21 | Can faith alone without work save you? | NT general Archive 1 | farout | 38508
Oh Dear friend: You can praise the Lord for Martin Luther of old. While a monk he fought and groped with was it works and faith. While Luther was studing Romans 1 verse 17 he was set free! Faith plus nothing but Jesus Christ equaled salvation! How wonderful, how merceifull. That was the thesis he posted on the Wittenburg door. This was a very vital change in thinking from selling indulgences for sins. A significant historical book is HERE I STAND A Life of Martin Luther by Roland Bainton, Abimgton-Cokesbury Press. I think it was written about 1948. Copies you would most like find in a Good Christian Library or Seminary. Perhaps a used book store, but they are rare and go for 40 dollars. This book is well worth it. You will learn why you are not a Catholic, this I consider vital. Good question, God Bless
22 | Power of the Holy Ghost | NT general Archive 1 | farout | 44151
Dear Elder: Please post your personal info in your profile. Then I would know what and how to answer. By the way the exact translation is Holy Spirit, no where in the greek does it say Ghost it was an error on KJV translators that seems to go on, and on. I have no proof that today anyone has been raised from the dead, and can prove it in the last 200 years, I would like to know more of this. Peace, farout |

23 | did cain marry his sister or someone els | Genesis | farout | 38511
This is a real thouht proviking question, good one too. What ages were Adam and eve when they left the garden? Just for the sake of having a place to start lets say 16 to 24. I am sure Eve and Adam enjoved sexual pleasure. Adam and Eve being as close to physical perfect as possible after their fall, were able to have reproduction capabilities far beyond that we have today. Assume Eve concieved every eighteen months. Which is reasonable even today this happens. Lets assume Eves daughters reached reproctivity ability at 12 to 16 like today. At that rate you could easly have 100 humans in a suprising short time. perhaps 15 to 20 years. Remember Adam and Eve lived a long time. So Cain either married a sister or niece. This was not considered incest at the time. Remember the gene pool was much purer than now. The further the reproductive offspring spreds out the less blood related the children become. I hope this helps I ve keept it real basic.
24 | What is the Omega generation? | Deut 28:1 | farout | 35115
Thess. 4:3 is where it means the gracious design rather than determined resolve. If you have the LORDS clear direction to start a web-based ministry how would it be any different than the hundreds of web-based ministries now? I would not suggest a person apply for a life gaurd position if the fact was they did not know how to swim. To encourage you fellow pilgram, a web-based prayer request ministry is desperatly needed! This will cost you spritual energy, time, and money to keep it running. But real down to earth reaching out to hurting members of the family of God who need prayer is an area I think you could do and not take a lot of knowledge. Please let me know what you do.
25 | Role of fasting in a Christian's walk? | Neh 1:4 | farout | 24890
This is an excellant question, one which I think the real answer just does not jump out at you from any one verse. However, Matthew 17:21 has the key to fastings purpose. I believe thet you will see pure fasting is when one has all their attention devoted to a piticular prayer request, and their attention is so focused that eating would be a distraction. The attitude of completly praying woth no interference is very difficult for me, and perhaps for most, I think. Please check this out as this only my thoughts, I believe fasting is always accompanied with prayer. Jesus said that the religous leaders fasted so others could see their "suffering for GOD" , which was not at all what our Father desires. Ever notice that many fasting people have to tell others they are fasting? Scripture says not to let it show on our faces that we are fasting. I personally do not fast not only for medical reasons, but perhaps my spiritual growth or learning has not gotten to that point. I believe fasting allows for drinking of water and juice or tea, coffee. Friend, perhaps more than "fasting" I find to develope a prayer relationship with the Father, a very awesome and at times difficult "act of faith". Prayer does not come automatic to me. I have to be settled down, and confess my sins, then I give adoration to my Father, the thanksgiving, and suplications(meaning prayer requests. So I use CATS for my personal prayer life. Be strong in the LORD friend, and faithfull in prayer. I hope my sharing helps in some small way. from farout@onemain.com |

