301 | How am I saved? | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 131599
Hello Emmaus, I thank you for your response. In all due respect, I will agree to disagree on this, my friend:-) For the record, I have no challenge with you or any other "Catholic Christian" who names the name of Christ! We are one in Him, regardless of any doctrinal disagreements, if indeed Jesus Christ has entered our hearts by faith. As always, I so much appreciate your input and perspective. 302 | Have you ever read a book by a Catholic? | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 131620
Tim, You make a good point to state that the phrase is not defined. This is an interesting phrase nontheless! Possibly we can get a sense of it from Hebrews 11:8: "By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going." Obviously this being a reference to Gen. 12:1-4. Abraham's "obedience" was "by faith"- the focus of Hebrews 11. C. H. Spurgeon referred to this example as "the obedience of faith" in one of his enlightening sermons of the same title. It is an interesting and worthwhile read:-) Israel had to obey to receive the blessings of God. By contrast, we have been blessed (Eph. 1:3) that this would bring obedience. Therefore, our obedience is "by faith". Speaking the Truth in Love, |

303 | should a catholic marraige be sanctified | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 131636
Emmaus, This is an obviously emotionally charged topic, and one that no doubt may be misunderstood by non-Catholics. I do appreciate your "insider" perspective. In honestly seeking clarification here, could you do 2 things? 1. Provide a more "layman" explanation or summary of what this is saying; 2. Define Infallibilty. My major challenge is this: I would have an extremely hard time (from my perspective)in accepting that anyone- including the Pope - could be "infallible" in any meaningful sense of the word. This seems to be contrary to scripture. How exactly would the Church as a whole possess infallibility? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

gods son, If you're really true to your moniker, would you mind toning down the Catholic Bashing. It is not becoming, proper, or fitting. You are strongly advised to read the Posting rules before you further your diatribe. I speak as a Protestant, that not all Catholics- specifically Emmaus- are of the ilk and persuasion you think. Whether we agree or not, please stop with the over-generalizations in the name of Christ. We are to be speaking the truth in love! BradK |

307 | What is an acceptiable "Biblical questn? | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 134096
Kalos and Tim, You both offer some good advice on this matter. For my 2 cents worth, Politics is very personal and therefore usually carries with it some strong emotional ties! Emotions can very quickly run a discussion off-track, so we must be careful. I agree that what the Bible says about ISSUES is within the realm of acceptability, but PERSONALITIES and PARTIES should be kept to a bare minimum- if at all! I think , again, a review of the Terms of Use and Posting Guidelines as Hank mentioned would be a good starting place for all- especially those new to this Forum:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

308 | Is it biblical? | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 134120
believer, Before you pull the plug and run, let me offer up a challenge: I thought you said you'd be one to "tough it out"? Quitting is easy Misty! The grass ain't gonna be any greener anywhere else, trust me. If you truly are committed to making a difference, stick around and be part of the solution, not part of the problem! Misty: To paraphrase John Maxwell, I could give you a dozen reasons to quit this Forum. I could have that many myself! I'm more interested in the reason(s) "why" you came to the Forum to begin with. As he (Maxwell) said, "If you start something for the wrong reason, you'll quit for the wrong reason too". Think about it before you let your emotions drive your decision. 309 | (What is one to think???) | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 134389
Perry, In answer to "what is one to think", I reviewed some of the links from your other enlightening posts:-) What I think is the Bible is indeed the Word of God- as it claims, and Carl Jung is a mere man who doesn't even come close to providing the answers to life's important questions! It might be better asked, "does the world need new psychologists?" Keep in mind that no two schools of psychology can agree on methodolgy! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

310 | Satan said I will how many times? | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 134398

311 | Satan said I will how many times? | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 134445
GB, I would offer that your response certainly does not put to rest this matter. I'm more puzzled than anything by both your rather glowing generalities and appearance of superiority. To quote: ", as I have stated previously, one is sincere and adheres to 2 Timothy 2:15, they will develop a spiritual discernment that appears to be non existent with anyone I have thus far discussed this topic with on this forum" "As for those who have a problem in digesting what I say, I would suggest they go back to the milk of scripture. IF, of course, they can find faith enough to believe in whatever version they would choose." All I will say to this is: these statements prove nothing, my friend! If you're really as mature and have digested the real meat as you suggest, maybe you should enlighten those of us who are mere "babes". If not, as I suspect is the real case, possibly you may have missed Romans 12:16? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

