21 | Abandon, not never get on | 1 Tim 4:1 | nathanbgerman | 234840
So the way I understand it, you're saying that the people Paul talks about who "will abandon the faith" are people who never really believed in the first place. I disagree with that for multiple reasons. First, try replacing the word "faith" with another word like "ship". I say "ship" because in the passage in 1 Timothy, Paul uses the word "abandon" and "abandon ship" is a common phrase. Anyway, consider this. In order to abandon a ship, one must first be on the ship. Second, I have a friend who knew somebody who once had a good strong relationship with God and a desire to become a missionary. However, she eventually had a lot of struggles with Christianity and is now a Muslim. How do you explain that? I had a third reason too, but I forgot it.
22 | Question of one word in Romans 8:38-39 | Rom 8:39 | nathanbgerman | 234839
I have a question on one word in Romans 8:38-39. That word is "love". Recently, I have heard many people speak about this verse as saying that nothing can separate the true believer from his/her relationship with God. However, the verse does not say that nothing will be able to separate us from God; it says nothing can separate us from the LOVE of God. God loved us before we accepted him as our savior. Otherwise, he would not have died for us. I believe that God still loves those who never come to know him, but this love alone does not save them. Similarly, nothing can separate the believer from the love of God, but does this really mean that nothing can separate them from God? I may be wrong, but these are just my thoughts on this verse. What do you think?
23 | 1 Timothy 4 vs Romans 8 | 1 Tim 4:1 | nathanbgerman | 234823
There seems to be a contradiction here between 1 Timothy 4 and Romans 8! Romans 8 begins with no condemnation and ends with no separation. The whole chapter seems to support the theory of once saved always saved. However, 1 Timothy 4:1 says, "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons." How do these two parts of scripture fit together?
24 | No, that doesn't work | Ps 45:7 | nathanbgerman | 234784
No, this cannot be talking to God because as my original question states, verse 7 says "your God". God is the only God and therefore does not have his own god.
25 | Meaning of Mark 3:29 | Mark 3:29 | nathanbgerman | 234777
What is the meaning of Mark 3:29. It is kind of scary to think that there is an unforgivable sin. I do not believe I have committed this sin for I can still feel the Spirit working in me. However, I fear the possibility of committing it in the future. This verse seems kind of contradictory to other verses to me. For example, Romans 10:13 says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 13:39 says that everyone who believes is set free from every sin. John 3:16 says that whoever believes in Christ has eternal life. In John 5:24, Jesus himself says, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” How can this be? How can Jesus say ALL sins are forgiven for all who believe and then name one sin that will NEVER be forgiven? One thing I've been told a few times is that this sin means unbelief, but I'm not sure I agree with that explanation. Why then does Mark include the verse after saying "He said this because they said he has an impure spirit."? |

26 | Who is Psalm 45 talking to? | Ps 45:7 | nathanbgerman | 234766
Who is Psalm 45 talking to? Over and over in the chapter, David uses the word "you". In most of the Psalms, he seems to be talking to God, but not here. In verse 7, David says "your God" so it is obviously not talking to God.
