21 | Baptized WITH the name...? | Acts 2:38 | charis | 38754
Dear JMSCOTT, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I am a bit confused about your post. I have read the proferred Scriptures, and don't understand your point. You wrote: 'If you read the whole chapter of Acts 11....peter had a vision(trance)...he baptized with water at first....then he remememberd(holy spirit)and baptized with the name of the fatherand son and holy spirit....which all have names!' (end quote) Baptized WITH the name...? I thought that we are baptized IN the name. Then you said that 1 Corinthians releases us from the Law (of water), but then go back in time to a 'new one' in Matthew 28. Would you please explain what you mean? In Christ Jesus, charis |

22 | Apostles Spirit-led? | Acts 2:38 | charis | 38731
Dear Joe! Greetings in the name of Jesus! While I agree with the things you wrote in reply to Andrew, you did not address the original question at all. 'Apparently the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus. Was this a revelation from the Holy Spirit after Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?' Were the actions of the apostles mistakes? Were they 'abbreviating' the 'formula?' Or, just maybe, the Holy Spirit led them to baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ? It DOES seem that the Spirit led Paul to write: "Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father." Colossians 3:17 NASB It also seems that the leaders of the Jews were aware that this name was dangerous to their religious tradition: "And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus." Act 4:18 NASB. Please note that I am not denouncing the Trinitarian method, nor denying the command of the Lord in Matthew 28. I am not 'Jesus-only' or 'Oneness.' I am simply stating that baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ is Biblical and valid. Sadly, mere humans seem to have a penchant for going a step or two (or more!) further than the leading of the Spirit of God. This applies equally to the 'Jesus-ONLY' camp and the 'Trinitarian Formula-ONLY' camp. The zeal of both of these camps leads them beyond the simplicity of Scriptural teaching, IMHO. Peace to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

23 | Empty Justification? | Revelation | charis | 36047
Dear Jesusman, Greetings to you in Jesus' name! I am a bit confused by this post. Are you saying that the work on the Cross is but general payment for sin, but there is no specific (personal) payment *applied* or *activated* until this final judgement? So where is justification? Would this mean that we are 'counted as righteous' as only possible or potential? With all due respect, this sounds suspiciously similar to the 'Bean-Counter in Heaven' God that was proposed to me when I first got saved. A brother said something to the effect that our salvation experience was nothing but a 'trial offer' through which we might make it to the 'finals' but only a few made to the 'podium.' Sounds like the Olympics! :-) You cited several Biblical 'judgements' in your post. Are these also 'preliminaries?' Are the saints of the Old Testament and New Testament still not assured of their salvation? Or do we have a 'voucher' that assures us that we WILL pass the test, but it is just not yet 'finalized.' (quote from D.D.Eisenhower, "My conclusion is not yet finalized." This statement was considered to be governmental gobbledegook) I look forward to your answer. Peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

24 | Tabernacle/Sacrificial Animals? | Heb 8:5 | charis | 35594
Saints, Greetings in Jesus' name! A friend asked me the following questions: 1. Was the tabernacle constructed before Moses went up to Mt. Sinai or when he came back down? The scripture shows that the tabernacle was pitched at the base of the mountain before the golden calf problem, but then afterward it sounds like they are just beginning to construct it. Was that scripture kind of a review of the first description of the building or was it actually being constructed after the golden calf was destroyed? 2. Why were only the innards and the legs washed before being sacrificed and not the rest of the animal? 3. Why were certain parts of the different animals sacrificed on different sides of the altar? 25 | O.T. Israel salvation? | John 6:49 | charis | 35025
Dear Greg, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Is this verse (then) telling us that in Moses' time, those saved from Egypt crossing the Red Sea soon 'lost' their salvation? (except for Joshu and Caleb) Even Moses died in the wilderness. Did some 'lose' their salvation, then 'regain' it? I'm sorry that I wrote such a broad question. :-) You were speaking of Israel after the revelation of Christ, but what about the salvation of Israel in Exodus? in Joshua? What part does the Promised Land play in the salvation of Israel? Israel was saved "out" of Egypt, but this entire generation (except two) were not saved "into" the Promised Land. The wandered in the desert for 40 years. Were they 'un-chosen?' In Christ Jesus, charis |

