21 | Praise report | Bible general Archive 2 | EdB | 127203
Question: This is a Praise The Lord from Mrs. Justme and Justme!! Today Friday July 23, 2004 the Cat Scan showed NO Blood Clots whatsoever in my lungs! The doctors and nurses were saying this is a Miracle if ever there was one! Please thank the Lord with me. Thank each of you for remembering me in prayer. Frankly I am stunned, and awe struck at the Lord's great love. I am framing the two Cat Scan reports side by side for everyone to see that this is a genuine MIRACLE from God! We were told to make funeral plans on June 18, and now there are no clots whatsoever. Dear Friends I am so blessed and thankful! PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THIS FOR A FEW DAYS Thank you, justme and Family. Oops sorry I got so excited I removed this post putting it back sorry |

22 | What nonsense is this? | Bible general Archive 2 | EdB | 120107
Okay I got a question, why do people feel they must come to this forum and ask cryptic or half baked questions to appear spiritual. Have they been watching to much TV. I know TV loves to portray the meaning of life by having a guy go to some sort of sage and receive profound nonsense in response of their question. Does being cryptic make some think they are mysterious or have deep revelation that the rest of us just aren’t smart enough to get or what. I guess if we can’t ask a question is such a way the listener goes “huh” we aren’t spiritual. What a crock of nonsense! EdB |

25 | Please I'm looking for your opinion! | Bible general Archive 2 | EdB | 101991
I was sent this yesterday and I found it interesting. I thought I would post it to the forum for comments. Plese read this and tell me what us what you think on this subject. "I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH." MATTHEW 16:18 The church's all-time biggest blunders is never too late to learn from our blunders. Here are 7: (1) We've made unbelief a doctrine. While third-world nations believe God for New Testament results, we teach our seminary students that God doesn't do miracles anymore. (2) We've tolerated division. Who needs the devil when we're so adept at hating one another in the name of denominational loyalty? (3) We've cultivated a religious spirit. We've taught that Christianity is about avoiding things like smoking and drinking. As a result we've lost our joy, because intimacy with God cannot be achieved through performance. (4) We've encouraged "super stars. " Consequently, some of our preachers have stopped modeling servanthood, and forgotten that Jesus washed feet and rode on a donkey. (5) We've equated money with success. We've found a way to "theologize" greed, instead of using our God-given prosperity to feed the poor and reach the world with the Gospel. (6) We've stayed in the pews and become irrelevant. We freak out when somebody uses rap or rock music to reach the younger generation. Instead of engaging the culture we're hiding from it. (7) We've taught people to be escape-artists. Instead of "occupying till He comes," we'd rather be astronauts and fly away. We read rapture novels when we should be praying for those living on the verge of martyrdom. Why can't we have their kind of faith? We can - if we're willing to pay the price and commit ourselves fully to God! |

28 | Truth lost in the Reformations? | Matthew | EdB | 87384
Emmaus You present an interesting understanding of 1 John 5:16-17 one which is not understood outside of Catholicism. I wonder how long it was accepted as such within the church ? Which then leads me to my next thought. Since the original church evolved into the Catholic church was this an understanding invented by the church or pass to it by the apostle’s teaching? If it was a teaching of the apostles I wonder what else was lost when the reformation declared many such teachings as invalid or non "sola scriptura"? I might add I find the term "sola scriptura" to be the ideal concept but one in reality that is rarely if ever followed certainly not by any denomination. EdB |

29 | Where did evil come from? | Gen 3:22 | EdB | 83658
Is this a good explanation of where evil came from? Did God Create Evil At a certain college, there was a professor with a reputation for being tough on Christians. At the first class every semester, he asked if anyone was a Christian and proceeded to degrade and mock their statement of faith. One semester, he asked the question and a young man raised his hand when asked if anyone was a Christian. The professor asked, "Did God make everything, young man?" "Yes he did, sir," the young man replied. The professor responded, "If God made everything, then God made evil, and if we can only create from within ourselves, then God is evil." The student didn't have a response and the professor was happy to have once again proved the Christian faith to be a myth. Then another man raised his hand and asked, "May I ask you something, sir?" "Yes you may," responded the professor. The young man stood up and said, "Sir, is there such thing as cold?" "Of course there is, what kind of a question is that? Haven't you ever been cold?" The young man replied, "Actually, sir, cold does not exist. What we consider to be cold is really only the absence of heat. Absolute zero is when there is absolutely no heat but cold does not really exist. We have only created that term to describe how we feel when heat is not there." The young man continued, "Sir, is there such thing as dark?" Once again the professor responded, "Of course there is." And once again, the student replied, "Actually, sir, darkness does not exist. Darkness is really only the absence of light. Darkness is only a term man developed to describe what happens when there is no light present." Finally, the young man asked, "Sir, is there such thing as evil?" The professor responded, "Of course. We have rapes, and murders and violence everywhere in the world, those things are evil." The student replied, "Actually, sir, evil does not exist. Evil is simply the absence of God. Evil is a term man developed to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. It isn't like truth, or love, which exist as virtues like heat and light. Evil is simply the state where God is not present, like cold without heat or darkness without light." The professor had nothing to say |

