22 | Simon the tanner, clean or unclean | Acts 9:43 | azurelaw | 225104
Was this Simon's business considered detestable and unclean to the Jews? If so, Peter's stay at his house was not in harmony with his response to the vision he had about eating the unclean animals from God. Most commentary considered Simon the tanner involved in detestable trade because of treating of animals' dead bodies. I checked Levitus chapter 11 that talks about clean and unclean animals. God only forbids the eating and touching of the dead bodies of "unclean animals" while those that are clean will be seen as unclean if the animal died (not killed). Therefore, if what Simon the tanner dealt with were bodies and skin of clean animals being killed for making leather shoes, etc., he should not be viewed as unclean (according to the Torah). Then I can understand why Peter stayed at Simon's house and had such a response against the vision. Need your help to figure it out. Thanks. Shalom Azure |

23 | went to Seir or not | Gen 33:17 | azurelaw | 224778
Does this verse mean that Jacob did not go to Seir and in V14 he was just cheating Esau for he was still afraid of Esau taking revenge? From what has been portrayed, Jacob seems to be a man of suspicious. Somehow, I would consider that if Jacob did go to Seir and stayed with Esau, the tragedy in Chapter 34 could be avoided. Thanks for your input and Shalom Azure |

25 | please check my calculation | Gen 11:26 | azurelaw | 224456
Gen 11:10-32 recording the descendants of Shem till Abraham's birth. My calculation shows the number of years between the flood (reference to V10) and Abraham's birth is 292. Kindly check if it is correct. Thank you. Shalom Azure |

26 | What does "blameless" refer to | Gen 17:1 | azurelaw | 223468
How would Abraham understand "Walk before Me, and be blameless" in the context of Chapter 17? There is no record showing God gave any law or commands to Abraham in the past. Am I correct to associate it with the circumcision required of Abraham and his descendants (V10) by God in keeping His covenant that they may be blameless? Thank you. Azure |

27 | Revival of Holiness | Ps 51:10 | azurelaw | 222479
Yesterday (previous Sunday) during the morning service, a song led by the worshipper titled "Revival of Holiness". (I have never heard of such concept/term) The message of the lyric is asking God to revive believers' holiness and the holiness of the heart. It seems to me the lyric is talking about believers' "backsliding". I want to ask: 1/ What is the teaching in Bible concerning "revival"? Can it be applied to Holiness? 2/ In what aspect(s) does the Bible teach about Holiness (I know one of the concepts of which is "to set apart as holy") for believers? Thank you for your help. Shalom Azure |

29 | Why related it to the feeding of 5000 | Mark 6:52 | azurelaw | 220341
Why did Mark specifically make this remark "for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves...". How significant was the miracle of the incident of the loaves in assocation with their situation on the sea when they saw Jesus walking on it and later on the sea calmed after He was onboard. Similar situation happened before (Mark 4:35-41). Why did Mark not associate this incident (Mark 6:45-52) with Mark 4:35-41, but recalled the feeding of 5000 instead. P.S. I understand the disciples were hard hearted. My point is just not understanding why Mark (John) made such association with the incidents. Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

30 | "him" refers to which one? | Mark 9:42 | azurelaw | 219175
Sorry, I should have posted it as a question. "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea...." "him" refers to "one of these little ones" or "whoever"? I've heard both explanations. But which should be correct according to the kione Greek grammar? Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

31 | "a" or "the"? | Dan 7:13 | azurelaw | 219092

33 | drink from the brook | Ps 110:7 | azurelaw | 218812
I understand that this psalm talks about Christ. However, just cannot figure out what does it mean in v7 "He will drink from the brook by the wayside..." and how it relates to the whole psalm. Thank you in advance for your help. Shalom Azure |

35 | no imtimacy? | Gen 43:14 | azurelaw | 218218
"...your other brother..." This expression sounds odd to me. Israel (Jacob) seemed unloving to Simeon. He did not address his name. The translation of my Chinese Bible even convey a sense of distance (no intimacy) like "that brother of yours". [This is just like when I had a fight with my husband about our daughter, I would say "your daughter..."...:-)] Was it because he (Jacob) was still angry with his sons for the lost of Joseph? Thanks for your input. Shalom Azure |

36 | Tithing before Mosaic Law | Gen 14:20 | azurelaw | 217726
Oops, sorry that I click on the "note" by mistake where as I was intending to post a question :-( ******* I believe this should be the first account in the Bible recording the 10 percent tithing. The second one is recorded in Gen 28:22. Both were not yet set in the Mosaic Law. Question: 1/ Was giving 10 percent a common practice in the ancient time? 2/ Under what condition was it exercised before the Mosaic Law? Thanks and Shalom Azure |

37 | how to serve (quantity-wise) at church | Rom 12:7 | azurelaw | 216953
Should Christians be serving or engaged in one/single ministry/service at church regardless of your gifts, willingness or problem of lacking manpower at church? The reason I ask the question is that my Chinese Bible contains the word "concentrate/single-minded/solely" in the verse; thus attributing both quantity- and quality-wise. Hope I have clearly expressed my question :-) Shalom Azure |

39 | weep with others is more important? | Rom 12:15 | azurelaw | 216219
Today, I've just heard someone say that it is MORE IMPORTANT to weep with those who weep THAN to rejoice with those who rejoice. Usually I think it is generally true. However, when I rethink about the verse, there is no such comparison in it. So, I started to ponder if the above statement is biblical or not. Your input is much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

40 | "the two" and "one new man" refer to ? | Eph 2:15 | azurelaw | 216188
Sorry that I marked it a note instead of a question. Does "the two" here refer to "both groups (the Jews and gentiles)" in v14? If so, what does "into one NEW MAN" mean? Does it refer to the true church (the body of Christ)? Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |
