21 | How many horsemen? | 2 Sam 8:4 | Mommapbs | 151753
David, do you have an agenda here? Does the number really matter? Frankly, I'd like to know why he needed 100 chariots or how many horses were needed for them. I'd also like to know what he did with the 20,000 foot soldiers of Hadadezer. Also, why is there a difference in the reported number of Arameans killed in v 5 and v 13? The point of the passage (imo) is found in v 14 - "the LORD helped David wherever he went." (May He help you too!) Sometimes our "need to know quotient" is left unresolved, but does this change who GOD is? mommapbs |

22 | Is the tail wagging the dog? Do we love? | Acts 2:44 | Mommapbs | 151750
Greetings Vic - You asked, "what does the love of God look like?" Calvary comes to mind here. Tim Moran answered your question about believers having all things in common in a previous post. He wrote: "It is not a command, so the church is under no obligation to follow this practice. People in the early church did lots of things, but unless we are commanded to do likewise, we are under no obligation to do something simply because they did it." I'm sorry to observe this, but you may find that believers posting on SBF have more things NOT in common at times :-( mommapbs |

23 | salvation and the law | Rom 3:24 | Mommapbs | 151400
Whose "works" does James 2:17 speak of? I believe that these are God's. We are God's workmanship (Eph 2:10) - it is God who is at work in believers (Phi 2:13) - we are saved by His grace, not of our works (Eph 2:8-9) by the work of the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 1:2) to regenerate us (Titus 3:5) and Christ's blood "works" to cleanse us from sin, to propitiate God's wrath (1 John 4:10 et al). Faith, being by itself or without the works of God is indeed dead! Jesus said, "Apart from Me you can DO nothing." John 15:5 God works - we are God's workmanship, created IN Christ unto good works which God has prepared in advance fo us to do. (Eph 2:10) Let's keep the cart (good works - our response to God's work, what we do after we are IN Christ, recognized as the fruit of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer) behind the horse (God's Grace, working in HIS power to reconcile us to Him) Blessings, mommapbs |

24 | How can the gentleness of the opening ve | Ps 37:8 | Mommapbs | 151393
Pastorryan - Our God is a loving God, patient with us, (2 Peter 3:9) but our God is also a wrathful God. This passage reminds us of another side of God's nature -"A jealous and avenging God is the LORD; The LORD is avenging and wrathful. The LORD takes vengeance on His adversaries,And He reserves wrath for His enemies." Nahum 1:2 See also: Dt 32:35, Heb 10:30. The One who "repays" is the Lord. See the post by Kalos on Ps 137:9 ID# 111190 This Psalm laments the state of beloved Israel and should encourage us as we understand that God will rescue His people in the last days. Speculation Alert here! this might be referencing the harlot that "sits on many waters" in Rev 17. Saudi Arabia, which sits on many waters (look at a map), could be called the "daughter of Babylon" because the false religion that Saudi Arabia proclaims as truth came right out of Babylon in Iraq and was established by Mohommed at Mecca. The worship of allah descends from the moon god of Babylon and it is destined to be destroyed (Jer 5:42; 51:33)According to Hastings' Enc. of Religion and Ethics (vol 1. p.326) states that "Allah is a pre-Islamic name . . .corresponding to the Babylonian god known as Bel. 'Bel' means 'lord' and this is a title of reverance to the moon god 'Sin'.(Isn't this interesting?) Just as immature believers are called newborn babes or infants in Christ (1 Peter 2:2; Cor 3:1), the "infants" in this verse might also be offspring or followers of the false religion of the "daughter of Babylon" - Islam. God will destroy the all who reject Him as Lord. Just something to consider. mommapbs |

25 | different religions | 2 Cor 6:14 | Mommapbs | 151030
Greetings naenae33. Input 2 Cor 6:14 in the Questions/Notes on Verse field in the upper left box of this page. You will find lots of discussion on this topic. Believers are sometimes called the Bride of Christ and for a good reason; God uses the illustration of marriage to help us understand what our relationship to Him is supposed to be. Prayerfully consider what God is saying here. mommapbs |

