21 | Could Jesus get off cross if he wanted? | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 226619
Thanks Ed! It's good to see you're on the same page as far as encouraging some of our visitors to do their own reading assignments. It's really disheartening to see so many that are unwilling to even read the Scriptures. What a lost opportunity! How unfortunate it is, to not even have a desire to read what the almighty, wise beyond words, and all loving God, has chosen to reveal to us lowly humans.-John

Hello Pakman, Welcome to the forum! I think Brother Makarios, has given you a good answer, but here is, if I may, give you another possibility or example that speaks of the kind of dedication and love a husband should have for his wife... that is, to lay down his life for her: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word," Eph 5:25-26 -John |

Given some of the inane content of this thread, I am often reminded of something our Brother Hank wrote, and I'm so glad I asked him directly if I could quote him on it, and I never get tired of doing so!-John “I lay no claim whatever to any expertise on matters involving High Theology or anything of the kind, so I'm fairly well limited when it comes to trying to connect the dots. And that is good! It forces me to attempt to speak only where the Bible speaks and to keep my mouth shut where the Bible is silent. I have enough trouble learning and digesting what the Bible clearly reveals, and so it leaves me no time to speculate and ruminate on the things which our loving and all-wise Father chose not to elaborate. God's eternal and unchanging word will be around long after I'm gone. Few indeed are they who care about my opinions now and fewer still will remember them after I've gone. So my candid view about questions such as call for speculations is this: If God did not choose to reveal details, is it our business to worry very much about them? I really don't believe that God expects us to fill in the blanks ourselves nor needs man to take over where He left off, do you? Just how important is it to know about such things? The narrative has endured and imparted the message it was intended to impart for centuries as it is, without being gussied up with all these minute frills and details. Let's be content to learn from it all that it clearly reveals without tarnishing the sacred record by adding our worthless speculation and groundless guesses.” –Hank Hallmark |

Dear Elizabeth, Welcome to the forum! We have been blessed by the graciousness of our host to have this venue to read and study along with others what myself and countless people over the ages consider as the most sacred and profound book ever written, in fact, 'The Bible' is the reveled word of God Himself! Having said that, please understand too that this is a Bible study, not some 'self help' website or some place like a Dear Abby column in the local newspaper. Hence the name, StudyBibleForum. I would like very much to encourage you to please know and understand that we are not picking on you, or singling you out as someone for practicing our lectures on. We all i.e. most of us old timers, strive very hard to keep and follow the guidelines and rules set down by our so very gracious host, The Lockman Foundation. So, my friend, Elizabeth, please read and be sure to understand the TOU 'Terms of Use' before you post to this forum, and please remove your personal advertising from your User Profile. Failure to do this may result in your removal from this forum. -John |

29 | psalms... judgement chapter 1 verse 5 | Rev 20:15 | stjohn | 225669
Excuse me Ariel... I'm sorry But, the word just before destruction is everlasting. Now I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I think 'everlasting' means everlasting. So can you please give me some reasonable explanation, or even better, some other scripture that would give support for your conclusion that there is an end to it? Otherwise, I'm afraid I'd have to strongly differ, since to my knowledge, Scripture is pretty clear that hell, or the lake of fire, or destruction, or whatever else orthodoxy calls it, it is indeed everlasting, eternal punishment. -John p.s. I did note your question marks, so I'm assuming that you expected to be challenged. |

"The heart overflows with gladness, and leaps and dances for the joy it has found in God. In this experience the Holy Spirit is active, and has taught us in the flash of a moment the deep secret of joy. You will have as much joy and laughter in life as you have faith in God." — Martin Luther |

Cheri, would you mind very much giving an old man with a limited ability to communicate a break and speak in English? What is, "r snf r" and "TY!" Many of us are not as savvy as some others, so please for the respect of the fact that some who visit here have a limited ability and some do not speak English as a first language, please keep your communiqué as clear as posable. Thanks! -John
37 | What is "entering into God's rest?" | NT general | stjohn | 224978
New Heaven, New Earth, New Jerusalem. I see nothing that would indicate that we will be confined to any one place. Someone said it cant be 'both' Heaven and Earth. Why not? Why wouldn't we have access to both the New Heaven and the New Earth? And why would The New Jerusalem have unlocked openings if we should be confined to it alone? Creation is immense beyond our imagination and, forever is way to long to stay in one place! I should think after a few kabillion years, I for one, should like to go see what God hath wrought! :-) 1 Cor 2:9. Two cents worth? I'm not sure, but it's just something I've been ruminating...-John

Thank you, Brother Brad, for sharing that. There are few men indeed that have come so close to that pinnacle of godliness as Edwards! When I read him and those like him; it makes me feel like Im slacking, but, alas, we are a far reach from men such as these, who have gotten it so right and given so much of themselves to promulgate sound doctrine for so many to be edified through the millennia. God has been so gracious to us by giving them to us. -John

Doc, thanks for that link; Mark Dever is one of my favorite lecturer's. I've listened to literally hundreds of hours of his teaching and I think he's one of the best one's out there. But because of my very slow dial-up connection I cant very practically watch video, it just takes up far too much time to download. Can you please find out if it's available in an audio format?
