21 | Are the fruits only from God? | Gal 5:22 | pixie | 74309
Thank you Searcher, I've just found a verse that helps me. It is Matthew 7:18. It says a bad tree can not bring forth good fruit. I also think I saw somewhere in the bible that without the spirit you can't live like this but I'm not sure where it is so I'm still looking. Thanks again for your caring answer.......pixie |

22 | Are the fruits only from God? | Gal 5:22 | pixie | 74299
Do these fruits accompany only the spirit? Can a person who is very self controlled show these fruits without the spirit? My husband walked this life ever since I've been with him (11yrs.) and I understand that as far back as age 5 he was this way. Yet he denied God as personal. I've been looking for the comfort to know that I will see him again(he died in Dec. 2002) I think that living a life like this can only come through the power of God. There are too many temptations in this world. He didn't want the things of this world. He drove a junky car, never wore any jewelry or even name brand clothes. He was humble and genuine. I find that impossible without God's special touch. This gives me the hope that The Holy Spirit was holding on to him throughout his life, which gives me hope that He didn't let go of my husband at the end. I'm only one person with perhaps dogmatic ideas. Your thoughts on the fruits of the spirit might be quite comforting.....thanks.....pixie |

23 | The bible is a work of fiction - discuss | Gen 1:1 | pixie | 74193
Well, it's been over a year since I last wrote this response to the post. My husband died unexpectedly in Dec.2002. I have been tortured by the thought that he is not with God. I've been needing God to reassure me since I continued to pray for my husband daily for 11 years. I continued to tell him of the evidences I had read. The book "A Case for Christ" is a great help to witness to non believers. My husband would sit and listen and absorb. I'd also often tell him to "JUST ASK HIM" Just a month before he died he showed signs of recognizing some fulfillment of prophecy. And the night before he died I told him how the disciples that had once turned their backs on a healthy, strong Jesus were within days of the crucifixion preaching boldly, without concern for their own lives. I said "what made them change? Something happened back then" He responded "Yes, something happened" I'm praying that the holy spirit had been working with him through his life. If it were just works I would be sure. Galatians 5:22,23 lets us know what the fruits of the spirit are. He possessed all these fruits and more that are traits of a Christian. I don't know how he could have lived like this without The Holy Spirit. I don't even think a person with tremendous inner strength could. A weakness would eventually show up in 11 years. He even often stopped me when I was looking for vengeance or to attack a persons Christian character. He would discuss it with me and tell me why it was wrong. He had better Christian character than most Christians I know but he used to say that he believes in God but that he thinks he's on the other side of the universe and left us alone. He was also an evolutionist. I know The Lord can work instantly and I'm hoping He had gotten through to my husband. I wish a persons works and lifestyle would be evidence of one's salvation. It would be so much easier for the survivors. Please pray that The Lord will give me that comfort. I miss my husband so..........pixie |

Hi all, I think the basic reason for the differences is that it is so difficult to believe that salvation is so simple. When Jesus died on the cross He said "It is finished" For this reason a lot of people are still looking to find what exactly they have to do to find salvation so they add books to the original bible or they have Separate books which they read instead of or along side of the bible. It really is pretty hard to grasp the fact that as far as salvation goes "It's that simple" Many, many times Christ said "Thy Faith hath made thee whole" Once it strikes a person that it really is that simple they will then sincerely trust that "it is finished" This trust will fill your heart with such an awesome feeling of love that you will dedicate your life to Jesus. The weight of the world comes off your shoulders. It's an amazing experience. Just to be loved so much is a tremendous feeling..... sincerely ......pixie |

26 | when did it rain for the first time? | Genesis | pixie | 23891
STOP IT!! The bible is not to be argued over. Whether it rained or not is SOoo minor although i'ts nice that people look to defend the questions that some skeptics might have. I personally think you need to get a grip of the TRUTH before you start entering a discussion board and obviously arguing. About the 2nd time hearing you two, I lost sight of the truth somehow and it made a stressful day even more so. In case you haven't noticed there are a whole lot of differnt beliefs in this world which unfortunately make for WARS. Knock it off!!! |

27 | The bible is a work of fiction - discuss | Gen 1:1 | pixie | 23507
I have had many spiritual battles where Satan has tried to convince me that the bible is a book of dragons, mythology and fairy tales. My husband believes that is exactly what it is and I have to just pray for him. Sometimes I point out to his scientific and evolutionist mind of his, the scientific evidence supporting the bible. Although often times the science has refuted the bible, it has later said "oops" we were wrong. There are some books written by ex skeptics who attempted to prove the bible wrong and instead found it impossible to do so. One is "Evidence that demands a verdict" by Josh McDowell (I think that's his name). Another is "Science and the Bible" I'm not sure who wrote that one. Many highly intelligent people believe because of their drive to prove the bible to be an impossible fairy tale. Perhaps the best way for you to know would be to try to prove it wrong. Another way would be to JUST ASK HIM. Tell your fiance to trust God to lead you. I'm sure there are plenty of christians that have read your post and will be praying for you..May God lead you in your search. |