26 | CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN REV.17:10,IN A JIST. | Rev 17:10 | Mommapbs | 151028
fborn, welcome to the Forum. For many on this Forum, the notes of revelationcommentary.org have a wealth of information. However, I am going to offer another viewpoint that may also be worthy of consideration. This is an explanation of this passage that I recently read in "Islam, Peace or Beast." Simon Altaf, (a former muslim) suggests the identities of the "kings" of Rev 17:10 by looking at the empires that have ruled the land of Israel. He notes that "5 have fallen" (meaning that 5 empires are past) could be Egyptian, Assyrian,Babylonian, Persian, and Grecian When John writes, "one is" Altaf suggest that this is the present Roman Empire of John's day. And lastly John writes, "the other has not yet come" could refer to the Ottoman Empire which did indeed remain for a short time.(This also could be referenced as the head with the fatal wound that was healed Rev 13:3, meaning that the Ottoman Empire has been revived today as seen in the borderless nation of Islam) This follows with the next verse (11) "The beast which was (The Ottoman Empire) and is not,(the fall of the Ottoman Empire) is himself also an eighth (the rise of Islam today) and is one of the seven,(A revival of the Ottoman) and he goes to destruction." (The destiny of the Beast) Incidently, referencing v 9 - Rome is not a city that sits "by or across" (Greek "epi) 7 mountains, but Mecca does. 1 John 2:22 "Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son." Rome, considered a seat of Christianity, acknowledges and promotes the Diety of Jesus Christ. Mecca, a seat of Islam, does not. Muslims are taught in the Qur'an (Sura 4:171) "The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was no more than God's apostle . . .God is but one God. God forbid that He should have a son." There is much that we do not know, but one thing we know for sure. Revelation is a wonderful source of encouragment for the believer. Our God triumphs and reigns. mommapbs PS: What is a JIST? |

27 | Can we not ask God to forgive another? | John | Mommapbs | 150948
Greetings Nobel! The forgiveness of God in Christ is an accomplished fact - it is finished - the penalty for sin was paid. Could we ever forgive another apart from the forgiveness of God in the first place? Eph 4:32 God has already forgiven - if we pray for God to forgive another person, what does that have to say about our belief in what He has already done? Jesus tells us how to handle offenses in Mt 18. We are to SHOW the offense to the offender - didn't God do the same for us? God makes us aware of our sin and when we are conscious of our sin a response is necessary. No response is a response too. Perhaps we are to pray the the offender recognizes his offense and chooses to respond with repentance? Our enemy is hungry and thirsty, in need of the "bread of Life" and "living water" . . .perhaps this is the what we should pray that he finds in his relationship with us; perhaps this is the cup of water (unconditional forgiveness?) we are to offer. (Romans 12:20) Blessings, mommapbs |

28 | 1 Thess. 5:17 | Jer 29:12 | Mommapbs | 149795
Greetings - God listens to us! Jer 29:13 says 'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.' Prayer is simply communication with God. Talking to God as you would talk to a friend. What do you talk about? Things in your life that concern you, delight you etc. You also talk with a friend to learn more about them; their likes and dislikes, what makes them who they are. As you discover who your friend is, you understand what you can do to please them. If you only want to be with a friend for what they can do for you, what does that say about your friendship? Same way with God. One thing that I try to consider is this: Am I looking for God's Hand or what is in it? Do I desire His presence or what His presence can do for me? God knows the motives of our hearts, and even in our self-centeredness, He loves us still. See Pslam 37:4. When we delight in God, just take pleasure in who He is, for His sake, He will give us the desires of our heart. Who do these desires belong to - God! God's deisres are given to us! Now whose deisres would you rather have - yours or His? When His desires are given to us, they become ours - think about this. Blessings mommapbs |

