21 | When ever you want to | Ex 21:10 | wdc | 102734
Here is what puzzles me. All these guys in the Bible were used of God and even in David's case was called a man after God's own heart. But adultry didn't seem to be a problem to them. I mean David was just out one night starring at the stars or thinking about some kingly business, and saw this woman and decided to have sex with her. Naturally it led to other problems, but what was he thinking? Adultry was wrong then, how could he have so easily done this? And Judah in Gen. 38, he was just going down the road to work and saw a woman of the side of the road and decided to have sex. But today such a big deal is made over a pastor that is divorced or married to a divorced woman (it's almost as if that is the only qualification given in the N. T. for pastors and deacons)that it causes me to wander, if the men in the O.T. could take sex so lightly and God still blessed them and used them, how come it is so serious in the N.T.? It seems that Paul mentions sexual sins every few verses. I am not having immoral thoughts or wanting another wife, I have just always wandered about this. Any ideas or thoughts? wdc |

22 | Can anyone see Jesus in this life | 1 Tim 6:16 | wdc | 102725
Gentlemen, I don’t hold with most of the dreams and visions that we hear about today either. I would just like to share a thought here for I have been approached by some friends with questions like this also. They are members of an evangelical movement, and had a vision of Jesus telling them some new doctrine and some new understanding of some scripture verses. What Jesus was supposed to have told them did not agree at all with other scripture and it had to do with salvation and the endtime. John 14:21 21He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Jesus promises to manifest Himself to those who has His commandments, keeps them, and loves Him. Strong’s says manifest means to exhibit in person or disclose by words. In verse 22 Judas ask’s how Jesus will manifest Himself to them and not to the world, probably since the world doesn’t keep the commandments of Jesus or love Him. Jesus answers in verse 23 that He will make His abode with that man. I understand this to mean or indicate the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The indication here is also a strong love not only for Jesus, but for His word, the Bible. If someone claims to have seen Jesus, and received a message from Jesus, that message will without a doubt, correspond to the Words of Jesus, the Bible. 1 John 4:1 tells us that there are many spirits and voices out there doing their best to get our attention and to lead us away from the truth. We have to have a guide line or a plumb line if you would, to anchor us in truth so we don’t get lead astray, and God gave us two. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit to lead us to truth and away from error, and the second is the Bible, God’s inerrant word to man. I am not smart enough to cipher through all the voices that are calling to me in the world today, so I meditate daily on the word of God and keep my ear tuned to the leading of the Spirit. My friends told me that Jesus told these new things and that I should listen to them and follow these new teachings or I would be backsliden and ought of step with the work of Christ. They were exceptionally bold in their assertions because they believed their new teachings had come straight from Christ. They would not listen to reasoning to them from scripture, because what they had received superceded scripture. Needless to say, I don’t fellowship with them on a regular basis anymore. We must very careful in this day and age. Just a thought on this subject. Your brother in Christ, wdc |

24 | why | NT general Archive 1 | wdc | 51841
If there is no scriptural basis for it, why do Bible believing people and Churches practice it? I cannot see into a man's heart, how can I know that he/she has unrepentant sin so as not to serve them? I see some serious problems here. later...wdc |

27 | why desire faith, healing, miracles, etc | 1 Cor 12:30 | wdc | 29005
tuli, Why wouldn't desire the gift of wisdom, faith, healing, miracles or discernment, so I could be a blessing and a help to other people instead of tongues? It seems to me that the main reasons given by those today for the desireing the gift of tongues is to build up oneself, I could use the other gifts to help others. Isn't that what the gospel is about and why Jesus came, to help others? later...wdc |

28 | Where are you getting all this informati | Acts 2:6 | wdc | 28728
Hello Tim, Where are you getting all this information? Do you have it in your library, or is it a web site? I would like to have access to information like that. On another subject, this is also one of the things that confuses today, all the different translations and greek text and such. I have currently gone back to the KJV because it is the one I was raised in (but I really don't like reading it) and I get really confused and disheartened trying to study with the others when they say different things. I know interpretation is not an exact science, but somehow, it really bothers me. Any help here? later...wdc |

29 | your statement | 1 Cor 12:30 | wdc | 28727
Ezekiel, I could infer from your statement: "Why would we not want to recieve it when the Holy Gives you power to witness change your life style guide you in your life and on and on i could go" that if I do not speak in tongues that the Holy Spirit will not guide me, empower me to witness, nor change my lifestyle. Surely you are not saying this? As to the question why would I not want to receive the gift of speaking in tongues, the main reason I might not want to receive that particular gift is if it is not the gift that the Holy Spirit is trying to give me, 1 Cor. 12:4-11. Not everybody is intended to speak in tongues. The Bible is clear about that. If I tried to get a gift or immulate a gift God did not intend for me, would I not be going against God's will for me? later...wdc |

