Tom, You realize that there was no need to give the entire quote verbatim, don't you? There is no specific Bible passage to 'reply' to someone like that, because someone using this kind of language probably has little regard for Scripture. For that matter, such a person has little regard for people, especially women. The above Bible reference is appropriate for such a person, and applies to you, too. Bless this person with the Good News of Jesus Christ! Do not stoop to their level by becoming involved in the specifics of foul talk and attitude. Wisdom to you, my friend, in Christ Jesus, charis |

Dear gdswrd, Greetings in the name of Jesus! If the wife's reasons are good, then the husband will listen. That is if the husband is good! :-) I think that the main question is if the marriage is sound and united in faith? Separate churches is more foolish than submission to 'unreasonable' authority. If the wife has a problem with the present church, then the couple should visit the pastor (or an elder) together to settle the problem. One thing that you did not mention is if the home is committed to the church. Commitment to the local church is directly related to your service unto Jesus. Is it that easy to 'change churches?' If it is, then the basics of faith may need to be confirmed. It would be interesting to know if you are the 'wife' or the 'husband?' :-) Blessings of unity in Christ Jesus, charis |

23 | Aborted babies saved? | 1 Cor 7:14 | charis | 66733
Dear jo par, Greetings in Jesus' name! And welcome to the forum. Threads similar to this have been around since the early days of this forum. The Scripture I quote seems to give assurance to Christians that their children, regardless of age, are holy for the faith of the parent(s). As far as ALL children, no one, as yet, has made a clear case for their 'innocence.' This does not mean that I believe they are in hell, only that the Bible does not clarify their fate. Personally, I have wrestled with this one for 20 years. I thought it 'unfair' of God to send 'innocents' and the 'ignorant' to hell. Well, 19 years ago I gave this to the Lord. I KNOW I was worthy of hell! I KNOW He is worthy of all praise and trust!! I cast my 'emotional' burdens upon Him, that I may be free. Peace and joy in Christ Jesus, charis |

24 | Trial? | 1 Cor 7:5 | charis | 66719
Dear mpa, Greetings in the name of Jesus! My friend, my heart goes out to you. I will pray that the wisdom and peace of the Holy Spirit be upon you. Brother, you won't find me placing blame upon you. That won't solve anything. But repentance can and will change everything, as the word itself means to change. I suggest a change of opinion in a few key areas. As a fellow minister, I adjure you, do not be caught in the trap of saying, "If I do this, this will surely happen." If your church is in the Lord's capable hands, then 'bringing both your wife and yourself before witnesses' (trustworthy elders, co-laborers), will not 'wipe out everything.' If your church is not in God's hands, then it is already doomed. Honesty and trust in your fellowship is ALWAYS recommended, and WILL bring glory to God. If you cannot trust your elders, then they are not elders. Period. Another area of repentance is the thought that God is 'blessing your life and ministry.' This cannot be! What is your idea of blessing? If you cannot enjoy a healthy relationship with your spouse, then I don't know what blessing is. Finally, bitterness and defiance cannot work to your benefit. Sure, they are 'understandable,' but they don't solve anything, in fact can only exacerbate your turmoil. Find peace in the Lord. Then act according to conviction, not fear. Your fears seems to be dictating your lack of action. My brother and co-worker, I don't know your exact situation. But I HAVE dealt with such things personally and with other ministers. Perhaps you could email me, and we could talk, without 'airing the underwear' on a public forum. I promise to listen, and to give only simple Biblical advice, not try to rule over you. If you use Hotmail or such, you can be assured of your privacy. We could also chat or even talk on the phone. I'm sorry that you are caught up in a seemingly 'no-win' situation, and would like to pray for victory anyway! charisjapan@hotmail.com for both mail and chat. 25 | What purpose did each baptism serve? | NT general Archive 1 | charis | 66609
Dear Teacher, Part 2 Greetings again in Jesus' name! 3) Water Baptism - A washing that we chose to receive in obedience to the example set by Jesus and His disciples in the Bible. I believe the ideal method is full-immersion, but circumstance would not prevent this blessing from taking place if plenty of water were not available. However, to make extenuating circumstances into the norm, and practice sprinkling or dipping is not in keeping with the commandment to be 'whelmed.' Another practice I cannot accept is infant baptism. I trust fully that God will grant grace to the children of believers. I also see that faith is a necessary component of baptism, and that faith-by-proxy is not faith. As you can see, my friend, I have not supplied Scripture for Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Water Baptism. The reason is time and space (nothing to do with quantum physics! :-)). Please use the 'Search' function and type 'baptism' along with my user name 'charis,' and you will find 85 posts in which I write my position and supply Scripture reference. Finally, I have not yet made a definitive 'system' or 'method' out of my beliefs about the baptisms. This is because as soon as I do, it would be succeptable to error or criticism. I might even be the one to find the error! I see that 'setting doctrine in stone' (or print) makes us bound (enslaved) by tradition and conservatism, to the point that we are unable to accept an even slightly different thought. On the other hand, I do not believe in 'floating' doctrine, that changes with each fad or 'guest speaker.' I have a certain amount of 'leeway' built into my doctrine, but not so much that it has undergone a major 'revamp' in over 20 years. If you do have the time to read some of my postings, you will find that I do live and teach a fairly clear doctrine. (I hope!) Certainly clear enough to love God, and serve Him with all my being. Now, it's your turn! :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

