21 | Who are "your opponents/" | Phil 1:28 | prayon | 155855
I am like you - sometimes I am also more tolerant and compromising, on the other hand though when we know that about ourselves I believe we are more on guard - at least I am. The one thing I find that I must do is pray for the spirit of discernment so that if I miss the advasary God will "wake me up". prayon

26 | Simon didn't HEAR but SAW something | Acts 8:18 | prayon | 148621
Steve you and i could go round and round forever, but I am stopping it here. You believe that I am on dangerous ground and am making assumptions well if I am I am in some very good company - These people believe that the sign Simon saw was speaking in tongues- the same as I do: Albert Barnes (see his Notes on the Bible) John Gill ( See his exposition on the bible) Matthew Henry (see his commentary) Adam Clarke (see his commentary John MacArthur(see his study bible) Robertson (See Robertson's Word Pictures) These are some very wise and knowledgeable men whose work has been used for centuries. I doubt they are all wrong. prayon |

27 | Being filled w/ the Spirit mean tongues? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 148613
The bible says Simon "saw". We know that the Holy Spirit can not be seen with the physical eye since He is a Spirit. But he "saw" or witnessed the power of speaking in tongues If we look at Acts 19:6. (And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied)and Acts 22:4 (And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance) we know that with the laying on of hands and the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost) that they spoke in tongues. So what Simon "saw" was the evidence of the Holy Spirit which is speaking in tongues. prayon ps I agree it would of been much easier if he would of used the word heard instead of saw.... |

29 | Who groans - us or the Holy Spirit? | Rom 8:26 | prayon | 148587
I take this statement another way - not that we do not know how to pray - We do, Jesus taught us in Matt 5:5-15. I believe that this statement means that we do not always know what we need to pray for. Too many times the flesh enters into our prayers and we pray for what our flesh would want which is not necessarily what we need. prayon |

31 | what is the importance of tongues? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 148198
Greetings Kalois, on the first point (Acts 4) you are entirely right. It should of read Acts 2:4... my bad... Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, - Praying in the Holy Ghost (or in the Spirit) is praying in tongues. John 14:16,17 - Is debatable but this is the context I am coming from: Continuing to pray and worship in tongues helps us to be ever conscious of His indwelling presence. If I can be conscious of the indwelling Holy Spirit - as praying in tongues does - it is boind to affect the way I live. Romans 8:26 - At the same time the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we don't know how to pray for what we need. But the Spirit intercedes along with our groans that cannot be expressed in words. P. C. Nelson said that the here literally reads,"The Holy Ghost makes intercession for us in groaning that can not be uttered in articulate speech." Articulate speech means our regular kind of speech. James 3:8 Yielding your tongue to the Holy Spirit to speak with other tongues is a giant step forward fully yielding all of yourself to God, because if you can yield this most unruly part of your body you can yield any part. I hope that makes where I am coming from a little clearer kalos, prayon |

32 | what if a christian is married to non-ch | 2 Cor 6:14 | prayon | 146980
Greetings, When someone is married to an unbeliever God prefers that you stay in the marriage to be a "light" to the unbeliever - however God does not necessarily want us to remain in an abusive relationship either. We do not give council on the forum because the majority of the users do not have the training to council. What we recommend is that you go to your pastor or other certified Christian counselor. I am sorry that I could not be of more help to you. I will tell you this: REMEMBER! You are the child of a king! YOU are so important to Christ that He hung on a cross and died for you! Do not let the abusive names you are called enter into your mind, heart, or spirit for even a second. Rebuke them immediately! May God bless you with wisdom, strenght and courage. prayon |

35 | N.A. or not? | Mark 4:20 | prayon | 145376
Hi Angel, Very true but I didn't mean to 'preach' the name of Jesus at the meetings. What I was referring to give God the glory whenever possible. For instance "Hi my name is ---- and Thanks to God I am free from narcotics". or "Because of the strength God gave me I am free of narcotics" You are right - to just walk in and preach could lead to problems. prayon |

38 | please explain proberbs 18:21 | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 145296
Greetings Hank, Boy do I feel like I opened the proverbial hornets nest! You are correct, it is not written in any certain verse. I think it is more of faith and may be considered a principle. For example, it you ask God to heal your body you don't keep saying "I'm soo sick" - you say I am healed in the name of Jesus. You speak those things that are not as if they were. In the case of the car, you can't make a car run by claiming it will but if you live by faith that it will, you will take better care of it and in the end it will last longer. You have the faith that God will provide what you are speaking in a matter of sense. Everything that happens is by God's command and God's will only, we ourselves can not change anything. It may be too that God will give us what we speak - for instance if we continually say that we are sick God may give us what we speak and we will become sick. Does this make it a little clearer what I meant to say? prayon |

39 | N.A. or not? | Mark 4:20 | prayon | 145240
Hi Angel, Why not bring Jesus name into the meeting? One should testify of the power of Jesus and His mercy whenever and wherever the opportunity arises. In testifying about God's goodness or allowing our light to shine (and not hide it under a bushel as the song goes) one never knows who will be led to Christ. prayon
40 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145237
Greetings, I really worded that wrong, sorry. Yes they are 2 different things. When you are saved you give the Holy Ghost the ability to enter. For example, suppose you just bought a house and it did not have any electricity yet. You call the power company to turn it on. They send a member of the power company to turn it on for you. You have given them permission to come, but until you invite him into your house to turn the power on you do not have the power. Once you invite him in he is able to turn the power on. It is the same with the Holy Spirit. Once you have asked God for salvation the Holy Spirit has the right to come to the "door of your life' and knock, but until you invite Him iyou do not have His power. But once you invite Him and He enters you do not have the access to His power. I hope this make more sense. prayon I hope that makes it a little clearer. prayon |