26 | NIV comments? | Psalm | farout | 46302
Dear Brother 2ndsamuel22: After reading the other comments made by some Forum members for whom I consider to be quite knowledgeable, and respect very much, I would like to make a few comments. We live in such a fanstic time, we have so much biblical material at our finger tips, oh how blessed we are. First let me say that most Christians, according to poles done by Zondervan Publishing House, in the early nineteen eighties, less than ten percent of all christians read the Bible on a daily basis. Wow, that's pretty sad. over fifty percent of all christians say they never read the Bible. Now that is a rude awakening that says much about christian nuture. Second, with all the versions and translations that are out in english, there is no excuse for anyone who says they are christian not read the Bible! Thirdly, with a few rare exceptions of Bibles made by cults, all Bibles can lead people to the saving faith of Jesus Christ. There are many excellent Bibles, and each has it's own bias and belief in the authority of the Scriptures. Some are quite liberal and see the Bible as good reading, but not more than that. Other Bibles are coming from the view Scripture is the very Word of God. That the Bible as orignally penned was perfect, with error. That is my point of belief as well. Fourth, there in the end paragraph of the NIV in the PREFACE it saya "Like all translations of the Bible, made as they are by imperfect man, this one undoubtedly falls short of its goals...." I would add that anytime you take something being translated from one language to another it always creates some difficulties to make the translation match exactly. There is no way to read exactly what the Bible says word for word unless you read Hebrew and Greek. So we depend on Biblical language schollars to translate these words into english with guidance from the Holy Spirit as best they can. Fifth, The best Bible is the one you will read. I have many versions, and translations. I rread the NIV and the NASB, and at times when I find a passage seems slightly different I do a word by word study. I especially enjoy the Charles B. Williams THE NEW TESTAMENT IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE PEOPLE. The updated NASB is the Bible I use as my bread and butter of word for word. The NASB Study Bible is excellent. I also use the LIFE APPLICATION NIV STUDY BIBLE. Added to my Bibles I have some with no notes just pure scripture. I wand to did out the gold for myself. In more liberal higher education Seminaries use the Revised Standard Version. The Oxford edition is used much of the time. I find it interesting, but again the translators had a lower view of scriptures authority. I am not much of a King James fan, even though I was raised on it and memorized many verses from it. I do not engage in debate over if the King James is the best. For me it is more important that one is in the Word of God, and growing in faith, and renewing our minds. Sixth, When I was at the Christian Book store recently, I spent some time looking at the many Bibles there were. Bibles for children, teenagers, singles, Fathers, Mothers, and so many aimed at special ways to study the Bible. I am amazed at how all these publishers can ever brake even on th cost to come up with so many different Bibles. I am not saying this is bad, but at what point do we need say I al I need is the pure Word of God? Especially if so few really read the Bible? I would say that the NIV as many other Bibles is not perfect. But it is a good Bible, and I enjoy it very much. Peace, farout |

28 | Strategic Spiritual Warfare anyone? | Dan 10:13 | farout | 5220
"The primce of Persia, refers to a demon who was exercesing influence over the Persian realm in the interets of Satan His resistance was finally over cone by the archangel Michael." NASB Study Bible 1999, Zondervan Publishing Hours, Grand Rapids, Michagain. The fact is we are all under some sort of Spiritual warefare. Satan is not present in all places, at all times. However his demonds are many and do his bidding. To pray the protection of Jesus Christ and the Blood he shed for us is a prayer we can seek Gods protection. I would add sometimes I feel we give Satan credit when it is our own sinfull ways that get us in to sin. I would add NO WHERE IN SCRIPTURE does it say we are to communicate with Satin! To say Satan we bind you in the name of Jesus is not scriptual anywhere. That would mean we have talked to the Evil one. As far as I can tell, we are to communicate with Jesus alone. There is one medeator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus. Remember He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. I have been to Boliva twice, and Mexico sever times and all the missonaries have ample evidence that GOD has sent protection for then at times that they were not aware of. And some were very aware of the presence of the proction that was there. In Psalms many many time the writer crys out for Gods protection as he was very aware of that his life was being threatened. The BIBLE is so wonderfully filled to the history that God never fails us. His unfailing love, and steadfastness is with us always! Remember Jesus said I will NEVER LEAVE OR FORSAKE YOU! Even in the Valley of death Juses' Holy Spirit is with us always! Take rest and trust in words of Jesus. |

29 | Children/Baby baptism Scripture? | Mark 16:16 | farout | 46216
Some churches baptize children by sprinkeling them, as a way of what I would call a baby dedication. Some would say they are joined into the body of Christ. Some protestant more "higher" churches would be in this belief. Generally most Baptist would say baptism is for those who have come to know Christ as LORD and want to be obediant and be baptized. Now here again there are differences some sprinkel and others really put the person benieth the water. For me, I find no scripture that says we are to baptize anyone other than one that has come to a saving faith in Christ. I say again others would not agree, but That is my belief.
30 | luke 18:22, | Luke 18:22 | farout | 39860
This man was unwilling to follow Jesus. Jesus asked this Rich ruler to surrender all rights to his possessions. This does not seem to be a universal requirement, but seems to be designed particularly for this man. This is a sumerization of THE EXPOSITORS BIBLE COMMENTARY by Zondervan Publishing House 1984 Volume 8 page 1004. put in my gereral words, I give credit where do. For me to follow Jesus means to surrender your entire life and give Him control over everything. What I think this man lacked was not that he did not sell his belongings, but he did not FOLLOW Jesus. Just how rich was this man? Are not some of us much richer then he was, in compairing what we have today? I stand convicted of being rich compaired to most of the world today. I am continue to follow Jesus and He is my Lord, Boss if you will, and I hope my desire to follow Him is what I do. Do I fail? Yes I do, and I confess my many sins. Jesus has not laid it on my heart to sell all I have. But I think and pray I would if He asked me to. Our salvation is based on faith, by following Jesus. To become Christ like takes a life time, not just a moment. Hope this helps Blessings, farout |