26 | What purpose did each baptism serve? | NT general Archive 1 | charis | 66607
Dear Teacher, Greetings in Jesus' name! Male - Randy, not Grace. :-) From your emphasis on 'WERE,' I gather that you think that there are now less than three? I'll try to explain 'my' position: 1) John's baptism - As you wrote, a full-immersion water baptism unto repentance, and to prepare a way for the Messiah (Christ). "Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'" Now John himself had a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins." Matthew 3:1-6 NASB. In my opinion, many churches today are still practicing a baptism similar to John's. By this I mean that it is a 'general' baptism, 'preparing the way,' but not spiritually effective. It may separate them from the world (repentance), but not baptize them 'into Christ.' 2-a) Baptism of the Holy Spirit - a spiritual washing of the Holy Spirit that is sometimes concurrent with our repentance experience. I believe that the Holy Spirit is the Instigator (Apprehender?) of our 'meeting' with the Lord, and Encourager of our 'acceptance' of Christ Jesus as Savior. However, because of the many references to 'conversion,' 'baptism,' 'renewal,' and the like, I lean toward this being a separate gift or blessing. How or why, I do not have a definitive answer. (sorry!) My excuse is that virtually every 'definitive' answer is full of holes! :-) I do observe, however, that some souls who proclaim Christ as Savior do not produce the appropriate fruit. It would be easy to just say, "Well, they're not saved!" I cannot do this, as the only truly 'appropriate fruit' is perfection, and none can achieve this. So, it 'seems to me' that the Holy Spirit can (and will!) indwell (immerse, baptize) a believer that opens his heart and his life to Him. This, to me, is a step beyond justification by faith. Ideally, all Christians will seek this blessing, but alas... 2-b) Baptism of Fire - 'John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."' Luke 3:16 NASB. (and Matthew 3:11, Isaiah 48:10, I Peter 1:7, Hebrews 12:29, 1 Corinthians 3:13-15) The above Scriptures tell me that God sometimes chastens us, tries us by fire, that we may become pure. I have experienced such 'seasons,' and ministered to saints in the midst of trial. Seeing the results of such times, I can only conclude that these were sent by the lord to cleanse our lives. Baptism means washing, purification. I find that I have surpassed the 5000 limit! (ME!?) So, for the exciting conclusion to this post, see my next post. Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

27 | Are little ones trusting, easily led | Matt 18:6 | charis | 66485
Dear cwade, Greetings in the name of Jesus! My friend, not intrusion whatsoever! After all, this is a public forum! :-) I see what you are saying, but I will have to say that I think that the 'little ones' are actually faithful, dedicated believers, regardless of their significance or maturity 'level.' Some commentators even go as far as labeling them disciples or ministers. (I use "e-Sword" in my computer [last count, 13 commentaries], and "The Pulpit Commentary [23 volumes]" and 5 different Study Bibles) My own experience in Christ tells me that the faithful Christian becomes 'less complicated' with maturity. Though I have not yet 'arrived' at striving to be humble, it is my earnest goal. One more 'food-for-thought' comment. You asked if 'as children' might mean "...people who are very trusting by nature and easily led." I think that dedicated, faithful Christians, regardless of their 'maturity,' are NOT "very FOOLISH by nature and easily MISLED." Just because they might be 'caused to stumble' does not necessarily mean they are stupid and easily duped. I still think that the 'dependent on God' aspect is more in keeping with the context of this passage, rather than 'cute an innocent.' For instance, when we 'turn the other cheek,' we should be well aware that we will probably get smacked again. But willing anyway! It's usually not like the movies when the 'offender' breaks down in repentance seeing our humility! So, saints... "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves." Matthew 10:16 NASB. I appreciate your comments. I know that my thoughts could 'rub the wrong way.' I just look at these Scriptures and see that they speak to 'converted' disciples of Christ. BTW, How are things in 'Joh-jah?' My big brother lives near Ellijay, Nohth Joh-jah! :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