31 | Paul's intrepretative method | Rom 10:16 | wdc | 28713
dj, I have questioned some of Paul's usage of O.T. passaages and his interpretations for years. The only way I can keep myself sane in trying to figure out how he arrived at some of his conclusions is to remind myself that he was inspired or moved by the Holy Spirit to write what he wrote. He was also taught by Christ Himself (Gal. 1:15-18). I hear preachers and teachers say how Paul was a good teacher and so clear in his writing and explanation of things, I disagree. I have trouble reading him, it seems to me he will be expaining a doctrine or teaching something, and then right in the middle of it, he will throw in a statement from I don't where, or just start off on some other thought. I just keep telling myself that he was led of God to write and if I keep praying and seeking the mind of the Lord, I will understand sooner or later. later...wdc |

34 | How did they do it? | Ex 7:10 | wdc | 28676
Beth7, Satan can do all kinds of things and empower his servants to do lying signs and wonders. (2 Th 2:9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, We are warned over and over not to be deceived, because Satan is a master of deception. Remember Satan and his servants can even transform themselves into ministers of righteousness and angels of light, 2 Cor. 11:13-15. Hope this helps. later...wdc |

35 | Why would God fight against His people? | Jer 21:5 | wdc | 28674
Hello again, God did this to these people just like He caused those He delivered out Egypt to wonder in the wilderness and die. He did it because they rejected Him and did evil in His sight. He had prepared great things for them, but their rebellion caused them to miss out on the blessings of God. God had already warned them that if they rebelled, that they would not receive the things He had promised them, but would receive judgment. See Deut. 28:2 and 15. (Deu 28:2) And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. (Deu 28:15) But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: later...wdc |

36 | Why does Jeremiah think he was deceived? | Jer 20:7 | wdc | 28673
Hey Nolan and Searcher, I preached on this passage a few years ago, here is my understanding on it. Jeremiah was upset obviously, everyone is against him, people want to kill him, etc, because he is doing what God told him to do. Basically he is feeling sorry for himself. He keeps remembering what God told him when God called him to prophesy. (Jer 1:8) Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. See also Jer. 1:10, (Jer 1:18) For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. (Jer 1:19) And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee. He remembers all these things, and he is wandering what went wrong, why hasn't God done these things? In the midst of his dispair and depression, he accuses God of deceiving him. He was not really deceived, he didn't understand what God had planned. He was questioning God, just like we do sometime. Does this make sense? later...wdc |

37 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | wdc | 28670
Hello, What about this verse in Rev. 22:18-19 (Rev 22:18) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: (Rev 22:19) And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. How does God take away his part out of the book of life? The only way I know of is to erase or strike his name out of the book. I think about it like this. God loved the world so much that He gave His Son (John 3:16), and He is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9), so before the foundation of the world, God wrote everybody that was to be born into the book of life. The only way our name can be taken out of the book of life is to die in your sin, that is, die without accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior. I have never heard anyone else say this, but I have thought about it for a long time. We tell people that when they accept Jesus, their names are written in the book of life, but I can't find that in the Bible, only that our names are written in the book before the foundation of the world, and then that they can be taken out of the book, see Rev. 22 again. What do you think, later...wdc |

39 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | wdc | 28275
Dear fellow believers, I have just finished reading all the post on this subject in this thread. The one thing that stuck out to me above all, and there were good arguements both ways, is that those that argue for tongues had no scripture in context to back them up, only experience, and when asked for specfic answers and verses, avoided the question. Those that posted oppositions to the practice of speaking in tongues as we see it today used scripture and scripture only for their defense. When they were asked a question, they gave scripture. THAT SAYS A LOT TO ME. My thoughts on this? I'm glad you asked. Paul specifically says that everyone does not have and will not receive the gift of tongues. And if Jesus had intended that speaking in tongues be the evidence of the baptism/filling of the Holy Spirit, He would have said so. And He didn't. I understand the evidence of the baptism/filling of the Holy Spirit to be Acts 1:8 "and you shall be witnesses to Me..." Further scripture, John 16:13-14 (John 16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. (John 16:14) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. The Holy Spirit only glorifies Jesus, the Holy Spirit, as best as I can understand, will never lead someone to seek Him or what He can do, but will lead us to Jesus, help us to seek and know Jesus. I am setting here trembling inside as I type this, because I feel so unequal to many of you. After reading your postings, I am in awe of your wisdom and knowledge of scripture. But I felt I needed to share my observations and maybe help someone like me. In Christ. later...wdc |
