21 | Why am I dealt so much | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 238554
Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Will you be more specific with your question? It would be helpful to know what you mean by "some are dealt". For example, who is dealing it to them?
22 | Accounts of Revival | Acts 10:44 | jlhetrick | 238372
Hi Bill, I think an important part of this discussion would be a defining of Revival. We have folks running around the world putting up tents calling “revivals" out of thin air on a nightly basis, arriving and ending perfectly at the coordinated time prescribed by the organizers. For me, I lean toward believing that God will determine the time and place of any true revival and yes, I do believe the Church is involved, I just don’t think it’s done through Outlook meeting invites (or signs posted around town) nor can it be commanded on time and place by people. Of course I could be wrong… I just don’t find support for that in Scripture. I once saw a chicken actually running around the yard with no head (after my father separated the two) it went on for what seemed like 30 seconds or more. I of course didn’t believe this to be a miracle and had a man been standing their preaching I still would not have convinced myself it was a miracle (even at the age of 6 years old). People have been rising up out of wheel chairs and throwing down their crutches at these “revivals” for a very long time. I have even personally met one who claims he witnessed (at a revival) God miraculously put a mouthful of gold caps on his nieces “diseased teeth” (though I couldn’t bring myself to ask why he thought God needed or chose to use gold caps instead of simply healing the teeth in the first place - I wondered if the caps had lot numbers embossed). Of course we have multiple accounts (In Scripture) where people were able to FAKE even some seemingly complex “miracles”. We should not be looking for miracles as signs of revival but evidence of people saved instead. Some, even in the church, believe the weeks following the 911 attacks on the US were nothing short of a revival. Churches were packed to capacity for weeks after and the sale of spiritual literature sky-rocketed. I’m hopeful many were saved during that time but if they were it was because they heard the preaching of the Word about Christ the savior and through that God gave them the faith to believe (Romans 10:17). This may have actually been revival but I don’t know of any claims of physical miracles attributed. The Country, on the other hand, is no doubt more sinful and further from God today than it was on 9/10/2001 In remembering the words of Jesus, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.” (Matthew 16:4, NASB) I believe it’s of the highest importance that we understand what and where our thoughts and energy should be where the things of God are concerned. I don’t believe we should be looking for signs and miracles beyond that of individual regeneration of lost people. |

23 | Wife supports sinfull son | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 238188
Hi, and welcome to the Forum. first let me say I agree with EdB but would like to add the following for thought. Participating in or contributing to sin is never the right answer; however, being merciful and acting with grace toward the sinner always is. If you and me were to honestly and carefully consider our own daily sinfulness we will be truly humbled by the mercy and the loving grace that God does afford us. After all, my sin and your sin is no less sinful to God than that sin of your wife's son. As a parent of adult children I try always to remember, when my children disappoint me, that God has already given me the answer in how to deal with them. I won't approve of their sin (no more than He would approve of mine) yet I will never abandon them or stop loving them and doing all I can to protect and correct them. Hope this helps. |

24 | once sasved always saved? | Luke 23:43 | jlhetrick | 238187
Hi and welcome to the Forum. This is a much debated question/topic and you will likely get both the answer yes and no from many hear and anywhere else you pose the question. It has been debated for longer than you and I have been alive and will continue to be a debate between Christians until the truth is revealed in Glory. You might try various searches in the Search boxes to the right and see what you come up with. Better than that though, would be to begin a serious study of Scripture for yourself and see what is revealed to you. With that said, I would point you to Romans 8:26 and keep reading through the end of the chapter and work out from there. Paul wrote of our victory in Christ Jesus and it certainly appears to me that he, Paul did not believe the finished work of Christ could be undone by anything at all. Hope this gives you a good start. |

26 | was peter a roman | NT general | jlhetrick | 238179
Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Peter was a Jew who lived and ran a fishing business in Bethsaida of Galilee, Israel. Tradition has Peter spending the later part of his life in Rome and being crucified there but whether he was ever made a Roman Citizen I can't say. I assume that information might be found somewhere in historical records if one was interested in spending the time and energy researching it. |

27 | how far does a pastors authority go in a | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 238177
Hi and welcome to the Forum. A pastor may be looked at as a leader but he is not the authority. That role is God's alone. He has given us His word, the Bible, so that we know how to live our lives. Pastors might participate with the church elders to shepherd the church which might include biblically based discipline. Both the shepherding and the discipline is not on the authority of the pastor but that of Scripture. Hope this helps |