312 | man's tradition | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 136949
Al, You're basing the argument for Papal Authority on what I consider weak scriptural foundation. Scripture never refers to Peter nor confers on him the title of "Pope". That is your tradition! May I say in all fairness, that IMO this is tradition passed down to you by the Catholic Church! I'm not sure why you persist in pushing this denominational bias, Al. Most of us are well aware of these positions and it is certainly confirmation of the differences between Catholicism and protestanism. These differences have existed for centuries and I'm sure will continue, much like Calvinism and Arminianism to be points of contention- if we allow them! My friend, you are as welcome on this Forum as anyone else Catholic or Protestant, but please stop being so patronizing. It's not necessary, and you're not covering any new ground:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

313 | God's name -I AM- | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 138147
LeslieN, Jesus saying that He is the "I AM" (Ego Emi) of John 8:58 harkens back to Ex. 3:14 where God told Moses to tell them that "I Am" sent him. The Jews understood this to be a direct claim to (His) Diety- which is why they took up stones to stone Him. The Hebrew word for I AM-hayah- means to exist, or to become. I AM is a name of God told us by scripture and is descriptive of His very nature. Jesus is The I AM- the Jehovah of the OT- God in the flesh. His very nature is divine. He is the second Person of the trinity, very God of very God. If you're intersted in a more detailed study of the names of God, a very good resource is "Names of God" by Nathan Stone, late of the Moody Bible Institute. Though very thorough, it is a fairly easy read and contains much solid exposition of this neglected topic. Possibly this would be of help to you. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hi Erin, Obviously, read and re-read from several different translations- if you have access to them. Then, prayerfully meditate on and think about what you've read. Next, if you're looking for some on-line resources, I might suggest www.crosswalk.org or www.bible.org. Both have several Commentaries that can aid in your understanding. You can also use the Search function from this site by typing in both chapters. I hope this helps, BradK |

315 | why does God allow evil to exsit | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 138474
Chuck, To those of us "lost down the road to fundamentalism and Calvary", I can only hope to be on the next flight to India and join a Beetles reunion (including George Harrison)with the spiritual guru, Dali Lama! George Harrison was on the right track with his song, "My Sweet Lord". Similarly, Dr. Timothy Leary wisely counselled, "tune in, turn on, and drop out". NOT! Eccl. 1:9 BradK |

316 | why does God allow evil to exsit | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 138475
Doc, I think John Shelby Spong already rescued us from "fundamental misconceptions" in his book, "Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism". He has also, brilliantly found a way to revitalize the Christian faith to make it more relevant to the more enlightened 21st Century mind- which I'm admittedly not. Unfortunately,I'm not buying what you're selling, sorry:-( Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

318 | Can Satin read our minds?Chaser. | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 138671

319 | Can Satin read our minds?Chaser. | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 138702
Janae, I would have to concur with Hank and EdB. I don't see anyway that 1 John 4:1 provides a reason as to how Satan can read our minds! It simply gives Satan too much credit by ascribing to him an Attribute of God.(Ezek 11:5) Satan is not ominiscient. As C.S. Lewis observed, we error with regard to satan in 2 ways: 1. We don't give him enough credit; 2. We give him too much Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

320 | Can Satin read our minds?Chaser. | Bible general Archive 2 | BradK | 138709
Hi Janae, I think we need to keep this discussion within the realm of Biblical understanding:-). I can't answer such an extreme example (as you offer). I'm neither a Psychologist nor mental health professional. However, just because a schitzophrenic "hears voices" does not necessitate that they are from satan! Back to the original question: Can satan read our minds? No, I do not believe there is any Biblical basis for it. Can you show otherwise? Yours In Christ, BradK |
