21 | First Century Second Coming? | John 5:19 | Fatherof4 | 127715
Steve, Step back and read all of Matthew 16. Does is really make sense to split off the last verse as to referring to something different? "the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels" is the same as "the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." So where is the "reward each person according to what he has done." In the Transfiguration. When Jesus says "I tell you the truth" or "Verily I say unto you", he is always referring to the point he just made. As far as Luke 21:31-33, put yourself in the place of the original audience. Wouldn't you think that YOU were to "see these things happening" in YOUR generation? The kicker is that this generation did witness "Jeruslem surrounded by armies" (Luke 21:20) during the seige by the Romans leading up to Jerusalem's destruction in AD 70. |

22 | How do we know we're in the end times? | Is 1:1 | Fatherof4 | 127714
I am a full Preterist as far as I understand that to be. I believe the Second Coming / Final Judgement to be in the past. I can't speak for God's plans, but I do not believe the Bible predicts another coming. I consider all prophecy in the Bible fufilled. Based on how I read it, I do not see in the Bible that God is planning to destroy the earth in "another" final judgement event.
23 | First Century Second Coming? | John 5:19 | Fatherof4 | 127709
Angel. Thank you for the well referenced reply. Re-read those scriptures. Doesn't it strike you that these events were to come upon THAT very generation in the first century? By what basis do you split Matt 16:27 and 28? It seems to me that these are one and the same event. Supported by Luke 21:31-33 in regard to THAT generation. You say no date is set, but the scriptures you cited seem to demonstrate that to the original audience that THEY should be expecting Jesus return in Judgement upon their OWN generation. I don't see any reason here that we should be still expecting these events to occur sometime in our own generation or in a future generation. It Jesus contempories who were to "keep watch." The apostate Jews were literally "cut to pieces' in AD 70. "the secret power of lawlessness" was already at work in the first century, and the lawless one was already being held back at that time. Which tells me, again, that these events were all first century events. |

24 | Disciples will not die | Matt 16:28 | Fatherof4 | 127696
Let's take Jesus at his word in the plain language you see here (and in the surrounding verses) What do we know (1) Jesus was going to return in Judgement (2) His return was going to take place in THAT generation (before all of them died). The only event that fills this prophecy is the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Jesus did not return in judgement (with reward) in the Transfiguration or in Acts 2. http://www.preterism.info
25 | Matthew 16:28 | Matt 16:28 | Fatherof4 | 127695
Jesus means the physical death and nothing else. Only some of them standing there died before his 2nd Coming. The "Second Coming" occurred in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Note the surrounding verses mention Him coming with reward/judgement. The Transfiguration simply does not fit the bill! http://www.preterism.info.
26 | what about Matt. 16:27 | Matt 16:28 | Fatherof4 | 127693
Mommapbs, OK so you see Matt. 16:27-28 as Second Coming verses. I agree. Did you notice that Jesus said he was returning in THAT very generation (before all of them died)? The Second Coming is history. http://www.preterim.info.
27 | Matt 16:28 some and see | Matt 16:28 | Fatherof4 | 127691
OK.. you're probably waiting an answer from Mr. Moran, but please excuse me as I interject. Read Matt 16:28 in context. It is referring to the Lord coming in judgement. What can we discern? (1) Jesus was saying he would return in Judgment (2) Jesus would return in THAT generation (before all standing there died). What historical event fits the bill? The destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 and no other. Neither the Transfiguration or the John's vision on Patmos include a "reward/judgement" event. There is no need to try and twist the plain language found here. http://www.preterism.info.
28 | Preterist's view of Zech 14? | Zech 14:4 | Fatherof4 | 127606

29 | shaking off the dust? | Rom 5:9 | Fatherof4 | 127604
Read Matthew 25:31-46, where in the parable of the sheep and the goats, the deciding factor in judgement is how the individual has treated "these brothers of mine". It is the same as in the passage you quoted. In the impending Final Judgement coming swiftly upon Israel in the first century, it would be evident that those who were merciful to the disciples were followers of Jesus (sheep), and any who mistreated or ignored his disciples were to witness God's wrath (goats).

31 | First Century Second Coming? | Not Specified | Fatherof4 | 127597
Did Jesus mean what he said when he talked about his Second Coming occurring in the first century? (Matt. 16:27-28)"…the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." |

33 | How do we know we're in the end times? | Is 1:1 | Fatherof4 | 127590
We are not in the "end times" because the "end times" ended in 70 A.D. If you've never heard of preterism, you should read the articles at http://www.preterism.info. For instance, check out Matt. 16:27-28 "…the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." Therefore, the "Second Coming" must have occurred in the first century. |
