Dear WannaB... Only God can draw you to Him, open your eyes, and change your mind, I sincerely pray that He does. I 'was' very much like you, by the way. May the Lord open your eyes, and give you a new heart. God bless John |

Dear WannaB God Does not speak to us today in "visions and stuff." as you have said. May I suggest that you get some help with that?-! He does however speak to us through His Word, The Bible! Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; FOOLS despise wisdom and instruction. [emphasis mine] Eccl 7:18 It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them. May I say that, unless you overcome your laziness, study and BELIEVE God's Word, you will NEVER understand the first thing about God-!! Your assertions are quite unscriptural. And, it is not for us to decide how God is to treat His creation, He can do as He pleases, He, is In charge, we are not, it's as simple as that. It is you, that is exalting yourself, and you exalt yourself above God, when you say His precepts are silly! God bless John |

Dear WannaB I am sorry, if you think that I'm being a smart!ss. I am only trying to get you to see the importance of having a proper understanding of Scripture. God's word is not to be trifled with my friend, I pray that He will truly open your eyes. You seem to have a love for his word, here is something that I hope will inspire you to try to read it with new eyes. God bless John Born in the East and clothed in Oriental form and imagery, the Bible walks the ways of all the world with familiar feet, and enters land after land to find its own everywhere. It has learned to speak in hundreds of languages to the heart of man. It comes into the palace to tell the monarch that he is a servant of the Most High, and into the cottage to assure the peasant that he is a son of God. Children listen to its stories with wonder and delight, and wise men ponder them as parables of life. It has a word of peace for the time of peril, a word of comfort for the time of calamity, a word of light for the hour of darkness. Its oracles are repeated in the assembly of the people, and its counsels whispered in the ear of the lonely. The wicked and the proud tremble at its warnings, but to the wounded and the penitent it has a mother's voice. The wilderness and the solitary place have been made glad by it, and the fire on the hearth has lit the reading of its well-worn pages. It has woven itself into our dearest dreams; so that love, friendship, sympathy and devotion, memory and hope put on the beautiful garments of its treasured speech, breathing of frankincense and myrrh. —Henry van Dyke The Bible is a corridor between two eternities down which walks the Christ of God; His invisible steps echo through the Old Testament, but we meet Him face to face in the throne room of the New; and it is through that Christ alone, crucified for me, that I have found forgiveness for sins and life eternal. The Old Testament is summed up in the word Christ; the New Testament is summed up in the word Jesus; and the summary of the whole Bible is that Jesus is the Christ. —Bishop Pollock This Book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword and the Christian's character. Here paradise is restored, heaven opened and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object, our good is its design and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is given you in life and will be opened in the judgment and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labour, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents. —Author Unknown |

324 | Rev 20:10 | NT general | stjohn | 195789
Dear WannaB That is a good point, But Jesus does qualify His statement in, Matt 11:14 "And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come. Note that He says, "if you are willing to accept it" Then He follows it up with, and I'll skip down one verse, Matt 11:16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, 17 and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn." That is to say, that they were, [speaking of that, "generation"] acting as little children who were not happy with the game that the other children were playing, spoiled brats, if you please, who would 'not' accept what was being offered to them. In other words they did 'not accept' that it was Eligah, so... it wasn't. It is vital to read the verses we think may say one thing IN CONTEXT to see if that is really what they are saying, as in these verses which are often misunderstood. God bless John |

328 | How did Paul die | NT general | stjohn | 199885
The question was: How did Paul die? What or who is Sha'ul? There has been quite a tado here lately about speaking plainly as possible, and, in English, as this is an English speaking site. Would you mind please translating? |

329 | How did Paul die | NT general | stjohn | 199890
Thanks for responding, Talmid sense we, at least most of us, use a translation that is not in Greek, but English, it really would be helpful to try to keep our responses in English. I don't know if you are aware of the discussion we have been having about this, but it seems that most of us would prefer that we all speak in the same language. Perhaps you are aware and this is a jab? I'm not accusing of course, but the coincidence is quite glaring. I have read about six deferent translations of the Bible and they all use Paul, and, I think they all can be considered reliable. Thank you. |

What you are suggesting by translating from the original here at this site would not be Greek, at best, it would be a transliteration, as the actual Greek letters are not supported by this format. So What's the point? Is there something wrong with trying to be as clear, and concise and comprehensive and, Heaven forbid, cognitive, as possible, so as to give those who come here for answers, easy to understand answers?