27 | Unexpected source? | 2 Pet 3:16 | charis | 34413
Dear JMSCOTT, Greetings once again, in Jesus' name! I don't recall saying that you were belittling the Holy Spirit. I don't have pages missing from my Bible, because God has seen to it that we have the whole counsel of God in His Word and in His church, all throught the unction of the Holy Spirit! Friend, you seem to have a 'divine revelation' that no one else has. Could you let us in on it? What is the 'name' you keep referring to? Is it the Lord Jesus Christ? If it is, then you speak in accord with the Bible, the church, and the Spirit that dwells within me. However, you seem to be saying there is an 'unexpected source' that I should seek for. Would you name that source, please? Then maybe this discussion will move on to the point. Blessings and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

28 | Visit other churches? | Rom 16:16 | charis | 33949
Dear Saints of the forum, Just curious, but for those among you that are committed members of a local church: How many other churches have you visited in say, the last 5 years? Of those, how many were of different denominations? Someone is going to ask, "Why do you ask?" I'll tell you after I get some answers! :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

29 | Anoint? | 2 Kin 2:9 | charis | 33737
Dear Searcher, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Peace, my friend. I am confused about your definition of 'anointed.' I was always under the impression that anointed (often with oil) meant 'chosen by God' or 'consecrated to a ministry.' While it is true that men physically did the anointing, the Holy Spirit led the men to do so. In this particular passage and it's context, I get the idea that Elisha was heir to Elijah's ministry of prophet, and that God approved it. If I am mistaken, please teach me the true meaning of 'anoint' and tell me what did happen to Elisha. But, if you are done with this discussion, maybe someone else can enlighten me? :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

30 | *Practical* not *ethereal* | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 33733
Dear Dino Bencini, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus! Trust, my friend, that I well know this Scripture! The problem is: 1) If Jesus will always take you back, then are we in a constant state of saved-unsaved-saved-unsaved...etc.? 1a) If so, is the outcome sure that in the end we are saved? or, 1b) Are we unsure of our status? i.e. Are we saved only if we are in God's good grace(s) at the moment of our death? 1c) Doesn't God know when we will die? i.e. If God doesn't know if we are saved or not, it seems to deny any form of the words 'chosen,' 'elect,' or 'known' by God, except in a general sense. As one that believes in a personal God, I find this very disconcerting! 2) I was asking for a *practical* definition, not an *ethereal* one. The doctrine of a believer committing an 'unforgiveable sin' depends upon the two phrases 'blaspheme (sometimes 'grieve') the Holy Spirit' and 'deny Christ.' That these two concepts are in the Bible I cannot deny! However, if we are to preach this doctrine, the burden of explaining what this means falls upon us. It cannot be a vague thing! Also, if you make these sins *easy* to commit, then you send to hell some that God has counted as in heaven. My examples are Peter and David. (though there are many more!) In the Old Testament and the New, God's people have sinned terribly and been forgiven, Jesus was denied, and the Holy Spirit grieved. But God, in His great mercy saved even those! It is this same mercy that I lean upon! How about you? Or is it now your effort and clean life that will now get you into heaven? In conclusion, I say that I am not against your claim of 'possible unforgiveable sin' as a theory and a dire warning. But if you bandy this theory 'loosely' to the effect of eroding the faith of those that God has loved, you are committing the sin of robbing God's people. Me, I prefer to encourage God's people in a positive sense. I do not offer the false security of 'God loves you whatever you do!' But I do preach that His love is effective to the salvation of those who are call His name! Can we say to God's people, "You could lose your salvation, but I'm not going to tell you how!"(?) It seems to me that if we only preach a perfect life...or else!, then we are 'faith-robbers,' not 'faith-givers.' Blessings to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

31 | Practical definition of 'forsake?' | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 33575
Dear zach†, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus! Could you please supply me with a *practical* definition of 'forsake?' Is this an 'anti-faith?' An 'incantation?' An 'action' that is universal, or case-by-case? Are steps involved, or is there a 'one time and you are out' violation? Or is it a combination of two or more of the above? Is it possible to 'forsake' and 're-repent?' Is there something I have missed entirely? While I admit that there are abundant Scriptures that speak of the possibility, scarce are those that explain how and when grace is defeated. Blessings and peace to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

