lionheart, I'm pretty sure Hoppy was simply giving us the name of the video that the YouTube link referred to, therefor, the question was rhetorical. :-) John |

354 | should we pray to god in the name of jes | John 16:26 | stjohn | 215760
Dear Ptr, You are very gracious, thank you for that, Ptr, it's becoming a far too rare commodity these days. Sir, I wonder if you might honor us by filling out your user profile, so we can get to know you a little better? I don't know how familiar you are with the features of the Study Bible Forum, but if you click on the username, you can read about that user in the personal profile page provided ( try saying that five times, fast.:-)) by Lockman for us. Of course this is purely voluntary so feel free to disregard my request. I hope you enjoy the forum and stay around to study His awesome word with us for a while. "Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph." Amos 5:15 KJV John |

355 | Is it against God's Law to be cremated o | NT general | stjohn | 215750
Makarios, I've got to commend you my young friend, you show a great deal of wisdom and composure for one your age. 1 Tim 4:12 My hat's off to you sir! :-) Your Bible knowledge is commendable too. I hope you can stay around for a while, I sure appreciate it, and I can learn from you. I'm a late starter when it comes to being well versed, though my knowledge of doctrine is okay, I need to be much more deliberate in catalyzing myself. After nine plus years of study, I've recently had a glaring realization that my Scripture memorization skills are sorely lacking. I'm working on it though. :-) John |

356 | should we pray to god in the name of jes | John 16:26 | stjohn | 215745
Dear Ptr, No problem here my friend, just making sure YOU understood. :-) Sorry for the question. Ptr, but, I have a J.W. friend who uses the same kind of language and scriptures as you and, in a similar way as you were, in that, they were of the same in essence, but that's as far as he goes. Just checking my friend and, again, welcome to the forum! Blessings to you, sir. John |

Dear Hoppy, Brother, it's a privilege and honor to bring our prayers and supplications to the feet of The Most High God. Hoppy, It indeed is an honor to join you in your prayers. May our gracious Lord keep you in His loving hand, and bring you comfort in your trouble my friend! And may the peace that truly surpasses all human understanding, fill your heart and give you strength to keep the faith in the one who is all sufficient. "Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:35-39 God bless John |

Dear Makarios, What a wonderful reminder of our blessed hope in the assured unfailing power of God in the resurrection of our bodies! "If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied." 1 Cor 15:19 John |

359 | should we pray to god in the name of jes | John 16:26 | stjohn | 215716
Dear Ptr, Welcome to the forum. Please clarify something for me will you please? The water sometimes gets a little muddy for me when people don't speak in definite terms, sorry it's entirely my fault I'm sure. But are you saying that Jesus is not one and the same God as God the Father and God Holy Spirit, and that they are not all one-and-the-same God? Are you getting interpretive information from watchtower or are you in some way affiliated with the Jehovah Witnesses? John |
