21 | Scripture the School of the HS | Jer 9:20 | EdB | 244015
I totally agree we just have to understand what scripture is really saying when it conveys to the human mind the concept of predestination. God transcends time therefore many mistakenly misunderstand knowledge of an event that is yet to occur in the physical realm as something God decreed must occur.
22 | Professions are Verified by Fruit | John 6:60 | EdB | 244014
A big amen to this I know a lot of people that talk about others but there is absolutely no fruit in their life. How sad!
23 | Power of the Holy Spirit | 1 Cor 2:4 | EdB | 244011
When We Stammer and Stutter D. L. Moody was preaching in a theater in London, packed with noblemen and noblewomen, including a prominent member of the royal family. Mr. Moody stood and attempted to read Luke 4:27, “And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet.†When he came to the name of Eliseus, he stammered and stuttered over the pronunciation. He attempted again to read the verse, but he could not properly pronounce “Eliseus.†Even after a third attempt, Moody still faltered. He then closed his Bible with deep emotion, and looking up, said, “Oh, God, use this stammering tongue to preach Christ crucified to these people.†The power of God then came upon him, and those in attendance, who had heard him before, stated that they had never seen such an anointing on Moody as they saw that night. His words began to flow with eloquence, and the whole audience was melted by the power of God’s Word. “My preaching was not with persuasive words, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power†(1 Corinthians 2:4). “God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. The weaker I became, the more powerful became the preaching†(BillyGraham). Excerpt from David Arnold's High Honor Too many today try to convince, persuade others of God and the need for salvation by using eloquent speech instead of relying on the Power of the Holy Spirit. |

24 | Good Sheperd | John 10:11 | EdB | 244008
WHERE JUSTICE AND MERCY MEET Pastor Tom Carter told how, a day or two before he was to preach at the Crystal Palace, he went to decide where the pulpit should be placed. To test the acoustics of the building, he shouted with a loud voice, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!†A man who knew nothing of what he was doing was working in one of the balconies. He heard the words, and they were like a message from Heaven to him. He was overcome with conviction for his sin, laid down his tools, went home, and surrendered his life to Christ. He later, on his deathbed, told a friend of this incident. R. Whitson Seaman said, “It is at the cross where Justice and Mercy meet.†Such words as crux, crucial, and excruciating come from the Latin word for cross, expressing excruciating, terrible pain. In John 10:11, Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.†The word “gives†is usually translated “lays down.†“For the sheep†signifies “on their behalf.†The good Shepherd gave His life freely, and voluntarily, that He might deliver them from death and have eternal life. The Ethiopic Version reads, “The good Shepherd gives His life for the redemption of the sheep.†“Down headlong from their native skies The rebel angels fell, And thunderbolts of flaming wrath Pursued them deep to hell. Down from the top of earthly bliss Rebellious man was hurled; And Jesus stooped beneath the grave To reach a sinking world.†It is twice blessed: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes. ‘Tis mightiest in the mightiest. It becomes The throned monarch better than his crown. His sceptre shows the force of temporal power, The attribute to awe and majesty Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings, But mercy is above this sceptered sway. It is enthroned in the hearts of kings. It is an attribute to God Himself, And earthly power doth then show likest God’s When mercy seasons justice.†“Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy†(Micah 7:18). Excerpt from David Arnold's Morning Muse |

28 | Isn't it time to say good night? | Bible general | EdB | 244001
Justme I totally agree, once denominational agendas become common place true Bible Study stops. It is a sad to see since I was a charter member and at the inception of this forum everyone involved had very high hopes for the forum. We even tried to keep it free of denominational bickering by instituting rules. However they got cast to wind and we arrived to the place we find ourselves today. Sad indeed! |

31 | Let Go of Offenses and Resentments | Deut 6:3 | EdB | 243988
It is not who,or what we quote that makes us Christ like. It is how we live. Do we seek to conform to the rules under which we move or do we seek to present our agenda. Denominational dogma, denominational attempts to debase another denomination, attempts to mock another's theology has no place on this forum. Conformity to the stated guidelines do much to contribute to peace among all. |

32 | Let Go of Offenses and Resentments | Deut 6:3 | EdB | 243986
Wow! I thought you would like to know you were repeating quotes. The fact they are boring and draining I thought everyone knew, sorry if it was news to you. |

I would give that quote a hardy Amen!
34 | Let Go of Offenses and Resentments | Deut 6:3 | EdB | 243982
This is a repeat. See post# 243964. Constant quotes are draining and repeated quotes are even more so. |