33 | The measure of death? | 1 Tim 4:1 | charis | 33433
Dear 10EC, Greetings from Japan in the name of Jesus! You are correct that we probably have much more in common than we do not! :-) The problem is (to me!) quite simple. If we claim that salvation is 'loseable,' we must bear the burden of knowing how it is lost! It is very convenient to say, "That's easy! Whenever we deny Christ, or deny the Holy Spirit (depending on which 'proof-Scripture' we are using), we are separated from His grace by our willful departure." But the hard part is being more specific! This is why I use the word 'theoretical.' According to most popular methods of accounting, some of the greatest men of faith (Moses and David come to mind, as well as Paul by self-confession) deserve death. Yet God has a different method of accounting that we can never fathom. I have given this completely to the Lord. I see your Scriptures, and I see the 'opposing' Scriptures that claim proof of absolute assurance. Both parties (camps) lead to a form of legalism that I do not see substantiated in the Bible. To give an example of said legalism, the 'loseable' side usually ends up having to decide on a 'measure' of saved/unsaved, which does not bear up under the historical record of the Bible. The 'unloseable' side does fine until someone starts acting unsaved, which inevitably leads to 'not saved from the beginning' or 'that was false salvation' judgement. I KNOW the measure of life, but can I know the measure of death? If I err, I err on the side of salvation and grace, placing my life in His capable hands for measure. If you are right, I plead mercy to He who is merciful! Thank you for your kind regards! My blessings to you as well! In Christ Jesus, charis |

34 | 491 Club? | 1 Tim 4:1 | charis | 33405
Dear 10EC, Greetings in the name of Jesus! I hear what you are saying. I consider this to be true. My question is, "Just how easy (or difficult) is it to commit this unforgiveable sin?" I know a man in Yokohama that owns a pub (Trust that I do not frequent such places any longer! My relation with said fellow is B.C.) named the '491 Club.' This person is quite familiar with the Bible, but not a Christian. His *statement* is that Christians believe in grace, but many limit it! Thus, *491* is the 'unforgiveable sin.' (7 times 70, plus 1!) Except that this 'falling away' is but a 'theoretical' possibility, how can we measure it? I do not believe we can, nor should we dwell on this 'possibility.' This I why I am "once saved, always saved!" In Christ Jesus, charis |

35 | Politics source? | Mark 13:28 | charis | 33189

36 | Two prophets? | Job | charis | 33111
Dear Searcher, Greetings to you in Jesus' name! Thank you for your answer! My friend, I wish I could see it, but I don't. Are there really two kinds of prophets? Or are there several kinds of prophecy? Also, do we judge other ministers of the Gospel with the same standard? For instance, preachers are preaching the Gospel to the saints, evangelists preach the Gospel to the lost, a shepherd/counselor speaks the mind of God to those in need of help and direction, and a Sunday School teacher guides the young (in the Lord, or physically) in the paths of God. All are ministers of the Gospel, all are responsible to bring forth the word of God in accord with the Bible. All are saying, in effect, "Thus saith the Lord!" Do we judge the 'other' ministers of the Gospel with the same measure? Or do we weigh the *entirety* of their ministry? Friend (and all the forum saints), I am in no way suggesting that we can lightly hold the Word of God! But this demand for *absolute, 100 percent, accurate perfection* is mocking grace in the church. In addition, it is completely impractical. Those who try to say that they DO use this kind of meter-stick are deluded or hypocrites, IMHO. I am NOT saying that we can accept those who continually prophesy hogwash. (DUH!) I am NOT saying that we need a 'further revelation' of the future of the church. I AM saying that the Bible is done. I AM saying that prophets should take great care when speaking words of guidance and direction, and they should be rebuked if they speak presumptuously. If they continue to do so, they should be barred from further activity. I AM against 'para-church' prophecy, as the great majority is self-serving and the accountability of God does not work in a non-church environment. Sorry to use my reply to you as a 'soapbox!' :-) I really do value your replies, and can see that you 'agenda' is not a hidden one! Blessings to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

37 | Are these not prophets? | Job | charis | 33064
Dear Searcher, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus. Brother, what you said is true. However, may I ask you something? (I have asked others with no answers thus far) In the New Testament, and in the present age, prophets do more than tell the future. Are these not prophets? "But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation." 1 Corinthians 14:3 NASB. I consider this to be a ministry of encouragement to the church. I do not equate prophets with preachers. Of course, a Spirit-led preacher will be exercising the gift of prophecy in the extemporaneous portion of a sermon, and even could do so in his 'prepared' sermon. Also, any good counselor will submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit when bringing God's word of encouragement to those asking fr help or guidance. (a counselor who depends solely on intellect or training is not a 'Christian counselor' but a counselor who is a Christian) I know many preacher that are definitely NOT prophesying! So, how do you measure perfection when it is not telling the future? How do you measure accuracy when you are dealing with the Biblical, prophetic encouragement of the saints? In Christ Jesus, charis |