"Simple" seems to be a little difficult to do when explaining this. I like to put it like this...When the River water goes rushing past and you take a bucket and catch some, then freeze it, you have River water in 3 forms. One form flows freely, one form is solid which is much more restricted and can be crushed, broken and otherwise harmed. The final form is in the bucket, able to be poured out upon the earth. They are all River water but different. Take the ice, put it in the bucket water, wait till it melts then pour it back in the River. It all mixes and flows together. There is no longer any distinction. ......Visualize this over a period of time and it will become clear...God bless...
29 | Do we always have to debate? | Bible general Archive 1 | pixie | 22666
Hi, I think opinions are necessary for bible study. If someone wants to study simply the words of the bible they can pick up a dictionary. I, however, prefer to study the meaning. It is inevitable when one studies the bible that the question would be asked "what does that mean" How on earth do you suppose that the answers are going to come back unanimous? I also find it interesting that you would comment on allowing only "the right answer". Only the author of "The Book" knows the right answer. As far as the disclaimer goes, I think the lack of scriptural reference probably is already recognize as a disclaimer. Forgive me if I missed the meaning of your post but I was bothered by what I interpreted. I guess that shows that some will misunderstand opinions whether right or wrong...Peace....Pixie

Thanks Ray. I figured that was the problem but I couldn't find the original question. Actually I'm new so I didn't know that the name of the questioner would take me to it. Thanks again..pixie
31 | meaning of Life | Bible general Archive 1 | pixie | 21775
Hi, I think the meaning of life is to be God's friends. He created us to have someone who would love him because we want to and not because we have to. Unfortunately too often in this friendship we are not as good at being a friend as He. We can cry on His shoulder and He'll listen but do we always listen to Him? We can ask to BORROW and He will GIVE freely but do we give much to Him. He calls us just to say "hi" but many of us won't call Him unless we need something. Yes, we were put here to be His friends. This is just my philosophy though it might sound a little sentimental.....pixie |

32 | Is Paul including here the Ten Commandme | Rom 7:1 | pixie | 21771
What exactly are you asking? I have read this over and over and am not understanding. The Law is for all who recognize it as God's statement of what He considers sin. We are no longer bound by this law but if one knows it's wrong and still does it, he will be held accountable. I hope this is somewhat close to what you were asking.....pixie
33 | explain Mark 15:34 | Mark | pixie | 21123
Hi Steve, I never really thought about this subject. I know that Jesus took on the sins of the world but as to how long he held them, was never a question. You bring up some food for thought. I don't know whether He shed the sins that were placed on him or perhaps His blood covered and purified them. But I know He had to be sinless and holy before entering into God's presence. So when did His holy nature return? As I said before, this is not something that I had ever thought of and my earlier response was an immediate thought. I guess I'll have to study up on this subject..thanks..pixie
34 | What was Jesus writing? | John | pixie | 20994
Apparently since these people were acting upon the law, reminding them of it wouldn't have done much good and it would have only shown Jesus' knowledge of the scriptures. On the other hand if Jesus had been writing all the sins that each of these people had hidden in their hearts, perhaps the ones they felt most guilty about, this may have shown them the true deity of Christ and his ability to treat them with kindness even though He could see clearly the things they had hidden. So how could they stone this woman when they had been reminded of their own sins...just a thought.
35 | explain Mark 15:34 | Mark | pixie | 20991
I agree that Jesus became sin for us at that time and God turned away but I believe that it was for a split second and then Jesus' holy nature returned. As we know, when we completely submit our lives to and accept the gift of salvation through Jesus, we feel that complete separation from sin. As if a great burden had been lifted but then in a split second our sinful nature returns. Jesus was sin for a split second. He died Holy.
36 | New Testament/ Old Testament | Matthew | pixie | 20988
Hi Leroy......to make it simple, testament is another word for "promise" or something similar. The "old testament" is the old promise beginning with God's creation of universe and man. In the old testament we had to follow God's laws and make animal sacrifices for our sins. Jesus was spoken of and prophesied but did not yet exist on this earth in human form. The New Testament is the new promise beginning with the Angel informing Mary that she would have a baby and he would be the savior of the world. In the New Testament we read of the life and death of Jesus. There are no more animal sacrifices because Jesus paid the final sacrifice for our sins. In short, the Old testament is before Jesus' birth and the New testament is after....God bless you in your studies. |