35 | Preach the Word | Luke 3:3 | EdB | 243979
John Wesley did a great work for God among the miners of Cornwall. Whole villages were transformed from gambling, swearing, and Sabbath-breaking people to men and women of sobriety and godliness. In every home was to be found a picture of John Wesley, the man whom they all loved. One day, a stranger visiting one of these humble homes, seeing John Wesley’s picture on the wall, said, “Whose picture is that?†The old miner reverently lifted his hat, and said, “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.†“The Word of God [concerning the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God] came to John son of Zachariah in the wilderness (desert). And he went into all the country round about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance (of hearty amending of their ways, with abhorrence of past wrongdoing) unto forgiveness of sin, crying, Prepare the way of the Lord†(Luke 3:2 – 4). 36 | Bible Study? | Bible general | EdB | 243976
Welcome Douglas This forum is a Bible Study building a Study Bible. May I suggest you pick a Book, Chapter or verse and make a comment or ask a question and the Study of that chosen passage will begin. Remember since there is no designated moderator it will be up to you to keep the Study moving forward in a productive manner. Not to discourage you but the layout of the forum makes it very difficult to discuss most anything without controversy and bickering, but with God all things are possible. |

37 | Need input on what felt like a "message" | 2 Pet 1:12 | EdB | 243970
John 10:1-5 (NKJV) 1 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." Hi PJSR Read the above passage, pay particular attention to verse 4. We must know our Shepherd’s voice! You started out by saying you didn’t know if you were a Christian or not. That is the first thing you need to settle before you try to decide whether a thought you had was of the Lord or not. You say you are questioning the Lord, why? Are you attending a church? Have you talked to your Pastor? If you say no to any of these you need to be in church and you need to be in fellowship with your pastor and talking these things over with him. As far as the message if I understand correctly you got two numbers 26 and 12 and you said you were going to read those verses. In which book? In which chapter? Many will tell you that Holy Spirit no longer talks to us, but that is simply untrue. Flee from those that say such things they are false teachers. The Holy Spirit does not change, His ministry is not limited. But beware Satan’s lying spirits also talks to us. Therefore we must know our Shepherds voice. Until you do, do not listen to any voice! My advice and I hope you take it is to decide why you question Jesus, until that issue is settled in your spirit you CAN NOT move forward. Once you get it settled in your heart, mind and spirit that Jesus is Lord then if you have questions come back here and ask. Until then attend church and talk to your pastor. |

38 | No examples | Matt 28:1 | EdB | 243963
I would agree that some believe that but I believe them to be wrong. A crucifixion on the Jewish sabbath would have caused a uproar and possible rebellion of the Jews. Certainly the Jews would not have participated as shown they did in scripture. The Sabbath runs from sun down Friday to sundown Saturday. Also because it was The Passover there would have been a Sabbath from sun down Thursday to sun down Friday. That convinces me Jesus was crucified before sun down Thursday and remained in the grave until Sunday. Thus 3 days and three nights in the grave. However tradition teaches Jesus was crucified before Sundown Fri and arose Sunday. To me that let's us a night short Thursday day, Sabbath night and day Saturday night and day arose If h had been crucified Wed. It would be Wednesday, Thursday night and day which was the The Passover Sabbath, Friday night and day which would be the weekly Sabbath and arose Sunday. That is the only way there would be three days and three nights. Most people miss the title of scripture of The Sabbath John 19:31. There is only one The Sabbath in Jewish culture it is the The Sabbath of the Passover. Many will try to refute using all kinds of fabricated explanations and that is okay. Make your own decision. What is important Jesus, innocent of all sin was crucified, His blood poured out as a perfect sacrifice for our sin, thus saving us. And He arose proving that death had no hold and all that would arise again in the resurrection. Some to eternal damnation and some to eternal heaven. John 3:16 tells to be saved we must believe. Do not let any concern over days and nights or other doctrines/traditions of man make you lose focus on that truth. The Blood of Jesus was the eternal perfect sacrifice for your sin and you must accept this to be saved. |

39 | Watch your soul | Phil 4:8 | EdB | 243954
Be careful what books you read, for as water tastes of the soil it runs through, so does the soul taste of the authors that a man reads. -- John Trapp
40 | Wolves Among the Sheep | Ezek 22:27 | EdB | 243952
Problem as in the parable of wheat and tares only God or the Angels so charged can make accurate determination. Unless someone denies Jesus, denies the resurrection, denies the truth of the gospels it is nearly impossible to find the wolves. Many people think they can but most are bitter, bigoted and hateful that want people to think they are deeply Christian. They want to be fruit inspectors but were never given the job. If a person confesses Jesus as Lord only God knows for sure if he is sheep or wolf. |