28 | Do all little ones believe? | Matt 18:6 | charis | 66394
Dear Cyclist, Greetings again in Jesus' name! I forgot to answer your question! :-) No, I don't think that all little ones believe in Jesus. I cannot think of anything in the Bible that leads us to think that all children are born 'saved,' then at some point all become 'lost!' (the 'age of accountability' theory) How would we describe the point at which they stop believing? Where would sharing the "Good News" fit in? ("I once was saved, but now am lost, I hope I can get saved again!") I know it is popular to consider all children as 'innocent,' but isn't that doves? :-) I guess I back to 'ogre' status! :-( In Christ Jesus, charis |

29 | Do all little ones believe? | Matt 18:6 | charis | 66393
Dear Cyclist, Greetings in the name of Jesus! I can only hope that I don't sound like an ogre, but... My own observation of children leads me to believe that they are not 'little angels.' From a very young age, they manifest selfishness and willfullness toward authority. Most children are not naturally giving, or sharing, and most of their 'happiness' is when they are satisfied and entertained. Now that the majority of humanity and virtually every mother on earth considers me pond scum, let me say that I love children! Really! I thoroughly enjoyed raising my own two daughters, and continue to rejoice in them, one one almost-16 and the other a college-sophomore-18. Our home is always full of 'extra' babysat babies and children, friends over, and slumber parties. Our church is blessed with children, and we have had a church school for 8 years, almost unheard of in Japan. When I see the sin in children, I am only being honest, so that I can correctly bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4) To call a kid cute when they are rotten is mutual deception. :-) When I read the above Scripture, I believe that the Lord is exhorting us to be "as children," i.e dependent on God as a child is dependent on parents. Please also note that there is a good chance that there was a lot more discipline in the home, and in society in general, 2000 years ago. Yes, I'm sure that 'kids were kids' even then. But I doubt seriously that the present-age public tantrums and outward disrepect were anywhere near as prevalent as now. Jesus was talking about faith and trust in God, not the nature of children. For... "Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest." Ephesians 2:3 NASB. You can see what we do here at www.charisjapan.com Blessing and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

30 | Is baptism a work? | NT general Archive 1 | charis | 66374
Dear Teacher, Greetings in the name of Jesus! With fear and trepidation I wander yet again into the quagmire of this topic. I pray that I can simplify the issue, not muddy it up! :-) The Bible speaks of three baptisms in the New Testament. All three are for our cleansing (washing), so it seems to me that they all are for our sanctification while we walk the 'pilgrim path.' This path starts when we are apprehended by the Lord and given the gift of faith to believe on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The path ends when we meet God after our death or 'in the air.' First let me outline my thoughts on salvation and sanctification. I personally believe that we are saved (in time-limited human terms) from the moment recognize His Lordship. However, the Lord knew us from before our birth, and knows the outcome of our life in eternity. So, from God's vantage, our salvation is secured and complete. But from our lowly viewpoint, limited by time and situation, we make (feeble) attempts to explain eternal things. This is where our earthly sanctification 'process' enters the picture. Upon recognition of our favor in God's sight, we are called to please Him. God rejoices when we continue in the path of repentance from our ways into His. This is called by many names, but is in effect a washing away of the old man of sin and death, and becomeing the new creation He longs to see. True, we are already 'clean' at the moment of salvation (even before!), but I have yet to meet a Christian who is complete in man's eyes. The tools we have at our disposal are the washings (baptisms) that God provides. These are 'available,' but not really at our 'beck and call.' In fact, only water baptism allows us any real, physical choice. Baptism in the Spirit and baptism of fire seem to be wholly according to God's will. But is even water baptism just a ritual or tradition? I don't think so. I think that water baptism is connected with the 'circumcision of heart' prophesied in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 10:16, 30:6, Jeremiah 4:4), and confirmed in the New Testament (Colossians 2:11,12). The Lord gives opportunity, and rejoices when we are obedient to submit to water baptism. It is not a 'requirement' for salvation, but acceptable and pleasing in God's sight. In the same manner, recognizing the cleansing work of the Holy Spirit, being sensitive to His immediate presence in our life gives God pleasure. Finally, when the cleansing fire of the Lord is applied to our lives for reproof, we must submit in humility and repentance, and this further sanctification is granted us. I understand fully that my 'model' gives complete authority for our salvation and sanctification to the Lord. It does not make a place for man to 'choose' his fate. I believe that God chose me, not I chose Him. But now, after knowing of His plan for me, I make every attempt to gain His approval. I long to hear His words, "Well done, faithful servant. Enter into My joy!" (Matthew 25:21) I entrust my 'reward' unto Him! (1 Corinthians 3:10-15) Simple, huh? :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