332 | God love the senner but hate the sin | NT general | stjohn | 202751
Hello, and welcome to the forum gospelcom.... I cannot even begin to see an end to the Biblical arguments that would refute the thing's you have asserted too! One however has struck me quite dumb, but not really quite, as I will ask; where in the bible does is say that God's power is limited? As you have stated that His authority is limited! God is sovereign by all means! He dose as He pleases, and It it by His choice that we don't have to submit to His authority. And may I add that that is temporary; (Rev 19:20) And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. Rom 14:11 For it is written, "AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD." So, my dear, you see His authority, is over all and to all and all in all! No ifs ands or Buts! You have stated plainly that you think that God 'CANNOT' (emphasis mine) force us? I'm not even going to ask for scriptural reference to back that one up , it's too far out of the ball park. By the way, I am not by any means criticizing or condemning you, Just what you bring on your plate. And may I add that you have stated, when your character is like Jesus' character you will probably no longer feel the need to criticize or condemn? Well my friend, try reading, John 8:42-47, and see if Jesus has criticized anyone? God bless John |

Hello, gospelcompilation: I am truly sorry that you are offended, but, Brother Steve has tried to direct you to a proper understanding of the Word of God, with the Word of God. My dear friend, giving out the Word of God is the most loving thing a man or women can do, period! You, by the way, have yet to do so. You have now said, in reply to him, that you don't understand where he is coming from. Now, while he has used God's Word to back up what he has tried to teach you and you have not even given a jot of scripture to back up what you are teaching, I would have to say that it is you that is not showing love or kindness or patience. And so in conclusion my friend, I must say that if you cannot understand the Word of God, then you are the one that is not spirit filled, as you have accused us of being. John 12:40 "HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM." I pray that God open your eyes my friend. God bless John P.S. If you find this place offensive, then yes, you truly are in the wrong place. But I pray that you find a loving heart behind the rebukes that you have received and stay, study the Word of God with us, learn to love it as we have here at the forum most thankfully and respectfully do. |

335 | Were the disciples saved, Born Again? | NT general | stjohn | 206242
Hello Bowler: Welcome to the forum! If I may I'd like to give you my take on the significance of the water Jesus is referring to; I don't think John 3:5 refers to the water of natural birth, or water baptism, as some say it does. Here are my reasons. "just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word," Eph 5:25b-26 The Holy Spirit, works through the word of God to bring forth a change in the heart of man that we may Believe in Him. The Word of God is the water. Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." John 4:10 "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.' John 7:38 When we speak the word of God it is the rivers of living water that flows from our hearts. Water, is referring to the Word of God that flows from our hearts. It is that very Word of God, the water of the Word, that "washing of the water with the word" that brings the lost the gift of faith in Him who is sufficient to save. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." Rom 10:17 And, Christ, is that living water, and it's by the Holy Spirit working through the word, that is the water that He is referring to in John 3:5 to be "born again". He is not speaking of temporal things, but spiritual things. "If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?" John 3:12 "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you." Ezekiel 36:25 "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." Hebrews 10:22 "And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely." Revelation 21:6 "And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb." Revelation 22:1 "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." Revelation 22:17 God bless John |

Hi Quvmoh: Amen, all very good references. My favorite though, is the whole of John ch 17. What an awesome prayer! We can be certain that if the Father was to honor and answer a prayer, it would indeed be one prayed by His beloved Son, "The Righteous One", Jesus! God bless John |