29 | How can i MEET God? | Ps 132:1 | Mommapbs | 149711
Greetings SMO (?) - Look up the Scriptures referenced in this post! In reading Jer 29:13 and Acts 17:24 it seems to me that a change of heart is necessary. Imo, you need to change the way you think about God. You can't "catch" God nor can you manipulate Him by your actions or determination. The Lod knows you from the inside out; He knows what is motivating you. (Prov 16:2)Imo, you need to repent of this quest for God to "show up" - to "prove" an intimate relationship - which has in fact led to your doubt.(I believe this is actually a good thing, because it brings you to a place of choice - to believe or to doubt. I have always found it best to "doubt my doubts." If I "doubt" my doubt that God will show us I am more open to seeing Him as He wants to reveal Himself to me!) God IS all around us,(Num 14:21) where can you go from His presence? (Ps 139:7; Romans 8: 35-39) The problem as I see it is that you are looking for evidence in a self-centered manner, not allowing God to reveal Himself as He purposes for you. Sometime we just have to trust that He is who He says w/o ANY proof. That's faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God.(Heb 11:6) Imo, this is your crisis of belief. I encourage you to confess and repent of your attempt to manipulate God (Yesterday i planned of fasting until God came to me (in a manifest presence), to show him the determination of my spirit to meet Him.) and choose to believe that He is always with you, whether He chooses to reveal Himself or not. Start there. God loves you just the way you are; you don't have to show or "prove" anything to Him. Thank Him for this and choose to believe it! Read Eph 2:8-10. Lastly, I'm just wondering, are you SMO or a son or daughter of SMO? Blessings, mommapbs |

31 | angel | Jer 33:3 | Mommapbs | 148793
regguh - history can give us the answer to your question, these men have ruled and are dead. This is the 21st century, and apart from the current pope, chosen by the college of cardinals, no one but God knows what the future will hold. Dan 2:45 tells us that God does reveal the future, but whether or not He did reveal the number or descriptions of the popes to Malachy is unknowable - it is not recorded in God's Word. Thankfully, we have God's Word as our reference to the past and a key to the future. God has revealed Himself and His established principles for us to depend upon. We know that God will accomplish His purposes on the earth. How He chooses to do this should not be a source of divison or even concern among us. Let us endeavor to love the Lord with all our hearts and our neighbor as ourselves. This verse in Jeremiah reminds us that God will tell us great and mighty things that we do not know. What are great and mighty things? The predictions of a dead man or the promises of a living God? mommapbs |

32 | Mass before Jesus,how they get salvation | Heb 11:2 | Mommapbs | 148787
Greetings William - all men are saved from the wrath of God against sin when they are declared righteous - or without sin - by God. All men are justified or declared righteous by God in the SAME manner, BY God's Grace through faith (Eph 2:8) - read all of Hebrews 11. Men of old gained God's approval just like we do - they believed God and it was credited to them as righteousness - they were declared "not guilty" of sin. Jesus is the fulfillment of the promise of God - imo, it is much easier to believe God because of Jesus than it was when there were only promises. Believe in God, believe also in Me (John 14:1) said Jesus - One and the same with the Father. One Lord over all from the Old Testament to the present. Blessings, mommapbs Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short That it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull That it cannot hear. Is 59:1 |

33 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Mommapbs | 148766
Greetings Ray - when one is "in the name of Christ" can we agree that this would identify the individual as a Christ follower? Why would anyone be reviled if he/she were not "in" Christ? Seems to me that when someone is "in" Christ one is fair game for the enemy! This is an assurance of our salvation (because the Spirit of God and of glory rests on you)of a sort don't you think? Praying God's blessings upon you dear brother! mommapbs |

35 | Being filled w/ the Spirit mean tongues? | Acts 2:4 | Mommapbs | 148491
Searcher - When one is "filled with the Spirit" what should we expect to see? How about as a suggestion, obedience to God's Word? Just before Easter, I was reading in 1 Cor 14, when a tongue (unknown) is spoken in the congregation, there is to be an interpreter. If there is no interpreter, the speaker is to be silent. It seems to me that one who is filled with the Spirit will walk in obedience to this . . . yet there are those who ignore this instruction and therefore imo, I 'might' be inclinded to conclude that they are not filled with the Spirit. After just reading this passage, on Easter Sunday we (by mistake? no!) found ourselves in a Spanish worship service. I know a smattering of that language but in reality, it is an "unknown tongue" to me. The congregation warmly welcomed us, and they spoke to us in English - even one of the soloists sang in English first for us. When it came time for the message from God's Word, I saw a demonstration of what "being filled with the Spirit" is in the obedience of this body to God's Word. Just before the Pastor spoke, two women came and sat between us. They interpreted every word the Pastor preached. Love in action - being filled with the Spirit, they demonstrated the reality of 1 Cor 14 - the proper use of speaking in an unknown tongue in accordance with God's Word. I realize that this is not what one generally thinks of when we refer to "tongues," but perhaps this experience will bless you or someone else today. mommapbs |