32 | Why did God send phophets | Rev 20:5 | charis | 46314
Dear hillbilly, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I think you will find that the God spent a lot more time explaining how to live here and now than He did about signs pointing to future events. If you have settled all the here and now issues, and are living in accord with His instructions for you where He has placed you, then perhaps you have the spare time to ponder the end times. I, for one, have found that the entire Bible was written expressly for the purpose of edifying my present life in Christ, and that most conjecture about end time prophecy is just that: vain conjecture. Why did God write about past and future events? So we can learn to live in Him NOW! If your study of seals and horsemen actually (honestly!) enhances your walk with Jesus, then bless you! If, however, you are not a living testimony of the Gospel, then do that first! Also, please remember that NOBODY knows the times or dates, that is God's sovereign knowledge. In Christ Jesus, charis |

33 | Does God want us to prosper | Deut 28:1 | charis | 43369
Dear Sam, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Not necessarily. God wants us to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. None of these have anything to do with financial blessing. In fact, I could argue that too much financial blessing often robs us of spiritual blessing. How many Christians are owned by their money? Oh! the temptation to think how much we could do for Jesus if we had a lot of money. Oh! the truth is that Jesus doesn't need your money, but your heart. Peace and joy in Christ Jesus, charis |

34 | Can an All Powerful God commit Sin? | Ps 34:8 | charis | 43334
Dear Clark, Greetings in Jesus' name! There is no conundrum here at all. If you believe in the One and Only God, then He is only good. Other gods may offer a personal choice concerning their attributes, or make room for philosophical conumdrum, but the God of the Bible is good ONLY! Trusting in this, indeed trusting in Him is called faith. This particular faith is unavailable in other religions. To answer your questions: 1) Yes. 2) Yes. Please, He! No 'she!' 3) Why would He even want to do as we do? 4) No. 5) No. 6) Moot. 7) No. He is still omnipotent. 8) Moot. 9) Moot. 10) Moot. Friend, your trouble is lack of faith in a God that is ALL GOOD. I pray that you find Him. Call upon His name Jesus, and all your questions will be answered. Blessings, and peace in Christ Jesus, the One all await and need. charis |

35 | Can satan read our mind. | Job 34:21 | charis | 40218
Dear michael, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus! No! Only God knows your heart. "...on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus." Romans 2:16 NASB. "And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do." Hebrews 4:13 NASB. Satan may counterfeit this ability with 'mind tricks' and even petty soothsaying, but he cannot know the heart of man. Some in the church have the gift of the Spirit of distinguishing spirits. (1 Corinthians 12:10) But this gift is not a full-time 'ability.' The Holy Spirit gives insight to a person's motives (heard) for the purpose of glorifying God, according to His will and timing. Just like the other gifts, it is not *ours* to wield for our purposes. Peace and joy in Christ Jesus, charis |

36 | Evidence that women's role has changed? | Matt 28:10 | charis | 40216
Dear erika, Greetings in the name of Jesus! So many theories! :-) I am not sure of the *exact* circumstances of the Corinthian church, in fact, no one is. But they were being instructed about proper and orderly conduct in the assembly, and correctly discerning the leading of the Holy Spirit and the gifts that He pours into the church. Apparently, though blessed in the things of the Spirit, they were out of spiritual order. My point is that it is not talking in the church building or during the times of assembly so much as it is the submission to authority. "A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet." 1 Timothy 2:11,12 NASB. "But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ." 1 Corinthians 11:3 NASB. Surely, a woman may talk in church, but just like men, be careful to talk when it is proper! Apparently, the church at Corinth had a problem with this, and I have witnessed this same problem in many modern churches. For some reason, I don't see men (in general!) needing this same exhortation. :-) Surely, a woman may teach! Of course women have much to contribute to discussions about Christ, the Bible, and the church! Teaching children, or teaching Sunday School (to children and adults), and teaching other women about the things of God is not the issue. The issue is usurping authority by claiming pastoral ministry in the church, or the headship of their home. (this can be outwardly or subversively) This is not God's will. Yes, we are all equal in Christ Jesus! Our salvation is the same, man or woman, slave or free. But authority in the home and the church rests solely upon God's chosen men. Are there 'extenuating circumstances?' Of course! But when these 'special situations' become the long-term norm or permanent policy, we abuse the freedom that Christ gave us. He is not pleased. Blessings and joy in Christ Jesus, charis |