38 | Seeking a prophet, or not? | Job | charis | 33042
Dear Jensen, Do you demand the same degree of perfection from preachers and teachers of the Word? i.e. 100 percent 'accuracy' and perfection. Or do you simply deny that God speaks through them? This is not *settled,* because you have not said one word acknowledging the 'whole' Biblical role of the prophet in the New Testament. You have only demanded a partial answer, and getting it act like you have made a spiritual point, when in actuality you have only made a trivial point. (Have you noticed that you only answer the questions that lead to your 'agenda?') Are you seeking a prophet? I have shown from the Bible that you can find one that encourages you on your path in the Lord Jesus. I think, though, that you have proven that you are NOT seeking a prophet. 39 | Dancing? | Job | charis | 32954
Dear Jensen, Greetings from Japan in Jesus' name! Dancing? You keep saying accuracy. I suppose you mean 'freedom from mistake or error.' If we are speaking of fortune-telling or future-telling, I can see that we can just wait and see if the things said come to pass or not. If they do not, the prophecy was false, and intelligent people will no longer listen to said prophet. I agree with you. In case you did not hear me, I AGREE WITH YOU. But, prophets do other things than write the Bible (finished) and tell the future. "But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation." 1 Corinthians 14:3 NASB How do YOU measure the *accuracy* of the above prophetic ministries to God's people? I measure it in service, in the bearing of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, in spiritual guidance to individual saints and the the local church. My friend, if you knew me at all, and if you have read more than a few of my posts, you would not call my values 'liberal' or my attitude toward the Bible 'tolerant.' If you ask me whether I show grace (tolerance) to God's people (as He does!), I am 'guilty as charged.' :-) "...with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love," Ephesians 4:2 NASB. Brother, I can't help but ask, but do you demand the same degree of perfection from preachers and teachers? I don't know about your family situation, but though the Bible demands that I love my wife as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25), I doubt if I have done so 'accurately.' But I believe you could ask Junko about this, and she would tell you that I have loved her 'within acceptable tolerances.' :-) How about you, my friend? Have you you been 'accurate' in your faith? I daresay that there might be a discrepancy between your version and the version of those around you. Your 'conservatism' is admirable, but perhaps God's church deserves a bit better than that. God is 'accurate' and so is His Word. The church, well... I don't think our standards measure up to His. We personally persevere in pursuit of perfection, yes! But we won't attain it until we meet Him. 'Within acceptable tolerances' in Christ Jesus, charis |

40 | Are you truly searching for a prophet? | Job | charis | 32829
Dear Jensen, Greetings, my friend, in Jesus' name! Accuracy, hmmmm. Sorry, but I think that if you expect a prophet to be perfect, you will be disappointed. There are none. Only the prophecies written by prophets in the Bible are perfect, because they have a God-divined mission to bring us the God-inspired Word. Other that these, we cannot even speculate that Biblical prophets were perfect. As to desiring to know the counsel of God, this IS possible. As I wrote in another post, God has provided a tri-fold means by which we can know His will in a personal manner. The same thing applies to knowing His will in a corporate (i.e., local church) manner. These are 1) God, through the Holy Spirit, speaks directly to the heart of His believers, 2) The Bible, through the Holy Spirit, speaks all believers in the written Word, and 3) God's chosen (called) vessels, through the Holy Spirit, speak *as prompted* the counsel of God. The last would be the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the ministerial gifts given to the church. While it is true that there are many false gifts being bandied about these days, and many self-serving ministers, we are not 'off the hook' to ignore these blessings. If we discount the gifts and ministries for the sake of the abuses, and demand that the remaining few be perfect, then there will be no other means by which to hear God than the Bible and your own personal feelings. Brother, this is a setup! Both of these means are under the influence of personal whim and bogotry. This is why we have the church, with the responsibility of fellowship and mutual submission. It is the 'balancing factor' that CAN keep the church in God's will. All I can say is that you did not answer the short question! Are you truly searching for a prophet? Or have you decided that there are none, so you will just depend on your own Bible interpretation? IMHO, if you are seeking the counsel of God, He will give it to you, but not just YOU! He will give it to the church, and you will be a co-partaker. Bless you in your quest! (unless you've stopped looking! :-)) In Christ Jesus, charis |