30 | Thoughts and comments on USA Today story | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 81682
I posted this in a thread and I think it got lost in the size of the thread. So I will post as a question to see if it might generate any interest. I'm looking for thoughts and comments. USA Today the Wednesday April 16 edition had a very interesting article about people switching faiths. Basically 16 percent of the population of America has switched. Most disturbing was the fact that of the 9.5 million Catholics that left Catholicism 29 percent now say they have no religion. I suspect it has to do with the way the Catholic church handles divorces. Baptist are second highest in the group with 4.6 million changing religion and 15 percent saying they have no religion. Also interesting if someone leaves a mainline denomination such as Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, they will more than likely become Baptist or Catholic. They then interviewed four people that were changing religions, A Catholic that became charismatic non denominational, A Catholic that became Lutheran, A Christian (? No denomination) that became Jewish, and Methodist that became Catholic. The Catholic said he was seeking the unfiltered gospel, in other words he didn’t want anyone telling him what to believe. The Christian that became a Jew could not accept that Jesus was the only way to salvation. The Catholic that became a Lutheran did it for two reason first she was divorced and second her new husband was Lutheran. Her statement was only a theologian could tell the difference between the two religions. Last was the Methodist that became Catholic, he did for the holiness and reverence. Also he mentioned the applicability to life of the teaching. He viewed Catholicism as very positive while Protestantism was telling what not to do. This is a general summation of the article and I tried to remain objective. EdB |

31 | Interesting Rendering | Gen 22:5 | EdB | 80887
To my esteemed colleagues of the forum let me raise this question: This is not a blanket agreement with or condoning of Biblebeliever, but they raised a very interesting point here. In the KVJ Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. Focusing on the phrase "...God will provide himself a lamb..." In NKJV and many others it is rendered or something similar "...God will provide for Himself the Lamb..." NKJV Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, "My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering." So the two of them went together. NASB Genesis 22:8 Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So the two of them walked on together. NLT Genesis 22:8 "God will provide a lamb, my son," Abraham answered. And they both went on together. In KJV it is saying God will provide Himself a Lamb, which could be read God will provide Himself as the Lamb, which in effect God did, Jesus being God was the Lamb that was sacrificed. Written this way the passage leaves little room for the debate was Jesus God or there is no Trinity. I will agree this view would be made even stronger if there was a coma following Himself thus rendering the passage God will provide Himself, a Lamb, but again in open reading the tie can still be seen. In the NKJV and other versions while this passage might be more grammatically correct God gave His son (provided the Lamb) but does it remove the hint of Jesus being God offered as the sacrifice. I’m interested in your thoughts on this. As any of you that have read even a few of my responses to the forum know I'm not the person to be making a case on English sentence construction. It is just I read Biblebelievers response and pondered it all night. Looking for thoughts EdB |

32 | Explain this to me | Matt 27:3 | EdB | 74527
Can someone explain this? When Joe or John responds on this subject it is done in manner to attack the character, integrity or spirituality of the person holding the opposite view. They never supply evidence that refutes what was said they only tear down who said it. Why this behavior is tolerated is beyond my understanding. |

34 | Are you intersted in Bible translations? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 32633
I address this to anyone that has even a passing interest in Bible Translations. I was referred to this site by Makarios to whom I’m indebted, thank you! The discussion found at the site reveals the problems the translators are faced with when attempting to translate the Bible. It shows what can happen as attempts are made to make the passages understandable, the results can be a loss of the intended meaning of the writer. Please as I said before if you have even a passing interest in Bible translation please take the time to read this article. It is found at http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2001/013/5.28.html EdB |

36 | Why was the man speechless? | Matt 22:11 | EdB | 29187
The man in Matthew 22:11 was speechless in verse 12 does that imply he had no idea he wasn't dressed correctly? Or simply that he had no excuse? Remember he was brought in. EdB |

38 | When did the catholic church go wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 25677
First let me say I am not attempting to defend the Catholic Church in any fashion, shape or form. My question. Since the Catholic Church grew out of the first century church and later was felt to be in need of reformation, what and when do you feel was the first error that entered the church? Was that error ever dealt with at a later time and what was the result? Second question Without going through all of Luther's points what was the biggest problem and when did it manifest itself within the church? |

40 | Numerology any validity? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 19533
Grant Jeffrey wrote a very interesting book called the Handwriting of God and another called the Signature of God. In these books he showed where God left indelible signatures of his existence in nature and at various other places. In the book he also discussed Numerology which I summarily dismissed. But as someone said in the forum could it be another example of how God attests to His existence by providing such things that no human mind could so conceive? Again I’m not advocating this to be used for fortunate telling or to predict the future but rather as a post script to the wonderful love letter God wrote to us. Again I'm not talking about predicting anything. Any thoughts? EdB |