37 | Question not answered..... any help? | Mark 16:16 | charis | 39922
Dear Luke, Greetings in the name of Jesus! I just read your user profile, would like to address your question, "How can people accept theories with no proof over theories with TONS of scientific proof?" First let me say that I was brought up in Japan, in an agnostic home. No Jesus (except exclamations and curses) in my environment at all. Not a one of my friends were Christian, and as far as I know, none of their parents were Christians. This is just to say that I had no 'subliminal' influence or childhood memories that brought me to Christ Jesus. In fact, my father was military, logical and mechanical, and taught me to trust in science and rational behavior. I swallowed it all. Then one day 20 years ago, when I was 25 years old, after meeting and talking with some 'nutty' Christians, I found myself called to believe in Christ Jesus. I did not go quietly! I fought these fellows with every bit of logic, philosophy, and rational thought that I had in my (somewhat formidable) arsenal! I argued with them, and with the Spirit of God which assailed my heart. I denied creation, evolution, the supernatural and the Bible. Yet an honesty within me made me to investigate these very things, and to take a good look at my own 'theories.' I found that these so-called 'sciences' and 'proven facts' were not as solid as I was taught they were. I found that the 'truths' I was so certain of had little cement, and a lot of sand! (if you have worked concrete, you know what I mean) The 'experts' were often bigoted, dishonest men, seeking fame and favor. Their 'science' was mere theory, often with weak links of data, fact and logic. In fact, after reading many biographies, I found these men were asking me to 'believe' them, sometimes requiring 'leaps of faith' that would shame a good Cristian! My friend, I suggest you go through some of these 'TONS' of proof. I think you will find 'ounces' of theory! It is true that knowing Christ requires faith. But the Bible if full of truth that science is just now getting around to 'proving.' The historical record of the Bible is being 'proven' by recent archeological discoveries of more accurate dating methods. The social and moral teachings of the Bible are being 'discovered' to be more stable than any philosophy or psychology. Luke, faith in Jesus is anything but blind! It is freedom from the delusions you (and I!) have been fed. My prayer is that you will look into those things you take for granted, and read the Bible. Your eyes will be opened! Blessings to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

38 | REV.2AND 3 URGENT RESPONSE PLEASE | Revelation | charis | 39632
Dear Denise, Greetings in the name of Jesus! If I may comment: What makes you so certain that the Spirit is leading you to build a bigger church? Is it not just as effective (more effective?) to plant several small (independent, local) churches in your neighborhood? Do you find anywhere in the Bible that speaks of building large churches, or hints that large congregations are God's will? It seems to me that it takes a great deal more faith to send men out than to gather everyone's money and build a citadel. Please, which is the example in the Bible? In Christ Jesus, charis |

39 | can catholics be saved | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 36080
Dear Y2J SwFl, Greetings in the name of Jesus! I'm not sure what this has to do with "Did God create evil?" :-) Though I disagree with a great deal of (Roman) Catholic doctrine and practice, I fully believe that God saves by grace through faith all who confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead. "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;" Ephesians 2:8 NASB. "...that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;" Romans 10:9 NASB. I consider this faith to be the 'lowest common denominator' of salvation written in the Bible. I know that many members of the Roman Catholic Church meet this criteria, so I cannot deny their salvation. Sadly, many are members by 'inheritance or social convenience,' and have no personal faith in Christ Jesus. This does not allow us to generalize all Catholics as unsaved. As to the practice of praying to Mary or the saints, I find this to be no more sinful than worshipping wealth, status, or tradition; things which many other Christians are guilty of. Therefore, I cannot condone such practices, but neither can I condemn them to hell if they have faith in the Lord Jesus. Blessings and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

40 | should Christian children have boyfriend | 1 Thess 4:3 | charis | 35602
Dear aduvukace, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Inasmuch as the world's view of dating/going steady is pretty much linked to having a sexual relationship, or at least private physical contact, I would say that it is better to abstain. Especially if, as your post seems to say, it is a relationship between a born-again Christian and a non-Christian. Even among two Christians, you (they) walk a tightrope of temptation with a huge chasm of potential problems with the slightest misstep! "For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;" 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 NASB.
