21 | trumpet-God's voice or instrument | Ex 19:16 | Reighnskye | 132755
I was taught by my pastor when I was younger that the trumpet of God was a war device used to send troops into a war. Here are a few verses on trumpets. - Exodus 19 16 So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. 19 When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. (NAS95) Joshua 6 15 Then on the seventh day they rose early at the dawning of the day and marched around the city in the same manner seven times; only on that day they marched around the city seven times. 16 At the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, "Shout! For the LORD has given you the city. 17 "The city shall be under the ban, it and all that is in it belongs to the LORD; only Rahab the harlot and all who are with her in the house shall live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent. 18 "But as for you, only keep yourselves from the things under the ban, so that you do not covet them and take some of the things under the ban, and make the camp of Israel accursed and bring trouble on it. 19 "But all the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD; they shall go into the treasury of the LORD." 20 So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city. 21 They utterly destroyed everything in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword. 22 | Homosexuality, sin or not? | Lev 20:13 | Reighnskye | 132714
LibertyBelle, Here are some classic verses on homosexuality. The bible does indeed make specific references to it. Le 20:13 'If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them. (NAS 95) - Romans 1 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 23 | A New Perspective!??! | Bible general Archive 2 | Reighnskye | 132676
Country Girl, This makes a good amount of sense, insofar as thoughts themselves are recorded within the brain as visual/audible imprints. There are three visual/audible imageries that run simultaneously in the brain at any one given time during all of our conscious waking states. Our eyes and ears function as a continual tape record, so to speak, much like a movie camera. Sights and sounds are recorded in our brain in tiny data bits, which are later replayed with appropriate memory triggers. Further, as we remember words, any such actual word is stored away as a picture and a sound in our brain. Unfortunately, I still don't know what "Paomnnehal" means, as per your title. 24 | "Bosom of Abraham" a Rabbinical Idiom? | Luke 16:20 | Reighnskye | 131317
Doc, I'm not quite sure if this would answer your question, and certainly there are others more qualified than me on the subject. I've done some readings in Josephus (including your excerpt) perhaps fifteen or twenty years ago, so it's been awhile. I've noticed that there are several Old Testament writings (predating Josephus) that are quite similar to this one here. Many of the ideologies within Josephus's writings are merely borrowed from other ancient source texts. Some of these ancient source texts are remaining and some are extinct. The most notable might be the book of Second Esdras (2 Ezra), wherein an even more detailed set of visions of the heavens and the hells are experienced under the instruction of an angelic messenger. Please check the apocrypha for this book. The NRSV apocrypha is quite particulary good. I suggest that the Catholic belief in purgatory more resembles the Old Testament version of heaven and hell, as was prevalent in many ancient Old Testament era (albeit extra-biblical) texts. I find it to be a very interesting and enlightening study to research what people during Old Testament times believed about the afterlife. This would be to the exclusion of New Testament beliefs on the subject. You would gather some very unique findings. I had spent a few years of my life loosely sorting through about 200 psuedapigraphal texts (approximately 100 OT era and 100 NT era), wherein many of these texts make references to the beliefs of ancient peoples. These ancient beliefs are not otherwise commonly noticed in scripture, without extra-biblical (psuedapigraphal) research involved. - Just a couple of notes on psuedapigraphal and apocryphal writings. 1. I suggest that there are many ancient texts that are 99 percent divinely inspired (except for minor doctrinal inaccuracies). However, if just one verse of a psuedipigraphal text would be deemed uninspired, then it is automatically rejected from the canon of divine scripture as a whole. However, we can say the same thing about any book authored by Billy Graham, Max Lucado, Charles Swindoll or John MacArther, yet we still read them and are greatly inspired by them. They also are not inerrently inspired, and occasionally a paragraph or two will be error-filled. 2. Some psuedipigraphal writings are outright forgeries (albeit ancient forgeries), that have been severely tampered with. Many others, likewise, are merely inaccurate re-writes of now extinct texts. However, even the forgeries will sometimes contain keys to the belief systems of the ancient world (the afterlife for example) that can still add to the richness of our knowledge of ancient culture. Just some thoughts. ---- It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him." (Jude 1:14-15 NAS95) And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 25 | Date or time for an answer to prayer? | Is 38:5 | Reighnskye | 131076
MrsMcCurley :) I'm not precisely aware whether or not God gives a date or a time in answer to prayer anywhere in the scripture. Nonetheless, God is quite specific with a timeframe when He heals Hezekiah after he prays to God. And a specific sign is given in this particular instance as well. ---- Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, "Go and say to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David, "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. "I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city."' "This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that He has spoken: "Behold, I will cause the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, to go back ten steps." So the sun's shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down. (Isaiah 38:4-8 NAS95) Reighnskye |

26 | Where dos Satan do his work? | Matt 13:27 | Reighnskye | 131063
Roger, Are you saying that Satan indwells believers? PS. Please whisper. :) This particular verse that you present is likely referring to the world and not specifically to the church. Try these verses instead maybe. They are perhaps more to the point. "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. "I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. 27 | Can a satanist invade my dreams? | 2 Cor 10:4 | Reighnskye | 130858
JumpingBum, Is your subconscious mind open to archonic inspirations? It is good to permeate your thoughts with the Word of God. Myself, I'll often listen to the New Testament on cd as I sleep, if I should happen to feel my dreams assaulted throughout the night. Much has to do with where your attention is focused. Upward or downward. ---- for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NAS95) RS |

28 | Jesus Son of God ; God ; Spirit | Luke 8:28 | Reighnskye | 130844
This scripture unit had actually been quite instrumental in my own conversion. The lesser powers had indeed been evidenced to my senses directly, so I had no trouble believing in a higher spiritual authority that could subject them. These verses tell me that the title of Jesus as Son of God and Christ are more than simply earthly-originated titles. Jesus holds weight in the supernatural realm as well.
29 | Purpose of attending church? | Acts 2:45 | Reighnskye | 130518
I largely view church buildings as more of a modern age thing, insofar as the early church moreso met in houses. A mere secularization in my estimation. The members of the early church from Acts 2:45 did not so much meet in a building, but rather sold all of their possessions and lived together communally. Of course, we tend to be so departed from this concept today, that we would likely label it as a heretical cult, if anyone actually attempted to practice it today.

34 | Outer Darkness? | Matt 8:12 | Reighnskye | 130415
A truly interesting question. My inpression of this verse is that the term "outer" may have something to do with being "outside" of Christ's millennial kingdom (the New Jerusalem) during Christ's millennial reign (or possibly also sometime thereafter). One might ask how "outer" darkness is differentiated from simply darkness. |

35 | The shaking of heaven and earth | Heb 12:26 | Reighnskye | 130402
My personal interpretation of these verses is that the heavenly shaking may involve the unsettling of the higher archonic entities which fill the heavens. The notion involves the idea that even the most perfect of the angels in God's sight are filled with sinful blemish, and therefore must undergo a shaking. I'm afraid that I can't provide scripture to back this up at this time however, as my views are somewhat in the formative and theoretical stage on the issue. |
