Rose, I know that their is a lot of disagreement about the weight that baptism has. The closest thing that can be compared to baptism in my understanding is the circumsision of the Old Testament. It is an outward sign of an inward covenant. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ plus nothing. Although I don't see any harm in it, I know of nothing in the Bible that supports infant baptism because a little child may not understand what a decision of faith in Jesus is, so he couldn't make an outward sign of his decision. Jesus did say that the children are protected. I think one thing that all of us have to be sure of is that God is much more just than we could ever imagine. His judgements will be perfect for the children, the rebelious, the innocent, the ignorant the wicked or what have you. Rom 8:1 says that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. There is no judgement for those whose faith is in Jesus. Jesus took our condemnation upon Himself. All those who do not place their faith in Jesus in this life will be judged by how they lived and the Bible says all have sinned. With the exception of those who do not have the ability to decide (children, mentally handicapped, etc.)anyone who does not receive Jesus will not be found innocent. God is love, but He is also a rightious judge who is forgiving only to a humble and repentant heart. |

23 | Explanation of Romans 1-3. | Romans | Bob Y. | 23835
There is several things that Romans 1-3 speaks about. Paul says that the existance of God has been clearly revealed to anyone who is really seeking Him by His creation, but man chose to worship the creation instead of the creator (the gift instead of the giver). Because of the gift of "free will" given to mankind by God, mankind was permitted to continue in all kinds of sins of passions, lusts and perversions even to leave the natural order of His creation of a man and woman. Because of mankind's unbrideled sinful desires, God gave the law through Moses to expose what was sin and show that everyone was already living in sin. Even the ones who knew and maybe enforced the law among the people, would break the law when it was to their benefit. How could they judge others? God gave the law through the Jewish people, but that didn't make the Jewish people any less or more of a sinner than the rest of the World. It just made them aware of their sinfulness first. All who have sinned will perish, whether we know and live under the law or whether we are ignorant of the law. The law is there just to reveal our sins and in contrast show us the rightious judgement of God. God has also revealed another aspect of His rightiousness, His grace. Through His Son Jesus Christ, the image of Himself, incarnated as a human (Because He is God, He did not have to live under the law, but being human he did not surcome to temptation to commit sin. Even as a human, His desire to please the Father was greater than anything this world and Satan could offer as temptation)and taking all of mankinds sins upon himself. He presented His sinless human life as a sacrifice to God the Father for the sins of mankind. By the glory of His resurection we know that His sacrifice was accepted by the Father. Now through faith in the redemption (purchase) that has been made by Jesus at the cross, we are justified before the Father and even made heirs. God the Father has provided a way that He can "pass over" (or overlook)our sins that have been exposed by His law. |

24 | Give the difference of evil and wickness | OT general | Bob Y. | 23827
Hi Jepson, I would agree with two above replys, that wickedness is the evil intent of the heart of an individual and would be a fruit of evil (along with sexual immorality, covetousness, maliciousness, etc. Rom.1:28) Inversely the fruits of the Spirit would be the fruits of rightiousness. It would seem to me that the act of 9/11 was purely evil and was carried out because of the wickedness in each perpatraitors heart. |

25 | baptism requied or not, by immersion | NT general Archive 1 | Bob Y. | 18964
I refer you to Romans 3:21-24 and Romans 5:9. Justification and salvation comes only as a gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism, whether by imersion or splashing (the gentiles in Acts 10:47 were probably splashed since they seemed to be inside Cornelius' house) is just an outward sign of an inward decision. Baptism in the NT can be compared to circumcision in the OT in that it was an outward sign or seal of being the people that God would reveal Himself through. For this I refer to Romans 4:11. Abraham was justified because he believed God (Gen 15:6). At the time he was justified he was uncircumcised. Likewise the believer is justified, saved and redeamed by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at the moment of decision. If the believer should die before getting baptised their everlasting life in Heaven with Jesus is assured. Jesus commissioned His disciples to baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit(Matthew 28:19)as an outward seal to the union and commitment of the believer to God before the world (Matthew 10:33). True baptism, like true worship, is a baptism of the heart in spirit and in truth (John 4:23) Because any true believer is going to have a strong desire to obey our Lord, he or she would want to partake in the two rituals that our Lord Jesus gave us of baptism and communion to show their commitment and love for Him to others. |

26 | we obey from the heart not the letter. | NT general Archive 1 | Bob Y. | 18963
I would like to refer you to Colossians 2:15-16. Now that Jesus dwells within us by the Holy Spirit we are not bound by the rituals of the OT laws that were a mere shadow of His coming. Just like we may see a shadow of something coming at us that puts us on alert but when we see the object that is coming we focus our attention on it and forget about the shadow. We now fulfill the law by loving one another (Romans 13:8)and when we love God and love one another, we won't intentionally offend anyone. Since Jesus lives within us, every day should be a holy day for the believer. By the righteousness of Jesus, we are being made righteous (2Timothy 4:8). The law is to expose sin by those who are separated from God, (Romans 3:19), and not for the righteous, (1Timothy 1:9). When we choose to trust our eternal souls to Jesus, His law of loving one another,(John 15:12) is written in our hearts, (Jeremiah 31:33). How can someone have the Holy Spirit living within them, loving each other with God's love and proceed to commit adultry, murder, worship idols and covet? If they do these things it's because they are not truly saved (1John 2:4)and if that is the case all the sabbath days in the world can't save them from distruction, only the cross of Jesus will accomplish that. |