32 | The Forum -- Your Opinion? | Romans | farout | 30502
Hank and others: Romans 14:1-10, are verses that I find seem to fit in to many catagorys. This Forum allows the exchange of convictions, that I call the exchange of dialogue between the weak amd strong in faith. For some it a chance to say why they believe certian ways about issues that may be different than I believe. Romans 14:5-8 permit us to view some days Holy and to eat or restrain from eating. I believe that to have the privledge to share our thoughtsand views on the Christian life and our theology is a spiritual time to check out what others think and weigh their thoughts against Holy Scripture, and see if my ideas are perhaps incomplete. I would refer this forum to anyone, who is a seeker of Yehweh our LORD. I have been blessed to haved attended Grand Canyon University, Midwestern Baptist Seminary, And have two Masters from Central Baptist Theological Seminary, and attend a few classes at Trinity Theological Seminary. I say this in the most needy way I can, I am just a novice learning to trust in Jesus. I can say all the knowlege a person may have does make him or her a spritual person. "The renewal of inner person becoming Christlike is not accomplished in a moment, but a lifetime!" author unknown. I pray that when I ask aquestion or answer one that the Holy Spirit guides me. The reliability of this forum is something we all must decide with how the answer line up with scripture. as to the time on the forum being well spent that is a personal matter, only each of us can tell that. For me I am spirred to growth in this forum as a perticipant. To Jesus Christ and His Glory, 9farout). |

34 | Nature teaches a man to have short hair? | Rom 14:1 | farout | 40406
Just my opinion, unless you look like a woman or a homosexual, I choose to know you by your love for Christ. For us antiques over 50, this was a messy subject in the sixties too. If your parents, or if you are married object to it then get clipped, other wise keep it clean and combed. Seems easy to me.
35 | How is it contrary to God's nature? | 1 Cor 7:15 | farout | 39228
I just want to address suffering. In Romans 8:17 the idea of suffering and sharing whith Christ' glory is an area of scripture you might like to study. I have found that verse and Romans 8:29 helpfull in undrestanding my suffering better. C. S. Lewis wrote a lot about suffering. I believe Lewis said something like suffering is Gods way of getting the our attention. As for your abusive spouse what makes you believe he is a born again Christian? What kind of abuse are you talking about? There are laws, and police, that are there to protect you. There are womens safe houses if you are in danger. You should make your pastor aware of this and see what wisdom he has. Nothing is Impossible with God! We are praying for you. |

36 | Speaking in tongues? Use by women? | Gal 3:28 | farout | 37739
I just spent one hour typing an answer and it went blank. IT MAY HAVE BEEN A BETTER ANSWER. i AM DETERMINED TO AT LEAST GIVE YOU AN ANSWER. Please read Gal 3:28 and Gal 5:6. If you follow my febal minds thoughts, it goes like this. ALL humans of both genders are equal in GODS EYES. God is perfect. us men are arrogant and for a large part think women are less than us. Christ broke this thinking. You may welll be a better closer form of Gods personality. Life giver, nuturer, more patient, well dont get a big head, but get the idea, I hope. Women were the main supporters of Paul! read ACTS and just follow how women kept him going! Tongues has been an issue for thousand of years. I have quietly had GOD SPEAK A STRONG ERGERNT WARNING TO ME. mANY YEARS AGO.I have seen tongues in one church service that was done according to scripture. There was no doubt it was real. This gift is used to will the lost! This is not a gift to ask for, or its not a gift is it? Have you ever seen anyone asked for the gifts of helps, service, giving, oand th list goes on. Why so many waqnt the least desireable gift is clear. THIS GIFT IS A SIGN AND WONDER GIFT WHICH jESUS SAID SIGNS AND WONDERS ARE WHAT THE POPLE |

You got to walk the talk, and the talk you talk better match thw walk you walk. Sounds a little hip hop, but that is how it is. If your life is not inline with what a christian is to be you need to make a change. I hope this makes it clear what I think it says. Peace, farout |

Like if you are a fifth grader I would explain differently than if you were a Freshman in college. If you want e-mail then give an e-mail in your profile, ok. I would like to answer your question. May I suggest II Timothy 3:16 and that should spark some fire in your thoughts. Peace, farout |