36 | How's praying in the Holy Spirit tongues | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 148490
Searcher - this question has been up for a while . . . Susan has not responded; I agree with your conclusion - the Spirit speaks, not the believer here. I see Eph 6:18 and Jude 1:20 as faith expressions of the reality of Romans 8:26. The Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. What a comfort that is - to be intimately connected with the Trinity, knowing that our struggles not only go unnoticed, but are brought before the Throne of the King. Now what kind of language does the Spirit use? Groanings, too deep for words - SO might this also be understood as an "unknown tongue"? Who is doing the speaking? As the Spirit intercedes, this "unknown tongue" does indeed edify the individual as we learn to trust in this reality that takes place in our lives. I recognize that most probably your discussion was the believer's use of tongues in uttered speech - yet the inference of Romans 8:26 is that the "tongue" of the Spirit is too deep for words (therefore how is that we should utter any?) Therefore when we pray in the Spirit, might it be a yielding of our burdens and cares to Him, who knows our thoughts and our needs before we do? (Cease striving and KNOW that I am God - Ps 46:10 - comes to mind here.)I only offer this as a suggestion to consider that might diffuse some of the agnst we experience in this sensitive area of our various traditions. mommapbs |

37 | What happened to following 1 Cor.14 | Gal 3:3 | Mommapbs | 148224
Follow-up thought: generally what we hear from our pulpits is an accumulation of God speaking through many sources. Our preachers (hopefully) begin with God's written Word and then study, using various tools as well as the thoughts and writings of others on the specific text. So you see, in a way, we do follow the model of 1 Cor 14. We are not all in the same place but we can "hear" what God has said to different people across the ages at the same time. . . mommapbs |

38 | What happened to following 1 Cor.14 | Gal 3:3 | Mommapbs | 148222
Greetings Bobby Conner - our adversary likes it this way and we like dumb (pun intended) sheep follow right along. . . believing that only one person has a direct line to God. Yet believers all possess the same Spirit - we all have acess to the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16). Ignorance, complacency, deception, arrogance and pride all feed this mentality that results in this model. No denomination is responsible; we all are. I believe that God continues to speak through His servants today, but never in a way that is inconsistant with His written Word.imo, unbelief is the thief in our midst here. mommapbs |

I'm wondering if you are thinking of the Hebrew word "selah" which is found at the end of various verses in the Psalms . . . it means to lift up or exalt. 40 | Church sound system "way too loud" | 1 Cor 13:1 | Mommapbs | 147759
Greetings Kalos: Lee is a member of the body with a special need (we all have special needs btw) and in accordance with the command of Jesus that we love one another - as Christ loves the church, we should be responsive to him as an individual. Although I have no expertise in PA systems, might a selective headphone be appropriate for him? Ones that would allow for what his hearing can receive? Over Easter we attended, (by mistake?!) a Spanish church. I had just been reading in 1 Cor about the use of "tongues" in the church. If there is no interpreter present, those who speak in tongues should be silent (1 Cor 14:28). Now although this was not exactly an "unknown tongue" it was for us! This loving body, recognizing our plight sent interpreters to sit in our midst and interpret the pastor's message - what a blessing that was for us - not only the words spoken but the means by which they were delivered. Seeing the body in action to respond to our "individual need" was wonderful. Might this body that Lee belongs to see their response to him as a priviledge. I'll join you in prayer that a loving solution is reached for him too In Christ, mommapbs |
