21 | cain was of the evil one | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231085
1 John 3:10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous. This passage seems pretty straight forward to me if you've read the story and Cain and Able. Why don't you re-read it and come back to us with your response. I'd love to talk about it. It could all be summed up from Jesus Words in... Matt 12:30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad. Of course, here Jesus is speaking for the whole Godhead. As God sees all mankind there's two groups of people as clearly depicted in... Matt 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. and Matt 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. 22 | gods blessing goes to younger not older | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231068
Quoted from Cheagan: "Anyone wanna take a stab at the theological implications?" I've always been taught this was a demonstration of God's Wisdom over man's wisdom. You see, like a small child we human beings read the scriptures below but it doesn't seem to register with us until we get smacked in the face with the "cold harsh reality of God's Ways," in the form of a humbling session. 1 Cor 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Cor 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 Therefore let no one boast in men. and Is 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. We just have to accept the fact in God's World, His Ways, His Thoughts are about as far above ours as our ways and thoughts are above the insect world, maybe a little more distant. Go with God in all things, Bill PS: And the answer is Yes. I too have had my humbling session with God; as a matter of fact, several times. |

23 | Prophecies in Isaiah | OT general | Bill Richardson | 231053
I always like to wrap up my posts on the Forum with a reminder from Paul... Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Go with God in all things, my friend. Bill |

24 | How to treat non-believers? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231052
Along with Beja's good answer, I can only add another note. When we look at the example left by our Lord, we should follow His Lead and try to be merciful and compassionate. Mark 6:33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. and of course the wonderful example from Paul... 1 Cor 9:19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. But there again, I also think the Lord does draw a line when the unbelievers go too far and show their total lack of respect for God's Will as Jesus said in... Matt 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. So what am I saying? I'm saying as long as there's the slightest chance a person might be reached with the Gospel, we shouldn't give up hope. We should continue to teach when we can, live as best we can to "be at peace with all men," like Beja mentioned with scripture. Then maybe with the seed we've planted, the Lord can work on their conscience and maybe even humble them in His Own Way and bring them around. But when it's obvious the person in question only shows complete, absolute disdain for God and everything about Him, then we should turn and find someone else to share God's Gift and not waste our time, "casting pearls to swine." But again, we should never show anger or frustration to such a person. Even this person can be humbled by the Lord and we His vessels should never close a door where the Lord might step thru and save such an individual. Go with God in all things, Bill |

25 | Please define AD and BC (time). | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231050
I must admit, I don't care for the changeover to CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era). They still use the same year, the one in which our Lord was born in spite of the 4 year "slip-up." The things our secular world does to bring it in alignment with being "politically correct," just so as to not offend our non-Christian friends and neighbors. This whole world operated for two thousand years and designed its calendar around this earth-shaking event, birth of our Lord, thus "giving Him all the preeminence." And now they want to change it. I don't care when I work on my school papers for my college course, I plan on using BC and AD in protest. Call me a radical but I prefer to think I'm following some pretty big footsteps, Peter and John in... Acts 5:29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. Sorry, just had to vent. Go with God in all things. Bill |

28 | Hosea and the significance of three | OT general | Bill Richardson | 231045
The most powerful example showing significence of three days, at least in my mind, is that of Christ spending "three days in the heart of the earth" as He compared this to that of Jonah. Matt 12:38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” 39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. Man lusts for signs and miracles but Jesus was disappointed in the immaturity of these people. He wanted them to grow up and recognize all the signs and miracles He had already performed and accept Him as God as we do in this timeframe. As He said, Jesus' most powerful miracle would be His own Ressurection. Yes, there had been people in the past who had been raised from the dead but this was a first. No one had ever raised Himself from the dead as cited in... Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. This event was absolutely unique in the entire History of the World. And of course it is one of the principle foundations of our faith as described in... 1 Cor 15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. Yes, Totally Awesome. Go with God in all things, Bill |

30 | Do sinners have at least some guilt. | OT general | Bill Richardson | 231030
I'm in absolute and full agreement with that. Only Jesus could provide the Perfect Sacrifice and His Blood to pay for our's, you, me and the rest of the world. As you've alluded, God's Absolute Sense of Complete Justice Demands that someone pay for our sins and that Someone is our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Rom 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; Rom 5:16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. As always, Go with God in all things. Bill |