28 | To whom does this refer to? | 2 Tim 3:1 | jlhetrick | 238167
Hi, and welcome to the Forum. The characteristics of those referred to in this passage can not be referring to the true church. This is because truly saved people have been changed by the saving work of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. See 2 Corinthians 5 and begin reading at verse 1 but pay special attention to verse 17. This is not to say true Christians are sinless, we continue a struggle against the "flesh". I recommend some study on Sanctification to help understand this. With that said we should keep in mind that the physical or local churches that we all attend do have unsaved people in them (some churches may be mostly filled with the unsaved) so we are seeing (and have been since the early Church) teachings that are far from consistent with Scripture. In addition, we see gross, sinful behaviors from church "members" to include leadership. We see the truth of the gospel watered down and even largely ignored and replaced by gimmicks and orchestrated deliveries of "entertainment" and, of course, an aggressive attempt (often successful) to rob members of their money. In 2 Timothy 3:5 we see Paul saying that these spoken of in the preceding verses have the "appearance" of godliness but deny it's power (the saving and changing power of the work of Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit). Finally, in the same verse Paul warns to "avoid such men as these" (NASB). Paul would never advise to avoid true Christians but instead would (and does in Matthew chapter 18) require that we intervene with misbehaving (sinning) Christians in order to restore them. Hope this helps. |

29 | this is part of my study on genesis | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 238009
Hi Shawn - welcome to the forum. Respectfully, the way you are presenting this it appears as though these are possibly test questions or answers you might need to complete an assignment. If I am wrong please forgive me. If I'm right I would like to recommend that you make the effort to study and seek the answers for yourself. The benefit will be much greater.
30 | Stagnated spiritual growth | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 237988
I don't today but I have to admit that I do from time to time. Without exception those times are always preceded by being distracted from Bible study and allowing myself to be more focused on other things. An interesting thing here is that if you look up the word "Stagnate" in the dictionary you will find "cease developing; become inactive or dull...' as part of the definition. Ephesians 2:10 (ESV) 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. We can only walk in them (the good works we were created for) if we know what they are. We can only know what they are by being in fellowship with God through prayerful study of His Word and having fellowship with other believers. I find that when I am feeling "stagnate" it's because I'm not giving proper attention to those things... every single time. |

31 | can i pray for God to help me win a trip | Luke | jlhetrick | 237822
Hi Jessie - I like Azure's answer and agree fully with it. I might add that when you fix on God's will and pray accordingly He might also bless you with many things beyond needs. In other words He can and does bless us with circumstances and things that we don't necessarily need. What we shouldn't do though is expect Him to. Contrary to what many might say we have no authority to "name it and claim it" in the name of God (not that you are saying that, you don't appear to be). Another way of looking at the Disney trip specifically is this. I don't see that praying to God and sharing your desire to win is in itself sinful. Of course, He already knows you want to win. Don't expect Him to deliver that though. You might also consider how many other true Christians might have entered to win the same trip and may also be praying about it. |

33 | Good evil and evil good? | 2 Tim 4:1 | jlhetrick | 237761
Hi - Scripture vividly describes how people have called good evil and evil good since the very beginning. For example, see Genesis chapter 3 starting with verse 6. God had already said that Adam could not eat from a particular tree. But he agreed with Eve who agreed with the serpent that the tree was "good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise" and so they ate of it in disobedience to God's command. You may be thinking of 2 Timothy 4:3 which says "for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires" (NASB). This, I believe, is speaking specifically of the church; read the entire chapter for context. |

37 | is jesus God. | John 1:1 | jlhetrick | 237189
Hello dimilo - welcome to the Forum. Yes, Jesus is God. This fact is interwoven throughout the whole of Scripture. One place you might start reading to clearly understand this is the Book of John. Start at chapter 1 and read all 21 chapters. While the truth of Jesus being God is established, as mentioned above, throughout the Bible (most clearly in the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) it's my opinion that John puts a significant degree of emphasis on the deity of Jesus. |

39 | bible say women and men equal | Gal 3:26 | jlhetrick | 237145
Hi rscabad - no, the Bible doesn't say that men and women are equal. God did create both men and women very differently and for good reason. Regarding our fallen condition there is no difference between men and women. We are equally sinful and equally lost and equally in need of a savior. Regarding our position in Christ we are equally forgiven and equally saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. There is no special condition applied to a man or to a woman (one over the other) once saved (see Galatians 3:26- 4:7) Additionally, the Bible very clearly holds expectations for men that are unique to men and to women that are unique to women. The idea of male and female equality in every aspect is a secular one and not supported by Scripture. |
