Thank you Tim, that is very enlightening, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a doubting Thomas at heart, so I will be checking the Greek out for myself, but non the less, your answer has made my day! by the grace of God Chuck a.k.g. (schimc) |

Thank you Ray, of course that was just a side note and it really had nothing to do with my orginial question, but that is my fault, not yours. I'm so glad I came here to find some answers. by the grace of God Schimc |

24 | Virgin Birth Myth | Matt 1:19 | schimc | 108025
I have no problem whatsover with your first response. Sometimes one sentance or even a paragraph doesn't really answer a question anyway. And a book to read that is inspiring and helps answer the question is fine by me. I can assure you I am not wanting to disbelieve the Bible. I had a serious question and I feel that most of the responses I got were excellant. I felt the same of yours. Thanks again. Schimc |

25 | virgin birth | Matt 1:19 | schimc | 108028
Very true, but then again, there are so many skeptics out there that I like to be prepared. I usually do not read the material that trys to mislead, but my brother, whom I love dearly, is really scaring me about his beliefs now. He is so confused that I needed something to go on. He has gone from Catholic, to conservative, to liberal, and back to Catholic. That would probably confuse anyone. But he, being a very sincere and loving person, gets very turned off by Churches that make him feel like they have all the answers. Now he's in a Bible study with a group who are all fundamentalist. I have been worried about him for sometime now, but have kept my mouth shut. After all, he has done much more spirtitual reading than I have, and I know he loves God above all others. But he may be as you have said, way to open minded for his own good. We have another brother who was baptized as an adult, but now is so bitterly opposed to anything religious that it is even more scary. Thank you Indy for taking the time to respond. by the grace of God Schimc |

27 | Did Mary Magdalene see the risen Christ | John | schimc | 141682
Did Mary Magdalene see the risen Christ on her first trip to and from the tomb? It seems like some versions are saying yes and some are leading you to believe no. |

28 | Did Mary Magdalene see the risen Christ | John | schimc | 141766
Thank you for your response. It helps to read it as if it is a summation of the events. Then it makes more since. The skeptics have a real problem with the author’s accounts. I have to admit I was taken in by some of it and it hasn't helped me spiritually. But I have found almost all of the critics to be looking for loopholes instead of looking for truth. Thanks again. |

29 | Physical or Spiritual Resurrection | 1 Cor 15:14 | schimc | 113310
I am still looking for scripture, preferably many different versus, where it unequivocally refers to the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. I have gotten an answer where it speaks of it once, but not multiple times. I have been told, and it makes since to me, that when it is only included one place in the scripture, it isn't as trustworthy as it is when it speaks several times of an event. Again, my brother is the root of the question, he is convinced that the physical resurrection portion was added to the text. My thought process is, if it is included several times in the scripture, then it becomes more difficult to except this belief. Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

31 | Did Jesus appear to Mary? | 2 Tim 2:15 | schimc | 141429
carm.org online looks like a very good site. Thank you for your response. Let me get more specific in my question. On the surface, there seems to be a very big inconsistancy in the resurrection account. For now, I would like to address the following question. Did Jesus appear to Mary Magdeline on her first trip to the tomb? My brother has brought up some supposed contradictions in the resurrection account, and I have been able to find some, not to be contradictions at all. But I must admit at this point I am stumped for an answer for the answer to the follwing question. Did Mary Magdalene see the risen Christ on her first trip to and from the tomb? Matthew 1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” 8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” (This is obviously saying that Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene before the apostles) Mark 8Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. ((The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:920.)) 9When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it. (Same thing here, Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene before the apostles) Luke 1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8Then they remembered his words. 9When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. (Here it makes no mention of Jesus appearing to Mary before she relayed to story of the empty tomb to the apostles) John 1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!” (Again, no mention of Jesus appearing to Mary, before she relayed the story to the apostles) I must admit, this is puzzling! |

Ray, I am a new subscriber. I have read many of your responses. I am particularly interested in questions about the virgin birth. I am not a new believer. I have recently read many disturbing contrasts related to the virgin birth story. I was hoping you could help me with my quest for answers concerning this very controversial story. Also, please update me on your battle with cancer. |