I apologize as I goofed. Quoted from previous post: "God the Father was the Dominent Figure during the Patriarchal Age, Genesis thru Abraham with the Law of Moses during the Jewish Age thru Malachi." I should have cited as follows: Dominent Figure during the Patriarchal Age, Genesis thru Jacob. I forgot about the fact that the Law of Moses was not instituted until Mount Siani. 32 | is jesus god? | Col 1:18 | Bill Richardson | 231023
It's helpful to understand there's been three major Dispensations in the Bible. What is a dispensation, you ask? From BibleGateway: Dispensation (Gr. oikonomia, "management," "economy"). The method or scheme according to which God carries out his purposes towards men is called a dispensation. There are usually reckoned three dispensations, the Patriarchal, the Mosaic or Jewish, and the Christian. (See COVENANT, Administration of.) These were so many stages in God's unfolding of his purpose of grace toward men. God the Father was the Dominent Figure during the Patriarchal Age, Genesis thru Abraham with the Law of Moses during the Jewish Age thru Malachi. Jesus the Son, of course started the Christian Age with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, Matthew thru Revelation. So you see all three of the Godhead did participate in the Creation as evidenced in Genesis with the use of "We" in the first chapter. So naturally, Jesus did Know and Hear all of what went on in the Garden of Eden; He just didn't show Himself like His Father did. But as you've already made clear Christ gets all the preeminence in this Dispensation, as given to Him by His Father. So is it a teamwork thing? Not sure; I'd like to think so as Jesus prays in John 17. And you make a good point when the disciples saw Jesus, they saw the Father, John 14:9. BUT another powerful point proving the distinction of the two separate Beings is the fact that no man can see God the Father and live. Ex 33:17 So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” 18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.” 19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” 21 And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” One must read all of what God has to say on this matter to gain a full understanding of this Trinity along with the separateness of the Godhead. Keep studying; you'll get it. Go with God in all things, Bill |

33 | is jesus god? | Col 1:18 | Bill Richardson | 231020
I can understand your difficulty; there are many people that believe as you do. But the ultimate conclusion, at least in my mind must agree with the whole Bible, as Paul preached in... Acts 20:17 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18 And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19 serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20 how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. So how does one rationalize all the scriptures you've cited with the ones I provided in my previous post? Yes a very challenging question indeed. One last bit of scripture and I'll hush. 1 Cor 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. Go with God in all things, trust Him, keep studying and He'll Bless you with the Answer. Bill |

36 | Symbolic meaning of a "well" | OT general | Bill Richardson | 230891
Well said my dear friend Azure. The most powerful example (of which I can think) of what Azure is saying in response to Anjaromanov's query is from Jesus Himself from John 4. In that story, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well. Notice even His disciples question their Lord's Wisdom in speaking with this woman. And Jesus shares one of the most powerful and profound facts of the future recorded in the Bible, in my humble opinion. Jn 4:19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 BUT THE HOUR IS COMING, AND NOW IS, WHEN THE TRUE WORSHIPERS WILL WORSHIP THE FATHER IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH; FOR THE FATHER IS SEEKING SUCH TO WORSHIP HIM. 24 GOD IS SPIRIT, AND THOSE WHO WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH.” What are we to take away from this story? I'm thinking the most powerful point is: We should just trust our Lord, most especially when He says something bizarre in our thinking. We should look at whatever it is we're considering and re-think about it after discarding all the prejudices from our world of humanity and try to see the subject from God's perspective. But back to the business of the well as has been mentioned. To me, it just seems this is another case of people gathering at the "watering hole" as in the western movies or around the "water fountain" at our place of employment. It seems natural for us to pause for a moment, enjoy the bit of refreshment and talk with those others gathered at the same place, same time. I have to agree with Azure; nothing mysterious about it. We do need to take God's Word as straight forward as possible with the best Commentary coming from other scriptures between Genesis 1 to Revelation 22. The passages with figurative language do lend themselves to much controversy but the most important item to remember is to gather a message from these figurative passages in compliment to the rest of our Bible as reflected in... 1 Cor 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. I must admit; I don't know exactly to respond to all this. I posted my response to you just this morning, 9:18 AM with over a dozen scriptures to support my position. I go to Bible Class and Worship with fellow christians and come back to the Forum, discover my latest post has been deleted. Whew! All that work, copying and pasting wasted. And now you ask me about this other fellow, Inquisitor. Am I to infer some hidden message here? Am I being punished without a proper hearing or trial? Can you please explain all this to me? Did you delete my previous post? If so, please tell me why. And you call this "Speaking the Truth in Love"? Please elaborate how your words and actions qualifies in this regard. I'm thinking the perfect analogy to all this is the one from our Lord... Matt 9:10 Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “THOSE WHO ARE WELL HAVE NO NEED OF A PHYSICIAN, BUT THOSE WHO ARE SICK. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” When we as patients go to our doctor, we rely on him/her to figure out our ailment, prescribe the correct medicine and/or treatment, i.e. therapy, etc. IF we don't follow the doctor's instructions, we can't blame him if we don't get well. We only have ourselves to blame. In the same line of reasoning, our Lord knows our problem and has issued the prescription for all mankind. It's up to us to accept His Wisdom and follow His Commands to rid our souls of the dark blight of sin. IF we don't follow His Commands, then we only have ourselves to blame on Judgment Day. Good discussion. Go with God and all His Commands and He'll Bless us with His Home in Heaven. Bill |

40 | What is the meaning? | NT general | Bill Richardson | 230832
Just a correction on the post above: Matt 13:48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. This quote is from the Book of Acts, not Matthew; the chapter and verse are correct however. Sometimes my keyboard just needs retraining. Ha-Ha. Thanks for your patience. Proofreading is sometimes a challenge. Go with God always. Bill |
